McCabe: Comey Was Aware of My Leaks to the Press

Really?

Because Comey told Congress that he had never leaked and was aware of no leaks.

Following his termination late Friday night, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe declared that he was "singled out" after "unrelenting" attacks by President Trump and critics. McCabe's objections are less than credible, given the virtually unprecedented recommendation of career officials to fire the one-time acting FBI director.

However, McCabe may have rectified his "singled out" status with his long statement criticizing his termination: In the middle of it is a line that could be viewed as incriminating fired FBI director James Comey, not just in leaking sensitive information but also in lying to Congress.

McCabe is accused of misleading investigators about allegedly giving information to a former Wall Street Journal reporter about the investigation of Hillary Clinton and the Clinton family’s charitable foundation. McCabe asserts in his post-firing statement that he not only had authority to "share" that information to the media but did so with the knowledge of "the director." The FBI director at the time was Comey.

"I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor," McCabe stated. "As deputy director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter."

If the "interaction" means leaking the information, then McCabe's statement would seem to directly contradict statements Comey made in a May 2017 congressional hearing. Asked if he had "ever been an anonymous source in news reports about matters relating to the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation" or whether he had "ever authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation," Comey replied "never" and "no."

Howard Kurtz may have already reported on the leak that sunk McCabe, as Mollie Hemingway wrote about in January.

The FBI's top brass initiated conversations with a White House official that were quickly leaked to CNN, according to a new book.

Two news outlets had reported yet another "bombshell" Russia story that was bullshit. McCabe contacted the White House to tell them that the story being reported was, in the view of the FBI, untrue.

So McCabe called the White House to tell them that.

Reince Priebus asked McCabe if he would mind telling the press that as well, because the cable "news" stations were blathering about it as if it was the Next Huge Story (after yesterday's Next Huge Story, of course).

What happened next will amaze you: Someone very familiar with the thoughts and feelings of Andrew McCabe called the press to tell them that Reince Priebus was pressuring senior FBI officials to knock down a media story.

From Kurtz's book:

Now, a week later, CNN was airing a breaking news story naming Priebus. According to 'multiple U.S. officials,' the network said, 'the FBI rejected a White House request to publicly knock down media reports about communications between Donald Trump's associates and Russians known to U.S. intelligence.'

Priebus was stunned by the implication that he was pressuring law enforcement. Had he been set up? Why was the FBI leaking this information when one of its top officials had initiated the conversation?

Incidentally, this incident did in fact involve Comey, because Priebus also asked Comey to tell the press what the FBI's assessment of the story was (that it was untrue). Comey said he'd think about it and might testify to that effect at an upcoming congressional hearing.

And yet: Soon after, someone was leaking to the press that the FBI had "rejected" the request by the White House to share its assessment of the story with the press.

And now we learn, very curiously, that McCabe says of the leak he got fired for that Comey knew about his "interactions" with the press and approved of them.

Connection? I don't know. I'm sure that Comey will clear this all up in the book he's written, for which he's charging $100/ticket for attendance at his book tour talks.

Will he be doing a Q&A afterwards? Doubt it. It would be too easy for people to pay that $100 and ask him some very difficult questions.

Apologies for Lateness: I got hit with bad insomnia last night and took a sleeping pill at 4:30 am. Well, it worked, but it knocked me out until 1 pm, and I'm still foggy.

It was enough to get him immediately demoted after Wray read the memo.

I bet McCabe *wishes* this were just about leaking. It's not.

They do it the old-fashioned leftist way, by selling them to public libraries and schools, i.e., by sucking up taxpayers' money.

Go to conservative tree house and read the "Big Picture" post. Diagrams and everything!

The one interesting twist in their theory was that Steel wasn't the source of the info for the Dossier: It was the FBI. Steel was just there to launder the information so the DOJ/FBI's fingerprints weren't on it.

And of course the brings into question McCain's roll in this as he was the one who supposedly brought the Dossier back from the UK.

What if McCain's aide was delivering the Dossier, not picking it up?

But it wasn't just the South. Both sides were all revved up for War and sure the other side would quickly surrender. Northerners came out in carriages like tourists to watch the first battle.

It was not what they expected.

235 What to wait for. It's more than leaks. And hiding in plain sight.

Strzok was the point on framing Flynn. His texts show his links to a corrupted federal judge (Contreras) who gave the FISA warrant AND was about to convict Flynn. And Strzok links to the corrupted acting DOJ Sally Yates who ran the frame of Flynn. And Mueller brought the case against Flynn, including by threatening his son and by improperly withholding exculpatory evidence. Mueller is either complicit, or a catspaw.

Were Comey and Lynch involved. Rice and Power for the unmasking.

This alone is the scandal of the century. All we need to complete is Strzok (or his boss Priestap) to sing ... Let us pray!

I don't think the follow your dreams advice is awful. But pursuing your dreams may come at a cost (usually comes at a cost). And sometimes you may not exactly know your dreams. I think people ought to follow their passion - but passion can be developed. Follow your dreams should never replace working hard. Because even your dreams typically require a lot of work.

260 Democrats have rejected a proposal from President Donald Trump that would have extended the DACA amnesty for three years in a swap for $25 billion in wall funding, according to Politico.
The closed-door bargaining took place over the weekend but has crashed because Democrats wanted Trump to pay a much higher price for the wall funds, said Politico.

The Democrats would only agree to the wall funding if Trump agreed to citizenship for at least 1.8 million younger illegals, not just work permits for the 680,000 DACA enrollees.

Which is why ya can't ever work with the left...give them an inch and they want a mile...Well here's my offer: Nothing and I'd appreciate if if the left pay to deport all the illegals

You're right, that is total crap. You think the guys who pick up trash or who work in the sewage treatment plant are following their dreams?

Academia is chock-a-block with people who yearn to be called "professor," and yet never will be. Every department has a number of such groupies, and they're very sad.

MLB doubtless is the same. For every guy who makes it, there's an army who didn't, sometimes for trivial reasons. A number of guys I play ball with made it to MLB - briefly, usually a matter of weeks/months - and many more made it to the high minors. One guy, a catcher, was in the high minors until he finally gave up; the guy playing over him in the big club was Johnny Bench. So unless Johnny stepped in front a bus, he was NEVER going to be called up, and yet never dealt to another team, either, just in case Johnny DID step in front of a bus.

----------

I used to think that, but don't anymore.

When country was founded, we had a 2.5:1 ratio of congressmen to senators. Now it is 4.35:1. This has had the effect of diluting each Congressman's relative power with respect to the legislature. Their power to the federal government has been further diluted as states were added. Thus, an original congressman had a lot more power. On the surface, diluting their power seems good. But I propose it is not. As now their only purpose is to get reelected. Add more Congressmen, and it will only exacerbate the problem. Shrink it and their relative power increases. To the point where one man has more influence against the other branches than they do now. Some day, I'll get around to writing my paper on my theory.

Assume it was addressed above, but I believe and hope to gawd there are much, much, much more serious criminal liabilities for both Comey and McCabe than perjury.

Not that it's nothing - in this case, it would be perjury that was very pertinent and substantive to the larger issues, not a "process" crime only resulting from an investigation.

But abuse of power, deprivation of rights under color of law, and conspiracy for this and various other serious felonies is a whole lot tastier. And more likely to finally overwhelm the Maginot Line of media distortion and black-out. So that the broader public actually begins to understand what a lawless Third World s**t-hole these people made the Beltway for the last 8 years.

--------

I'm in complete agreement on that.

If you look at it this way, being a senator / Congressman under the original compact meant you had a lot more relative power against the other branches. The Presidency has basically stayed as one. The Supreme Court has expanded to 9. So those two branches have stayed the same, while the legislative branch has grown. I believe this has had very negative and unintended consequences.

You don't need to use an official police force or army to threaten violence or carry it out. All you need is a bunch of (soon co-opted) thugs and a government that (selectively) gives them 'space to destroy.'

Yeah, there will be blood.

I see the same effect in the gun debate. The main argument against the 2nd amendment boils down to it is an anachronism that is unnecessary because we now have better police and the government will never turn on the populace.

This coming from the party of Snowden and Black Lives matter (the cops (government) are trying to kill black people) is crazy. They don't have an understanding of history or of how special a time and place we occupy. The hard times will come again.

Like James Spader's killer in Two Days in the Valley.

452 The MSS notes that Hernandez was probably a self hating gay because the culture-I'm not sure if they meant the NFL culture of his ethic culture- is so anti Gay, and this of course might be the reason that he killed Odin what's his name-because he found out about Hernandez being gay......because that of course is a great reason to kill somebody/s

454 I keep waiting for SOMEONE in the rogues gallery ----Comey, Brennan, Clapper, etc,--to eat a bullet.
But that would require a certain dignity.

455 "Hillary Clinton in her memoir identified with Cersei Lannister in Game Of Thrones"

Also featuring John McCain as Roose Bolton, Barack Obama as Joffrey Baratheon, and James Comey as Petyr Baelish.

456 SH, interesting views about Congressional membership.
Worthy of considerable rumination!

Please do. I've given it considerable thought. Its not the only problem, but it is a problem. Its somewhat counter intuitive, but from a mathematical point of view makes sense to me.

Plus, there just has to be a size with which any body (group) is no longer able to function.

Would football get better or worse with more people?

That happens quite a bit across a large number of fields. I've seen it many times.

Timing plays a big role, too.

458 A little advice on sleeping pills. I find if I can't get to sleep after laying in bed for two hours I take 2.5 mg of Ambien (1/4 of a pill). If I still am awake for another 1-1.5 hours I take another 2.5 mg. Either way I'm ready to greet the day with a few hours of sleep, but not being knocked out for the day.

460 Oh. I didn't sleep at all last night, either. Well, until 6:15 a.m., when I finally nodded off for an hour before my alarm sounded.

Great article and link up between McCabe and Comey and the Priebus. What a den of snakes. Turning a simple request that the FBI tell the truth into an implied threat and potential obstruction of justice.

461 Parson Comey's best-seller is called "A Higher Calling".

McCabe just signed a book deal, too. Tentative title:

"A Higher Assistant Calling".
