Someone's Leaving Package Bombs on Doorsteps in Austin, TX; One Teen Killed in Blast

Note well: They say these packages are not going through the mail or being delivered by a third party, but being left on doorsteps at night by the bomber.

So, if you're not expecting a package, and you don't see US Postal Service or third-party mail carrier markings on a package, maybe call a cop to take a look-see at it.

Two deadly explosions in Austin in the last two weeks are likely related, Austin police said Monday as they investigated the latest incident at a home in east Austin.

....

Austin-Travis County EMS says a 17-year-old boy died at the scene and a woman was taken to a hospital after the explosion around 6:44 a.m. in the 4800 block of Oldfort Hill Drive, which is between 51st Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Manley said one of the residents had taken a package from the front porch inside and it exploded when they tried to open it in the kitchen. The woman had non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

...

A man died at his home at the beginning of March after a "device" exploded, police say. Anthony Stephan House died after the explosion on his front porch around 6:55 a.m. March 2, on the 1100 block of Haverford Drive, which is about 12 miles away from Oldfort Hill Drive neighborhood.

Police said at the time they believed the Haverford Drive explosion was an isolated incident. Now, they are investigating them as related, and re-classified House's death from "suspicious" to "homicide."

Um, even without this second bombing -- why would you categorize a murder by package bomb as merely "suspicious" rather than as a "homicide"?

Are bombs generally thought of as merely "suspicious"?

"We do see similarities and believe these cases are linked at this time," Manley said. He acknowledged that both victims were African-American. He said at this point police are not ruling out that these incidents could be hate crimes, but cannot confirm at this time that they were.

Terrible, no matter what the motive.

Same with many growers, or other producers. And then there are the banksters ... the leveraged market players that are 2Big to Fail/Jail ... or Silicon Valley and the H1-Bs. Dems always lose the white vote ... always win the "minority vote". So that would be an easy comparison ... white GDP versus "minority" GDP.

One additional thing I wish Mollie et al would hammer home, aggressively, is the extremely dubious significance (in any sense) of Russian "interference". Obviously no impact on results, but that's just the start.

How does such "interference" compare with past Russian efforts? How does it compare to the efforts of other countries - hostile OR allied - this past cycle, and in previous cycles, insofar as it is known?

Whatever's in the encyclopedia just below "nothingburger", this was it. Even with a justifiably very low regard for Beltway institutions and personnel, elected and otherwise, I am stunned at the histrionic reaction of so many to this completely boring and unimportant topic (Russian "interference").

152 There was an explosives phase in 18th Airborne Corps Recondo School, which I attended (and graduated from) all these decades ago. For a week and a half, we played with C-4 and det cord and fuse (and even gasoline), learning how to blow bridges and set booby-traps and the like. It was awesome fun for a 19-year-old PFC like me.

Here's the thing: that sort of work is unforgiving. You can't get careless. You can't be stupid. You can't make a mistake. The good news? Serial bombers who kill innocent people are typically not known for their focus and powers of concentration. Look at what happened to several members of the Weathermen terrorist cell.

This guy is almost certain to make a mistake. It's even probable he'll eventually blow himself up sooner rather than later. Hopefully, no one else will be around when he does.

170 There was an old Sherlock Holmes Show where a package was delivered and Watson almost opened it. It was a bomb, of course.

They are robotic pragmatists, as befits their realpolitik mindset. Even in the post-Soviet era, they (usually wisely) view *most* American leaders more or less the same, with that template only altered by experience with a specific individual.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of about 15 different ways of doing it, some costing only a few dollars. If "some achmed clock boy" was actually a clock boy, he could do it. But I'm pretty sure he just repackaged a working alarm clock to intentionally make it look bomblike, so likely lacks the skill set. I do have some training in electronics, but the level of training needed to generally be able to do this is introductory course level stuff you could pretty much learn off of youtube. 251 ICE/DHS should - absolutely - engineer/stage some apprehensions of violent illegals being sheltered by "law enforcement" (sneer quotes now justified) that involve confrontation, tension, and humiliation of the locals. If they can.

I'm guessing ICE has the mindset to do this, and realize how it would contribute to the ultimate solution. But DOJ under Sessions pretty clearly still has no idea what to do. He's never dealt with or considered anything like this wave of official lawlessness, and completely lacks the instincts to deal with it effectively. DOJ's actions so far have broadcast weakness and naivete more than anything.

It's fine - if you can get it, or whether it simply becomes one more chapter in judicial lawlessness and constitutional unraveling - to sue CA over "sanctuary" laws. But it's not actually the important part. I would be surprised if Trump isn't in the loop on this mess. States acting in open defiance of Federal Law is a pretty serious matter, and is something that merits presidential attention. I'm guessing that the current plan is to gradually ramp up pressure until either California caves, or is forced to cross one of those lines from which there is no return. And at that point, we get a "President Jackson and South Carolina" response.

291 Without detective work to narrow the facts, there are an Nth degree of combinations of metal illness to precipitate this behavior. For someone who is so isolated from humanity other than the Internet and social media, that "th" power is expanded by at least an order of magnitude. Here is a bet. If/when they find the perp, he will be an older profile version of the various school shooters who would not believe that he could access a school, but figures that he can still kiil a lot of people who he resnts, even if he only knows the slightly or maybe even not at all. I believe it is likely a "he" and I believe that we will see a lot more of this - an unintended consequence of a nonstop feed of news/opinion. Consider this - a lot of the metal health/committed policies of the past were (rightfully) changed because (a) the shrinks did not know what they were talking about and (b) many, if not a majority if patients were committed because they either were harmlessly off the rails or were hated by their family. Well, the up side of the Internet and social media is that the people who truly need to be committed are far more visible/apparent and much further needing commitment than, say you crazy uncle who just happens to have 20 million dollars or the guy who sits in a coffee shop and greets everybody as thought he was the town's paid greeter.

Over the weekend my brakes started to grind. I knew I needed front pads and rotors. I setup an appointment with Pep Boys right down the street from me for 10:00 this morning and told them to please order the parts on my arrival, as that is all I was there for.

It took almost an hour for them to get the car in the shop. I asked on arrival if the parts were ordered. Answer, just about to, Sir. From 11:00 to Noon, they "inspected" the car for other work they could sell me, instead of just doing the pads and rotors. They then came to me with their laundry list they were trying to sell, and I told him to please just do the damn pads and rotors that I wanted done originally. The guy said okay I'll order the parts now they should be here in about an hour. Then, pizza came for the shop guys so no work happen for another hour.

Long and short of it, I didn't get out of there until 2:45 just to get pads and rotors replaced, we should have taken no more than 2 hours total. I will never never go back to those f****** again.

which is a felony, though if he pays his $25,000 bond, he will be
released back into the public, as the Denver Sheriff 's Office refuses to
cooperate with federal immigration officials.

Whoever it is could do this for quite a while before he's caught.

The FBI never tracked down the Unabomber it was Kaczynski's brother who TOLD them who it was after the manifesto was published.

Posted by: Methos at March 12, 2018 09:49 PM (XQvuQ)

Nah. I think that there are some definite fears in Deadpool 2 since it isn't the same director and he left over differences with Reynolds. So some fears that they're going to up the raunch factor without having a good story.

And then there was probably some 40 year old mom in the test audience.

374 no word on any connection between the victims. But if the bomber is randomly picking his targets he might not be a random bomber, but trying to cover murder of a very personal target.

The DC sniper, protege and all, was really trying to cover his tracks as he sought murderous revenge on his wife ( ex wife.) he was coming for her the whole time. Tylenol cyanide poisonings were at least in one string of murders, a seemingly random murder plan, but carried out to cover a murder for insurance money

376 Scotsman, you don't I will the street or the sidewalk. Unless you live deep in the woods or on an estate with a mile long drive way harassing people for parking could get you into trouble. I'll bet the real estate lady has told people about the creepy man next door to the house she's trying to sell and unless your neighbors don't mind letting you know that they have guests they probably have some choice words for you too. My cousin ended up calling the police because his neighbor was bothering people who came to his wife's baby shower. The neighbor flipped out over the strange cars in the neighborhood. It turned into a big mess and my cousin had to move.
