Matthews said on his Hardball show this week that though Democrats are giddy about potentially sweeping away Republican incumbents in the fall, a good year in 2018 does not mean Democrats can defeat the charismatic Trump if he remains on message about the booming economy and as disciplined as he was on Thursday.
President Trump rode a wave of discontent, but for 2020 I hope he rides a wave of solid economic growth, renewed faith in American Exceptionalism, and most of all America's trust in a man whose ideas are grand, but who also grew in his job. If DJT can learn from his missteps, he will indeed be very, very difficult to beat.

My health insurance for just me went up to almost $900 a month. I think I'm going to opt out and go with one of these, just in case of calamity. I'd really like to know if people have had success getting major medicals paid for with them, though. I can handle my annual medical costs; just want something less expensive to fall back on if something awful happens.

This is what I was told, but I think his aggressive non-conformism (which is why I think we got along) changed toward the end in terms of religion, or at least of a Divine Creator. It shows up in small ways in some of his last published writings.

I always wondered, as a result of his profligate spending, if he ever had to sell any of his children to settle wine and book debts. Also, he was such a disgustingly hard-edged political boss (with his hatchetman Madison) that even in his political greatness I just wondered what the other side of the story was, betting it was pretty ugly. Like with how he treated Adams, for example, and his pampleteering in secrecy against Adams for years.
Anyway, Hitchens wrote a beautiful, short, very balanced, biography of Jefferson, and I came away with a very different view of TJ.

Nope, sorry. Thomas Jefferson was a dick, personally and politically. A complete amoral jackhole. His only saving grace was his excellent writing ability and his complete understanding of the enlightenment ideals behind the American Revolution (which he wanted to exploit for his own political gain). I have read a lot on TJ ( although admittedly not Hitchens book) and studied his personal writings, papers and those closest to him.
But far be it from me to dismiss Hitchens out of hand ~ I'll read it and get back to you ~ but I very much doubt it will change my opinion.

Hitchens was someone I didn't trust on a number of subjects, but did like him when it came to Islam. On that, he was extremely reliable.
And he *really* hated fascism. Michael Totten, Christopher Hitchens, and one other guy (whose name escapes me) all went to Beirut. They were traveling through a Hezbollah neighborhood, and Hitchens almost got the three of them killed because he went berserk at the sight of a poster with a swastika and tore it down. The Hezbollah locals didn't like that one bit, and chased the three men back to their hotel.

Looks like there was a rocket launch Saturday night that I completely missed. A private company, Rocket Lab, successfully sent their Electron rocket into orbit from New Zealand carrying three tiny satellites. It was only Electron's second test flight, the first one having failed last May. Not too shabby!
I was dimly aware of their existence, but I had not been paying attention to Rocket Lab or Electron at all. This launch blindsided me. I spent all morning playing catch-up trying to educate myself.

Electron is one of the smallest rockets ever to achieve orbit. It's comparable to the Vanguard rocket from the 1950s, but is more efficient so it has a larger payload capacity.

Electron also employs some advanced technology. The rocket is mostly made of carbon fiber, its Rutherford engine uses electric motors instead of traditional turbopumps, and many parts are 3D printed.

It was at a time where Entwistle and Moon were considering leaving The Who and forming a new group with Page. That was the name they had discussed using because of the joke that you refer to. They ended up staying put and Page used the name.
Moon had already dabbled in leaving the group and had played on one song (Beck's Bolero) with Page, John Paul Jones, and Jeff Beck. John Paul Jones only played on the record because John Entwisle didn't show up for the session.

That video I linked was from the 90's I think. I've noticed he changes that solo slightly from performance to performance. That one is my fav. I love those strumming flourishes he does at the end. There are some interesting videos of him explaining how his playing style evolved out there also.

You may not have really understood it yet; it operates on multiple levels. The primary theological point that it was intended to make was an object lesson about the Chosen Race and that Gentiles. Everyone who isn't born a Jew, according to O.T. Law, is a gentile, and the gentiles are the "Prodigal Son" who turned his back on his father (God) and lived a life (lives) of licentiousness and sin.
The Jewish race is the Elder son, the one who stayed faithful and who are outraged when they are told the child(ren) who left their father's house are going to be welcomed back. The Father tells the eldest son, "be filled with joy! Those who were lost have been found!"
And here is where the eldest sons deeper sin comes in - the prodigal has repented, and has sworn to live a life in accordance with his fathers wishes from then on, but the Elder son is bitter, resentful, and has allowed the father's mercy to drive a wedge between the two of them.
The older son is envious, and he is proud, and the story ends with him refusing to come to the father's banquet because of his pride and anger. And the story ends without his repentance.
As bad as the prodigal sons sins were, the elder sons sin was far worse, because it was sin of the spirit, and not simply sin of the flesh.

That's the point I was trying to make: it's inherently subjective so there can't be a "best".
What I was going for is, the emotional impact of the solo should be more than "F'n awesome solo, dude!" The solo should (just for the sake of this discussion) reflect and/or compliment the lyrics; hence the no instrumental "rule". I think the examples I gave (and many of the examples others gave) accomplish this. Especially, IMO, Brothers in Arms and Comfortably Numb.
Anyway, I just thought it would be a fun topic, and the "rules" were not even really "guidelines", just a way to keep the Eagles and those other dirty Southern Rockers out of the discussion

Any time I reword a song I try to keep the original last word of every line, or at least a new word that rhymes with the original, because the original is burned into people's brains and leaving markers is a good thing. I've got a close friend who was part of a Metal Band a few years back.....(decided The Life wasn't for him and is a "regular" guy now)...
But, Absolutely LOVES Guitar........so, he's got this set up at his house, in his guitar Shrine, an Shrine it is....,.....where he can play songs and cut the lead guitars and play them himself.
He does a challenge for guests.....can you tell when he's playing, or when Yngwie (or any of the Greats) is playing......it's Incredible. Btw, Y'all can't tell.....he's that fuckin good. He chooses the "right" guitar according to songs/artists.......
My Man has a Gift an a Passion for Metal Guitar.....and practices an plays for the Joy of It.....not for fortune.
I respect his choice to be "a regular guy"......but I'm baffled by that choice.....He has the Talent to be WORLD CLASS, an yet is content to pursue perfection "alone"......Reason number 1 why I love him.
I'm blessed to see him in person.

After the front porch RAILINGS, I still have to replace the front porch STAIRS, and their RAILINGS, as well as design and fabricate solar charged LED lighted caps atop the four posts which anchor the stair railings.
To be followed by the demolition of the back "porch" (a tiny, insufficient structure providing only access to the back door of the house), with a proper, 13ft. x 16 ft. back DECK, replete with pergola roof and a fully equipped, outdoor kitchen.
He'd get quite the apprenticeship from those projects. Stuff him onto an airplane and fly him on down.
Alas, I won't be able to pay him wages for "labor". He'd have to serve as a "volunteer".
Hell, FEEDING him would likely bankrupt me altogether.

Spent 15 years of my life in a field I truly loved. But it was almost a 24/7 operation. Not one true vacation. When it came to an end, I hated everything associated with it for about 5 years. I would wake up panicking that I missed x deadline- but x no longer existed. I wouldn't talk about my work with others as I saw their opinions as ill-informed and totally incapable of understanding (that was then, not now).
Over the years, I was finally was able to look back with some sense of accomplishment- and did come around to enjoying my field again, just not as a business endeavor.
Another opportunity came up about 3 years ago in my same line of expertise. Went in pro-bono. Was very happy I was able to make a difference for some folks that really needed my expertise.

Just wanted to say a sincere thank you to the Ace of Spades website for not in anyway promoting the Flag-crapping NFL.

That raises an interesting question: If Barry does move to some foreign country with no extradition treaty to avoid any legal problems here, do we still have to provide SS protection to a former president who is now a fugitive on the run?
