This is America. "Fuck you" is always a choice.
-- Insomniac - Nowhere Man
***

Where all your rights become only an accumulated wrong; where men must beg with bated breath for leave to subsist in their own land, to think their own thoughts, to sing their own songs, to garner the fruits of their own labors...then surely it is a braver, a saner and truer thing, to be a rebel in act and deed against such circumstances as these than tamely to accept it as the natural lot of men.
-- Sir Roger Casement
***

I hold it, that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.
-- Thomas Jefferson
***

It is not rebellion itself which is noble but the demands it makes upon us.

Here is an interesting take on the geopolitical repercussions of a second American Civil War. It ain't pretty.
Thinking the unthinkable on a Second Civil War
The notion some on the left have that they would gain from such a conflict is insane on every level. It would be a catastrophe of world historical dimensions, unleashing every bad actor in the world to enact its dream aggressions: China attacking Taiwan, Iran attacking Israel, and Russia restoring the old USSR borders, for starters.

******

It's not a great movie, but there is some fine acting, and whoever wrote it had a great time with some great lines. Sorry about the low quality video...

******

Well, this is nice! It's almost as if the school walkouts were actually overtly political! I had no idea. California High School Teacher On Leave After Questioning School Shooting Walkout

And let's end with Johnny Cash, because why the hell not!

Repost from gun, thread, since I was late.

Got my oldest son out last weekend with his first rifle, camping, etc.

It's a Henry mini-bolt youth, single shot, .22LR.

https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/mini-bolt-youth/

On the way out, we covered and explained the four laws of gun safety, for which he was a great student, and his attention was high. After we got out, cut firewood, and set up camp, he was chomping at the bit. We set up some cans and clay pigeons at about 15 yards, and after explaining the hold, explaining the sights, discussing trigger discipline, he took his first shot.

One clay pigeon exploded. The look on his face was priceless. A few more shots and we put it away for the night, got a nice dinner and a good night sleep. Next day was filled with dead pigeons, cans, etc., and lots of smiles.

I highly recommend the Henry mini-bolt youth. It has the 5-6 year old LOP, decent trigger, bright and color contrasting fiber optic sights, which made sight picture discussion and learning easy, and beyond being single shot, the bolt does not cock the firing pin, which helps slow down the process of loading, shoulder the rifle, sight picture, cocking etc., as a little bit of added safety measure for carrying the rifle loaded (some day).

Fun times and memories to last a lifetime.

114 Thinking the unthinkable on a Second Civil War

Speaking of which, reposted from the last thread:

229 "Just remember the next time someone asks why do you need a semi-automatic firearm. You answer a question with a question, why did Rosa Parks need to sit in front of the bus? Rights do not need reasons."

I've never had someone ask why do I need a semi-automatic firearm, but the answer would be it's not up for question. I don't say BFYTW, but I would mark the asker down as potential future enemy.

I didn't used to do that. I think that's where we are in this country now, however.

And people need to go slow on claims that a Second Civil War would be short. Sorry to be an Eeyore. Food for thought:

128 Interesting articles, but I don't think that there will be war. Not yet anyway. The progressive liberals are afraid of the Authoritarian Trump because the progressive believe that Trump would order Armies into the field and would seek to arrest the progressive people's party leadership because that is what they would do if they had the power to arrest their political opponents.

The republicans, on the other hand, are afraid of the consequences and are too afraid to make that awful step of giving to order to engage their political opposition on the military battlefield. The GOP was, and still is, afraid of Obama and his allies in the propaganda industry.

So I don't think it is going to happen. Not yet. The elections of '18 and '20 might tell us, especially if Trump wins a second term. Then we'll see what happens.

What comes after Trump is uncertain.

I'm convinced he doesn't care anymore.
Somewhere inside, the seed that made him start writing and keep writing the series, that seed is dead.

He got paid, SO much got paid. So no money stresses. He has no editor than can stand on his neck for the same reason.

And he doesn't plot his work, so he writes a lot but not productively. He's an 'exploration' writer or 'pants-er'. Now because of his writing style and lack of pressures on him, HBO has passed him up.

HIS story, is being finished by someone else.

So he's got no motivation to finish it anymore.

I'll offer even money he dies without finishing the series.

*dips toe into the water to test it*

If we're talking war here, should be be talking org and logistics? Because, although you can never have enough guns and ammo, we have enough guns and ammo.

The Left, those funded by Soros and those who are not, are organized. They have non-profits. They have NGOs. They have professional protestors.

Who do we have? The Promisekeepers and the Milita?

Those who would have peace had best prepare for war, for none will dare offend a force so well equipped for battle.

Are we preparing? Are we getting ready to prepare? How far behind are we?

I am not asking anyone to violate OPSEC, official or unofficial. That would be dumb.

But Communist guerrilla cells in WW2 would waste HOURS every day in songs and political speeches and they still were the ones out there wrecking Axis shit when everyone else was listening to the radio and nodding along to the BBC.

The Left is full of lunacy. But there's something motivating them to get shit done. Nobody's poking us in the back of the neck. And, good thing. No one wants a pistol shot to the head to be the punishment for disobedience.

But I worry that we're going to lose a fight (that may not happen) for lack of being willing to organize.

Dunno. Maybe that's the classic American position: get our asses kicked hard for a while until we remember all thing things we used to know.

Yes - that but also, the branches I am familiar with dont have teller drawers as we knew them anymore. Teller stations are basically ATMs that dispense cash toward the teller who then hands it to you. The cash is in a canister that the branch manager installs when the teller comes on duty. Think of a large printer ink cartridge. Balancing the cash drawer at the end of a shift is completely different than way back when.

Anyway, during a robbery, the teller hits the *Im being robbed* button on her screen - a silent alarm goes out immediately and a K or two is dispensed to the teller to hand over to the knucklehead.

235 heh. Just stepped out on the back porch, and saw that a patrol car was on the other side of the ravine between our house, and the next street over. Guy was shining his spotlight around.

Well I thought that was interesting. I watched for a minute or two until he left, then stood in the dark for a while listening. Yup. Something's out there.

Fetched Messers. Heckler & Koch, and stepped back out in the dark. Juuust about that time a bear came bounding around the corner of the house. Looked to be a yearling. He ran down the street fifty feet or so, then headed back down into the ravine.

326 Fun and weird trivia about the Whiskey Rebellion - David Bradford was a lawyer and Deputy Attorney General who was one of the key players in the Whiskey Rebellion. After Washington sent troops to his part of Pennsylvania, Bradford made a narrow escape and fled. (He probably would have been hung) He made his way to Spanish West Florida (now part of Louisiana) He built a plantation near St. Francisville, on a bit of high ground which also apparently was on old indian burial ground. His house, the Myrtles, is now an extremely popular tour destination and is known as the most Haunted House in America.

Having visited it, I must say it is an extremely spooky place.

This is a most impressive and quite informative link. Unknown (deliberately forgotten?) history, indeed. Well worth the time for the Horde to read and pass along.

Don't know what would happen today should such activity, to be polite, return full-force. We are in a different time, with a different people (see: mass immigration, legal and illegal), and with a very different ethos when it comes to law enforcement and our trust therein. What with Antifa, BLM, OfA, et.al., one just knows the left is chomping at the bit to relive such 'glory years'.

the cost for both has come down tremendously. in fact, they make a plug in for I-phones or Droids that turn your camera into a thermal scanner. it was ~$200 a couple of years ago, might be less now. saw it at Lowe's, bought it on Amazon through Ace's link.

Prices are still eye-watering for decent quality. The last sub-$1k optics I tried were still inferior to the unaided 29 year old night-adapted eye. The image was marginally brighter but the FoV was for shit and of course it killed your night vision for when you took it off; it was easier not to bother in the first place and just get acclimated.

Gen3 type optics are decent, but they start at $2.5k and go up. And FLIR-type optics start at about $4k for something worthwhile.

I'd love for light-amplification and longwave IR imaging to be accessible - and please let me know if you're aware of any that is - but it's still, from what I've seen, not really within reach for non-professionals.

412 GnuBreed, which casino?

I was just reading at FB, in one of their poker groups, about a hand that went bad at Pechanga poker room, my fave place to play. Apparently some of their dealers and floor people are incompetent.

Long story short, a player went all-in, the challenger (who was also complaining) called him... and when the original all-in player won, he demanded $150 more than he represented when he went all-in. On top of that, the original misrepresentation was *backed up* by the dealer, before the last card was dealt.

So the complaining player went to the floor, who said, "it's your responsibility to know how much the player's all-in was, not the dealer's, even though both of them misled you. Pay the extra $150."

Good grief.

She had me over at her place to work on it, I was a little nervous about being alone with her but since we had the project to work on and talk about it actually wasn't awkward and we got along pretty well. She excused herself to go to the bathroom, and I took the opportunity to smell one of her sneakers. I really overestimated how long she would be gone because when i looked up from the shoe she was watching me from the doorway. I didn't really know what to do so I said "I thought there was a mouse in your shoe". I'm not sure if she believed me or not. I made an excuse to leave like ten minutes after that because it was too awkward.

What should I do? Do I text her about it? I don't want her to think I'm a creep

Dunno. I know there's not many polar orbiters, that's for sure. It passed over Sydney at about 930pm local, on a seemingly due north path. Dunno if it was a satellite for sure, but it looked like one. Way, way too high and way, way too fast for an aircraft. Traversed the sky in seconds, maybe around a minute? It was blinking intermittently, like a reflection, rather than aircraft lights.

Plus they have local governments in certain areas covering for them, which should scare the shit out of every decent American. The same people who were praising Bill Ayers' bombing campaigns in the pages of the New York Times on September 11, 2001 will have no qualms about glorifying their Leftist heroes antics in employing violence to achieve Leftist ends.

The only thing our worthless goddamned media WILL complain about would be ANY attempt by those of us on the right to organize responses to the wave of assaults they intend to launch.

One thing that annoys me is the way that conservatives on this site and others will attack a person's military service if they disagree with the person's politics. For example, sneering that David French was only a JAG officer. Holy loly, what's that guy even up to these days. According to his wikipedia entry:

"Inconsistencies in his explanations, the uniform inaccuracy of his predictions, and a private investigator's findings all led to the general impression that the entire episode was an elaborate hoax."

Whether you sent it to their address as an ordinary order or sent it as a gift, I don't think it'll indicate your name on the outside in either case, though. The name only shows up on the invoice inside for regular orders or if you enter it in the gift tag on gift orders, and neither will show your name on the shipping tag.

Probably best to let them know to expect it either way.

597 Tombstone is NOT a great movie? The hell it's not!

The only way one might think it not great is the many high drama points--an unarmed Wyatt Earp throwing Johnny Tyler out of the saloon; Earp wading out into the stream to take out Curly Bill under a hale of bullets--all ridiculous stuff.

No, NOT ridiculous; EVERY scene in the movie took place as depicted based on first hand witness accounts.

I didn't even get into the astounding acting.

It's not perfect, but it is truly effing fantastic. I will brook no more uninformed slander of Tombstone.

Posted by: grammie winger - at March 19, 2018 06:23 AM (lwiT4)

612 Time to get up and have your corn flakes (or maybe not):

"Another unpublished experiment was carried out in the 1960s. Researchers at Ann Arbor University were given 18 laboratory rats. They were divided into three groups: one group received corn flakes and water; a second group was given the cardboard box that the corn flakes came in and water; the control group received rat chow and water."

"The rats in the control group remained in good health throughout the experiment. The rats eating the box became lethargic and eventually died of malnutrition. But the rats receiving the corn flakes and water died before the rats that were eating the box! (The last corn flake rat died the day the first box rat died.)"

"But before death, the corn flake rats developed bizarre behavior, threw fits, bit each other and finally went into convulsions. The startling conclusion of this study is that there was more nourishment in the box than there was in the corn flakes."

/ Leftists must love corn flakes.

/ I have no idea how true this story is but I like it.
