Veterans Group: The Dirty NFL Censored Our Stand-for-the-Flag Ad

Of course they did.

AMVETS officials are decrying "corporate censorship" from the National Football League for their decision not to run an ad in their Super Bowl program which responds to league players’ decision to kneel for the national anthem in protest of national equality issues.

The ad, which would have cost the veterans organization $30,000, features the tag "#PleaseStand" with a picture of service members saluting the American flag and information on how to donate to the congressionally-chartered organization.

Group leaders said NFL officials refused to include the ad in their Super Bowl publication, but did not issue a reason why.

The NFL claims it doesn't permit ads that could be interpreted as making a political statement.

Oh, sure, the NFL totally doesn't want political statements during its games. That's why it's permitted a year and a half of National Anthem protests, I guess.

Rachel Campos-Duffy says the NFL will pay a price for this.

This is what the NFL has done: They've actually made standing for our flag, honoring our heroes and veterans, something political," Campos-Duffy said on "America's Newsroom."

...

She argued that many NFL fans disagreed with players refusing to stand for the anthem all season, but they justified it as free speech and continued tuning in to games.

This "censorship" of a veterans organization, however, is a different story, she said.

"I think this is the final straw for a lot of football fans," Campos-Duffy said. "I think that the NFL's going to pay a price for this."

BTW, the Pats-Jaguars game, which was very competitive (the Pats only went ahead of the Jags with like 2:48 to go), was the lowest-rated championship game since 2013.

There was also a 2.9 ratings point drop in the Philly-Minny game, compared to the late game of last year.

I blame the declining interest in the NFL -- which people once actually thought was a "patriotic" brand that supported traditionalist sentiments -- on RUSSIAN BOTS.

All stories I don't like can be explained away by the conspiracy theory of RUSSIAN BOTS, which is an educated, enlightened conspiracy theory, because my liberal pals say it's a good conspiracy theory to believe in.

Conservative conspiracy theories, on the other hand, are uncouth, ill-mannered, uneducated, and racist.

But I'm totally a conservative. I just think conservatives are vicious retarded animals, and liberals are well-intentioned people with lots and lots of credibility.

Isn't it obvious that my political sympathies lie with the people I routinely bait, troll, and straight-up insult?

PS, please consider my blogposts to be an extended job application to the Daily Beast. Or Newsweek. Somewhere that understands that the stupid inbred conspiracy theories of conservatives need to be stamped out and replaced with the superior conspiracy theories of my liberal Twitter Palz.

21 And here I was thinking the NFL was saved by having two high profile teams make the SB. Now they are going into the game anti-anthem. If they were really smart, they would have told this group the ad was free and made a big support of it. But SJW gotta SJW.

It's a good question. The following two facts come to mind:
1. The NFL Players are in large proportion African American, much more than the population as a whole.
2. Said ethnic group has been taught Leftist Indoctrination Politics en masse. In fact, one of the Communist Berkeley professors, Harry Edwards, actually had (still has?) a counseling/teaching/coaching position on the San Francisco 49ers staff. Which probably explains Kaepernick.

Perhaps the NFL decided to appease its indoctrinated talent and assume the general public would not notice?

Perhaps, as "box office poison" led to blacklisting with Commiewood entertainers, perhaps "Stadium and viewer poison", could lead to a purging of the NFL?

I cannot boycott the Super Bowl, because I have never been a fan. I have watched the odd one, basically on the premise of, "well, it's way to pass some time". And that is true of any sport games on TV. It's entertainment, and it has its place. Except, of course, basketball and soccer. Not sports.

But the only way I could give the NFL less money than I already give them would be to break into their office and rifle the till.

But IIRC that's not the only way they establish ratings, I believe there were several other variables they look at and take into consideration.

I mean, having gay people kiss, over and over, that is just good a-political common sense.

And yeah, I don't care about gay marriage, or gay people kissing. Whatever. Do your business. I do resent having to watch endless government-sponsored advertisements promoting gay lifestyles. And I'm sure the audience for the NFL appreciates being lectured to on that issue. Anti patriotism and pro-homosexuality. Why that sums up the NFL demographic perfectly.

Posted by: Roc Ingersol at January 23, 2018 01:55 PM (zoyKY)

I'm really happy for him. He's playing his heart out and the Tennis Channel crew had a really good discussion yesterday about the finances of this. Basically, he'll get enough prize money just for making the quarters to finance the rest of the year and the rankings bump will get him into other tourneys without qualifying which, in turn, will give him more seed money. It's a life changing run.

He's hilarious discussing his name. It was his great-grandfather's name and he said in an interview recently that when he goes to get coffee or something he just says his name is Tom or David or anything like that because he just doesn't want to explain it.

I tuned in this morning just in time to see Rafa retire. I can't imagine how much pain it must have taken to get Rafa to retire in a Slam.

Tonight's matches should be interesting. Sandgren is playing Chung who is really cementing his Next Gen status. I love that Chung started playing tennis when he was six because his doctor thought it would help his eyesight.

Berdych has a decentish chance to beat Federer though not a great one. Fed is looking like the hands down favorite to win unless he gets injured.

THIS.

The part I don't get is why the players have so much clout. Each owner could go into the local ghetto and probably replace his team with players who are almost as good. And for viewership, the important thing is how closely teams are matched, not how good they are in an absolute sense. See, e.g., college football.

427 "The NFL claims it doesn't permit ads that could be interpreted as making a political statement."

So saying "Please Stand" is a political statement?

Okay then, does that mean that in every NFL stadium across the country, before every NFL game, when the stadium announcer asks everyone to "Please Stand" before the singing of the National Anthem, the announcer is making a "political statement"?

I must have missed it, but did the NFL ask all NFL teams to ask tell their announcers to stop asking people to "Please Stand" before the singing of the National Anthem before NFL games any time this season???

No, it really isn't.
Sure, a tiny minority starts the thing, just as a tiny minority starts the idiocy and intolerance on college campuses. But it's the failure of the administration, the supposed adults in the room, that lets the fire get out of control.

This would have been over at week one had the NFL (or individual owners) cracked down at the outset.

Oh for Pete's sake he wasn't part of the FBI until well after the criminality started.Maybe he can't in good conscience defend the FBI so he's stepping down.

518 Seriously, filling that position with lawyercrats has been a mistake, IMO.

Yeah you're probably right. A top cop, someone you can trust. Not Sheriff Moose or that idiot from Ferguson, someone solid and capable, who has zero tolerance for injustice and is without mercy.

All stories I don't like can be explained away by the conspiracy
theory of RUSSIAN BOTS, which is an educated, enlightened conspiracy
theory, because my liberal pals say it's a good conspiracy theory to
believe in.

Conservative conspiracy theories, on the other hand, are uncouth, ill-mannered, uneducated, and racist.

But I'm totally a conservative. I just think conservatives are
vicious retarded animals, and liberals are well-intentioned people with
lots and lots of credibility.

Isn't it obvious that my political sympathies lie with the people I routinely bait, troll, and straight-up insult?

PS, please consider my blogposts to be an extended job application to
the Daily Beast. Or Newsweek. Somewhere that understands that the
stupid inbred conspiracy theories of conservatives need to be stamped
out and replaced with the superior conspiracy theories of my liberal
Twitter Palz.

Hot Air use to be my "go to" site during the Obama years until they decided to eliminate the comment section. It was really fun back then. *sigh*
I even remember when Rick Perry didn't get the name right and called in Hot Gas... which is now what it has become.

522 I love the Olympics. I love football. I have sworn off of football to no ill effect, and given that I have always been a fan of Lindsay Vaughn and have been impressed with her work ethic and have grunted through every turn that I have ever watched her make coming down the chute, it breaks my heart that the dumb bitch has alienated me to her. I may have to leave the TV off for 10 days in February.

Excellent parody, ace. Once again had me guffawing out loud.

I have not watched a single NFL game this year. I will not be watching the super bowl. And I'm a big admirer of Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Imagine if the first flag-squatter had not been a recently benched Krapernick but instead had been some lowly team-towel-boy.
The NFL would have canned his ass right off the bat and if had generated any kind of public controversy the NFL would have probably followed up with a statement off apology to the fans.

530 The declining ratings are a fact, but the reason behind them is more nebulous. While I don't doubt some people were turned off by the protests, you'd be surprised by the willingness to tolerate it among many thanks to what is still a great and entertaining sport to watch.

I think two other factors are hurting though:

1) The quality of the product might actually be declining or stagnant (what with all the commercials) at the same time the cost of the product is rising (cable packages going up, etc.).

2) Many are opting to cur their cable out in favor of new products like Netflix. They might still watch the product, but perhaps they go to a sports bar for a big game. Perhaps a good number of eyeballs are watching these games but not being tracked by Nielsen.

531 The NFL just keeps making it easier and easier to never watch another game.

I certainly won't.
