The OIG Report is About McCabe's Leaks Against Obama Officials and Hillary Clinton, Not About Trump.
The OIG report on McCabe was just released. It's here.
Update: See update at post's end. I thought this was the only report, but Commenters tell me it's just the first one. This report is not even close to what I thought it would be about. In a way, though, it makes sense. An investigation was not opened into McCabe's leaks of damaging stuff about Trump. No -- why would they do that? The Deep State doesn't like Trump. They approve of leaks against Trump. This report is about McCabe's leaks against Obama officials. Naturally -- that's the kind of leaking the Deep State doesn't like. Leaks against one of their own. Leaks against the minions of The Precious. So it's all about leaks that McCabe authorized certain underlings to make to the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ had published (on October 25, 2016) an article by Devlin Barrett noting that McCabe's wife had gotten huge donations (I think between $500,000 and $700,000) from Hillary Clinton's bagman Terry MacAuliffe for her election bid, and yet McCabe refused to recuse himself from overseeing the Clinton email investigation or the Clinton Foundation investigation. Importantly, the existence of the latter had not yet been made public. Comey had been asked about it and refused to confirm or deny any such investigation. McCabe wanted to clear his own name of the charge of unethical behavior, and, so, decided to engage in unethical behavior by rebutting the WSJ story by claiming that Obama officials were pressuring him to shut down the Clinton Foundation investigation, and McCabe, heroically, resisted. That's his claim, anyway. But the leaks he authorized -- through someone the report only notes by her position of "Special Counsel," so I'm gonna guess he did this through Lisa Page -- confirmed that there was in fact a Clinton Foundation investigation, despite the official FBI policy being that this was non-public and not to be talked about, and also relayed the contents of this alleged phone call in which the Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General (called by his position, "PADAG") tried to get McCabe to back off the investigation and McCabe, supposedly, refused. Note that if this is true, we have Obama officials attempting to pressure FBI officials to drop an investigation into Obama's would-be successor, Hillary Clinton. Yet I don't think the media will be talking about that. It was this leak, and apparently only this leak, that roused the Deep State enough to get them to investigate McCabe for leaking. The conclusions of the report is that McCabe was asked twice, not under oath, by the FBI if he had leaked to the WSJ about this or if he knew who had leaked to the WSJ about this. He claimed he did not leak and did not know who did, despite being in frequent communication with "Special Counsel" before and after her call to the WSJ making the leak, and asking her how it went and etc. In a text exchange, "Special Counsel" and a then Deputy Assistant Director talked about throwing "PADAG" "under the bus:"The article stated that Department officials told Comey that his decision to update Congress about the discovery of additional Clinton e-mails prior to the election was inconsistent with Department policy, and DAD observed in his text message that "This is all [PADAG]." Special Counsel responded "Yeah. I saw it.So "Special Counsel" sure understood that she was leaking to protect "Andy." And yet "Andy" claims he doesn't know who leaked. The report further says he was asked twice more, this time by investigators of the IG and this time under oath and recorded, the same questions -- if he leaked, if he knew who leaked -- and once again lied and claimed he didn't leak and didn't know who did. If I find anything else interesting, I'll update. Apparently they didn't even bother investigating anti-Trump leaks, and I doubt they ever will. But leak against Hillary or Obama's minions, and they hop into furious action.

But I think more simply, they don't want it to look as though they fired McCabe simply because Trump wanted him gone.
Everything Comey did or didn't do, likewise, I can explain in terms of fear for his own vaunted reputation and the FBI's. I'm not making an excuse for him here and that doesn't make it all OK. I just think it's less about politics - which is not a case I would try to make for McCabe, Page or Strzok - and more about institutional/personal CYA for a lot of these people.

No. This OIG report release just means that this particular information is of no further use in criminal investigations (e.g., the facts are established, without question). It does not preclude OIG reports or leaks on further McCabe or Comey activity such as leaking or criminal investigation about the same.
I also note that this - with Comey's own admission that he was not forthright with Trump on the source of the Dossier - seems enough, even before Comey was fired, to have appointed a Special Counsel in an muh Russia investigation, due to the heavy conflicts of interest in the DOJ/FBI.

The reason that the OIG investigated that particular leak was that a complaint by the Obama Admin people allowed them to investigate. For political reasons, it is difficult to paint McCabe as a hero when a DOJ Obama official turned in the complaint.
Makes it much more difficult to present the criminal prosecution (if it happens) to a jury as political motivated investigation if the original complaint was lodged by an Obama DOJ official and confirmed by an Obama confirmed OIG.
If the indictment and trial is conducted in DC, then it could be an issue.

I must have weak nostrils. When I used Milorganite, it was mildly unpleasant but dissipated in about a day after watering. Maybe there's too much anaerobic respiration going on at the soil surface to break it down sufficiently.

Problem is that 'back channel communication' is not illegal... in fact it happens all the dang time.
Especially at high enough levels... the levels that can declass or decide to share the info anyway.

This is a guy who wrote a very prominent chapter in one of his books about revenge. How much he loved it and he always got even no matter how long it took.

I had to do an analysis for a big bank on lending fraud coming out of one of its subsidiaries. It took me a year to put together all of the names, closing statements, loan files, etc. and the end result looked very much like this report.
'Cept mine had lots of graphs 'n stuff.

I can see indictments by the end of the year. Once trials start your guess is as good as mine.
But it's not like these investigations are just starting. Prosecutors started working this last summer and there are other specific investigations into Uranium One and the Clinton Foundation.
What's interesting is that if you look at the indictment of the head of the trucking company in MD who was part of the Uranium One scandal, the indictment came as joint action by the Inspector General's office and a federal prosecutor.

You know what the Dem Congress can't control? The Department of Justice. They have no more sway over Sessions than the Republican Congress had over Holder and Lynch.
Sessions was going after the lawlessness at the Clinton Foundation throughout the campaign. If you are expecting a guy who was denied a judgeship by Democrats in Congress, who almost had his AG job denied because of Democrats in Congress, who handed Trump his law and order platform to run on, to back down I think you are in for a very big surprise.

I do reserve the right to set my hair on fire at a later date. Circumstances may change, e.g. Trump gets impeached, but then there'll be civil war, literally, and a lot of people working on these cases (and not opening their pie-holes or resigning in protest at the slowness of the legal process) won't let this go.

I don't necessarily disagree. And to be fair I don't think it's necessary to run around with your hair on fire if nothing comes from these investigations. Because the political aspect is almost as important as the legal aspect, I am concerned with waiting too long and have that window close.
Mueller has had time to indict four Trump people so the reasoning that these things take time is somewhat contradicted.

/ Seriously check out the Wiki on glycemic foods and see if you notice the same thing I did. Fat and booze seem to slow down blood sugar spikes. Because both recognized Comey was way out over the tips of his skis when he held that b.s. presser the dawn o' summer 2016 on the following bases:
1. FBI doesn't call the shots on whether X target, suspect or subject gets processed into a grand jury or direct indictment for Y case, DoJ does.
2. FBI NEVER holds pressers effectively exonerating ANYONE, let alone an actual or de facto or prospective preznit nom,
3. Not only did neither Comey nor anyone at FBI consult with ANYONE at DoJ on his presser, DoJ was even aware of it.
No question about it that Lynch's tarmac mw Bill Clinton was not something AG Lynch could ever credibly explain away, no matter how "innocent" it "may have been" in, like, "reality".
But Lynch dilly-dallied over recusal, and Comey, being Republican, under-mis-estimated that the 2i/c woman at DoJ, Yates, could function as acting AG and properly dispose of this.
Part of Comey's hubris was he somehow figured his OWN status as a Republican carried weight with anyone in the GOP or any GOP voters or GOP nom. Like, how the living fuck he figured voters and Congress critters, leave aside Trump, would give a rat's diseased behind for him having been Starr's DoJ insider enabler back in the 1990s is beyond me, yet apparently he actually thought that made him some kind of respected authority figure to conservatives.
FWIW I don't think McCabe's missiion with the WSJ reporters back in October 2016 was to stoke concerns about the emails found on Willy Wanker Weiner's PC's hard drive. Instead my thinking was that Comey and McCabe cooked up that approach as a means to counteract Comey's decision that he was gonna have to send that letter to Congress, the one back in July he promised he send if and when there was some "development" that affected his unauthorized administration wet work on Hillary's emails.
But where it went off the rails was somewhere in the editing offices of the WSJ. That's why Bartett's started working on his exit from WSJ - because he knew what McCabe was trying to sell was motivated by an attempt by Comey and McCable to OFFSET Comey's having to send that letter to Congress, yet Barrett's bossses at WSJ took the raw information and turned in it's head, thereby causing Barrett to break faith with McCable.
IMO that whole 'subtlety' made it difficult to impossible for McCabe to come clean with the IG, so got his ass fired.
I got no problem with McCabe's getting his ass fired over this, nor his 'losing' the vesting of his civil serpent pension. There's lots of think tank welfare out there plus his own 401k to boost his retirement wealth up to effectively the same as if he hadn't been fired the day before it vested.
And besides, for all I or any of us know, McCabe may win his legal case for review of his dismissal as being impermissiibly vindictive, which would be all he'd need to get him to vesting point.
Fuck Comey and the fucking white horse he rode in on, and fuck McCabe and the fucking white donkey that pulled his honey wagon.
