Good morning Horde. Let's take a look at a few things that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

***

Please feel free to talk about these stories or something else in this open thread. No running with sharp objects, keep your feet off the table and be nice to one another. Have a great weekend!

22 Ten degrees here on a bright morning. I broke the carafe on the coffee maker yesterday. Brought out an ancient stove top percolator not used in decades. Should have done it years ago. 30 well here goes:

More Noos; today is Saturday, February 3, 2018. On this day in 1913 the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, authorizing the Federal government to impose and collect an income tax. This also had the ultimate effect of shifting power permanently from the States to the federal government. When combined with the 14th amendment and a court full of nanny state leftest black robes the States no longer had any authority over anything that congress decided to get into. John Adams and the Federalists finally got what they wanted, an all powerful central government.

31 Nunes appeared on Fox News to talk about THE MEMO.

Appearing on "Special Report," Nunes told Fox News' Bret Baier that the motivation behind releasing the memo was protecting the rights of American citizens

He 'nicely' called Nazipelousy and the rest of the Democrats liars also and laid part of the blame there on the MFM. My personal opinion is that there are at least three people and maybe more who need to go to jail over this shit, beginning with Hillary Ass Scankles and including several Clinton aides in the FBI.

33 Former FBI assistant director says 'if the allegations in the memo are true' it is a shocking disgrace to the FBI and has ruined their 'good reputation'. One wonders if the could get enough qualifiers in there. The FBI has maintained a good reputation with the press and the general public by being largely apolitical in the past. And congress and Presidents largely honored that. That changed under Obama who used every agency he had control over in the federal government to attack Republicans, conservatives, and the taxpaying public. And Republicans in congress allowed him to do it.

39 Last night while watching Tucker, I was yelling at the television during his interview with the Democratic Congressman. I couldn't understand his logic regarding his objection to releasing the memo. Then he referenced the recent vote on renewal of the FISA law.
According to him, even the president cannot look at the evidence against him if he's the target of an investigation under the FISA law. And he may be right. If this is true, then I believe that FISA has to be unconstitutional. If the president doesn't have the right to see the possible evidence against him to mount a defense, then due to the FISA law, it would violate his fourth and fifth Amendment rights.
The Republicans are getting outlawyered!

51 Trump's EPA is rescinding Obama's revision to the regulations under the clean water act that define what 'federally protected waters' are. Remember the act intended these to be navigable water ways or streams that fed the navigable waterways. Under Democrat autocratic rule, and especially Pharaoh Obama, dry land became navigable waterways. The Trump lawyers expect there to be significant litigation by the watermelons on this despite the fact that Obama severely abused the intent of the act. The same goes for former congressman Joe Walsh. His radio show used to be good, now he's foaming at the mouth about how bad the memo is, he can't believe Republicans would go after the FBI and he contends that Mueller is just trying to get to the bottom of what Russia did. He even defended Comey the other day. He's gone completely off the rails.

110 Good morning Hordelings! The FISA Court has been around for a long time, but the Patriot Act allowed agencies to share information. Keeping investigations inhouse was called 'stovepiping'. Sharing information allowed them to accumulate power vs regular citizens. Just wanted to clear up that misconception. Of course, this info-sharing doesn't work (see Tsarnaev), but it sure relaxes warrant requirements.

One possible answer is all international communications are captured by NSA. Lets say for the sake of argument that domestic communications are captured too, but for forms sake, by the Brits.

"Spying" is accomplished mainly by sending queries to the databases, unless you're a person of interest (like those two clowns Page and Papadopoulos), in which case the powers that be seem to review all your communications continually.

159 It's slightly off topic, but I was writing something about pedophilia (I'm against if there is any doubt) and I had occasion to look at the sex offender list for my area code. There was a substantial list, though most of the people on it were residents in a single halfway house a few blocks from me. But there was one well known person who was not on the list, who I believe should have been.

I live just off University Place in New York City in 10003 area code, and Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin live just a block away. Before his incarceration I would see him all the time. Yet in spite of his conviction, 'Carlos Danger' has managed to stay off the public sex offender list.

This might simply be bureaucracy. Maybe they don't update the list until he's released. Or maybe it's administrative and his 'official residence is somewhere else. But given the nature of Clintonian politics, I thought it pretty curious.

172 Recusal is how they play the game. They got Ashcroft to recuse when they went after Cheney and Libby. The Dep. AG who named Fitzgerald: Jim Comey.

How did Comey get his job? He was the Atty. who gave the Clinton/Rodaham Gang exoneration for buying and selling pardons.

After witnessing what has happened in the last year regarding elections, I don't know how any ordinary citizen without a slew of lawyers can run for office. A mish like Gloria Allred can parade a bunch of supposed victims claiming decade old misdeeds without any actual proof.

Look, I don't know if Roy Moore was a creep, pedophile or sexual assault perp, but he deserved due process, didn't he? And I'm not defending him, I'm just defending his right to a fair process.

There isn't going to be an impeachment. This entire Russia thing is bogus, completely fabricated. In fact, the only colluding with Russia that took place during the election was between Hillary Clinton and the DNC.

The memo is important for what it is, the very first small step in exposing this scam, but it is only that, the first step.

265 Barack Obama had a government that was transparent all over the place. Hillary Clinton came along and said she wanted to shatter the glass ceiling. But the glass ceiling is transparent, isn't it? Was Hillary Clinton for or against transparency? Maybe she wanted to replace the glass ceiling with Plexiglas or Saran Wrap, but then there would be all these shards of what used to be the ceiling on the floor. People could cut themselves! Who would clean that up?

I very much respect your opinion, JS, but I was flabbergasted when I saw that Stephen Boyd, asst. AG (who came from Sessions' senate office), permitted mueller's team to redact the page/strzok texts. Why?

The R's took 63 seats back in 2010 with an energized electorate; the d's only need a third of that number. I know that confidence in a strong economy will be a good thing for R's, but worried about the outside money/global factors wanting Trump to fail. Well they aren't going to so there's that.

By November we are going to be so far down the road with this whole process that what is happening now will be a memory.

The left has had a year to take their best shot at Trump and all it has left them with is a very popular tax cut, the beginning of the end of Obamacare and a very unpopular government shutdown and they now have to figure out if they want the only issue they have to run will be favoring illegal immigrants over American citizens. Oh and Trump now has a 49% approval rating.

(99 years of relative peace)
1914 - 1945 - World War, Europe blows itself up and burns most of its cities down.

English speaking world:
1640 - 1660: Civil War, England burns, thousands are executed
(116 years of internal peace)
1776 - 1784: Sparks of the old Civil War reignite, becoming the American Revolution.

I don't know how much of it is planned, and how much is unplanned. Those people keep exposing themselves.

You want to be the Party of women? Great! Yell and scream about what Trump said, then make all sorts of excuses for Al Franken and others on "your" side.

Want to be the Party of minorities? Yes, tell us how dreamy the illegal mexicans are, but when somebody dares to suggest that maybe kinda sorta helping poorer black Americans have decent jobs, is a dream worth having, and that makes you worse than Hilter...

Want to be the Party of government solutions? Fine, let's have a bureaucracy that helps keep the executive in check, but as soon as you start showing those unelected bureaucrats are lawless pricks, and that means you're playing partisan politics!!

People see the truth for themselves.

I don't think Sessions has anything to do with how this looks, and frankly, I don't think Trump does either. This government, the one that is oversized and in EVERY city, completely run by Democrats, IS the problem. And people can see that more clearly every day.

I think there is a book called "The Four Turnings" about this cycle.
The Horde version is

The Four Seasons of Civilization
Hard times create strong men;
Strong men create good times;
Good times create weak men;
Weak men create hard times!

The Heinlein version is

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded - here and there, now and then - are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck"!

Yeah, you can't swallow an elephant whole. It's not just what the memo says that is relevant. That's just a piece of it. The timeline of events and who did what is important too. That's the danger of the memo. It makes it too easy to dismiss the larger picture when you focus on just one piece. I think the Dems were doing that on purpose, and I know the MSM is. 340 The only thing that would end this bullshit with the minimum amount of pain and suffering would be if Mueller had an epiphany and says to himself, "This is bullshit and I'm ending this farce right now." Of course the media would blow-up and say that Mueller is with the Russians too....in other words, they are never under any circumstance EVER going to give up on Russian Collusion. It's become a security blanket or a service animal and they won't ever let it go for fear of falling apart.

341 Good morning, Horde!

During the night, Japan broke the record for the smallest rocket to orbit a satellite. They modified a two-stage suborbital sounding rocket by adding a third stage and a guidance system, and put a 6 lb. cubesat into orbit. (The previous record was also held by Japan, in 1970.)

Here is an article about it:

Any new information that trickles in... like this memo thing, it'll bounce off, because the relentless sources of information they get, it tells them this is nothing. It allows them to safely dismiss the facts, without ever having it thrust at them with any sort of force that will make them see it.

381 That Japanese rocket is way cool, and I think the way of the future. Because of mass/acceleration issues, it's far easier to put a small payload into orbit. Miniaturization of electronic and control components means there's no reason for bulky rockets - they would only be needed for warheads and humans.

No one wants to admit what should be obvious to any impartial observer - if we are going to explore Mars, it's going to be explored by miniaturized 'bots controlled by an AI. Not by human beings.

Corrupt, somnambulant, or functioning as designed?

A quick hit of the googles shows 0.3% of FISA warrant applications denied. Let's assume that's off by an order of magnitude and only 97% percent of FISA warrant applications are granted.

Do you blame the members of the court, or the institution. It looks to me like something designed to give the government unfettered spy power and it's working quite well.

The Glorious Revolution did involve a pretty fierce war in Ireland, which I suppose could be rolled into the early Jacobite wars. The Jacobite Rebellions were much more than an English versus Scottish war - a number of highland clans supported the Hanoverian dynasty (most notably, the Campbells) and there was a lot of Jacobite sympathizers in England during the '45 rebellion, which we may recall cam every close to succeeding at one point. It was a political conflict, not an ethnic one.

Also, the Scots-Irish and Anglo-Irish were involved in some of the Irish rebellions. Not just ethnic conflicts.

Basically, I think your timeline is too simple (what was going on in Britain from 1660 till now, for example?) to be a useful tool of analysis.

One of the reasons why NaCly's friend dying is significant (aside from love). I used to know elderly ladies who were college-educated in the 'hard' sciences and had successful careers and families. One youngster was amazed that her grandmother's degree was in biochemistry and she just could not imagine that women could and did do those things. The takeover of the institutions.

The news anchors on tv were claiming it was an 'accident' while trying to hide obvious, giddy smiles on their faces.

Anyway, when I take it upon myself to help him, I get immediately grabbed by some goons who bound and haul me off towards some van. As soon as the doors close, I woke up.

Weird dream.

415 381 That Japanese rocket is way cool, and I think the way of the future.

Two weeks ago a small liquid-fueled rocket launched from New Zealand also reached orbit. I don't know if it was the smallest liquid-fueled rocket, but it was probably close. (The Japanese rocket was solid-fueled.) It featured some advanced technology like carbon-fiber construction and 3D printed parts.

We've been doing robotic exploration for 60 years now, and they keep getting more capable and more reliable. Robots are preferable for exploration and things like asteroid mining, but I still think there will be human colonization at some point.

By an odd coincidence, the next scheduled launch is on Tuesday afternoon from the Kennedy Space Center. If successful, the Falcon Heavy will become the largest rocket in the world.

Posted by: willow at February 03, 2018 11:23 AM

Read the instruction manual? You don't understand the way the male mind works after how many years of marriage?

Seriously, when I used to write software we had a special acronym for people who did dumb stuff -- RTFM. Read the ______ manual.

Posted by: Acme Trucking Enterprises, White Truck Division at February 03, 2018 11:28 AM (2FqvZ)

417 True, Vic, but that ain't the worst part about this
weapon. It's self guiding, but much more importantly, over 100 MT in
yield. That's a bigger bomb than the Tsar Bomba, the largest nuke ever
lit off (by the Russkies), at a yield of 50 MT.

Yeah. But it's probably nothing.

Posted by: GnuBreed at February 03, 2018 09:33 AM (0ogQG)

It also sounds like made-up bullshit, with no practical military value. Do you really want a weapon that takes weeks to reach its target? What if it became known that Russia had launched such a device, and aimed it at NYC? First, there would be time to evacuate most of the people, and second, it would be a license for America to order all the ICBMs in the silos to be launched at Russia.
Sounds to me like it's simply a boogey-man weapon, with little to no chance of ever being actually constructed, like that nuclear ramjet cruise missile idea from 40 years ago.

so really i should shush.

but i won't because always so curious on what happens next.

423 Been mulling this over and give it to the Horde to pick apart.

Trump isn't a grand champion chess player with the Dems.

But he is tenacious and he is shrewd enough to work the parties over to get what he wants. I remember a story when he was building Trump Tower, he needed permission from the neighboring buildings to construct his sky scraper in their sightline (NYC for you). He presented two plans. One was for some Gawd awful ugly building and the other was for his building that he wanted.

That was the deal he gave the dems during the SOTU.

What Trump is, however, an old school patriot who doesn't buck and loves the US.

He spent the last 50 years or so, making his business work in NYC, a decidedly hostile environment towards anything constructive.

He doesn't bow down to outside pressure.

And this is why it serves him well against the Dems and the Democrat Media Complex (BIRM)

They are so reflexively against anything Republican and use to them saying, "Thank you sir, may I have another!" (Look at the last 30 years of the GOPe for examples. Primarily, Maverick, Mittens, both Bushes, on down the leadership line) than when Trump punches back, they don't know what to do. They are the bitch now when they use to tell the bitch what to do.

It's not really Nine Dimensional Chess he is playing but just an intrinsic love of the Country and recognizing America Exceptionalism. And the progressive reflex is to take the opposite position so their mask slips and falls off. And they will double down.

It's due to Trump's ego why that plays out so well. He's the f--king president, he won.

And without it, he (and the nation, by extension) wouldn't be where we are.

424 I think the neighbor selling the house kind of
questions who might be the real asshole. Like the disgruntled employee
who thinks he was fired for no reason and then goes postal.

Sometimes, when everyone around is an asshole, you are the asshole.
But Kelowna is a fucked-up place. Used to be a nice sleepy town in B.C. banana belt. Biggest industry was growing peaches. Now there are miles and miles of subdivisions filled with McMansions bought by escapees from Vancouver who sold out their vastly over-valued Vancouver home, and bought a huge one in Kelwona for half the price.

I think he is the Grand Master, he can fight the tactical battle very well, but his strategy seems to be a full five moves ahead of his opponents as well. The Dems, the GOPe, just keep walking into the kill zones almost as if he drives them there.
I suspect that Wray and Sessions are fully onboard with what the President is doing and are playing their parts. Rather than acting as the third-world dictator, Trump has set the conditions for the truth to emerge and leaving no question as to the appropriateness and legality of Wray and Sessions perp-walking a few folks. Especially, a less than clever, former president.

427 Lots and lots of legislativese words there, but this looks promising:

"The Attorney General, in consultation with the Director of National Intelligence, shall adopt querying procedures consistent with the requirements of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States for information collected pursuant to an authorization under subsection (a)."

So they think they will abide by the Constitution now?
Assholes, all.
