Good morning Morons. Another week has passed and here we are in the last Saturday of February.

Let's take a gander at some items that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

***

Enjoy these stories and or something else in this open thread. No running with sharp objects, pants are optional so are elbows on the table. Be nice and be well.

Have a great weekend!

I'll repost for Jane D'oh

Our church has a medical team in Guatemala right now that, along with other churches, is serving over 2,000 people with medical/dental needs in remote villages. One of the volunteers said it's stunning to see 2,000 people line up peacefully and wait patiently for hours or days to be seen for needed treatments. Our team consists of everything from our pastor, to a married couple who buy and prepare food for our team, an interpreter, and medical pros. They've been doing this for years.

My husband says that when/if he ever sells his business and retires, he'd love to go as an interpreter. I'd love to volunteer with meals.

They do have to have security. It's a dicey area.

God bless these volunteers.

26 We had a board meeting in Athens Thursday night, and the venue where we had the dinner meeting was weird.

We got there and the two staffers were very glum-faced. The small buffet was pretty awful, too.

It turned out the manager of the venue, a man in his 40's, had died suddenly and his funeral was that day(!!) We ate quietly, thanked the two staffers whole-heartedly, and left without holding a meeting. Someone said the man died of the flu. Awful.

My husband attended a breakfast meeting yesterday, and we drove out to a work site. Watched my husband and other guys walk around in the mud and grass and take pictures of the mud, grass and trees.

Spending the rest of the weekend at my MiL's and her sister's retirement village. I can't even. Last night we ate in the assisted living dining room. My MiL and her sister picked at their food and argued from 5:30 until after 7:00. I wanted to kill myself.

One more night and we flee back home. I do all the driving so my husband can make calls, e-mail, and text. We're a team.

Yup....in Floriduh, the County Sheriff's is only one step below the Governor in the Chain of Command. The County Councils do his budget and advise on yes or no for certain budget items, but the Sheriff works for the voters and the Governor.

Goes back to when there were not many towns/cities yet incorporated in the state, whereby the Sheriff was the only law enforcement.

Nowadays, it is the opposite. Most towns and cities in Florida have popo outfits so no real need for Sheriffs, but then back in the 80s they got smart and contracted with towns and cities to be their popo departments.

Broward County Sheriff's Office serves the county and several small towns that they suckered into providing "lower" cost popo service to for a fee. Of course once they suckered them in, it's hard to get out of the deal.

They are no different than the mob who are always on the look out for paying customers. The Schools also pay fees to the Sheriff to provide their SROs.

It's a racket.

Yup....Broward and Dade counties were basically built out to the everglades by the early 90's but the Sheriff's in both counties, seeing their county area shrink and shrink, began hiring themselves out to local jurisdictions instead of being downsized or eliminated completely.

Once a town or city became a client, the costs to overturn the protection racket deal was to onerous budget wise to overcome, at least in the short term as their local popo was "absorbed" into the Sheriff's mob.

Just like Goodfellas.

A proper military 1911 is supposed to rattle a bit.

The last Master Sergeant I worked for in the Army was old-school Special Forces. Spent a lot of his career on ops in Central and South America, including with the Contras and the Salvadorans during the bad times in the early 80s.

He told us a story about how EVERY soldier/fighter/guerrilla in Latin America wants a pistol. It's a cultural thing down there: Pistol = El Jefe. And for a lot of those men, the 1911 was their introduction to pistols.

So when he was training the Contras, they got a bunch of pistols from different sources and international arms dealers. Problem was, they were mostly tightly fitted modern pieces rather than the 1911s that the Contras wanted. They were miffed because they associated rattle with reliability. And that was more important than extreme accuracy.

So the piled the pistols on tables and the Contras would examine them one by one, shaking them like they were trying to strangle them. No rattle, they'd toss them back into the crate with a "no bueno".

When they got a maraca gun, they'd smile hugely "Ahhhhhhh, bueno!" And walk away with their new pistola.

173 Good morning all. One little factoid I heard, but did not confirm, was that Broward County Sheriff's Office is the largest in the US. Bigger is better and better able to hide the financial shennanigans. We taxpayers have been paying for this nonsense for years in our schools. Bigger 'consolidated' districts will save money! Bigger schools, more services, etc. Doesn't work that way because the weight of the bureaucracy drags everything down. I think Chicago Public Schools, just to name one, have more employees than students. We are the stupid suckers.

Please note that the county's 911 lines will not be answered during the hours of 9:30 - 10:00 AM, 6:30 - 7:00 PM and 1:30 - 2:00 AM each day because of contract-mandated breaks for coffee and donuts. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Do a web search, find out who other than Hertz and Fedex cut their business deals with the NRA. Then write those companies and tell them you are done with them.

The easiest way is to use Twitter. Twitter's search engine will take you right to their account quickly.

The people monitoring the inbox / twitter account for Enterprise are 26 year old SJWs. They will delete your email. But the ones screaming about the NRA will get forwarded to a manager/director/VP.

222 "211 206 Is there a list of the companies who have dropped their association with the NRA?"

The NRA needs to have the stones to put this list out to every member and organize member-led boycotts of these companies. The NRA needs to launch a very strong counter attack, to let corps know that there is a price to be paid for their actions. A literal price.

The NRA also needs to have the stones to instantly fire anyone inside their organization that doesn't think this is absolutely necessary for their survival, and I'm guessing there's several.

Just like the Trump and the republicans, the first step in any war is to get rid of all the traitors inside your own ranks first.

Dremels run really, really fast. Some have speed controls to slow them down, though. But you don't want to use a fast drill speed for drilling brass, like a spent cartridge case. Much too easy for the drill bit to get snagged in the metal, and spin the case out of whatever is holding it. You could be hurt.
I'd recommend getting a small cordless drill, and a set of drill bits. Should run you less than the Dremel, too.

Posted by: DeploraBOT at February 24, 2018 09:56 AM (y3aQB)

*tinfoil hat ON!*

Look at Fast and Furious under Obama and Holder.

It was a giveaway of "assault weapons", etc to Mexican Drug Gangs with the hope that they would use those weapons to commit murder (of American citizens as well as Mexican) and thus bolster the call for gun control.

Is it so difficult to believe that the same people who thought that was a great idea, who conceived that idea and who financed that idea-

would encourage lunatic a-holes (or worse fund them, etc) to shoot up schools and/or outdoor events in red state or conservative areas to bolster the call for gun control?

Bonus Question: Explain the non-explanation of the Las Vegas murder spree.

Double Bonus Question: Is the rumor true or false that Soros made a huge killing with put orders on MGM stock right after the shooting?

*tinfoil hat OFF!*

Rumors are not facts, so I have no idea whether anything about that is true or not. And opinions are just opinions.

But Fast and Furious appears to have been a direct effort to create criminal action (murder) for political purposes.

With the Left, the ends always justify the means.

How many Obamites are still in powerful positions in the FBI?

How many eggs should be broken to get gun control?

Jewells, you really want a flex shaft tool with variable speed control, usually foot operated. Adjusting the speed on a Dremmel is difficult to do as you are working. I've used both and the flex shaft tool is easily your better choice.

On ebay now there is such a tool and accessories available for under $80. Look for "SE 979FSG Flexible Shaft Grinder Chuck Pedal Switch".

291 Here's the thing. I don't like it when people "jump the gun" on judgement. In any situation. Trayvon Martin for example.

So, I'm not going to pile onto the 3 additional deputies, because for all I know, they were following some sort of order. Maybe their training dictates a more talk-down resolution. Maybe they thought storming the building would escalate things and make things worse.

But the school resource officer....taxpayers are paying to have an officer on the premises of these schools for the safety of the students. It was his job to step in. It wasn't his job to assess the situation. It was his job to be a law enforcement presence on that campus.

So, I'm not going to call anyone a coward...not yet anyway, not without knowing all the facts. Not without hearing their side of the story.

But, I am glad the resource officer resigned....clearly he wasn't cut out for it.

I said last night that Leftists are perfectly willing to murder their opponents when they are in power. The 20th century provides ample evidence of that.

What would keep them from murdering innocents in order to gain power?

Mass shootings like this are good for advancing the Leftist cause. I'm not saying that they are deliberately allowed to happen. I am saying that it is foolish to dismiss the possibility.

I was driving my truck to pick up some brush and stopped near a wild cherry tree. Before I could get out, a red-headed woodpecker descended on that tree and entertained me for several minutes. I just sat in the truck until he decided he was done snacking and flew off. What struck me was the absolute scarlet brilliance of his head, and I felt privileged to be able to observe him at such a close range!

360 Fun facts about the turkey vulture:

The turkey vulture has a 6-foot wingspan.

The birds spread their wings to warm their body and shake off bacteria. The vulture will actually defecate on its own leg to cool itself down.

Turkey vultures excrete a large amount of uric acid which acts a sanitizer. This kills bacteria the vulture picks up while feeding off carrion, or dead animal carcasses. Did you know they have a tolerance to certain poisons people use to kill coyotes and squirrels?

One primary form of defense for turkey vultures is to vomit, or cough up undigested meat. This usually occurs when the nest is being invaded. The foul smell defers predators from bothering their young.

About 15 years ago I was driving at about 50 on a rainy road, and two of them just walked right out in front of me. I swerved to avoid them and spun out into the median. Good thing it was a divided highway with a grassy median, or I would have gone straight into oncoming traffic.

I couldn't get underway again, but luckily a tow truck happened to be passing by at that moment and saw the whole thing.

A few minutes later the police arrived. I told the officer my story, and then the tow truck driver said, "Look!"

The two geese had crossed the median and were placidly walking across the other side of the highway.

381 I super stoked about the new policy of the MSM putting up pictures and names of the accused for mass murders then offering a plea deal to avoid death, which you are dead IRL anyways, and to avoid that entire hassle (of collecting and conserving all evidence, following the procedures of fact finding, and interviewing all witnesses) as to avoid the feelings of the truamatized members of the community.

This way the 5-6 major corporations that own 95% of all visual, print, and internet media can spoon feed the "facts and narrative" to the public while ignoring, erasing, and penalizing those who report these facts filling in the obvious plot holes. See YouTube current YouTube purge of alternative media.
