DOJ Official Who Was Supposed to Interview Hillary Clinton In the Email Investigation, But Seems To Have Had a Nice Friendly Quilting Bee Instead, Steps Down, Citing "Personal Reasons"

David Laufman, who leads the DOJ's counterintelligence division, is leaving the DOJ for “personal reasons,” according to The Washington Post. In addition to working on the investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information, Laufman has also worked on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. On the Clinton investigation, he sat in on interviews with the former secretary of state and several of her aides, including Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin and Jake Sullivan.Peter Strzok of all people got annoyed with Laufman for just sitting in on these "big interviews" -- I think Strzok means that he wasn't doing the gruntwork needed to clear Hillary Clinton, but was instead just doing the easy part, talking with Hillary Clinton about grandchildren and Yoga Routines. But I can't be sure. Meanwhile, new texts seem to indicate that Peter Strzok violated security protocols in using a cell phone in a SCIF -- the whole point of a SCIF being that it's entirely cut off from the digital-cybernetic world. Bringing a cell phone into a SCIF now brings cyberintrusion right into the place built to lock out all cyberintrusion, yet Strzok texted that "We're here in Jims SCIF," which seems likely a reference to Jim Baker, the former FBI General Counsel and a close ally of, get this, James "The Prophet" Comey. One point in his favor -- he apparently finds Chelsea Clinton to be "awful," "entitled," lacking in any authenticity, and suffering a "[billy] goat tic" in speaking.

Texting we're here in Jim's SCIF could have been texted prior to entering and putting the cell phone in the little boxes that are usually right outside the SCIF's door. That is, letting someone know that they arrived at the SCIF vice actually being inside of it. Sloppy choice of words in terms of at/in--- sure. But unless there's something else to confirm it--- There's clearer evidence of a whole lot of bad stuff that went down.

Regular Civil Service, even if you are fired for cause, but are eligible for retirement, you can retire, BY LAW.
FBI, and now the VA, are under different rules..

. She was suspected of passing that information to her aides and storing it on an improper server.
The only reason for a counterintelligence agent to interview her is if Clinton was suspected of passing classified information to foreign agents.

Her investigation was a criminal investigation regarding criminal violations, such as evading FOIL and Disclosure of Classified Information (18 USC 79. She was suspected of passing that information to her aides and storing it on an improper server.
The only reason for a counterintelligence agent to interview her is if Clinton was suspected of passing classified information to foreign agents.

I had Rush on during my daily trip to the dog park, and Rush indicated counterintelligence investigations are NOT related to a crime investigation. Coounterintelligence investigation may, of course, lead to a criminal investigation, but the two are legally separate issues.
Big difference is that counterintelligence MUST be reported to the POTUS.
Which means that Obama may not have interfered with any criminal investigation, but with Strzok present, he was required to be briefed by the counterintelligence agent.

No, I wouldn't expect one in an already secured area such as an FBI headquarters or such. You already have a security perimiter to keep out the real bad guys. But as I said, it could depend on the location. But highly unlikely a SCIF is out on its own somewhere. I would be very surprised by that.

And I don't think Sessions' recusal makes it at all clear whether he could/could not be involved in the FISA investigation. There is a much, much larger FISA scandal brewing, that has nothing to dow the 2016 campaign. But the stuff we're talking about these days is 100% campaign-related.

If they thought it was worth it to trash both their personal relationships to cover for the thousands of texts it suggests they had a pretty good idea of the extent of their crimes.

There has been lots of speculation about his recusal with some people even going so far as to say that he recused himself from anything having to do with Hillary. Its wrong and was clarified last fall.
He restarted the Uranium One investigation. He restarted the CGI investigation. As far as I know the only thing he is recused on is interference by Russia with the Trump campaign and he did so because he was a senior foreign policy appointee on Trump's transition team and he forgot to mention a couple of meetings with Russian government officials during the campaign which would have made him a key target of any investigation.
It's meaningless. We are going to get a 2nd special counsel anyway.

I suspect he is doing exactly as ordered, waiting for the evidence that he can actually introduce into a court of law about all the malfeasance of the Clintons, Obamas, DNC and FBI/DOJ and bring about some convictions. We can want to use innuendo to drain the swamp, but that is little better than the Steele (Clinton/Blumenthal/Shearer) dossier. Congress is doing its oversight, but the OIG has the biggest role in this, and when that report is released, I won't be too surprised to find a few patsies arrested and let them sing for their skin.
PDT is a showman, and his public comments against Sessions and the recusal may be nothing more than highlighting Patton's "army" preparing for an amphibious operation into Calais.
