Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Democrats Have the Votes to Shut Down GovernmentThe media is already downplaying this -- and claiming it's really Republicans' fault, anyway. The possibility of a government shutdown grew dramatically Thursday as House and Senate GOP leaders struggled to round up the votes to keep the government open past midnight Friday... Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) appears to have a serious problem. Senate Democrats said they're confident they have the votes to block the stop-gap spending bill that the House is taking up, according to two Democratic senators and a senior party aide. And top Senate Republicans are openly worried about the situation as they struggle to keep their own members in the fold.Democrats are about to shut down the government over a policy dispute -- something they portrayed as a cataclysmic threat to America's stability when Republicans did the same in 2014 -- and it's Mitch McConnell who has the problem? He has to appease the Democrats? Funny, the media didn't seem to think it was the Democrats' duty to repeal Obamacare as Republicans wanted in 2014. Why the flip-flop, media? Related thoughts from John Sexton, who questions Politico's framing in the same way I do. But i'm not copying, honest! -- This post has been in draft for hours. By the way, the House Freedom Caucus is now attempting their own gamesmaship in the House, saying they won't vote for the CR on the House side unless all of the FISA Abuse report is made public. Democrats, of course, are blocking that, while at the same time claiming they want "transparency." BTW: This report has now been cleared for reading by all Congressmen. As Byron York suggests, this is probably a step towards making it publicly available. One way or the other -- now that it's in 535 people's hands, plus their staff members cleared to read it, it's very very leakable. And I hear it's gonna be a doozy. I don't give a shit who they are, what they do, or where they came from. There's an added benefit to this. If/when the Democrats get back in power (please, God, no) and allow illegal immigration again, those contemplating will think twice, because they'd worry about getting deported by a later GOP Administration. It's kind of the inverse of the Democrats' effect on foreign policy. No one trusts our word, because at some point, they know they'll be sold down the river by a Democrat Administration. If you asked any DACA supporter if they would let an unknown person just come into their home and stay there eating their food and using their medical insurance , they would be lying if the answered anything other than no.
They of course would claim that this would not be anything like 'undocumented minors or adults' coming to America. They think food and medical benefits they use just appear for free. Posted by: Roc Ingersol at January 18, 2018 06:34 PM (2DOZq) 196

My grandmother was born here, but went back to Italy when she was 1 year old. Came back when she was in her late 20's with 2 kids, and pregnant with my father. No problem because I guess she was born her and had a dual citizenship thing. My grandfather on the other hand was born Italy, and it took him over a year to be able to come over, so he missed the birth of my father, and my grandmother held down the fort till he arrived.

The Dims, whether in control of the Congress at the time, or the White House, will cause a shutdown, and then, with the help of their wholly owned Commiecrat subsidiary, the Joseph Goebbels Memorial Ministry of Propaganda (aka the MSM), will blame the Repubs for it. Sexton is wrong in blaming PDT's comment for the dems fighting this.
That is just nonsense. The dems are fighting hard for immigration because they understand that PDT is right, and that once reality breaks though the debate, like the sun breaking through the clouds, they are in trouble. In the past, there was no one fighting with truth, so the dems could drag on the immigration issue until they got the destructive measures they wanted. Now PDT is saying "enough!", and he is right, and he has the public behind him. Blaming him for his language is like blaming reality for being harsh. How do you politely say what needs to be said and get that message to the public? "please sir, may I have another"? OT:
"The state's top cop issued a warning to California employers Thursday that businesses face legal repercussions, including fines up to $10,000, if they assist federal immigration authorities with a potential widespread immigration crackdown. "It's important, given these rumors that are out there, to let people know - more specifically today, employers - that if they voluntarily start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office," state Attorney General Xavier Becerra said at a news conference. "We will prosecute those who violate the law." So, California is going to start prosecuting employers who cooperate with Federal law enforcement. This is sedition, pure and simple. The state's top cop issued a warning to California employers
Thursday that businesses face legal repercussions, including fines up to $10,000, if they assist federal immigration authorities with a potential widespread immigration crackdown. "We will prosecute those who violate the law." These would be the same employers hiring illegal immigrants in the first place? The military and all gov. workers care very deeply about shutdowns.
Also many contractors who have to stop work, and furlough their *private* employees when the gov. oversight is not there. So shutdowns are a big deal, but mostly to people in DC, and people kicking back to their politicians for contracts. I feel terrible for anyone who is furloughed. The loss of income can often be harsh. I also understand that most people in the private sector face more risk every day. Gov. jobs are very very secure, and they also pay better, so occasional shutdowns are hard to get worked up over. Trump is the type of guy who would hold rallies in PA, OH, WI etc... when the government is shutdown demanding that Congress put the American people before illegal aliens. He could also do a circuit of the black churches too to ask how they like the low unemployment rate and whether they want to change that by importing more low wage workers for competition. And I bet Trump will find creative ways to punish the Dem constituencies or Congress itself. This is a golden opportunity if you are willing to take advantage of it. I wish PDT and the R's in Congress would start publicly calling the illegals what they are: Squatters. That term must not poll well nationwide, but I consider it the most accurate description. Let's do the one thing nobody has tried yet... letting democrats shut down the government over whatever nonsense issue that normal people don't care about.
It's a simple message - Democrats want to shut down the government over non citizens and they continue to put the wants of people who aren't even supposed to be here in front of the working American. If Democrats think this is blue wave territory in places like Wisconsin and PA - they got another thing coming Posted by: Reality Man at January 18, 2018 08:21 PM (Ch0fq) 588
