In France, ISIS Gunman Killed After Supermarket "Siege"

Mais evidement.

THE suspected ISIS gunman who was gunned down after killing three in a terrifying supermarket siege , according to police.

The attacker, named by police as 26-year-old Redouane Lakdim, screamed "Vengeance for Syria!" before shooting at cops in Trebes, south-east of Toulouse.

Police union official Yves Lefebvre confirmed Lakdim, who demanded the release of Paris attacker Salah Abdeslam, was killed moments after French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed a terror attack.

...

Lakdim, of Moroccan origin, was known to the Directorate General of Homeland Security (DGSI), a police source told Le Parisien.

He is reported to have been "very active" on jihadi online forums and was jailed in 2016 on drug-related offences.

His neighbour described him as "calm and nice", adding that he would visit the local Mosque regularly.

You don't say.

From Le Parisienne: he was yet another known wolf.

This man of Moroccan origin was known by the French police and intelligence services.

The suspect of three attacks perpetrated this Friday in L'aude has been identified. He would be Redouanne Lakdim, a man of Moroccan origin previously jailed and very active on Salfaist internet sites. He is suspected of having first attacked the occupants of a car in Carcassonne (aude), killing the passenger and wounding the driver, then wounding a CRS by gunfire before taking refuge in a Super U [supermarket] in Trebes [France], where he was gunned down by police after having himself killed at least two people.

The man, 26, was being watched by the [DGSI], a source close to the case told The Parisien. Very active on the Salafist social networks, he had been incarcerated at Carcassonne in 2016, [for reasons we do not know.] However, Gerad Colomb said that was "known for the possession of narcotics and dealing." The Minister of the Interior added that "one couldn't say that he was known as a radical who would radicalize to actual action."

Further, he was suspected of having traveled in Syria, but that is not yet confirmed. Witnesses reported that at the moment of taking hostages, he had claimed membership in ISIS [Daech, they say] and screamed [get this] "Allah Akbar." According to the Minister of the Interior, he "demanded the liberation of Salah Abdeslam [the ringleader/logistician of the Bataclan slaughter]...."

The propaganda organ of ISIS had claimed responsibility for these attacks. "The man who led the attack at Trebes, in the south of France, is a soldier of ISIS, who acted in response to the call" of ISIS "to target the member countries of the coalition" united against ISIS, claimed the jihadists.

...

Another neighbor, who knew the family very well, described the boy [their word] as someone who was "calm," "nice" and always with a kind word.

The same person also said that the young man regularly visited the mosque.

This "small time dealer" according to Gerard Collomb, "acted alone."

I have the same problem with liberals squawking about incarceration rates of blacks. They seem to think people get incarcerated on a whim. The rate at which a demographic gets incarcerated is largely determined by the crime rate of the demographic.

Proof? What is the difference in the incarceration rates of men vs. women? Does it reflect rampant sexism? No. It reflects propensity for criminal activity.

He was known to intelligence services due solely to possession of narcotics and dealing? I think the Minister of Interior is fibbing a little.

Tyler,

I came around to Trump at the convention. Not for anything he did or said, but because I couldn't counter Ace of Spades' SCOTUS argument after Scalia died.

As a result, we got Gorsuch. In fact, we're getting an almost-radically reformed federal bench -- and that's great. No regrets there.

The rest? Not so good. Here's what I said on Election Night:

It's always nice when we can approach these things with civility and honesty.

Ace wrote earlier today that "Trump can't keep parachuting in last-minute and think he's going to be able to turn the tide of battles that started months ago," which is true enough -- and one of the lessons I'd hoped Trump would have learned by now about the way Washington operates.

Of course, I'd also hoped that the GOP Congress and Trump would check each other's worst instincts, but instead they've become co-enablers.

It's been a really bad week.

The Pope is only infallible in matters of faith and morals, when in concert with the Magisterium of the Church (Cardinals, Bishops, et. al.) and he must state clearly that he is speaking ex cathedra. It happens very rarely.

Of course, somebody has to cancel out Mur-cokesoon-ski. But still,

It's not like our one congressman is going to make any difference.

Not so much.

We have had some seriously awful popes over the millennia. With this Church, nothing happens quickly, and nothing can change Dogma, once declared, so there's only so much damage the old commie can do.

So far, he has done nothing whatsoever to change anything important. Politics is another matter, but that does not infringe upon belief, worship, morals or anything else that matters.

I think you overestimate the power of the popes.

Yes, he is being a complete asshat over the Chinese Church. Yes, he is not too bright, and has surrounded himself with a bunch of idiotic sycophants who kowtow to him and whom he can keep under his despotic thumb. Yes, he issued probably the most worthless piece of drek ever to be published from the Vatican concerning adultery, all of which is just crap and is being exploited by the lavender mafia, but none of which will last.

He will come to an end, the Church will right Herself, and we will move on toward heaven.

Very few of the people who truly matter in the Church give two fat rats asses about this little commie. He wears ugly shoes, he exudes the smoke of Satan, and he whines like a baby when he doesn't get his own way. He will fade into history like the bad penny he is. Nobody will mourn his passing.

Posted by: votermom certified russian matryoshka bot at March 23, 2018 04:57 PM (hMwEB)

Lets look at the sequence of events...

The Government would run out of money today... on Friday... this has been KNOWN for months.

So, on Weds Ryan shoves a bill at the House, published at midnight and calls for a vote just hours later.

Being up against a deadline... it passes... with a WHOLE bunch of Democrat votes.

It then went to the Senate, where no one had time to read the bill either... and passed... again with a lot of Democrat votes.

the Congress then adjourned... and the President had TODAY to sign, or the Government would be shut down.

So, Ryan and McConnell waited until the last minute, so the President would almost have to sign the bill... even though it has a LOT of anti Conservative crap in it.

But this blindsided the President... His Chief of Staff John Kelly should have been paying attention to what Congress was pulling... as the President WAS busy doing the rest of his job.

But it was a pure and simple Power Play by Ryan, and McConnell, and DEMOCRATS to shut down the Trump Agenda.

Not sure what your objection is to the grandeur associated with leading 1/4 of the worlds population. And I think maybe you missed the bit about Solomon's Kingdom, if you think all leaders must be penurious and abstemious. Being Catholic does not automatically mean you retreat from the world to become a monk or a nun. Just as being Pope does not automatically mean one is blessed with the intelligence or ability to speak and act with any effectiveness on politics or worldly concerns.

I understand, you don't want to be Catholic, and you are looking for reasons to dislike the whole mess, and certainly Cranky Franky gives a whole lot of reasons to pity Catholics, but I don't think you will find a whole lot of traction telling Catholics to abandon their Church over one idiot in a white dress.

455 Not sure what your objection is to the grandeur associated with leading 1/4 of the worlds population.

No, no, lots of respect for much of the catholic church. My thought is that if Jesus was walking around from town to town, staying in other people's homes then that should be the model. Sure that if Jesus had thought there should be some really elaborate buildings for the church and lots of really complicated rules he would have mentioned it.

The reason that church wanted the elaborate buildings and such is that they were trying to establish themselves relative to the political powers not because of any biblical teaching.

Really, I find it somewhat offensive that the church collects offering before communion. Pretty sure that the cover charge is not how Jesus set things up.

You don't have to become unpleasant about this.

As I said, nobody is forcing you to be Catholic.

I think you made your point. It wasn't particularly enlightening for me, but it made any number of things clear about you.

Now, tell me all about how the truth is found in the 20,000+ denominations that have sprung up because folks didn't like Catholics. I'm dying to hear all about it.

466 How does this sentiment square with the doctrine of Papal Infallibility?

Posted by: bonhomme at March 23, 2018 04:53 PM (iv0p7)
Papal Infallibility applies only to church doctrine and only when the Pope speaker ex cathedera ("from the chair"). It is rarely invoked and it does not apply to whatever Frankie thinks about global warming or Islam. Catholics do recognize that the Pope is human and sins and errs like the rest of us - that's why the Pope has his own confessor. It's Protestants who think the Pope has more power over what Catholics think and believe than he actually has. Even lib Catholics who like Frankie would not say he's infallible on every subject. We know - we've had bad Popes before. This too shall pass.

Same. Simply asking. Mentioned upthread that there is a lot I admire about the catholic church, however, lots that is hard to square with reason and logic.

Lots of catholic friends, some of which are priests. Lots of them would never put up with the inconsistencies they have in the church anywhere else.

A Jesuit priest served for years Sundays next to our regular parish priest for years. Incredibly smart guy, taught at Seattle U as well, and did a lot more.

When he was transferred to another parish (they only stay so long, then transfer) I said to him, "thanks for giving us insight to help us understand what is complicated, and questioning what always seemed obvious."

It made his day, he said so. Jesuits are considered the radicals in the CC. Questioning authority is kind of their mantra.

We have one friend who is a professor at a catholic university. very interesting fellow. ridiculously smart but very dogmatic. our friends who are parish priests are generally not as smart but much more "reasonable" when doing things / less dogmatic.

generally think the church went off track when they got bigger. Some of that is understandable since after the fall of rome they were the biggest most educated game in town. Not sure the scholastic period helped much either when they were trying to use logic to answer the imponderables. Lots of what they did is understandable but not sure that means it was the wisest thing to do or should be continued.
