Good morning Horde. Hope you've had a good week and a better weekend. Let's take a look at some items that didn't get their due here at the AoSHQ this past week.

Enjoy these or other things in this open thread. Interact well with others and no running with sharp objects.

Have a great weekend!!!!

23 I'm already on my third cup.

So, I recently learned that the Maryland state song "Maryland, My Maryland" has some problematic verses that have somehow escaped the wrath of the snowflakes:

The despot's heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!
His torch is at thy temple door,
Maryland!
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland!

I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! She spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! She burns! She'll come! She'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!

That's just a few stanzas. The whole thing is a rip-snortin' call to arms. Every year it comes up for review but it hasn't been purged, YET.

Last third of the show was an interview with an author who wrote a new book about climate change. He was unbelievable.

Yup.....I cook mine at 325 for about 6 hours for a 5 pound piece.

Cook covered surrounded by the veggies and baste about every half hour.

When done, remove, let sit for 15 minutes, then slice and return to pan and cook uncovered for about 30 minutes, basting at your discretion.

Yeah, being formally discharged for "lack of candor" while under oath is going to leave a mark. Previously, these creatures have been allowed to slither away without any repercussions.

I didn't think Sessions was going to do it. Frankly, I think Sessions has read the tea leaves and figured it was either his job on the line or McCabe's. There's a new sheriff in town (Donny Two Scoops) and his patience is finite.

Mrs. JTB says use enough water to cover the meat and cook on low heat. The wrapper should give the time per pound. When the meat is well along, add the spuds and carrots. Add the cabbage only in the last 20 to 30 minutes. It has come out perfect every time.

Our slow cooker died and we use a heavy cast iron enameled pot on the stove. Works just fine.

In a smoker is best, but an oven would probably be better than a crockpot. You need to really melt the fat and brown the edges and a crockpot (which I generally like) just doesn't get the job done. Also, you *have* to cut across the grain. Nothing is going to change long, stringy fibers into short fibers except cutting.

Watched an hour long program recently about an overweight dude who went on a 30 day binge of fast food and lost weight in the process. A basic Paleo style meal. In Paleo:

bacon good
beef good
carefully remove contents, then take roll and crush under foot, then set roll ablaze

The dude actually lost weight -- almost ten pounds in 30 days. He stayed away from sugar/soft drinks, bread/rolls, and limited his calories to 2,000 per day.

If that engineering video that was linked last night is correct, then a lot of the early things we've been told aren't accurate at all, and there wasn't a "stress test" going on. From different sources, it sounds to me like some time before the collapse, someone passing under the bridge heard a loud "pop" like a whip cracking. (would have been a pre-tensioned cable snapping). After that, the crew on scene put a crane in the area and were working to try and find out/fix what had happened, and the entire thing collapsed during that process.

Obviously, they should have shut down the road instantly when they started to suspect trouble, but I won't be surprised if it ends up being like the Challenger O Ring fiasco - no one with the authority to order that move took the situation seriously until it was too late. That is, if the ground crew even communicated it at all before trying to counter it.

My main concern is that one of the selling points of self-driving cars is that they can "drive to the inch", and thus get a lot more cars through a given point (which is why transportation engineers love the concept). Two major issues though. One, they'd have to black the windows or would be decanting nervous breakdown cases at the end of the journey due to what were perceived as constant near accidents. Two, when a system is optimized for a given criteria there isn't flex to handle something going wrong. When, not if, something (mechanical failure, deer on road, whatever) disrupted the flow the chances of multi-car fatal pile-ups will be almost 100%.

Even if he lost all of them, he'll have book deals and gigs on CNN from now until 2024 and beyond.

Look at it this way; Simon Wiesenthal said about hunting down Nazi war criminals, punishing them will never bring back the millions of their victims. The purpose of trying them publicly and punishing them is to send a message to other would-be tyrants.

Of course, history after 1945 is not kind to Mr. Weisenthal's hope. And it's not exactly analogous to this situation.

But it does send a message.

John's first Master's was in Transportation Planning so I picked up a feel for their priorities. Self-driving cars are essentially a train with expanded range, each vehicle being its own railcar. In the planners' minds their flow-optimized system works neatly and safely at speeds and densities not achievable by human reflexes and with a minimal loss of autonomy. They refuse to acknowledge Murphy's Law though, which when dealing with the speed and densities expected means guaranteed disaster.

With the recommendation leaked to the press, it seemed like they were daring Sessions to do it. McCabe probably figured he had more to gain by making this public - and then reaping the MSM / Obama ally assistance if fired. Book deals don't come to people who quietly resign.

Many months before, we had the 3am obama tapped my phones, tweet, then we were treated by all the FISA abuse revelations.

Many months ago, Trump foreshadowed McCabe firing, with running out the clock tweet.

I trust Trump has this, and by extension, I trust that Sessions is working to plan. Trust the plan.

Ironically, while unfortunate, I suspect that it was necessary to actually allow Sessions to do his job. He was attached to the campaign and therefore, might have been subject to surveillance. Maybe the whole multi-dimension chess argument is specious, but much better to allow the whole turd get exposed by the mad-pooper than to give the illusion of framing the pooper.

The Doran piece from NR that Ace pushed yesterday was amazing. Ian Flemming, Larry Bond and Tom Clancy could not have collaboratively ginned up a plot so damning. Hopefully soon, Obama sees his pension stripped for his personal involvement also. My favorite part of the whole 14000 words, is the amazing stupidity of the antagonists.

453 As I understand the Fl bridge debacle... The main 180 foot span was placed last week. The final design has it supported by a large tower with suspension cables, but the tower hasn't been built yet, so the span has some sort of temporary support. Cracks were noticed by the engineer earlier in the week, and he gave FL DOT a "heads up" that he knows about them, in case someone complains. Despite the cracks, they went ahead with the stress test anyway, without closing the road beneath. After the stress test, it was noted that the previously tight temporary support cables on this new span, with new cracks, had loosened. Instead of sounding the alarm, closing the road and investigating, they just tightened the cables. Then boom.

519 512 I hope this is true. Is that the cabal is relatively small in number. (One of the reasons why Strzok pops up so much). That they're spread out over many agencies strongly suggests that there is a small number of puppeteers.

Wishful thinking, I'm afraid. See: Lois Lerner and Fellow Travelers.

Then, there is the media, which instructs the public how to think, and the entire corrupt (in every sense) Democrat Party.

When so many people under you have the same mindset, you don't necessarily need orders to do their bidding. You just assume that it's in keeping with the belief system and so you just do it.

Lerner may not have had a directive from Obama to persecute conservatives and other political enemies. She should just knew what the stakes were with the results of the 2010 midterms and then went ahead and did what she did.

That is a real problem.

524 the company that built the bridge is an official "Minority Owner Builder", are had complaints about repeated shoddy work.

But this is the cost of forced "diversity".

The Broward County school murders are sorta the same story. They kept crime down in schools by not reporting crime. That is probably why Trayvon was only expelled (or whatever) and not reported to police, before his fateful day where he (allegedly) attacked Zimmerman.

Coulter experienced the same problem of hiding "minority" crime when she tried to track down crimes by illegals. Our government covers up those stats, lies to the public, and endangers us.

Know whatch mean. I spent some time working for an aerospace contractor, wiring navigation equipment for commercial aircraft. The possible combination of wires in these harnesses was nearly half a million possible erroneous combinations. Only one correct one. Every one of the hundred plus connections had to be pinged out by QC and I was almost always dead on. Once or twice out of hundreds I'd bass ackwards a pair of wires.

On 9/11 early reports of failure in navigation equipment as the cause of the first airplane hitting the WTC made my heart almost fail. By the time the second plane hit I knew it was Islam. They were back at the WTC. Again.

"I read the NR story that Ace recommended yesterday and I think it's bs.
Not the facts or timeline, the motivation for their actions. "

I agree with this. It's a subtle whitewash, which is why it's in the National Review.

The base motivation was advancement. Comey wanted to be AG. Jimmy has had ties to the Clintons since forever.

So did Lynch. I'd bet Lynch was talking on the tarmac about her being the first black woman on SCOTUS.

Posted by: Ignoramus at March 17, 2018 10:51 AM (pV/54)

Man, maybe I just misread it, but I see no whitewashing, no glossing over, or highlighting good intentions, bad judgement. I see deeply flawed, politically motivated criminals plotting and conducting insurrection. Doran implies that each, individually, considers themselves as some sort of hero of the day, but Doran does not, nor is the reader convinced that they are nothing more than schemers who created and executed this assault on the very foundations of the Nation.

These people lied, with malice aforethought, in order to defeat President Trump. Even when presented with actual criminal conduct, the presence of classified information on Clinton's and Abudeen's computers, they deliberately covered it up, extending a lifeline to Clinton. Comey said there was "no intention" even though, and Doran highlights that intention is not a consideration in this particular statute even though he describes the process, as I did, the process of air-gapping information between unconnected systems, thereby intimating intent. Comey also provided to Clinton, the most important and intangible reason to vote for her; that powerful forces were allied against her pursuit, regardless her qualifications to be president, that various powers would do their utmost to prevent that; the government, the Republicans and the Russians.

Most importantly, Doran spells out exactly where this conspiracy was centered and where any investigation must eventually arrive. That Obama, perhaps not the mastermind as he is a simpleton, but he was the ringmaster who orchestrated all of it.

Good people that made bad choices in pursuit of the greater good? F THAT!
=====

Greater
Good = their jobs and pensions. Maybe a bit for the institutions
themselves. CIA, people working in the shadows for our safety, greater
than confidential informants in our cities; FBI, police enforcement for
our safety, greater than constitutional rights (and they have no legal
obligation for our safety); and, most of all, they are better than you.

After the election it was all #TheResistance. #Totheramparts. #saveusfromthefool.

Then we see and have evidence of an organized plot to nullify an election by the organs (lol) of the state .

And now that it seems to be unraveling we are starting to get the #yeahbutwemeantwell Right, right, right .

Um....lefties need to feel the sting of the wheels of justice as the law is evenly and justly applied to them with a slow grind on them on their way to financial ruin and prison.

What I read was the construction firm requested lane closures for the stress test. Not all lanes. Just two. I am thinking the two outermost lanes.

I read they had requested and received a general permit to close up to TWO lanes of traffic without consulting anyone. However, for the stress test, they didn't close any lanes at all.

This info was part the government agency covering it's behind, with the spokesman going on to whine that the construction company never requested to close four lanes (implicitly, 'why should we ever think of something like that, we're only charged with the public safety")

Posted by: SarahW at March 17, 2018 01:25 PM (Sp1NT)

538 So it's probably true that the construction folks never requested a general permit to close four lanes of traffic at any time they thought it necessary.
But there should have been one and it should have been given.

I wonder if this was Maybe this was a point of "community impact" negotiation and they could only ever get two. Who knows what those discussions were when they were had when construction was in planning stages.
