Related and unrelated: I finally saw the movie, Django Unchained.
Oh my, Quint is fond of the N word. It's a well made movie, as all of his films are, and it is "entertaining," if you watch it as a fantasy film. Which I did. One of the best parts was Tarantino himself, in the role of an Aussie. It's funny and stupid, and totally ridiculous. If you try to see that scene in particular as some sort of realistic event, you will hate it.
I've decided Tarantino is making ultra violent cartoon fantasies, and then I just enjoy them as such.

About the gloves: He is wearing his left glove, and holding his right glove in his gloved left hand. I have seen this in many formal portraits, and even some 19th century and early 20th century photographic portraits. I have an honest question what is it with the majority of 'ettes about shoes? My wife is not a shoe 'ette so this fascination that some women have with shoes is puzzles me. I have never been a shoe aficionado. I buy only enough shoes as I need to rotate during the work week, plus one pair of work/hunting boots, a pair of winter sorrels and two pairs of sneakers.
I don't get it. Especially the women at the office who wear sandals during the winter and complain that it's cold. But that's a different story.

When at YMCA camp the summer I was 9 or 10 one of the kids in my cabin was the son of this weather guy. This was a very big deal for us all, his dad being Bozo.

Don't get it either. I currently have two pairs of shoes-a brown and blue pair. My boots are clunky looking things one might wear on a farm, I expect, but I think some women think they add very much to an ensemble and can look very sexy depending on what you wear.

Yep. My son got out the snow blower and did our driveway, the elderly folks' next door, and the one across the street where the guy is in the hospital. We do occasionally have those 2' snowfalls, but only about once every 5 - 10 years. I love them. I love how quiet it is and how no one has to go anywhere. They just can't plow fast enough here when those big storms hit.

Not at all. I can think of many good careers that don't require a tie. Just as an example, our plumber lives in a big nice paid-off house. And I've never seen him in a tie.

We have a local tradition where if a male friend passes away, we hold a memorial dinner for the deceased and a family member brings the ties that belonged to same and we all take one.

That's because you live in CA. When my family moved there in the 80s, my dad (an engineer) would go to work dressed in a suit and tie just like he did back here, and his coworkers would laugh and call him a "captain of industry." It took him a while but he finally stopped wearing a tie and suit.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, go to visit Phoenix or LA. Even the people who still go to church feel ok wearing cut off jeans and t-shirts half the time. I remember even 20 years ago, going to one of the suburbs of LA and being surprised that it was no big thing for girls to wear bikinis and sandals to go shopping at the grocery store.
