I went to the movies yesterday. First time in a long time. We saw "Game Night". I has seen the previews in December and it looked funny, but I've been stung before. I was expecting a hour and a half movie that the first 60 minutes would be good, then they throw shit at the wall for the next 30. Pretty damn funny and entertaining through out though. A couple goofy things, but no worse then any other movie. If nothing else, catch it as a rental.

While at the movies I also saw what is coming up in the next months. What a load of crap coming out. My factory used to be down the street from a famous name you'd recognize in convenience foods. In the morning my plant would receive a tractor trailer load of raw materials. First stop was me, then the famous name up the street. You know what was on the truck to be delivered to them? About 100 different 55 gallon drums of chemicals. I could never buy their products after seeing that.
Pick up a box of a famous name convenience food and look at the label. My G-d it's endless list of crap.

We are getting more tropical weather here this morning. Unseasonably warm and high humidity. Here I have been running a humidifier and damp towels trying to get humidity in the house up and now with open windows it is up to 60%. But kittehs are loving those open windows.

It's still dark here in the Bluegrass, but I can tell we're going to have some flooding issues. The area is pot marked with sinkholes and they're all full of water. I see the reflections of lights in spots where the water is sitting. That only happens when the sink holes are overflowing. I've been told the sink holes are all "interconnected" and the water rises and falls with the Ohio River.

So they gave Jesus Cruz a plea deal before the bodies were even cold (no trial or discovery or discussion of failures), the Sheriff knew there were multiple responders who did nothing and covered it up for a week, and now I hear they're immediately destroying the school where the shooting took place?
I've known officers in Podunk, WV. Minor, basic investigations into violent crimes by one person against one person can take months. There's no way they done jack on this shooting, and I'd wager it's like the plea deal. Destroy/suppress this evidence and let's never talk of this again.

Americans obsess about food too much. What vegetable or fruit is the MOST healthy of them all, what ingredient will cure your ills, etc. For example, people read about the Mediterranean diet and decide they will drink more wine and eat olive oil, and then they will be healthy. They ignore eating three times as many vegetables and living in a calmer, happier environment as a factor.
The point is there is no simple fix, no magic ingredient. Eat a variety of healthy foods, enjoy them with others you care about, and don't obsess about it. And yes exercise, but do it with activities you enjoy. JMO .

Just read an article at American Thinker recommending 2 movies, after reading the article I thought, why see them? Now after reading comments here my goal to start seeing movies at the theater this year is gone.
On the food comments. Exercise and less food. Cut down on the sugar, a lot. Hubby an I are doing Weight Watchers. He lost 7 pounds in 10 days and I lost 3. The problem is keeping it off. I lost 46lbs using WW late 80's. Kept most of it off until the last 2 years. Getting older doesn't help since a lot of people become sedentary as they age, especially after retirement.

I live in the suburbs with plenty of good grocery stores. But I realize most in the city have only the corner store which sells mostly beer (20 oz) and chips. And they of course except EBT cards as the number one payment. Corner stores in cities use to be just smaller grocery stores selling more food items.

On the food comments. Exercise and less food. Cut down on the sugar, a lot. Hubby an I are doing Weight Watchers. He lost 7 pounds in 10 days and I lost 3. The problem is keeping it off. I lost 46lbs using WW late 80's. Kept most of it off until the last 2 years. Getting older doesn't help since a lot of people become sedentary as they age, especially after retirement.

I don't think they were cowards. I think they (the left) do this on purpose. They want chaos. Bottom up, inside out, upside down, top down. They want the civil society destroyed so they can usher in totalitarianism. They desire chaos because it preceeds the revolution.

I've lost 57 lbs since July. The formula that works is zero added sugar, limiting other sugars to 15g, gross carbs under 50, net carbs under 20, a lot of healthy fat, no grains, no starches. Only water, no carbonation. No alcohol. A shit ton of non-starchy vegetables. Fruit only cucumbers, peppers, kiwi, blackberries and raspberries, avocado. Fructose is almost as bad as sucrose. Eat enough calories, but not in carbs. No powders, shakes, or processed food. Excess protein turns into glucose too, but most people don't get enough. First week is hell, then easy sailing. Weight falls off.

Even if you're too scared to save those kids, those Broward county officers apparently didn't even secure the perimeter. Jesus walked over to a McDonalds for a quick bite after his murder spree. They found him something like two hours later, and I'm sure it was because of something stupid.

WW isn't the best program. There is no "free" food. It doesn't teach you how to eat for real. Once you quit the weight comes back on. Get the Livestrong app/my plate and read the community comments. Most are silly, but a lot are not and from people who have lost huge amounts of weight and reveresed and eliminated Type II diabetes.

I'm not an attorney and don't know how that stuff works, but I'm betting a plea deal goes through, too. He's nuts and I doubt he'd get the death penalty for being nuts with a clear history of being nuts.

Worse still, we already know more about Jesus Cruz than we do about the Vegas shooter.

You can speed your metabolism back up with two things. Weights and intermittent fasting. That's when you eat only in a window each day. I fast 16 including the night and eat only during the other 8 hours. Never fall for the many meals a day bs, less is better. And you do not need breakfast. IF cranks the metabolism and reduces blood sugar spikes which reduce insulin response which is the driver of fat storage.

Holidays are the diet killer. It starts in mid November and goes past New Years day.Too many events to go to that people insist you come to, eat, drink and then you go home and sleep.
I've lost 12 pounds the last 2 weeks doing paleo MOL. I know it will slow down, but I'm eating well and feeling good.

Broward State Attorney Mike Satz said Saturday that now is not the time
to discuss whether his office would seek the death penalty or make a
plea deal for Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old accused of shooting and
killing 17 people at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Wednesday.
So no plea deal in the works.

We were talking to the overeducated Asian friend last night about the recent debacle by the Broward County Sheriff's Department.
This individual fears and hates guns, but upon hearing that Liberals are defending the cowardice of the Deputies with the justification that the Supreme Court has determined that Police have no duty to protect your ass, her question immediately was, 'Well, if they aren't going to protect me, then I guess my protection really is my responsibility'.

MY next door neighbor's Bradford Pear is in full bloom. The ones across the street would be in bloom now if the asshole had not cut them all down. Mine being a lot smaller are not budding yet.

Dagny. Glad your diet is working so well.
WW may not be the best but it does give me a basis for cutting back portions and dialing back the sugar intake. It works for me and it's taking off the weight. My main problem is bread. I love bread, lots and lots of bread. WW doesn't leave any room in the diet for it.
The free foods on WW are mostly eggs, boneless/skinless chicken breast (which I steam) and lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. The chicken is bland but I incorporate it into recipes with lots of spices. It's a point system. The zero point foods added since the late 80's really aren't zero since the daily points were reduced to account for them.
I guess what I'm saying is use what works for you personally. This works for me and my spouse.

They've added some new variations to these Olympics that I like. The alpine 'Team Event' was great competition. Head-to-head knockout competitions in parallel slalom (which is not at all the same as slalom). And the mass-start in long-track was very good. The peloton just turns it on at the end and devours whoever went out early to get sprint points.

That is the key. Any of the diets out there do not allow for unlimited eating. Some of the variations help to cut out the cravings, usually sugar, but the calories are still very important.

111 I've lost 57 lbs since July. The formula that works is zero added sugar, limiting other sugars to 15g, gross carbs under 50, net carbs under 20, a lot of healthy fat, no grains, no starches. Only water, no carbonation. No alcohol. A shit ton of non-starchy vegetables. Fruit only cucumbers, peppers, kiwi, blackberries and raspberries, avocado. Fructose is almost as bad as sucrose. Eat enough calories, but not in carbs. No powders, shakes, or processed food. Excess protein turns into glucose too, but most people don't get enough. First week is hell, then easy sailing. Weight falls off.

Probably because the pines and spruces are slower growing and don't bloom. The snow in the spring is much heavier though and it tears them up while the pines and spruce just shrug it off.

182- this is not an either or situation, and it doesn't only apply to schools, but all armed citizenry in a defensive situation. My argument is for training, planning as best you can to reduce friendly fire situations. The military has always done this, it's kind of a bid deal with them.

Follow the old practice of no meat at all during Lent and it's impossible to work out. Not a happy feeling either way.

Hadrian - I don't come from a faith tradition that observed Lent. I have started since marrying Rev. I don't subtract something. I look for ways to bless someone each day. For instance the other day I took myself out for breakfast. The bill was about 5 dollars, and I gave the waitress a 4x that tip. Not to puff myself up - just giving an example. Not eating certain foods seems odd to me, but like i said, I don't come from that background. It may be very meaningful to others who have. No disparagement intended.

One of the secrets that we passed to Little VIA was upon arrival at his first Command, to find and become involved with the local Fil-Am Association.
1. As NL knows, Filipinos are some of the warmest and most gracious people out there
2. The activities tend to be very family oriented. Not a bad thing for a young Sailor to be around, compared to some of the other diversions available to a single Sailor
3. The food is plentiful, and delicious.
4. You will make life-long friends.

Israel is well known for appointing political cronies as deputies, particularly in the cushy school resource officer gig (which apparently comes with free housing, among other goodies).
My guess: none of these "men" were even qualified LEOs, much less NRA members.

Our church has a medical team in Guatemala right now that, along with other churches, is serving over 2,000 people with medical/dental needs in remote villages. One of the volunteers said it's stunning to see 2,000 people line up peacefully and wait patiently for hours or days to be seen for needed treatments. Our team consists of everything from our pastor, to a married couple who buy and prepare food for our team, an interpreter, and medical pros. They've been doing this for years.
My husband says that when/if he ever sells his business and retires, he'd love to go as an interpreter. I'd love to volunteer with meals.
They do have to have security. It's a dicey area.

That is a lovely approach to Lent. Growing up Catholic, we were supposed to sacrifice something. (For kids it was often candy or something like that.) The idea of a positive deed each day of Lent is great.

I actually think the teacher made a valid point. Good guys with guns
have been shot before in these situations. Not a deal breaker if people
actually want to make things better (not going to say "solve the
problem"). Most of the anti-points have been bad, at least that one is a
think to consider. BTW, remember when the left said no pilots should be
armed after 9/11? There answer is always the same even if the question
changes.
The answer to the question is the good guys hold their carry IDs ( note - I said IDs not 'permits') over their heads the same way undercover police officers identify themselves, and they lay down their guns when told to do so. Also the students will identify their teachers to the cops. Any other stupid questions?

I'm in his diocese and can vouch for that. Doesn't pull punches on gay marriage and other issues either... what's even more amazing is that 20-25 years ago this was one of the worst dioceses in the country, run by a bishop who was allegedly soliciting male prostitutes and engaging in financial funny business as well (that bishop is now deceased).

3. If you carry you need concealed carry insurance.
I have USCCA insurance. It covers not only - self defense/defense of others - use of weapons, it also covers you if you have to kick somebodies ass physically in the same situations. It covers bail and criminal defense. It also covers civil suits for your actions and compensates you for the time you have to spend in civil court. A million in coverage is $30 per month. Also you get the really excellent Concealed Carry magazine as part of the deal.
