The Quote of The Day

Man. Always trying for immortality!!!

A US startup is promising to upload customers’ brains to the cloud using a pioneering technique it has trialled on rabbits.

The only catch, according to the company’s cofounder? The process is “100% fatal”.

Nectome, founded in 2016 by a pair of MIT AI researchers, hopes to offer a commercial application of a novel process for preserving brains, called “aldehyde-stabilised cryopreservation”. The process, which results in the brain being “vitrifixed” – the startup’s self-named term for essentially turning it into glass – is promising enough that it has won two prizes from the Brain Preservation Foundation, for preserving a rabbit’s brain in 2016 and a pig’s brain in 2018.

Influential startup accelerator Y Combinator has taken Nectome in, with the organisation’s chief executive, Sam Altman, becoming one of the 25 people to pay a $10,000 deposit to join its waiting list. “I assume my brain will be uploaded to the cloud,” Altman told MIT Technology Review

You know The ONT we are always looking out for you! Twenty one fast food employees provide some needed information.

1. If you see something on the menu and can’t find at least one or two other items that the ingredients could be used in, don’t order it. For example, my restaurant has a pulled pork sandwich. We don’t use the pork for anything else. Since it’s not ordered too frequently, it’s not fresh and the product you’re eating might be days or weeks old. It’s not going to get you sick, but it definitely won’t be as fresh as the other things on the menu.

As a teenager, I couldn't wait to get my driver's license and first car. My. How times have changed. Millennial Snowflake can't wait for driverless cars.

Yet, on the other hand, driving is often the first sense of adult-like freedom that most people get. Anyone with a license to drive remembers the first time they got into a car by themselves and pulled onto the open road. It’s hard to imagine a world where we can’t hop into our car, turn the radio up, and cruise our woes away. But it’s necessary.

Anyone who has ever been addicted to tobacco remembers the first time they smoked a cigarette. As an adult over the age of 18 it’s your right to choose to smoke cigarettes, but there’s a reason why (in the US, at least) you’re no longer allowed to do so publicly in most places.

Piss off.

Not so fast Special Snowflakes. The internal combustion engine and cars with drivers aren't dead yet.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD—A Wednesday morning panel at the ARPA-E summit provocatively asked if the auto industry is about to see ”The End of the Road for the Internal Combustion Engine?”

Though all the panel members agreed that gas- and diesel-based systems are on a path to losing market share, none would admit that the internal combustion engine (ICE) would be completely replaced by the electric vehicle (EV). At least before 2050. So what do industry leaders think will happen or should happen to the evolution of drivetrains in the future?

Does a lower “total cost of ownership” boost electric car sales?
Perhaps the most interesting perspective came from Amitai Bin-Nun, a vice president in charge of autonomous vehicle innovation for the nonprofit Securing America’s Future Energy, or SAFE. Bin-Nun argued that, without a transition to autonomous vehicles, EVs would not see the mass-market adoption that boosters have been hoping for

So what is it with states on the coast and their propensity to be complete financial basket cases? New Jersey tax, tax, tax. Spend. Spend. Spend.

Unfortunately, being the not so proud owner of the most distressed and underfunded public pension fund in the US is just the start of New Jersey's monetary woes, and as Bloomberg reports, New Jersey's fiscal situation is so dire that new Governor Phil Murphy has proposed taxing online-room booking, ride-sharing, marijuana, e-cigarettes and Internet transactions along with raising taxes on millionaires and retail sales to fund a record $37.4 billion budget that would boost spending on schools, pensions and mass transit.

The proposal which is 4.2% higher than the current fiscal year’s, relies on a tax for the wealthiest that is so unpopular it not only has yet to be approved, but also lacks support from key Democrats in the legislature, let alone Republicans. It also reverses pledges from Murphy’s predecessor, Republican Chris Christie, to lower taxes in a state where living costs are already among the nation’s highest.

According to legend, Spector insisted the band record one take of it, then play it back *and* sing/play to it again in the studio, with the recorder picking up both the recording and the new track of vocals.

172 some guys like this Dilley character and maybe the Qanon guy ... seem to indicate it is all a planned operation, mostly military. And there are allegedly thousands of sealed indictments around the country involved in some nefarious shit ... and it will be coming down bigly.

that sounds good ... maybe ... talk of much coming soon. Qanon ... some say is a larp or distraction ... maybe, but after Cohn he did say many more were to follow, and that was correct.

He also said "March Madness, the public will know soon". OK, hope so. There seem to be several of these insider contacts pointing in that direction ... hard to believe Mueller is just part of the plan, but it is one big rat nest to clean out.

Seems to me it would be great sport to back off about 500 yards, shelter behind a wall, and plink at those triggers with a high-powered rifle.

177 The process, which results in the brain being "vitrifixed" -- the startup's self-named term for essentially turning it into glass -- is promising enough that it has won two prizes from the Brain Preservation Foundation, for preserving a rabbit's brain in 2016 and a pig's brain in 2018.

Sticking a brain in a vat of formaldehyde and then uploading some data about it into the cloud ... I'm not sure why anyone would do that or if the data would be meaningful, as far as being able to recreate the person in the future. If I altered the data of 100 rabbit/pig brain profiles on the cloud to correspond with an animal being tortured, would that count as animal cruelty? It doesn't seem so. They might hail from MIT but they seem more like the spiritual relatives of Benny Hinn.

That's actually a fake quote; Twain didn't say it. He said something in kinda the same format:
"If I cannot swear in heaven I shall not stay there." But, even that wasn't published until after his death. He had a habit of jotting down ideas in a notebook. After his death, a friend went through the notebooks and published some of what he found.

McCabe worked for an FBI that eagerly trashes the Constitution, fabricates evidence, perjures themselves, leaks to the media, and happily celebrates ruining lives over political or personal vendettas
So fuck him and them

Just to clarify, I was quoting another poster and arguing against their position. Read back. McCabe brought this on his own family, as Cahvezsaid, so did Gotti. They did it to their own loved ones, no one else.

I repurposed the "service EGR" lamp, and put in a green filter with an arrow graphic, and mounted top center on the dash between the speedo and the tach.

It seems dad changed the financial poa in feb. 8th this year before he had radiation to his brain cancer. Made his best friend his new financial poa.

Bro and his 'dirty leg', his term, and dad are meeting at my house tomorrow at 8 at my house to go to brkfst.

Dad's new poa called me tonight and asked what we were gonna do bc it's getting so bad. They normally see each other 3+ times a week. I see dad or talk to him every day.

there is no way in hell we can put dad in assistid living. Not gonna happen. BF mentioned we may have to go to court to get something done. to assure dad's safety. Dad moved his entire 401 to another fund and doesn't remembeer anything about it.

Sorry to blather on. I'm scared shitless.

The old Second Narrows bridge was built as a bascule bridge, but after being hit and damaged by several ships, it was converted to a lift span. It had rail lines embedded in a wooden deck for autos.

357 Teem, first you have to the duties and obligations of a knight, and often serve as a page. You must be able to help the knight don and doff his armor, and carry his shield. In camp and battle you will also hold his horse and watch his back. In times of battle and its aftermath, you may be called upon to hold his prisoners or act as a runner, as you would be expected to in camp.
You also act in camp to polish and care for his armor and arms, and serve at his table.

Of course you could get a position as a Justice of the Peace, which is probably quicker.

I hadn't really ever thought about it that way. Did the FF protect speech and assembly to give us the ability to speak, organize and overthrow a tyrannical government. Was the 1st Amendment really designed to protect our ability to active seek revolution?

It is often mentioned, that the Third Amendment is obsolete, in that the U.S. Government does not try to "quarter" troops in private homes.

Which fails the point, altogether.

Said "quartering" was not a matter of seeking free room or board.

It was a way of installing the King's Eyes and Ears into EVERY home, and most especially, those suspected of housing revolutionaries, opposed to King and Crown.

Which leads to the Fourth Amendment, as to being secure in Papers and Effects... which those quartering bastards were likely to find....

Which leads to the Fifth Amendment, about Self Incrimination and all that rot.

And now, as to the Fourth Amendment, you ask why I will, to the point of bloodshed, refuse an Amazon Alexa or competing equivalent into my house?

Hell YES, the First Amendment is inclusive of revolutionary speech. Because, it was BY REVOLUTION, that the very Right in question, was SECURED!

No, because Jefferson (unlike Hamilton) figured that a well run government would not give cause for any groups to foment revolution since the citizenry THEMSELVES were the basis for the society and guarantors of their freedom and self interests, and in such a situation, to revolt against the state would literally be a revolt against themselves.

Any such situation that would drive such a society into revolution would be caused by the government excluding the citizenry from government and subjecting it to its will, instead of being an instrument of the citizenry to maintain their safety and freedoms; bringing revolution upon itself by these actions.

I would point out that under Hamilton and his BFFs, they fomented the Alien and Sedition act, and swelled the government and army and navy and used government posts as plums to reward supporters. Jefferson, Madison and Monroe pretty much stopped all that, shrunk the government and didn't award plum posts to supporters, and by the end of those 24 years, the Federalist party pretty much had ceased to exist. Since there was no reason for it, everyone got to do what they wanted for themselves, and didn't need to oppose the Jeffersonians.

Lay in plenty of hay, and brace yourself for a couple three rather shocking vet bills.

My day began at 0430, and I started work an hour later. Round trip from Galveston to the far West side of San Antonio and back.

I was done by 4 pm.

And I'm done again, now.

Hasta la nite nite, Horde!

435 Fellow whose cattle are grazing out there, his kids and grandkids are real ranchers. Hard-core like my Granddad. They'll give it a name when grazing and later praise it by name at the dinner table.

I covet the invitation to this table. Seriously, I do.

I'll pray the invocation over the steer, by name.

Said name should be a bit more cooked than medium rare, and a shade lighter than medium, by the way. And with an adequate char to the exterior, of course.

And share with the family, bourbon, cigars and candy withal, as directed by age.

Again.

Hasta la nite nite, Horde!

I wasn't even a fan, but she died too young.

461 Ralph Macchio vs Steve Vai in the movie Crossroads

https://youtu.be/CqdL36VKbMQ

If I had to guess, I would say they undercranked the camera in front of Macchio to make him appear faster, which is a common thing in martial arts films. Also you are hearing Steve Vai for both sides.

462 No man is moral in his own right. We are made of crooked timber. The system the founders sought was not one intended to elect the right people to do whatever they thought best, but rather one to prevent and restrain any man from doing what his nature would naturally bid him to do. The Constitution isn't a writ of authority, it is a restraining order. And we have watched the elites for generations trying to shed the shackles that the Constitution had rightly placed upon them. And the overbearing government we now possess is precisely the result we should expect now that they have largely shed those constraints and are acting exactly as the founders feared.

Didn't someone drop this here yesterday or am I mistaken? "We are made of crooked timber." A riff on Kirkland IIRC. Also the name of a douche liberal blog. The most evocative phrase to ever describe how our purpose is not a matter of skill or luck or even moral superiority. Almost religious epiphany.

A luthier sees a beam of crooked timber, and he cuts, and chips and sands. And after a pound of varnish and paint he makes a solid-body guitar, or something else beautiful. We are deeply flawed people. Our faults are greater than our virtues, both in number and in magnitude. And yet someone with only small skill can make us useful and beneficial. We will be redeemed.

467 Tom Petty "Running down a dream" is one of the greatest guitar riffs on par with Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb", Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child(Slight Return)" and Guns and Roses "Sweet Child of Mine."
Of course there are many others.
Thank you Mis. Hum.
