Progressive Pussies and Hysterics Now Shrieking That Donald Trump Wants a Parade to Honor the Military
I guess the fear is that he will, Julius-Caesar-like, ride at the front of the parade and thrice reject a golden laurel before accepting it and becoming Emperor.
The threat of full martial law and social chaos is now so close at hand that Jeff Flake has emailed out detailed plans on where his wife and her boyfriend can meet if they're separated in the rioting.It should be noted that while Napoleon was a world class prick who drenched the world in blood to gratify his own outsized ego, he did kill a lot of Social Justice Warriors in the aftermath of the Reign of Terror. By the way, the commenter calling himself "Commenter" recommended this video by Lindybiege about Napoleon's greatest foe (and no, it's not Wellington or anyone you've likely heard of), and it's just great. This guy's name -- Sir Sidney Smith -- should be routinely mentioned among the great military leaders. I honestly couldn't believe all the cool shit this guy did, most of it on his own initiative -- he was essentially rebuked by the British chain of command for going out to beat Napoleon in the Holy Land. And he did beat him there, by the way. This guy went rogue so much he could star in a Tom Cruise movie. Oh, and Lindybiege really opened my eyes to the full costs in human lives of Napoleon's pointless invasion of just about the entire world. I had previously believed, not sure why (maybe I had a pro-Napoleon prof at one time) that Napoleon's invasions were chiefly defensive to overcome the British-led Cordon Sanitaire against France, but really, what was the point of invading Egypt and the Levant, except to compete with Alexander the Great in some dick-measuring contest with a ghost? Anyway, really great video. It's an hour long but if you give it ten minutes, you'll want to watch the rest. BTW, the sidebar is well-stocked today. Given that this is a lame post, feel free to just talk about whatever more than usual.

"I think everyone should be offended by his need to always be showing. More seriously, few seem to recall there was a parade in June 1991 for the first Gulf War. Fantastic weather, very nice parade. F-117s flying down the Mall.
And it elicited exactly the response you'd expect, and are now seeing from some. Actually one of my first "WTF?" moments with a few people, who had a visceral negative reaction they couldn't explain. Typical urban libs with little understanding of the world, the military, or national security. But their irrational disgust at the idea of a parade was striking.

I know I would've spoke (or emailed whatever) to more than one person about this parade and now he knows which people he can trust not to leak stuff he asks about to the media.
Cause each person was asked in a slightly different way so as to separate the leakers from the non leakers.

THIS^ Having spent 30 years in our illustrious Corps I can uneviically state that I've been in more "parades" that one can shake a stick at. All are a pain in the arse from rehearsal, assembly, tracking folks down, support staff, endless days and shitty weather but in the end they were all parades. Some on base, post or station. Others in public for Vets Day, July 4th, etc so not sure what all the ruckus is. Eh, but it is what it is and as we have said here before, it's like PDJT has a laser pointer and says look MFM and off they go while he continues to get work done in the background.
Keep up the great work Mr. President and keep tweeting the laser pointer.

Post 9/11 I remember waiting in a massive traffic stoppage while they rolled an endless line of Humvees and other equipment down the street to the air strip to be loaded on the planes headed for the Middle East.
Now, usually people, being people, would have been angrily honking their horns, flipping the bird and cursing out their windows, not because they hated the military but because people hate traffic jams.
But in those post-9/11 days things were different. Everyone was laughing and cheering and fist-pumping and shouting words of encouragement. "Go git 'em!"

The Brits had cause to regret their victory; the restoration of the Bourbons resulted in further revolts and revolutions every 10-15 years until the Paris Commune, the first explicitly Communist government in Europe ... which was crushed by Bonaparte's nephew, who promptly crowned himself Napoleon III and spent 20 years industrializing and modernizing France. The Brits decided they could live with him; that was the beginning of the Anglo-French alliance that has lasted until today.

I notice that in spite of all the snarky responses to this, nobody has actually given an answer, so I will:
The point was Suez and the trade routes to India and the Far East. Same reason Rommel went for it a century later. Cut Britain off from its overseas empire, all of a sudden it's just a middling-size island. Also the invasion of Egypt was when Napoleon was just an army officer, he wasn't any kind of head honcho then. He made political hay of it, certainly, but he was good at making use of opportunities that way.

Conquering Egypt would not have cut off the UK from its empire,and Britain would still have been home to the most advanced economy in the world.I'm sure India featured in his decision but his Egyptian trip was primarily to maintain his position as the talented military leader and not be compromised by the politicking of that time.
