it was mentioned in the ONT that De Blahsio was mouthing off about this storm being "Proof of Global Warming!" That isn't just idiotic, I think people miss the real trick there - if it had been warm and sunny in NYC today, then De Blahsio would have tweeted "Always used to snow in March! This warm weather is Proof of Global Warming!!!!"
Probably the best way to tell the difference between Science and a Religion is this: Scientific theories are always falsifiable by observable evidence. Religious beliefs, however, are constructed so that they are ALWAYS confirmed by any possible evidence, no matter what it may be. "Global Warming" is now the new liberal buzzword for "The Will of Allah". The only way to change the Will of Allah will be if we make great sacrifices and repent sincerely of our wicked western ways. 'Gun control' is not about guns. The phrase 'Gun Control' is clever verbal 'sleight-of-hand' misdirection designed to obscure the fact that what's really going on - is illegally taking away the constitutional rights of another minority group; this time law abiding gun owners. If you wish to understand the left's bigoted thinking substitute the word "Negro" for the word gun and you will see that Democrats never change, they are just up to their old tricks. Because the left can't have "Negro free zones" or "Jap free zones" anymore, they satisfy their bigotry with "Gun free zones". Posted by: An Observation at March 22, 2018 09:47 AM (UR3h8) 158

Oh my, Quint is fond of the N word. It's a well made movie, as all of his films are, and it is "entertaining," if you watch it as a fantasy film. Which I did. One of the best parts was Tarantino himself, in the role of an Aussie. It's funny and stupid, and totally ridiculous. If you try to see that scene in particular as some sort of realistic event, you will hate it. I've decided Tarantino is making ultra violent cartoon fantasies, and then I just enjoy them as such. Bozo info from previous thread:
Marcus T: Frank Avruch, who played Bozo the Clown from 1959 to 1970, has died. Chi-Town Jerry: Avruch was the Boston Bozo. Larry Harmon was the owner of the character and he franchised it in big TV markets across the country. Bob Bell played him here in Chicago for almost 25 years. Anagram Nation: [Harmon] didn't originate the character, though. Bozo was originally just a cartoon character created at Capitol Records by Alan Livingston. It was for a series of children's book/record combos. The first live-action Bozo was Pinto Colvig, also known for being the voice of Disney's Pluto and Goofy characters. c/o Blog Heap o'Links http://mindfulwebworks.com/blog-heap Posted by: mindful webworker - lost my mind in that boating accident at March 22, 2018 10:17 AM (PukHz) 362

The detail in this portrait is beautifully rendered. For some reason, I was drawn to the red sole and heel on the burgomaster's left shoe. Clearly a status symbol.
About the gloves: He is wearing his left glove, and holding his right glove in his gloved left hand. I have seen this in many formal portraits, and even some 19th century and early 20th century photographic portraits. Was this pose with the gloves a symbol of status or authority, or just an affectation? Maybe it's just an invitation to shake hands . . . Posted by: DynamiteDan at March 22, 2018 10:18 AM (MqzWH) 369

Dear 'ettes
I have an honest question what is it with the majority of 'ettes about shoes? My wife is not a shoe 'ette so this fascination that some women have with shoes is puzzles me. I have never been a shoe aficionado. I buy only enough shoes as I need to rotate during the work week, plus one pair of work/hunting boots, a pair of winter sorrels and two pairs of sneakers. I don't get it. Especially the women at the office who wear sandals during the winter and complain that it's cold. But that's a different story. When at YMCA camp the summer I was 9 or 10 one of the kids in my cabin was the son of this weather guy. This was a very big deal for us all, his dad being Bozo. The week of camp had a parents' visiting day, and I spotted the weather guy and his wife in the parking lot. I ran up and asked him, "Are you Bozo?" He replied, "Not right now I'm not," and I ran off. Heh, esteemed journalist, meteorologist, and spokesman for the local high-end men's clothing store, "Are you Bozo?" The War of the Reunions (1683-84) was a short conflict between France and Spain and its allies. It was fueled by the long-running desire of Louis XIV to conquer new lands, many of them comprising part of the Spanish Netherlands, along France's northern and eastern borders. The war was, in some sense, a continuation of the territorial and dynastic aims of Louis XIV as manifested in the War of Devolution and the Franco-Dutch War. Shocked to see a story on NBC this morning during their network morning show, whatever it's called.
Southern Missouri school district that has had trained gun-carrying employees in their schools for years. It was on in background so I did not hear if they were teachers or a mix of some teachers and others. But in-school people. Interviews with teachers and supervisors and parents and students, one a well-spoken high school upperclassman. Everything said was in support of the programs, no matter how the reporters tried to skew the interviews. What a surprise. Posted by: Les Kinetic at March 22, 2018 10:50 AM (5OEn4) 548

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, go to visit Phoenix or LA. Even the people who still go to church feel ok wearing cut off jeans and t-shirts half the time. I remember even 20 years ago, going to one of the suburbs of LA and being surprised that it was no big thing for girls to wear bikinis and sandals to go shopping at the grocery store. Posted by: Buzzsaw at March 22, 2018 11:01 AM (aVYsC) I don't know. Just, my grandparents always said how much of a disappointment I was because I didn't have the sort of job that expected me to wear a suit and tie every day. Posted by: Hikaru at March 22, 2018 11:06 AM (9TK8E) 619

A full Windsor is not appropriate with all suit, shirt, and tie combinations. A thinner lapel, dictates a thinner tie, a smaller knot and a narrorer collar. And vice versa.

that.
No, Republicans offered DACA for $25B of wall funding - Dems balked. There is apparently $1.6B in wall funding in the bill. Somewhat more than crumbs. Posted by: MFM at March 22, 2018 11:03 AM (jHrzU) ----- Of that $1.6B, only $600 million goes to wall. Oh and in the language, those funds can't be used for a concrete wall. Re: attire. Both the Dutch and the Pilgrims were Calvinist. Calvinists didn't go in for flashy. Maybe these migrations partly explain why we aren't yet as bad as Europe as regards Muslims. All the Christian hardasses (like Mennonites) left Europe and all that was left were secularists.

I wear ties less and less. I am self employed and can wear what I want. It depends on the customer that I am meeting with. But when I do wear them now I remember how much I hate wearing them! Usually if I have to dress up a sport coat with a dress shirt and slacks are just fine. Ties now are usually for weddings and funerals. I have plenty in stock but I never know what the current trend is, super wide, in between or the ugly skinny ties.

Ties were always an incredibly stupid piece of ornamentation. They evolved from cravats, which made a kind of sense if you lived in northern Europe during the winter and had no central heating.
but for anyone living in a temperate region post-little ice age, they're an idiotic affectation. Makes as much sense as a T-Shirt with a tie printed on the front. Posted by: Tom Servo at March 22, 2018 11:13 AM (k1TUh) 631
"If you don't have to wear a tie every day, and you're not retired, you've failed in your choice of careers."
A tie (or any kind of dress code, for that matter) means that you're in a position where other people get to decide what clothes you wear. In other words, you're somebody's bitch. It's right there in your own words. "HAVE to wear a tie". Posted by: Anagram Nation at March 22, 2018 11:17 AM (aId/R) 632
