The Saga Continues:
Deep within the bowels of CNN, far underground, down rough concrete hallways beneath humming fluorescent lights a group struggles, dragging a howling spitting Ewok along. "What the devil is wrong with this Teddy Bear?" one asks. "I think it's a Monchichi," another replies. The Ewok stiffens in rage and then snaps and snarls fiercely. "Whatever it is, it's smelly." "And mean." "Alright, in here, buddy. I don't know what you were jub-jubbing all over the tv, but I bet it was offensive to one of the 77+ genders reported by our core viewing audience. For that you get a little dose of HR." With that the Ewok is shoved into a room and the door is bolted. The group retraces their steps, the Ewoks howls blending in with the cries of the Mad Wolf Blitzer and of the damned. Speaking of the damned - in a cell next to the Ewok Brad continues to recite in a monotonal voice "I am a man and I am unworthy of existing in a world of delicate fragility inhabited by beings of wondrous delight such as you." "AGAIN!" shrieks a fat woman, her jowls wobbling in seismic tremors of rage her purple and green hair half covering her eyes as the pointless tattoos cover her blubberous flesh. "AGAIN you masculine beast! You must get the grovel into your voice! I, Leather Pithairia, Supreme Ministerix of HR Command!" Meanwhile, far away, in a sun filled city of alabaster buildings two men emerge from a bush. "There, Francois, you see how I get close to the target without him knowing I am around. These techniques of surveillance are crucial when you become a special investigator like moi." "But Chief Inspector Mueller, was it necessary to crawl the entire length of the Mall?" "Certainly, you fool. How else would I be able to properly use my magnifying glass if I am not close to the ground?" "And why do you have French accent like the late Peter Sellers used to do?" "Quiet! The target approaches." Francois mutters to himself "I saw that a mile off." The pair duck down as an elephant walks down the mall. From the howdah on its back Trump gestures, making conflicting statements on various subjects as a crowd of legislators, Democrat and Republican writhe, clutching their heads in agony. "AHHHH! The conflicts!" one wails. "It is too much!" another whines. "Will he ever just say one thing and stick with it," whimpers a third. "I thought I could weasel-word, but with the Golden Scalp Weasel he can say all things to all people and have them angry and happy at once!" "DACA! Gun Control! Global Warming! For! Against! Up is down is sideways and Pythagorean Theorem! Let it stop!" The elephant walks on as the legislators fall. "That should take care of them until happy hour," Trump states, ceasing his flow of blather. "I love doing that to these guys, they never learn to just stop their ears and watch to see where I'm going. By the way - where are we going? I mean, the elephant is a nice touch, but it is slower than the limo." The Golden Scalp Weasel chitters. "Fort Marcy Park? Why am I meeting my head of spies out there?" More chittering from the Golden Scalp Weasel. "You got a secret message? Well if you can't trust secret messages from cloaked and masked agents, then who can you trust? Let's go." Update: Parkland shooter was using 10 round mags - not 30's.
And that isn't stopping the Fascists from using this as a reason to ban 30 round magazines...something that wasn't even used. The reasoning is that the murderer's gun jammed because of his frequent reloads, which wouldn't have happened if he had 30 round magazines because guns never jam except right after a reload. So because he didn't have them, lives were saved. Sigh. Posted by: WitchDoktor, AKA VA GOP Sucks at March 02, 2018 09:32 AM (tVWQB) 42

As a direct result, soldiers can no longer buy firearms from Dicks anymore. I love fantasy stuff as much as the next guy, but for some reason I have always avoided Robin Hood stuff and King Arthur stuff.
One of the semi-recent Robin Hood movies (I think the Russell Crowe one) apparently started out as a film about the Sherriff of Nottingham, casting him in a much more sympathetic (and interesting) light. But then, no, Holywood decided you can't have innovation or anything clever, and made it a bog-standard Robin Hood film. Robin Hood and the King Arthur legends are great because there's so many different versions and variations. Sometimes a new element sticks, and shows up in later versions, sometimes an old or forgotten aspect reappears. (Also why I like reading about urban legends and how they shift.) The false dichotomy between Art and Illustration was hyped by gallery owners who needed to create a market for their painters. The false dichotomy between Art and Illustration was hyped by gallery owners who needed to create a market for their painters. The plebes had access to great art via the books and magazines they read. So the galleries justified their high prices by convincing their customers the Art they pimped was so much purer and noble than the artwork that was accessible to the masses.

OK, power is back on for now.
LOVE this painting and anything by Wyeth. The depth of color in the sky and Arthur's red clothing, the sheen and shadow on the armor, the positions and stance of the men, it is so evocative of their mood and the story. Wyeth has the ability to show fierce expressions on his characters that is wonderful. Think of the pirates in his Treasure Island illustrations. The only one I have seen match that is Fratzetta. I wonder if he was inspired by the Wyeth figures. Thanks to CBD for such a great image to end the week. Posted by: JTB at March 02, 2018 10:17 AM (V+03K) 274

Economists of every political strip would probably agree on that statement. Free trade brings jobs to Americans in greater numbers than tariff protection. But I get that Trump has a political commitment to enact tariff protections. Globalists took control of our government apparently, and have confiscated a lot of power and wealth, as they buried us in debt.
That is probably linked to a nefarious underworld of weapon/drug/human trafficking, and the reason Hillary and criminals in DeepState are still above the law. Digging out will be tricky. "After Alan Greenspan ignored the NASDAQ bubble, it crashed and led to this incredible foray into negative real rates. I remember watching a youtube video where someone tests the mobility one has in a full suit of armor. I was surprised at how well someone could actually move.
This is one I like to share. You have to be in decent shape to do it for long, but these suits were pretty mobile and functional. https://youtu.be/qzTwBQniLSc Part of the problem is that most of the surviving suits were not combat armor, but display or ceremonial, or for jousting, which were significantly heavier and less mobile. For show rather than go. So in the past, people came to understand that armor was all like that, and miserable to move around in. There's a scene in Excalibur where two knights are fighting and eventually both become so tired they can barely lift their arms: that's what swinging a 5-10 pound sword in 50 pounds of armor will do to you after a while. But you can get on a horse without a crane and get back up off the ground without any problem. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 02, 2018 10:32 AM (39g3+) 349

Could PDT ask the Congress members petitioning for a special counsel to investigate all the malfeasance input on an independent sc and, then, appoint himself? not arbitrary, rather drawn from real world contingencies. Anyhoo, I asked what the qualitative distinction is and received no answer.
Posted by: kallisto at March 02, 2018 10:28 AM (bZ5DM) The primary distinction is one of intent. If the object is to arouse in the viewer the desire to buy a book or a magazine, then that cover illustration is an example of commercial art. Note I didn't say Wyeth's painting was commercial art. I said it looks like it. The highest goal of fine art--and that which separates it from commercial art--is elevation. El Greco's paintings of Christ and the Apostles are, for example, an attempt to create the means by which men may feel closer to God. It isn't confined to religious paintings, but that's the first example that comes to my mind. Art isn't what hangs on the wall or stands in the round. It's what goes on in the minds and hearts of those viewing/experiencing it. Posted by: troyriser at March 02, 2018 10:37 AM (K8f5g) 378
See, this is the issue: Tariffs protect specific industries, including shareholders and banks on Wall Street, at the expense of jobs and the general wealth of middle America. Economists of every political strip would probably agree on that statement. Free trade brings jobs to Americans in greater numbers than tariff protection.
But I get that Trump has a political commitment to enact tariff protections. It's a stupid move, economically, and it endangers the economy as a whole, but hopefully our trading partners get that retribution against us would hurt them too. The argument "they do it and worse" might have some force too. Posted by: Huck Follywood, desocked at March 02, 2018 10:24 AM (ylUqT) ----------------------------------------------- Tariffs are good to protect industries that are of national importance for defense and self reliance. It is one thing to get cheap textiles or plastic crap from another country, it is another to devastate critical industries that will be needed in war and economic freedom. Second Tariffs are good as a way to teach other countries to play fair with our goods. You do not get respect if you don't play hardball. Pure free traders thought for example it would make China more democratic and friendly. How has that worked out? Pure free traders also thought the same thing with Nazi Germany. How did that work out? You can make an argument that globalization and economic competition was one of the reasons WWI happened. Posted by: William Eaton at March 02, 2018 10:37 AM (MuTTO) 379

Don't care for Oprah, don't need her guidance on anything. However, she only owns 10% of Weight Watchers so others have some say when it comes to their business model. My guess is that she's more of a spokesperson for them. How that works I'm not sure since she never seems to lose weight. Not a great spokesperson.
They have always promoted a healthy lifestyle. But weight loss is still their main goal and I don't think that will change. I've used the program and am currently on it. Lost 46 pounds 30 years ago. I'm currently trying to lose 25. Weight Watchers wasn't at fault for my weight gain. They taught me what I needed to do. I didn't stick with the lessons they taught me. The story with statuary is similar-- a lot of ancient Greek statues (and others) were gaudily painted. I still have all the old books and points calculators and Mr. Jen and I use that as our weight loss method when we fall off the wagon and start packing on pounds. The early programs were great, they actually worked and were simple to follow. Proteins, low carb, limited fat, very limited alcohol, 8 glasses of water a day. Don't eat out much, if you do, ask for a take out box when you order and put half your dinner in it when it arrives to take home. Weigh and portion your food. It takes discipline, but if I can do it, when I love everything with flour in it, anyone can do it. Then, the marketers got a hold of WW and every year it is a different "program" with different gimmicks and frozen foods, and "free points", BS. They have destroyed the program, IMO. Tariffs are already in place, the only question is whether or not the United States should have very low tariffs on nations that have very high ones on us or not. They aren't an absolute evil, and raising tariffs doesn't necessarily cause economic damage or harm trade.
As I pointed out yesterday, during the period of the nation's most productive years and freest capitalist economic period, the US government largely paid for its activities through tariffs. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 02, 2018 10:47 AM (39g3+) 439

Lance Lost-a-lot
Except "Lance" isn't my real name, so it doesn't quite work. Anyway. WW changes their system every few years-- partly to keep up with the science, partly to fix loopholes people (being people) found, but also because they're a business. I was on PointsPlus ~5 years ago, and it worked for me. The meetings didn't help much, just the rules and self-discipline. Other people (not to generalize, but women more than men) are more affected by social pressure, and so the meetings help them stay on track. After the first few weeks or so-- once you have the tools and the theory and whatnot-- you can do it yourself. You're paying for the support after that, really. >>Haven't seen Jackstraw lately. He is usually quick to jump to Sessions' defense.
It has nothing to do with defending Sessions. It has to do with looking at the bigger picture. When Trump goes in to negotiate about guns and starts talking about things like taking guns without due process I hear an awful lot of people explaining that it is really 11th dimensional chess and you need to watch what Trump does not what he says. But he fires off a tweet about Sessions and of course it is meant to be taken literal and nobody should wonder why he hasn't either ordered Sessions to do something or fired him, both of which are available options and Trump sure as hell isn't shy about firing people. Read his tweet more carefully. He now has the media talking about FISA abuse and waiting on the IG report and if he hasn't been told that the IG has been investigating this for months already he's probably astute enough to figure it out. Sessions works for Trump. He was the first prominent figure to back Trump and Trump ran on and is implementing his immigration plan via Stephen Miller. If he wanted Sessions gone he would be unless you think this is one area Trump is totally being played. Posted by: JackStraw at March 02, 2018 10:51 AM (/tuJf) 457

No evidence exists to support this statement. In fact, national wealth is harmed by tariffs and our economic history proves this again and again. National wealth is what protects our country.
Posted by: Huck Follywood, desocked at March 02, 2018 10:44 AM (ylUqT) ---------------------------------- Our economic history proves the opposite. The U.S. government use to be funded by tariffs to protect our industries from British competition. The British then became free traders themselves and ended up relying on the United States for the basics in two World Wars. If you allow foreign competitors to destroy your critical industries at home you will lose wealth in the long run and be dependent on them for critical resources in times of crisis and war. Worse, many of those countries like China make this part of the strategy to win military dominance. The finial point is free trade has led to international organizations, companies, and so called "citizens of the world". These globalists have done a lot to erode our liberties at home, undermine our constitution, and to put it bluntly are loyal in the international community and not in the U.S. I would rather be a little poorer and free, then wealthier and a slave. Free Trade is not free if it means losing personal freedoms at home. Smoot hawley didnt cause the depression. It made it worse and made it last longer. Same as fdr.
--- It incorrectly receives blame for 'making the depression worse'. The truth of the matter is that international trade causes an economic distortion that is corrected when tariffs are reimposed and eventually the countries involved return to their natural state of war. That correction, like all economic corrections, tends to be painful for people who made investments on the presumption that it would somehow all work out forever. Simpler question... and one that can't be answered. If it better to make 100 billion in profits, but have 100 Billion trade deficit and thus export that wealth to another country? Or is it better to make 50 Billion, and keep that wealth in your own country, thus helping your own economy? I will note... that we have had large trade deficits since the 90s.... and Middle Class Wages have been pretty flat, since then... Businesses have been making money... GDP has grown... lots and lots of new very RICH people... But the American Worker? Has been left behind IMO. Posted by: Don Q. at March 02, 2018 11:05 AM (NgKpN) 525
Smoot-Hawley did not create the Great Depression. Neither did the stock market crash of 1929. The Great Depression was cause exclusively by FDR's economic policies. He took a normal economic setback and turned into the depression. But the liberals have been preaching the other for decades.

Cinderella Castle is the worldwide-recognized icon of the Disney empire. Physical representations of it stand at the center of two Disney Parks: Walt Disney World in Florida (state), and Tokyo Disneyland. Assuming it were an actual fortress, how would you take it? Sergeant Jon Davis, USMC, decided to take a crack at an operational plan. Below is the (slightly redacted) plan of attack: Phase 1: A ground must be chosen in which you can quickly secure a foothold into the Magic Kingdom. This position must be easily accessible for the invasion force, provide cover and concealment for the troops and give strategic advantage once taken while depriving the enemy of the same. Also, this morning, someone asked about how long it would take to build an integrated steel mill in the USA . It's not likely to happen, because there is too much capacity right now in foreign countries such as China.
The idea is to help protect and improve the 9 integrated mills that are existing here in the USA and the 102 mini mills scattered across the country. Mr. Jen works in a support industry to steel which is why I am very familiar with these numbers and facts. We are currently the world's largest importer of steel. Posted by: kallisto at March 02, 2018 11:01 AM (H8GoT) I didn't speak artspeak jibber-jabber. I made it as succinct as I could. The idea I was sharing came from my mentor, Ellie Siskind, a cranky little old Jewish lady who is a prominent, nationally recognized painter whose works hang in galleries. I suppose someone shared the idea with her. Ellie is something of a big deal. The term 'elevation' in the context of art is commonly known and used. No jibber-jabber there, either. It's true you might experience elevation while on a nature walk but we weren't talking about nature walks. We were talking about art, man-made objects. There were two brother knights, Carados and Turquine, who kept beating up on the Knights of the Round Table and imprisoning them by dozens. Lancelot killed Carados and freed his prisoners. Later he encountered Turquine and fought with him for hours. Turquine was willing to call it a draw and release his captives, provided his opponent were anyone but Lancelot, his brother's slayer. Lancelot thereupon identified himself (the moment pictured by Wyeth), and the fight continued till Turquine's death.
