Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Second Package Sent By Bomber Found in Austin-Area Fedex Facility; Investigators Think They've ID'd the Store From Which the Package Was SentAs you all know, an explosive device "bound for Austin" and probably also sent from near Austin (my guess) blew up as it was being jostled riding the conveyer belts in the Schertz, TX Fedex facility. The bomb was packed with nails and injured a Fedex worker. Early reports also mentioned a second unexploded "device," or bomb, sent by the same person being found. That appears to have been a misstatement by police. But the 1:05pm update from this Texas paper (which I assume is 2:05 east coast) says Fedex has confirmed a second package sent by the same person who sent the bomb. Not a bomb, but a package, which is almost as useful to any investigation. If this turns out to be true, I think this guy will be identified. If you can figure out when and where this was sent, you know where the bomber was at a specific time, and I'm thinking that there will be traffic cameras and other cameras that will have caught vehicles going to and from the store, and of course Fedex workers may be able to supply a physical description. (I assume he didn't present them with his real name or address.) Investigators seem to have located the Fedex store that shipped the package(s) -- the Fedex store in the Sunset Valley suburb of Austin, and are investigating the location. That via FoxNews TV. I think this guy is in trouble. More: Commenters are saying that UPS and Fedex all have video surveillance of their stores and counters, so this guy (likely in some kind of light disguise) is probably on video, too. Even assuming light disguise, we'd be able to get sex, race, age range, approximate height and weight, etc. Add that to the fact that he almost certainly knows the black and Hispanic neighborhoods well (serial killers prefer hunting in areas they're familiar with) and police will have some good information to work with. Notice that when he felt the heat putting bombs in some neighborhoods (feeling like people were on the lookout, etc.), he didn't just switch over to other neighborhoods. He changed tactics completely, putting one bomb on a hiking trail far from (most) prying eyes, and then changed tactics again, risking going to a Fedex store to mail the packages from Austin right back to Austin. That suggests that he is probably like the usual serial killer who hunts in areas he knows well but is afraid to hunt in other areas. It's also possible, of course, that he just abandoned the leave-the-package-on-the-doorstep completely, so we can't read much into his preference of neighborhoods to leave bombs in. But then, he could have just gone 15 minutes outside of Austin to a suburb to try the leave-the-package-at-the-house trick. He didn't. He just does not seem comfortable outside of certain areas of Austin. Anyway, his career as a serial bomber is probably drawing to a close. More: Commenters are pointing out there are ways to drop off packages at a drop-box without having to go into the Fedex store. So maybe no video of the guy. But still, even assuming he did this, you'd have a range of times at which he could have dropped off the package, and traffic cameras can still pick up some likely vehicles. Though then you have a lot less, and lot more traffic camera footage to go through, and a lot of cars you'd just guess might be that of the bomber. Actually, if he did this, I guess you wouldn't have much at all.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Well if he just dropped it on a pile it would have been scanned in and it wouldn't get delivered, but of course it didn't get delivered so maybe.
If it was a drop box, those are video'd as well. It'll be harder to pick him out, and he'd still need a shipping number so he had some contact to get it shipped, even if over the internet. Using a shipping service was the next logical step but, it increases the odds a lot that he will be caught. Posted by: simplemind at March 20, 2018 03:32 PM (RHZXc) 116

In other words the only actual purpose for gun free zones is to harass and ensnare the law abiding - it has nothing to do with protecting anyone from anything. Posted by: An Observation at March 20, 2018 03:43 PM (UR3h8) 192

Pretty sure it is. Just requires work and space and time. Without wanting to worry any LEOs, you can make explosives from fertilizer and other easily-obtained chemicals. Though then you have a lot less, and lot more traffic camera footage to go through, and a lot of cars you'd just guess might be that of the bomber. maybe, but the guy only went to Fedex after planting bombs himself four times. He wasn't showing any particular connection to Fedex. I don't see "teenager." Serial killers are routinely profiled as white, male, 20s-30s, single. The "single" part is partly because it's believed they're loners and losers, but also because serial killers need a lot of time ALONE with no one asking "Where were you last night?"
A teenager is going to have at least one parent and will not have the free time to assemble bombs or go out at night to drop off packages. The guy maybe has some connection to UPS or Fedex and may have kept the company uniform to pass through neighborhoods without suspicion. yes, and there have been married serial killers. But, playing the probabilities... Also, it's possible this is a teenager. "Time away from prying eyes" could mean a disabled parent, with the family living on disability. A very disabled parent would presumably not be very capable of keeping an eye on a teenager, as the teenager would effectively be head of household as far as going out to get food and stuff. But again, just playing the probabilities, there has to be some reason this guy can do these dark things with no one noticing, and "single adult" is more likely than the alternatives. Impeachable offense is whatever gets you impeached and removed, which would be done by an accountable political branch (Congress), which means it is a political decision.
However that does not sever all ties with legal substance and common sense, as the electorate (mostly) still thinks of actual crimes under current law as the real basis for an impeachment. And of course there would be nothing remotely illegal about firing a special counsel. And there should be nothing even interesting, much less controversial, about firing a special counsel whose appointment does not comply with the governing DOJ regulation. And, though given an inappropriate assignment involving counter-intelligence and not criminal statutes, has been unable to find anything even within *those* illegitimate parameters. Graham is a particularly loathsome POS. Probably knows better (though not sure, he's no genius), but persists with idiotic positions anyway. His comment in question is particularly rich - he calls the US a "rule of law nation". Right, Lindsay, because an illegitimate special counsel lacking a predicate crime to investigate, who has already perhaps been involved in a criminally tainted prosecution (Flynn), just screams "rule of law". Oh - and Graham's fanatical, bizarre devotion to expanding and codifying the worst threat to the rule of law (illegal migration), also just practically screams "rule of law". Lots of screaming going on here. Posted by: rhomboid at March 20, 2018 04:51 PM (QDnY+) 658

Where are they supposed to park? Are they building attached garages then, like airports have. Those multi-level structures? Who the hell would buy a place with no parking? I swear, the Thetans really do exist and have taken over the West Coast. Posted by: prof disarray, gumdrop gorilla channel at March 20, 2018 04:26 PM (LZJOv) Try driving in downtown Seattle during weekday rush hour. You can't. Traffic comes to a standstill, sometimes 15 minutes to go a block on a main city street. And there was no car crash to cause it. A main street that would take 5 minutes to transverse late at night, can take 45 minutes or more, and that is during a sunny day in the summertime. A rainy day is even worse. The city traffic engineers are taking away car lanes and giving them to bicycles. But even worse, is now they are taking the closest lane to the sidewalk and letting restaurants build outdoor seating areas. Then they move the bike lane one more lane away and take another car lane.2nd Avenue, a southbound one-way street, used to be 4 through lanes, and a parking lane on each side. That was maybe 20 years ago or so. Now, it is two through lanes. And only one side for parking, except most of that is also not there because of all of the construction taking that lane away. And the city population has exploded, to boot. I still love the geography of this state. I expect to be moving over to the eastside of the Cascades in a year or two. It is a popular move for many that is rapidly growing. Working on a deal, have the property locked down, and it has water rights. Gotta stay ahead of the insanity, or be devoured by it. Also, the security tapes for the store might be erased after a few weeks, but they hold onto the cash register security tapes for much longer. The shit that gets shoplifted is just "the cost of business", but employees stealing out of the company till is an entirely different thing. That is the store's money. This bombing spree reminded me of a conversation I had years ago with a Marine friend (1st Sgt) who did 6 tours in Afghanistan. He remarked he wont be surprised when mass murder is by IED instead of a gun. He said his unit as did many others had a ton of improvised explosive training in order to recognize things out of place in country.
I dont mean to impute any veterans ( Im a non combat USMC vet myself). I thought it unlikely but defered to his opinion as he would know better than I how easy or difficult they are to make. My guess is a minority veteran but its just a guess (The shooter in Dallas comes to mind) Maybe its Biff from the local college or Mohammed but I dont think the location or victims imply that. Whomever it is that is some evil stuff right there. Random victims is just plain scary. Cant even pretend to fight back against that stuff. Coworker's dad lives two streets from where one of the bombs exploded. He is adamant about ignoring the warnings to stay inside and work in his yard. Her sister is flying to Austin to see him asap and hopes they can keep him inside until someone's caught.

I hope somebody realizes who this psychopath is and turns him in. My guess it is a guy, youngish (late 20s to early 30s), skinny, white, weird but possibly charming to strangers, not a veteran, lives with his mom (whom he hates, but he has no one else close to him who can stand him), has known mental health issues and is possibly on drugs for it (or should be taking them and isn't), is bright, but lacks any accomplishments, has abused animals, might be going to college and/or has a dead-end job (that he might have recently lost), no girlfriend or 'dates' crack whores, has no political leanings, or if he does, it's not something a rational liberal or conservative would recognize, might have recently suffered a loss or emotional trauma in his life, and is possibly a pedophile. Probably not gay or transgender. Definitely not religious, but probably not an atheist. It's no use trying to understand why he's doing this -- he's not living in the same world as sane people.

Sorry but too rushed to read all the comments, so pardon if this has already been pointed out.
To ship Fedex you need a label. How, where, and when that label was printed should prove to be some valuable intel. Printed online? net address captured. Printed in store? A good look at the perp via cameras. Printed from a commercial account? Now we know where the jackass works. Posted by: SillyMe at March 20, 2018 05:37 PM (adkxu) 669
I used to live right there (it was my go-to Kinko's before FedEx bought them) and IIRC (I may not), that is the location from which whatisname faxed in the fake Bush Texas Air National Guard memos in 2004.

I disagree with spreading the news that the police may know the store from which the package was sent. It's too likely to enable the bomber to get away.
Of course, if the police publicized that fact themselves, then go for it; it would probably mean they have multiple suspects and want to smoke out the actual perp by spooking him while they're watching. Posted by: jdgalt at March 20, 2018 11:41 PM (3SFo/) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0827 seconds. |
