The Morning Report 2/21/18

guilty.jpg

Good morning kids. Bit of a format tweak to make it a bit easier to peruse the links. In any case we start off with the continuing politicization of last week's Florida school shooting. Despite the President's coming out and announcing support on a ban of "bump stocks" and other regulatory fixes (or concessions, depending upon your perspective) the debate should be about the mental health of the perpetrator, and not on the instrument employed in the act. Last week, the President seemed to be driving the messaging on this, considering the canned outrage about this from the usual quarters.

And as we peel away the onion, going beyond the mental health of the shooter the crux of the issue is what caused his mental state to begin with? Well, a favorite rhetorical trick that the Left employs is to always blame society at large for failing to prevent this and/or causing the problem in the first place. You know, for once the Left is absolutely 100% correct. Society did cause this; that is, the society created by the Left starting in the early 1960s. More accurately, the rot they foisted on us by destroying the family, ethics, Judeo-Christian morality, sexual norms, our culture and history, ethnic balkanization, the war on manhood, and on and on and on in their bid to take over the ruins for their own end. I cannot tell you what the particular set of circumstances was that drove this individual to do what he did, but if the backgrounds of all the shooters were compared, it's a fair bet that the common denominators would point universally to what I outlined above.

But sadly, that will never happen because the terrible secret of Leftist societal cancer can never be revealed. But they and their useful idiots, which sadly now include the immature and moldable minds of traumatized youth, are to be used to confiscate the only means with which we as a people can defend ourselves from the tyranny they so desperately want to impose on us. Circling back, I had hoped the President would continue to flip the narrative on this issue, considering how the FBI had been so obsessed with bringing him down rather than preventing this tragedy, which as we have learned they could and should have. Yes, it's not the argument I'm making but it does flip the narrative and gives an opening.

And speaking of the FBI, the entire collusion narrative has all but died but that will not deter Mueller from plodding along, since this shit-show is only to provide the Democrats cover and fake talking points through the midterms and beyond. As I have stated and as is obvious, they are not going to shut any of this down. Their mission is to destroy Trump, reverse the gains made over the past year, and make sure the march to destroy the last vestiges of America as founded starts up again unimpeded - forever. We not only dodged a bullet in 2016 but it was a major shock to the system. 2018 is going to be for all the marbles.

Speaking of the midterms, despite all the gloom and doom from the pollsters and cuck-servatives, the Dems are in disarray both financially and policy-wise, especially now that the Tax Cuts are boosting the economy. Palsi Pelosi almost choked on her dentures when a heckler threw her wealth in her face. Also, this Conor Lamb joker continues to step on his wee-wee by mimicking Palsi's "crumbs" attack on the Tax Plan. Meanwhile, the GOP, despite its best efforts to lose raked in some record lucre this past January.

A few interesting links about policy stuff; Obamacare continues to suffer the death of a thousand cuts, PDT's energy policy is coming up aces, thoughts on infrastructure funding and perhaps the implosion of the hated and destructive CFPB. Lastly, Nikki Haley continues to wield a blowtorch at the UN, a funny video on Israeli brutality and a palate cleanser about Jewish humor suggested to me from a commenter whose name I have forgotten.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

Florida Massacre, 2nd Amendment

Hey, let's pass some tax laws to force our residents to pay for building nice new shelters for homeless people. And let's also pass some new welfare laws to give more "free" money to homeless people. And let's also pass some laws to give free needles to people. And let's also pass some new laws that make it legal to do things like piss and defecate on public streets. And let's also pass some laws to make porn freely available in our public libraries.

These measures will surely keep our homeless population in check! It's genius! Problem solved!"

50 Conservatives need to find the right message and stick with it, educate the populace, and not get distracted by all of the dreck the left vomits out daily. First principle: each human being is free to pursue what they believe to be true, be that religion, science or macrame. Your pursuit of truth cannot impose anything on anyone else. Second principle: To pursue that truth, freedom of speech, assembly, the freedom to access information (no heckler's veto), freedom of the press (and every citizen is the press, i.e. can write or report whatever they choose) are guaranteed. Third principle: each person has the right of personal property, to own and dispose of as they see fit. This includes the fruits of their labor and the content of their ideas. Fourth principle: it the duty of the government and the right of the individual to protect those rights. This is what the Constitution and Bill of Rights guarantee. You don't get anything extra cause of your race, religion, lack of religion, sexual orientation, etc., nor do you get anything less. Let's agree on the basics and then logically take apart every leftist, progressive, PC, democrat idea all the way back to Karl Marx.

61 The world appears to be trying to catch up to jwest...

A proposal to sell federal assets to help pay for infrastructure is making its way to the table. Of course, the congresspeople drafting it are getting it wrong because they're not reading my comments.

They want to sell federal assets that the government is constitutionally not allowed to own in the first place to the highest bidder. What this will do is fuck the citizens out of the vast majority of the value and benefit a tiny minority who happen to have the capital when the items come up for bid.

As I outlined in my plan, there should be a new semi-autonomous agency created that has the power to immediately compensate the government for a percentage of the assets, but take its time over a hundred year span to actually sell the assets.

With conservative valuation, the government "owns" approximately 72 trillion in land, minerals, hard assets, user rights and other things that have value. If they are auctioned off immediately, the most valuable will go first at less than fire sale prices.

We have the ability to pay off all debt and spend trillions on infrastructure if we do this right.

We have a kid who wasnt legally [able] to buy a beer at a bar, but he can go buy an AR-15? It doesnt make sense. Im not saying it should be legal for him to go buy beer. But how is it possible that we can have minors go buy a gun? I dont have the answer to it. But to the families in Parkland, down in Broward County, its sad and Im sorry and its just a tragedy and I hope we dont continue to see this because its too many in the last 10 years with guns. Lebron James

Yes, there is a problem with someone above the age not being able to buy beer. He can be drafted or can serve in the military as a volunteer but can't buy a beer. And why is that? Because MADD has morphed from being against drunk driving to being a pressure group to bring back the disaster known as prohibition. The original MADD leadership has all left in disgust. They have pressured the worthless congress to raise the drinking age nationwide back to 21 when they have no authority to set it at all and they have pressured congress to lower the BAC to 0.08 from 0.10 also without authority and no known evidence that it will change anything except the ability to write DUI tickets.

107 Perhaps a bit contrarian, but I think the focus on mental health is misguided.

Firstly, while saying, "Let's keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill," might sound good at first blush, there really isn't much corellation between mentall illness and violence. People think "schizophrenia", but the vast majority of mental illness encompasses things like depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD, phobias, sexual disorders, eating disorders, etc. I'm sure we all agree that someone shouldn't forfeit his Second Amendment rights because he's afraid of heights. One might suggest a depressed individual shouldn't have a gun to reduce suicide risks, but many people I know take mild anti-depressants who are completely competent to handle a firearm safely.

Secondly, where is this national database of the mentally ill going to come from? I have no problem denying firearms to people adjudicated mentally ill by courts probably account for a very tiny fraction, and those people are likely in institutions anyway. Will doctors have unilateral authority to put people on this list? That will definitely discourage people from seeking treatment, which is the last thing we want.

Anyway, it's definitely a can of worms I'd rather not open.

Probably already mentioned here, but last week it also came to light that the FBI didn't feel the need to hold on to the Minnesota jihadi babe who set 8 fires in hopes of burning down St. Catherine's college when they had her earlier. It's painfully obvious at this point that the FBI, DOJ and other institutions under Obama have become political organizations that have strayed wildly from their intended missions to act as protectors of big government, one world nonsense. The core of the accusations against Trump were always that he was colluding with foreigners to win the election when the reality is that Team Obama and Hillary were the ones colluding with foreigners all along.

It's all a distraction.

The kid had multiple disciplinary actions against him in school. He was apparently assigned to the separate mentally challenged class and then mainstreamed but no one can say why (I'm sure it was because ther's LOTS less paperwork. Combine that with bringing rounds of ammo to school and other crimes being dealt with in house per Obama and Trayvon Martin initiatives, PLUS nearly 40 domestic violence/etc responses by law enforcement to him.

Then add that the FBI was contacted about him at least twice.

This has little to nothing to do with mental illness. He could've been managed and monitored and I'm sure something done within the law regarding his firearms.

The problem? No one wanted to bother.

Like all gun crime, enforce the law. Full stop.

There is an inherent juxtaposition between English upper class women, and naughty naughty sexy.

So when these young hussies come along, and they bring the sexy, it's noteworthy, to the point of making them seem hotter than they are.

Which was absolutely true in the case of Diane.

Regardless, the wedding dress this one or that one wore, I don't know if I ever saw, and don't think it would have changed my view on the topic.

People you meet doing everything else.

Redistribution. It's what they do.

I still enjoy getting a dig into the daughter in law whenever the opportunity presents. Some comment like how we're slowly paying down the second mortgage that we got to afford our daughters wedding. I hope she enjoys hearing that, because I'm not tired of telling it.

I don't know how familiar you are with John Zorn who's been part of the downtown music scene for a long time. Like most musicians he's pretty much a doctrinaire lefty fuckhead but he has a label, Tzadik, which features, among other things, blown out klezmer musicians that take the song structure and crank the playing into stretching the improvisational boundaries. There were a lot of groups like that playing which was a perfectly unexpected way to end the day.

I do not think PDT has forgotten that doctrine. Based on the recent DACA drama, I'm betting PDT is offering something that most everyone in DC agrees on, expecting the Dems to want to pile-on with an AR-15/AK-47 ban, hi-cap magazine ban, and other bans. PDT will then say:
"I tried to get some "reasonable" limits passed, but Nancy and Chuck also want to take millions of guns away from millions of law-abiding people. No way!"

She still thinks she is spending too much money.

230 >>>>You know how the MSM tells up 99.99999% of people support universal

very topic went to a state wide referendum, it only passed with 60%?

So nationally 99.999999% support it, but in WA state, 40% opposed it.

.
.
.Yep, just like all of the polls the msm was putting out over Universal health Care in Colorado showed the overwhelming majority of voters liked the idea, but when it came up for an actual vote it was rejected by 80% of the voters.

Voting margins like that are unheard of in this Country and proves that the msm and others are engaged in nothing but push polling.

231 215 Want to see the cost of a wedding drop? Have the bride and goom pay for it themselves. In cash!

It has the added advantage of teaching them to shop for bargains. And it puts the emphasis back on the wedding and the meaning of marriage, not having the bride be Cinderella on someone else's dime.

I am someone who is a terrible sinner, but I get out and walk the walk and serve others to the best of my ability. Just finished Unbroken about the Olympic runner who was a POW in a Japanese camp (blanking on his name though). After the war he was trying to drown the nightmares, and PTSD in alcohol and coming apart rapidly, when his wife, who had been about to divorce him after he choked her during a nightmare, went to a Billy Graham crusade and came home with a completely different attitude. She sort of tricked him into going with her the next night (I forget how) and he sat through the thing angry at God and everyone, until the end (geeze, my memory is giving me fits, it's been like two weeks and the details are gone) when something Graham said pretty much was the word of God straight to him and he decided to stop fighting God. It saved his life and his marriage and led him to help teens who were on a path of bad decisions

Sorry that wasn't more clear, I thought it might be the sort of memorial Graham would like.

Add to that the cost of flying up, renting a car, and two nights in a hotel room.

I was taught to write thank-you notes immediately upon receipt of a gift. When my husband and I married, I'd come home from work and write ten notes. I don't understand how young people "can't find time" to do the same.

I've been to many weddings. I happen to find women attractive, in general.

Not once have I looked at a woman in a wedding dress and said "oh, that's a nice dress!" I can't think of one time when I noticed the quality or attractiveness of the thing.
Posted by: BurtTC at February 21, 2018 07:48 AM (Pz4pT)

The quality of the dress is not something intended for men to get but rather for women to get. As in, look at ME!

And greetings from a warm and soggy SEPA. My back yard is slowly transitioning from a yard to a swamp and on into a swimming pool. But the mosquitoes will be as big as hummingbirds for summer lawn-mowing, so that's nice.

343 Wedding photography is a scam and a half.

You ought to go into wedding photography as a living - since you think there is so much money to be made from it.

I hope you like working under pressure - because if you have any sort of equipment problem there aren't any do-overs.

My check list - just to do a remote portrait shoot is 3 pages long.

While there are a few superstar photographers who do very well - the average professional photographer barely makes enough money to get by.

How much do you think a wedding photographer ought to charge? $100? Ok, there are 52 weeks in a year, you can shoot one wedding a week. That comes to a tidy gross income of $5200 a year. Considering that a suitable Canon camera for wedding photography costs $4,799 and a simple on camera flash is $500 that doesn't leave much for food does it?

Do you really think you can book a wedding every week? How much time does it take to develop 200 raw shots into a professional quality photos? (Answer: about 66 hours if you do it correctly.)

352 Wedding ceremonies are always about making the girl, and especially her mother, feel good about themselves. Both of them will have been drawing pictures of it and dreaming of it for a decade or better. (yeah, I know that is an insane thought to most men)

That's why all traditional big style weddings are all about the Beautiful, Expensively Dressed, Fixed Up Bride, and Some Guy. The Guy is just a copy of the little figure on top of the cake, and you can kick one guy out and substitute another at the last minute, and the ceremony would be no different at all, it would look identical and most of the guests, even, would still be the same.

At Weddings, they guy is just a necessary placeholder. It's a celebration of the Bride. (and her mother)

OMG don't get me started on my wedding pics!

My Wife's boss at the hospital at the timeoffered to take the pics as a wedding present, she fancied herself as an aspiring wedding photog. This was the classic "offer you can't refuse"
She shows up and starts taking pictures, (this was in '88 so no digital anything) and says, "Oh shoot! I FORGOT MY GLASSES!!!"
So all of our wedding pictures are out of focus because instead of going home and getting glasses she took the pictures and used the camera to CORRECT FOR HER BAD EYESIGHT
If you think after 30 years I am still a bit unforgiving on this, you would be correct, especially since after we saw the proofs we didn't want to buy and more copies, which she wanted us to pay for. Some wedding gift huh?

That is the left's problems ... they are the commie cockroaches being exposed, and Mueller has been using lies and Dem/Russia/FBI propaganda.

Truth wins, if they don't kill us first. But truth is sneaking out via social media and blogs, they have networks, BigMoney, deep state, etc. Still plenty of RINOs around pushing an "I'm with Hillary" agenda.

_I saw the movie and although I obviously appreciated the subject matter, I felt as a film it fell a bit flat from a storytelling and moviemaking aspect. I have not read the book, though. Was hoping for something with the impact of say a "Papillon."_

381 The public high school in my NYC suburb in NJ had a functioning rifle range until the late 1970's and the only reason it stopped functioning is because the membership of the rifle club dwindled to the point of it being impractical to keep it.

Guns have been around for 100's of years and, for the most part, have not been a problem for society (except when it was convenient for the left for it to be so). Most schools, particularly rural and suburban schools, had shooting clubs and rifle ranges as recently as the start of my adult lifetime and yet the number of mass shootings at schools were at most a trickle. Perhaps 1-2 per year at the most.

As recently as the late 70's you could order rifles and long guns from the Sears catalog and the USPS would deliver them to your door. I remember seeing those ads in the catalogs as a kid.

Thus, it's perfectly reasonable, to my mind, to ask what is so utterly different with this current generation of delicate tender snowflakes that they seemingly cannot handle the responsibility of a tool that has been responsibly and safely used by previous generations for, literally, 100's of years before its decided that the rest of us need to make ourselves utterly powerless against foreign and domestic enemies.

That the left wants a man they've been declaring to be LITERALLY HITLER!!!!!!! to confiscate everyone's weapons is just another in a very long line of ironies they are completely allergic to.

388 I went to a kinda-sorta shotgun wedding back in the late 70's. I say kinda-sorta because while the bride was preggers and both were juniors in college (they got married during the fall semester and their kid was born 5 months later), the groom proposed when he found out his college girlfriend was expecting. The groom's dad owned a restaurant, so they had a little dinner there for family and close friends after getting married by a Justice of the Peace. The bride wore a maternity dress instead of a wedding gown. The bride and groom were cheerful, because at age 21, they were in love and hey, everything would work out fine. Both sets of parents looked like they were going to burst into tears. Their honeymoon consisted of a weekend in Chicago before returning to finish up the semester. They lived with her parents for 2 years after the baby was born.

Sounds like the marriage was doomed, right? Everyone except the couple thought so at the time. They are still married and they had 6 more kids after the first one. He makes very good money and she got her degree by going to school PT, although it took a while. They have 12 grandchildren and number 13 is on the way. (Although they made it clear to their own children that getting pregnant in college is not something to be emulated.)

The most expensive wedding I went to was a lavish affair in Boca Raton. That couple filed for divorce 2 years later.

397 I went to a wedding for some country cousins who lived within view of Holy Hill, Wisconsin. (A really unusual thing to be sitting out there in the middle of the countryside, makes you feel like you're somewhere in central Europe)

Anyway they had their feast after the wedding, in the back lot of the little church they went to, and it's the only time I've been at a gathering with a whole Roast Pig. They had a great big smoker, and they'd been cooking it for about 12 hours, head and all.

I had some, but I was embarrassed to admit that as much as I like pork, it found myself to be a little bit squeamish about coming and taking slices off the side of this once living thing that still had a head and a face. Obviously I have lived in the city way too long, because none of the country kin thought anything of it. Can't be squeamish and make a living out in the country.

Christianity is a rescue mission, and it is ongoing to this day. There is good reason we call souls called to Christ "saved". And Rev. Billy Graham saved millions.

Same when my oldest got married. Skies opened up just before and my FIL saved the day by having everybody standing around looking at each other move everything into my garage while we were otherwise occupied at the rehearsal. It was a great time with family members catching up with each other.

At the time #2 kid worked at a Ben and Jerry's scoop shop, so he made up a three tiered ice cream wedding cake. Only set us back the cost of the ice cream. Reception in the church basement. Whole wedding was like that, set us back maybe $1000 all told.

429 I'll honestly never understand the huge expensive wedding thing. I mean, if you have Trump money then go for it. But Mrs. DocJ and I had a very modest affair at the local Elks club, catered by the mostly-Italian membership of the club. The feast of ziti, sausage and peppers, chicken parm, salad, bread, and lasagna was at least as good as any wedding I've ever been to since.

Oh it gets better.
The amateur photographer insisted we stay at the church to take pictures for almost TWO HOURS so when we got to our own reception the entire party had wiped out the buffet, I mean , it looked like a horde of ravenous ferrets had run over the tables... I think I got one lonely shriveled cocktail weenie for dinner, and my wife got nothing ( I did offer her the weenie first, but she wouldn't take it) Then at the end of the reception we found out that the venue had kept serving champagne to the guests even though we had told them we had a cap of $500 and we were presented a bill for $1300 which had to be paid Immediately! as in paid with the cash we were going to use to go on our honeymoon.
I got more, but don't want to bore you.

438 According to Fox news, only three of the ten guns in Cruz's possession were bought legally.

The FBI was notified twice about this punk and they did nothing.

The police in Broward County is under a Democrat superintendent. They were called over 30 times to this punks home by complains about his behavior. They did nothing.
Why?
Since obama's reign of terror regulations have been enforced in both Broward and Miami Dade counties which throw out or hide crimes committed by teenage minorities. Minority students commit too many crimes compared to whites you see, and that is not fair. Cruz may be white but his last name is hispanic.

So who is at fault for this punks behavior?

His biological mother who seems was a drunk. Cruz shows facial traits of kids affected by fetal alcoholic syndrome.
The bastads from the adoption agency that dumped this kid on aging adoptive parents desperate to adopt a child. They had to know that he came from a troubled biological mother and family.
Possibly his adoptive parents and family who should have committed him to an insane asylum. Don't know that that would have been possible given the left's over protection of violent teens.

The FBI.

The local police.

The Broward county school board with their criminal and insane regulations hiding crimes committed by minority teens.

The lying media who is keeping the truth above under wraps.

The obama administration which came up with these criminal regulations to create equity in punishment rates between white and minority teens.

The sob Nicolas Cruz who deliberately planned and carried out the murders.

Who is not guilty? Those being accused:
The guns.
Gun manufacturers.
NRA members like me.
American gun owners like me.

439 Another big issue with weddings is when two families have very different views.

My family writes a (generous but not huge) check, and you do anything you want with it. Pay for the wedding, honeymoon, keep it. Whatever. But, that is all you get.

Wife's family pays until they are out of money, and expect others to kick in to make it equitable.

Tough situation.

441 Nicholas Cruz has an inheritance of $800,000.00 now that his Brother has been involuntary committed to a mental institution their foster mother/legal Guardian is petitioning to e allowed to take control of that $800,000.00 want a good reason for Cruz to go lethal I think it starts here.

442 It's not true that a change in existing law is required to ban bump stocks attached to AR-15s. They render a semi-automatic full auto, with the sole excepting that the shooter must maintain forward pressure on the fore-end. That is such a de minimis distinction that should be regarded by the ATF as legally insignificant. And yes, they can do that.

443 I think the point is you don't need a $5K camera to take good pics
though. It's a bit like saying you need an IBM mainframe which costs a
gazillion dollars, when in reality a $500 laptop will do.

Ok, I have a Pentax K1 - it is a suitable camera for portrait work in a studio - turns out beautiful 36 MP shots - has image quality equal to just about anything on the market. Costs about $1700, the kit lens is $500 for the 28-105. The on camera flash is $370 or so.

The problem is it is not suitable for wedding photography. Why not? it is too slow writing to the memory cards - particularly when in raw, and when you do a write to both cards ( for safety in case one of the cards malfunctions. ) Speed in cameras costs big bucks. And speed is what your need for any sort of event photography. If you try to use a less expensive camera you'll quickly learn that. Sure any camera can shoot a quick short burst - but you will then lock up the camera while the data is written to the cards. That is why you really need a 1DX Canon or a D5 Nikon for that kind of work. You also need long battery life - amateur cameras don't have that.

444 "We not only dodged a bullet in 2016 but it was a major shock to the system. 2018 is going to be for all the marbles."

2016 was for all the marbles. And I'm guessing 2020 will also be for all the marbles. This is exhausting. Asteroid, anybody?

I would disagree with you on that.

447 They love to talk about the guns guns guns. But look at how many of these kids were seeing therapists and on some sort of psychiatric medication!

Every one of the school shooters was! EVERY SINGLE ONE! This is not by accident.

https://www.cchrint.org/school-shooters/

Look at how many of these school shooters heard voices? Want to be paranoid? Consider how badly the left wants all out gun control... what if you were able to whisper hateful thoughts into a troubled child's mind?
