We turned him in but I retired before anything happened. I heard later through the grapevine he was allowed to retire shortly after I left.

For example, the brown tree stump on the center right and the black cliff face (I think it's a cliff face--looks like Half Dome) right above it have the same contour lines. In a sense the same line outlines both forms. They fit together like puzzle pieces. At the same time, the lower part of the cliff actually overlaps the stump, like a drape. So while this is a landscape, which our minds automatically understand has to have perspective and receding space, each plane seems to overlap the others, flattening the space.

As teenagers my brother and I were working up in the Maine woods with a couple of old timers. The old guys were telling us about Spruce gum, what they chewed then regular gum was not available. We soon found ourselves with chunks of this yellow goo filled with dead bugs and spruce bark in our mouths. Tastes just like turpentine. To this day I've yet to figure out if this was a prank or not, but take my word for it - avoid spruce gum at all costs.

While I would never hire a contractor who uses tools from there, some of there stuff is perfectly fine for certain circumstances.

For example, I could rent a commercial grade hardwood floor nailer for $45.00 per day for a job that took me about five days.

Or...the HF unit was only $89.00 on sale.

And I would up using for multiple small things that cropped up afterward.

HF has a place in life.

HF's chrome plated stuff is probably about as good, and they have a lifetime warranty, too. I wouldn't want to use them for my job, but they're great to throw in the back of each vehicle or the RV.

They've got some hidden gems, too, like the $6 pack of reusable shop vac socks that covers the filter and the little rechargeable multi-position LED wand flashlight that has a magnetic base. That's almost completely replaced my hanging shop light when I work on my cars.

Get the extended warranty, though. The switch has gone out on two of mine. BUT, like I said, know what you're getting when you go in.

Well, let me tell you about last year. In the TurboTax field for 401k contributions I accidentally put the wrong letter code. So instead of it being a 401k contribution I coded it as untaxed income.

Yes, I was drunk, and overpaid $2k in extra taxes. When I complained to my boss that his withholding was screwed up he had his accountant look it over and found my mistake. So I filed an amended return to get that $2k refunded. Well, Louisiana has a hold on my federal refunds because of a $220 dispute going back almost a decade, so I got a nice letter from the IRS saying LA kept it. All of it. They still haven't sent my the remainder.

Those two old guys were amazing. Both well into their 70's and tough as nails. My brother and I were in pretty good shape (my brother in particular) but they could and did work us into the ground trying to keep up with them. They never went to the doctor. Lose a finger (one had), get a bad cut, didn't matter, rub this cow balm on it. If the cow balm didn't work it couldn't be cured.

231 The VA sure seems to be improving, at least here. Son is getting regular appointments now. He saw a doctor a couple of weeks ago who diagnosed the pain in his feet and ankles as bone spurs in both feet.

He's at the VA clinic this morning to have his vision and hearing checked (he is wearing glasses now, which my husband and I didn't have to do until we were *cough* middle-aged. And I'm pretty sure he has hearing loss, due to driving convoys and being in combat situations.

What I really want is for them to do an MRI of his back and do something about the constant pain he's in.

Another thing, they send him a survey to fill out after each visit to see how he rated their service and he can offer any criticisms.

After eight years of Barry doing zip for our veterans, it's nice to see PDT improving things.

252 This painting is 'interesting' is several ways but I can't decide if I like it. The colors are great with the contrast of the black against what I guess is the aurora borealis. I really enjoy the way she captured the feel of old polished wood in the tree trunks with rich golden browns and the sheen from weathering. I assume combining all these elements are meant to show how the outdoors in the area unite (collude?) to provide an overall impression. Like I said, interesting but probably wouldn't have it on my wall.

On a lighter note, my first thought was that Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion should have been on the path walking towards the Emerald City.

There's works by Monet, Manet, just about every major artist of the last 200 years that have not been seen in public before, and may never again. Demand is so big to see that exhibit that you have to reserve a time slot online.

Well, and its tiny compared to most paintings, and really not all that impressive a work. It just has a huge amount of fame and press. Before it was stolen early in the 20th century and was part of a huge manhunt it was just another painting. It became famous.
