A new Asian friend invited us to a Chinese New Year dinner she prepared herself.

I fancy myself a good cook of all sorts of ethnic dishes.

Well, I used to anyway.

I may not need to eat again for another week.

1 Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, February 25, 2018. On this day in 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a United States patent for the Colt revolver.

A perfectly good word that I can't use.

Another one is "faggot." A faggot is a bundle of sticks. I know thins because the dictionary I was issued in third grade said so -- had a picture of one and everything. Everyone else in my class had the same dictionary, so it became a popular word for a few months. "What? There's nothing wrong with that word. It's in the dictionary! It's a bundle of sticks."

To this day, whenever I see a TV show or a video about the origins of Judaism, I remember my third-grade dictionary. Invariably, I see Abraham, walking up the mountain carrying a bundle of sticks on his shoulder so he can get the sacrificial fire going, and Isaac carrying a lamb, thinking the animal is the sacrifice. Poor Isaac, had no idea, even if it turned out that he was right in the end. But I always think, "There goes Abraham, up the mountain with his faggot!"

I denounce myself.

The problem with the bill of rights is that originally it was intended for the federal government only. Only certain 'rights' were enforced on the States and they were specifically called out in the Constitution.

The SCOTUS came along and invented "incorporation" out of thin air and clouded up the matter severely. But only a select few liberal liked 'rights' were incorporated.

I'm having a dispute right now that is similar. One bill is for a test that I refused several times while hospitalized in 2016. After the Students, then Residents then attending came in day after day I finally gave in. Of course I was right and it was negative. Covered by insurance, the pathology group demanded cash payment. When I gave them my insurance info again and said get it from them, they said they only deal in cash and it was my debt. I refused to pay and they have been harassing me for two years. Yesterday I got another bill from the same hospitalization. This time from a debt collector. This is from the ER I first checked into. Covered under insurance, they did not or would not submit the bill even though they had the insurance info. Threatening to sue me.
Both of these groups are refusing to bill the insurance company because the reimbursement will be less than what they think they can get from me directly. If they sue me I will counter sue.
Assholes. All of them.

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Matthew 22:37-39 ESV

The free audio feature on Bible Gateway is a treasure. I've half-way memorized sort of a lot of the Gospel of Matthew, just by listening to it being read in the background.

Now I have a nasty cough and it's pouring rain which makes the drive down I-75 fun. Want to go home.

266 Ummmmm....where did you get a Union Jack from?

Do you have flags from ALL of the countries ?

Do you have a good pile and a bad pile ?

*glances around nervously*

Why, no. Why would you ask that?

It all started when I stopped by the metal recyclers to drop off some metal scraps. There, I spied a 25' aluminum antenna mast removed from a cell tower.

"Ha!", sez I, "that would make a fine flagpole". The rest is history. It's topped, btw, with a salvaged brass toilet bowl float. I'm the envy of my neighbors.

Ah...where was I? Oh yeah, the flags. I have something of a collection. My pride is my dad's 48 star, that I put up on his birthday, which is June 14th, Flag Day.

It's a terrible thing. My family dealt with my grandmother's dementia for many years, and you're right--it's heartbreaking.

I can say this: Now that she's gone, I don't regret anything I ever tried to do to help her. I suspect you'll feel the same.

284 My husband actually criticized me yesterday for not "having a good time" being here. I'm walking around with a smile on my face, working my butt off for The Queen and her sister, and it's not enough.

He has forgotten that I came up here after his dad's surgery and took care of both of his parents when he and his siblings were too busy.

I'm too tired to even argue with him. But it hurts me deeply.

Also, I have a flag flown by the Confederate Cherokees called the Cherokee Rifles. Imagine the Stars and Bars with 5 red stars inside the white star ring to represent the 5 Civilized tribes.

304 Don't know what state you're in - if you're in Texas, they're going to find out that it's almost impossible to collect on an unsecured debt, even if one wins the lawsuit. Basically your car, your house, your bank accounts, and your first 70K of possessions (roughly) are all exempt from collection efforts. Which is why no one bothers suing unsecured debtors in Texas, not worth the effort.

other states, ymmv
Posted by: Tom Servo

Thanks. Yes, native Texan living in non-descript hidden bunker near West Central Texas. I think that is how most Texans came here originally--to escape debt in the early 1800s. That is also the reason I have told both debt holders to fuck off; the first for almost two years and the second starting Monday, because if they want to try and sue me for bills that they refused to get reimbursed for, well, go ahead. I'm 4 years out of a complete financial meltdown caused by family and a former employer and don't really care anymore anyway. I own my house and keep my money in a safe with little in the bank and a very anonymous hidden account or three elsewhere. The stupidest thing is that the first bill that refused and still refuses to get paid in any way but cash directly from me has tacked on "interest and penalties" every month for about 18 months. The bill was originally about $1300 and is now roughly $12,000 with their "penalties" (probably illegal). Yes, in 18 months they have hiked the bill that much. They could have gotten paid long ago but they were assholes.
It is now impossible for me to take them seriously even if they DID sue me.

305 Posted by: Daybrother at February 25, 2018 07:21 AM (QsL9e)

Some states will bar a "provider" [lord how I detest the newspeak of medical insurance] from collecting if they have failed to submit a claim to an insurer in a timely manner.

This failure to submit a bill is actually a revenue strategy. BOn secours ERs are notorious for "losing" insurance information they have collected. They then use a third party to maximize billing; it can get ugly.

---

Jane, from an unrelated middle aged husband of 20+ years who still hasn't figured out a lot of stuff:

Often we husbands just see things as jobs. It's what has to be done, so it is expected to be done. It's not meant to be hurtful or seem unappreciative. If there is oil to be changed then it's changed. If there is laundry to be done then it's done. It might be that it's not viewed as anything extraordinary even though it is in the strict "extra" and "ordinary" sense. To him it might be what family does and what friends do, and that's that.

A way to draw attention to it might be to suggest that it's been a big couple of weeks and maybe you could both have a nice dinner out as a way to unwind and relax. Take a movie home and enjoy a bottle of something you both like.

As a guy, he probably doesn't have any idea that he's coming across that way, so drawing attention to it in a way that doesn't involve both of you could be hurtful to him.

Thanks to all of y'all from all of us, btw.
