Elisabeth- (12/12/17) Chronic stress from my perpetually low income is worsening my known autoimmune problems and probably some that haven't yet been diagnosed, and I've just started my fifth course of antibiotics for a recurrent sinus infection and nothing I've tried to improve my income situation (finding a better job, asking for a raise, selling my work, finding cheaper housing) has worked. Plus, I need new glasses but can't afford the eye exam.

Physics Geek- (12/12/17) Both my mother and stepdad (divorced and not together) are suffering from dementia, with my stepfather's case being somewhat further along.
NoLongerInTheBellyoftheBeast- (12/18/17) I need to have prayers added to the list for a friend and cow-orker named Renee who just got diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I could also use prayers for myself. Major joint pain and long term major depression. And prayers for better finances to pay medical bills.
Johnny- (12/19/17) About a year and a half ago my wife divorced me. It was all very civil and amicable. Today she told me (texted me) that she is now engaged. This whole time, I've been torn up and depressed, of course, but, I don't know, maybe I was in denial or something, because when she told me that.. Gah. It's really over. That life that I was so excited about, will never come to pass.
Tone Staple- (12/19/17) For a relative with Pick's Disease, and for his family. Pick's Disease is a form of dementia that starts with gradual loss of language.
Arch Stanton- (12/19/17) My dad is recovering from having a pacemaker put in, and battling COPD.
Captain Whitebread- (12/19/17) I've had to go to the local hospital ER a couple of times since heart surgery because I was concerned I might be having more heart trouble. I didn't, but since I didn't have insurance, the bill was huge. I tried paying a little every month, but sometimes I missed because money is really tight.
Monday, I was served with a court summons. The collection agency working for the hospital is taking me to court. I owe $4500. I have no way of paying in full. I have to appear in court with the next 35 days. All I am asking from the Horde is prayers that a workable solution might be found. I am not asking for money; everyone has done more than enough after my heart surgery and when I almost had my electricity cut off a couple of years ago. I believe that with enough prayer, a way will reveal itself. At this time, I don't know what it is. But I believe there is one.
Ladyl- (12/20/17) My dad is back on Hopice and isn't doing great.
Anonymous- (12/19/17) ...Her family has to leave the R.V. park because her husband lost his job two months ago. He has a job prospect in Texas so he is going after it. There are 7 of them living in a 16 ft. trailer but the children are always clean and happy. She has been driving for Uber just to keep food on the table. She's scared about moving, trying to be normal for the kids, doesn't know what will happen if this job prospect doesn't work out. She's got such a good heart and is trying so hard, right now she feels a little desperate and tired.
Please pray for her and her family. I know how much it helps.
Anonymous- (12/22/17) A dear friend who survived cancer--twice--died unexpectedly Thursday night. Not from cancer. He was one of the kindest, sweetest people I've known. His widow is in shock, and sitting in their house looking at the tree they decorated together, and their gifts to each other under it.

JQ- (12/26/17) 'Twas an otherwise Merry Christmas, because it might be Dad's last, as he has advanced cancer. Dad (80s) is ambulatory but slowing down...

mpfs- (1/1/18 ) Mom was taken by ambulance yesterday afternoon to the hospital. Possible stroke. When they took her sugar last night it was... 759. Even the neurologist did a double take.

Ron- (1/2/18 ) Please pray for the family of Zack Parrish, the Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy who was slaughtered in an ambush in Highlands Ranch, CO on December 30. He was a true follower of Jesus Christ. Zack was 29. Please pray for his wife Gracie and the two little daughters he left.
rocketeer67- (1/2/18 ) Praying for strength to get through a totally unexpected, unforeseen and unwanted divorce from my wife of 20 years. Praying for understanding as to why she has asked for it. Prayers that her eyes would be opened to the hurt that this is causing everyone around her, even if we're all trying to accept it (with varying degrees of success moment by moment) with dignity, grace, and love. Most importantly, prayers for our young children, who while appearing to be bearing it better than expected are clearly (at least to me) not themselves.

AllenG- (1/9/18 ) None of my normal pith tonight. I desperately covet the prayers of the Horde. The 9 yr old son of one of my old HS/Church youth group friends wouldn't wake up this morning. They took him to the ER and an MRI found a mass in his brain. A first surgery to remove it was only partially successful, he still hasn't woken up, and he's been back I surgery for the lady couple of hours. His name is Brody Nelson. I grew up with his mom, Courtney. They and their family could really use a miracle right about now...
Gabe- (1/9/18 ) I have a couple of good friends, Patrick Porter and Barbie Turner who are both battling cancer. A petition to the almighty by the horde would be huge IMO.

sulla- (1/9/18 ) I'd ask to have my mother and sister-in-law added. My mother broke her shoulder this week, and my sister-in-law is recovering from a liver/kidney transplant.

It sure is a different world out there than the one I grew up in. Prayers would be so appreciated for my husband and for me, a full-time spouse caregiver. Thank you so much. Having been the recipient of this type surgery, I can say it's no walk in the park. I was in-hospital 2 weeks prior on IV Cipro drip (clear up infection prior to surgery). Got a great Barry White voice and learnt that all I had to do in order to get more food was mark 'x2' next to each item on the menu I got from Dietary. Thanx to the skill of my vascular surgeon, everything went well. First time I'd ever had an incision stapled, tho' ... I asked if he gave me 'O-grade' or 'EM' staples. He just laffed.

Best of luck to your MIL. I believe she'll do just fine. It's a fairly long surgery, and recovery's not great fun either, but eventually everything heals over and it's back to normal. Oh - they don't release anyone after this surgery 'til they prove they can evacuate the solids and liquids (knowhutimean?).

To everyone else on this list, my best wishes for a quick and favorable resolution ...

And the main reason for that is that if any attempt were made to enforce law and order, it would be denounced as racist. The liberals who say that we must help them make it impossible to help them.

Finally got an appointment to the VA hospital in Charleston, SC to have an MRI on his injured back, and see about his damaged knees and ankle.

Three hours from here round-trip and they saw him for his ankle, only. Told him he'd need individual appointments for his back and knees.

His ankle is damaged (doctor said it "shouldn't be making that clicking noise--have you been referred to a physical therapist?"--answer: No).

Anyhow, he's going to have to juggle classes and travel back and forth to finally, after THREE YEARS get answers and treatments for his injuries.

Some very good ones. I did a tour of Western Cape wineries which is in the Cape Town area. Ernie Els has a very cool winery by the way.

The reason you find mostly whites running wineries is the same reason you find whites running wineries everywhere including here in the US, the wineries were mostly started by European immigrants who brought the tradition and knowledge with them.

Fen, you are always so good about giving people the benefit of the doubt (which beats by cynicism). FWIW, I have read stories about how unpleasantly Chelsea behaves at work at CGI, indicating she may have inherited Hillary's attitude/way of treating underlings poorly. I seem to recall reading that Chelsea expected and received special treatment while working at NBC, too. Having grown up in the spotlight and with her particular parents, she may not know there is another way to behave?

We didn't have a single problem. Spent time in Cape Town, the wine region, and the Sabi wildlife preserves on the Eastern Coast. The local people were incredibly warm and friendly. Scariest locals were the baboons that would try to break into your hotel room in the countryside.

The Western Cape is, not coincidentally, the only region of the country not run by the ANC. And yes, the game parks are beautiful and safe but that is kind of like going to Jamaica and never leaving your resort.

Joburg is a completely different animal and it has gone from relatively safe to are you fucking nuts if you leave your hotel after dark unescorted. Last time I was there 3 years ago I stayed at a very nice and completely walled and patrolled hotel right in the middle of the city. Beautiful garden bar with a nice pool to sit and have drinks and listen to the not so distant gunfire every single night.

I love South Africa because of the natural beauty and the game parks and yes there are many friendly locals but there is also an increasingly large number of not so friendlies and the trends are not good.

A while ago, I read a really racist screed (because everything is racist) from I think an anthropologist that said that Africans who live in Africa, are, as a race, developmentally arrested insofar that you have to explain why things like "rape" are bad. He seemed to think a lot of it was because of the physical nature of sub-Saharan Africa. Climate? Not a challenge. Food? Everywhere.

The basic idea was that because life is so easy for Africans in terms of climate that they never had to learn to build solid houses, or boats or even figure out how to make "clothes."

It was an interesting take on things.

One problem is that he probably didn't, which makes it all even funnier. Some (D) coffee-fetcher makes a claim, other people in the meeting (that happened months ago IIRC) said they don't remember that happening, and it's off to the sh*thole races and the entire world/media goes off on it for a week.

I think they keep discounting Trump's Midas touch, though, because most Americans agree with the sh*thole sentiment. People might not stand up and cheer about it in mixed company, but I'd bet two out of three folks think that, if you are prone to cursing like many grownups are, the word "sh*thole" is the proper word behind closed doors.

Everybody agrees these places are awful, everyone knows exactly what he's talking about, and all of them nod inside when they hear it, but have to make noises as if they are offended because you can't say that in public today.

I think there's a lot to that, plus the fact that life tends to be short and end brutally so your perspective is skewed. Between disease, poisonous creatures, and huge lethal predators (pretty much wiped out everywhere civilization grew) your chances of dying horribly are pretty high. So the sanctity and meaning of life tends to suffer.

But for most of Africa, there's been zero Christian influence, despite strong efforts of missionaries, and that cultural factor is pretty important as well.

No, wasn't the Saxon. This was a business trip and that was a bit pricey for that event. It was still very nice but cheap because South Africa but it had the same armed guards checking you in and discouraging you from leaving after dark.

Yes, lots of the problem is immigration from other African countries but not all of it. The biggest problem is the ANC and their campaign of payback, cronyism and corruption that is tearing the country apart.

My old customer had two partners running the business. One has stayed and lives with his family behind a walled and barbed wire compound along with every other middle class family in the neighborhood. The other partner's wife told him that he was welcome to stay in SA but she was leaving for Australia asap with the kids. He went with her and left the business to his partner.

This idea is actually a few centuries old, and was very popular during the European Colonial period. The basic theory (originally) was that the people who live in colder climates had to build civilizations to survive, while those in tropical climates had no need.

There's actually a lot of ways to invalidate this. How come civilization originally arose in warm climates like Egypt, Sumer, and Greece? Not to mention southern China. How come the Eskimo never developed an advanced civilisation, nor did the Mongolians?

It's culture, not climate, that does it.

So, perhaps in Wm BJ Clintonese no "Clinton Foundation funds" were (directly) used before being siphoned off to him personally via layers of fake employees and intermediaries, and except for consideration of all the funds used for years to pay for their staff, travel, lifestyle and political campaigns, all looted from the Clinton Foundation, freeing up a bit of coin on the "personal side" of the ledger.

And after the carefully parsed "defense" comes the high moral dudgeon, almost like wagging a disapproving finger at us....
