Is your humble abode safe? I mean really safe? Everyday items that can kill the hell out of you.

Lutherans hardest hit as Jello is on the list.

More Valu-Rite research indicates that alcohol plays a much bigger role in causing dementia.

Narrowing in on the over 1 million patients newly diagnosed with dementia during that time, the researchers found that heavy alcohol use was a substantial risk factor for every common type of dementia, particularly early-onset cases caught before the age of 65. More than half of the 57,000 patients diagnosed with early-onset dementia—57 percent—showed signs of alcohol-related brain damage or were diagnosed with an alcohol use disorder at the same time.

All told, they estimated that people with diagnosed alcohol problems were more than three times likely to develop any kind of dementia earlier, and over twice as likely to develop forms of dementia not typically associated with alcohol, such as Alzheimer’s.

The mysterious disappearance of Michael Rockefeller.

Whether he drowned or was butchered by cannibals he didn't go out with a smile on his face like his old man.

Faith and veganism throw in some meat and a microwave and things don't work out well.

A YouTube star who claimed online that her vegan lifestyle cured her cancer, has died of cancer.

YouTube vlogger Mari Lopez, who touted her beliefs that raw veganism, juicing and faith in God cured her stage four breast cancer, succumbed to her illness in December after it spread to her liver, blood, and lungs.

Lopez, one half of the vlogging duo Mari & Liz, gained notoriety after she and her niece Liz Johnson claimed that faith in God and a vegan lifestyle was curing her cancer.

Our world is too technologically advanced. How you ask? Smart dildo. And we aren't talking Charlie Brown's Dildo either.

You have never experienced this level of comfort before: adult webcam platform CamSoda has engineered a hi-tech dildo that will not only help you achieve robust orgasms, but will also hit up Domino’s and order a pizza for you after you’ve cum.

Unlike your dumb dildo, the so-called RubGrub has been equipped with an internet-connected button, which users can press to place a delivery for a pizza after a heated rubbing session.

When you think of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau what comes to mind? For your humble and unopinionated Cob Douches gotta douche.

Bhaavna Arora, a bestselling Indian author, also chimed in, accusing Trudeau of wearing 'fancy dress' and saying she found it 'fake and annoying'.

Shekhar Gupta, founder of Indian newspaper ThePrint also mocked the Canadian Prime Minister, accusing him of 'running a week-long “election campaign” in India in fancy dress.'

Are you Morons a little low on cash? The ONT's recommendation? Stop at an art shop, pick up some canvas and shop at a grocery store and buy some condiments.

However, another piece of “art,” appropriately titled Untitled, was bought for $46,437,500. As you can see, it resembles what would probably happen if a 2-year-old toddler was left on its own with a bottle of ketchup.

Is she a successful entrepreneur? No. Is she a Genius Award Winner? Yes.

Neatherlin, 32, was arrested March 15 after police found seven children younger than 5 drugged and unattended at her Little Giggles Daycare in Bend while she was at a tanning salon.

I foresee a future without tanning for about 25 years.

how big the ship, the Sea can be bigger at times.

I hope he did not get a follow-on command, or when he left there was no band.

When in Naples we were standing around outside one of the local bars, and an older Italian woman walked by and flashed her panties at us. One of the guys screamed "I'm blind!"

Different CO we had got a sailor killed by ordering him to work on a piece of equipment without proper safety interlocks. Elevator hatch cover ended up slamming down on the guy when he was half inside the hatch, and pretty much sliced him in two.

Same CO also has his wife come on board while in port. She walked up the gangway while he was waiting on the quarterdeck. In her hands she had a bouquet of flowers he had sent her. She threw them in his face, turned around, and walked back down the gangplank.

90 What about separation of Church and state.

Oh, this homily was a doozy. Pastor strongly implied that the separation of Church and state wasn't a thing. Jesus needs to be in the voting booth with us, he told us. "we are Catholics first" he told us. I swear I am not making any of this up.

One reason I am posting this here is in the hope there's another highway-36 church which has interpreted this bishop's email in a less awful fashion, or has rejected it entirely.

92 I bought my new toy today. Went into Lowe's completely and utterly clueless as to what to buy. Some elderly gentleman working there asked me if I needed help. I pulled out my bullet casing and said yeah.. I need to drill a hole in the bottom of this. Can you tell me what tool I need that doesn't cost a fortune? He showed me what he said would work, then asked who I was planning on killing. I lol'd but had no idea why he asked me that. I just said.. I make jewelry I'm not planning on killing anyone.

It's the Open World Championship Sled Dog Race, part of Fur Rendezvous. 21 teams this year, and at 25 miles a day for three days, it's a sprint race. Those dogs just fly, with big grins on their faces. If you'd like to see photos, try:

All childcare facilities in Oregon, including a woman taking care of a couple of kids in her house, are licensed by the Child Care Division, now part of the Dept of Education.

From people I know who have worked there, it is one of the most disorganized non-functional state agencies outside of the Governor's Taskforce on Drought.

IF you smoke tobacco or have a firearm you are immediately barred from getting a license by the way. Convictions for drugs and domestic violence however are not immediate bars to licensing.

Did anyone talk about the Grumman satellite that was supposedly lost?
Posted by: NaCly Dog at February 24, 2018 10:07 PM (hyuyC)

It was a super secret payload, so nobody is allowed to talk about it.

SpaceX said that the Falcon 9 rocket performed properly, and that was all they could say. If the rocket had failed, they would have said so. It would not make sense for them to lie about a thing like that, because it would destroy their credibility among their potential customers, and ensure that they would never get another US Government launch.

The Zuma payload was built by Northrup Grumman, and if it failed after separation, that's on them.

I still suspect that the "failure" story is disinformation. I also think it's possible that the payload wasn't an actual satellite, but an experiment of some sort that wasn't intended to go into permanent orbit.

294 More Pantherian thoughts:

For a movie which has a promotional campaign bragging about how authentically African it is, they somehow had to use an Egyptian name (Bast) for the panther goddess and the Hindi name (Hanuman) for the ape god. Those were mostly-forgiveable errors back in 1966 when two guys in New York were creating the character on a deadline, but thirty seconds with Google would provide appropriately African names. Weird.

Also, I had to smile at one shot which showed American ghetto-style graffiti "tagging" in the Utopian African kingdom of Wakanda. I suspect the set dressers were going for some Black Authenticity, but it also comes off as a pretty hilarious bit of negative stereotyping. I mean, seriously: if you're gonna have that, why not also have King Tchalla and his court celebrate their victory with a fried chicken dinner?

========

That quote is kind of meaningless. All it says is that a large percentage of people with dementia had a history of alcohol abuse. It doesn't demonstrate any causal relationship between alcoholism and dementia. It's a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. I'm sure a lot of people with dementia are also right-handed.

It also doesn't take into account any percentages beforehand. If most people consume alcohol of course most people with dementia will be likely to have had a history of alcohol use. But it is absurd to infer any sort of causal connection.

For instance: let's say there are 100 terror attacks. If 51 are committed by non-Muslims out of a pool of 100 million non-Muslims and 49 are committed by Muslims out of a pool of 5 million Muslims, does that mean that being a non-Muslim means you are more likely to commit a terrorist attack?

No, the quote is dishonest because it does not adjust for the prior percentage of the sample before reaching the conclusion.

Fact: adults produce stem cells. Soon they'll figure out a way to replace brain and liver cells using your own stem cells so that you won't have to worry about destroying them through your lifestyle choices. So if your life seems to pressure you to make choices that destroy those cells in the short term, you can rationally go ahead and do so, knowing that there will probably be a remedy very soon that will solve the problem in the long term.

No, men wear them too although not daily. I just saw an episode of the old British TV series, The Jewel in the Crown, and after going to a Hindu temple for prayers, both the half-Indian man and the white Englishwoman have a red dot applied to their foreheads by the Hindu priest.

376 booknlass, I saw "How The West Was Won" in its first theater run. My mom took me, and my sister. I think she wanted us to see that palatial theater, because it was torn down for a parking lot not too much later. There was an intermission, and a huge theater pipe organ came up out of
the floor in front of the stage for a short concert by an organist who
was a local celebrity.

That film was made in Cinerama, and only played select theaters. It was just huge. You know what the impact of Imax is; imagine almost the same thing, with really good sound, too, almost 60 years ago, when few people had heard a stereo. The audience applauded during the film. Hell, they cheered.

If you can find one of the websites dedicated to the history of Cinerama, it makes an interesting read. Developed by, among others, the WWI fighter pilot who made King Kong. Merion Cooper. Quite an American.

As I had retired from my career, I sewed in onto my service jacket, over the agency logo. Great jacket, still have it. And when people ask me if it doesn't spook people to see an NRA patch, I tell them that it's less scary than the embroidery it's covering.

Posted by: qdpsteve at February 25, 2018 12:07 AM (eMKNe)

If you aren't used to stomping a clutch pedal that's suddenly not there, it could be fun to use. From what I understand (at least in the Jetta I rented), you slide the selector over to the left from 'D' and it's in a parallel track, push up to upshift and back to downshift. Then slide the selector back to the right when you're bored with that and then you're back to normal auto mode.

But there's no reason to use it unless you want to make vroom-vroom noises on a twisty road or something, and you'll probably get slightly better mileage if you just leave it in 'D' and let the transaxle figure it out.

The column is awkward for her but she depresses the pedal *note: the pedal* and pulls it down into low. HoKay, boys that's when I stiffen my legs on the floorboard and rest my hands on the dash.

She expected a standard and the clutch work when she attempted second gear gave the salesman quite a lurch.

Had a 2009 Cobalt SS Turbo. It was putting about 280 HP on the ground.

It had a cool feature called "No lift shift." Basically, keep the pedal mashed to the floor while shifting. No need to left off the gas as it wouldn't allow the engine to over-rev while shifting.

Ran that thing up to about 130 once. Might as well have been doing 75 for all the car noticed. Didn't get squirrelly or anything.

However, when you wind up changing tires about every 15K miles and a set of tires runs $1K, it takes the luster off.

Traded it for a truck.

A lot of the cars from the 50's and 60's that are considered classics are what I cut my teeth on as a mechanic.

For 40 odd years I was that friendly guy who fixed your car right the FIRST time.

I've seen the advent of radial tires, electronic ignition, fuel injection and complete computer control of engine and body functions.

And fixed it all.

It seems like there's also much less difference between makes and models because of that. When everything comes standard with the features that made up the $6000 premium trim line from 2006, there isn't much to distinguish between them. My parents rent a mid-size car when they visit and when pretty much everything in the fleet has a back-up camera and lane assist and satellite radio with Bluetooth and blind-spot monitors, you really can't even tell what kind of car you're in, especially when you're duct-taped in the trunk and you've lost a lot of blood.

Back in high school (ca. 1994), I could identify cars just from the head or taillights. Now I have to look for the badge when it's sitting next to me at a stop light during the day.

wikileaks long ago showed Podesta was working with about half the Catholic church on their subversive plans ... and this new pope seems to be one of "them". I think all church goers of any faith should make sure where their donations go, and keep the decisions local, starting right in the home. If they want to build wells in Africa, arrange that with the local church, and have direct contact.

Sorta the decentralized federalism plan applied to churches ... which seems to be how it was in the first century.

618 603 Jeezus what the hell is that?
Actual 1/4 mile time for the 2016 SS camaro is 12.3 seconds... better than any 60s car ever made.

619 ooops 1969 ZL-1 was faster in the 1/4 mile than the 2016 camaro ss but that's the only one.
Both 2017 and 2018 ZL-1's were faster than the 69, though

622 Server move won't happen tonight. I started the process, but it's taking too long; I'll have to come up with another approach.

Tomorrow is out (I'll be in meetings all day) so it will be Monday night/Tuesday morning. I'll start earlier and then manually update the database and rebuild the blog page afterwards.

I do have a complete backup just in case lightning strikes again and takes out the other drive in the server.
