Tucker Carlson Rips Trump For Saying He "Trusts" Democrats on Immigration and Would Sign Any Immigration Bill That's Put Before Him

Good shot-across-the-bow from Tucker Carlson.

"It was a weird scene in Washington today," Carlson began. "President Trump, you'll remember, ran for office promising to fix immigration, make good deals and in general do a better job than the corrupt incompetent lawmakers he said were wrecking the country. And he was right, they were wrecking the country."
"And yet today in a remarkable twist, the president held a televised meeting with the very swamp creatures he once denounced," he explained. "He told them he trusted them to craft immigration policy without his input."
"Then he suggested he'd be willing to accept any deal they produce even a bad one," Carlson said, clearly displeased.

"At one point the president agreed with Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California that it would be wise to handle the question of DACA separately before negotiating any meaningful reform of our broken and dysfunctional immigration system," he added.
"Key allies very close to the president on immigration told us this afternoon they were shocked by what they saw in that meeting," Carlson continued. "It was a completely different Donald Trump from the one we watched on the campaign trail just two years ago."
"These are the same people the president now says he trusts to write the immigration bill," he added, "the one he’ll sign no matter what it says."
"So what was the point of running for president?" Carlson asked rhetorically.

I often worry about Trump making some deal with Nancy and Chuck on immigration before; so far, he hasn't. But he keeps talking like he can/will at any moment.

I think Steve Bannon might have counterbalanced the open-borders RINOs in Trump's circle on this point; with Bannon gone, who knows who has Trump's ear.

Now I can see explanations for why Trump sounds dovish here:

For one thing, he clearly didn't know what Dianne Feinstein meant by a "clean bill" on DACA. He thought it meant "not containing anything irrelevant to the topic of immigration," like the debt celing or whatever. She meant just give us DACA and no border security, no wall, no etc.

Another reason for talking about a "bill of love" or whatever is, possibly, tactical. The Democrats are ginning themselves up to shut the government down to win their Replacement Population ideal of DACA with no wall and no increased enforcement. (And I can't wait to watch the media do a complete 180 on government shutdowns-- now they're good and noble!)

The Democrats also seem to be thinking about refusing to pass needed spending authorizations for the military.

Given that circumstance, I could see Trump (to the extent one imputes forethought to him at all) preparing the battlespace to make himself seem to be the reasonable one, open to fair compromise, and the Democrats as the intransigent Replacement Population zealots.

Still, I do have big worries. DACA is bad enough, but to get DACA and no concessions as far as chain migration, the Visa lottery, the wall, etc.? That would be total capitulation -- and, as Tucker Carlson says, the Democrats would have absolutely no incentive whatsoever to negotiate on those topics again.

One small thing I find amusement in, though, is the NeverTrump cucks who are open-borders types laughing that now Trump is going to screw us dummies over.

Well, okay, maybe, but if he does: Isn't that exactly what the Corporate "Conservative" class was promising anyway? Wasn't that their exact plan if they foisted Low-Energy Jeb or Little Marco on us?

They seem to be whining: If we were going to have DACA, like we always wanted, we might has well have had Maaaarco doing it!

Ah, but I disagree: If I'm going to lose, why shouldn't the cucks lose, too? Why shouldn't they be miserable? Why should they get to keep fucking over the rest of the party and getting to remain in the cat-bird seat?

So honestly, if we're going to get fucked over with DACA, I'd rather it be with Senator Little Marco, just because it upsets the crybaby Butthurt Battallion so much.

Maybe next time 'round you'll bother listening to the concerns and complaints of Republicans who don't live inside of DC, and whose money doesn't come from donations from the hinterlands or billionaire's play-money accounts.

That said, if Trump sells us out on this, I'm mostly off the team.

I think Trump is smart enough to know that if he caves on this, he's done. And I think Republicans are smart enough to know that 2018 will be a bloodbath if they give the store away to Dems on this as well. So they won't outright cave. I also think Trump and the GOPe will fall for some sort of "future border security" in exchange for instant amnesty bullshit deal. The GOP is Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. They know damn well Lucy will yank it away, but they just can't help themselves. And Trump just wants a deal and he figures, well we get "border security" so that will make the rubes happy, fuck it, we have a deal.

So what we end up with is instant citizenship for "the kids" (who are 40 years old in some cases), an extra 500 ICE agents to be hired in 2019, a few drones on the border and funding for 100 miles of a "barrier" to be built in 2020, with a promise to build the other 1500 miles of "barrier" sometime in 202never.

Trump is going to do a lot of things we like. He is also likely to do some things we don't like. However, on balance, he does things that he feels help this country be everything it can be, without running it down or bowing to enemies or giving away the farm. I don't think we can hold him to a higher standard than we held Reagan, can we?

He isn't going to give the country away to the commies, so sit tight and see where this goes.

My guess is that this is just negotiation, its how he deals with people. His bombastic, goofy public persona is just that; its his image. In person he is supposedly really affable, charming, and effective. And this is part of getting people to go along with what you want.

The Left's argument is nonesense - we need these people to do out jobs and pay our taxes, and we want the ones who are on the dole.

This is an easy argument to refute, and it would eliminate 60% of daca. But no one in DC makes it. The libertarians have a couple voices in DC, and the media, but those assholes want anarchy. Where are the sane voices arguing for even what they have in Europe, with limitations of benefits and no chain migration?

I've been REALLY happy with Trump, but I approach everyone with suspicion. See Bannon for an example.

I unfortunately think Trump believes he was elected for other reasons like his deal making ability and success.

He might view this as his "Nixon Goes To China" moment. And the wrong people may have his ear.

Let's be honest, until he ran for President in 2016 (Trump had been sort of running for President since like the late 80's) he had never really said a word about cracking down on illegal immigration. In fact, he criticized Romney for being too harsh on illegal immigrants with self-deportation.

Only way to block this would be for the "deal" to make "dreamers" non-immigrant visa holders, in perpetuity. Just applying the requirements from the old, illegal DACA EO should in fact reduce the numbers substantially, if commentary from knowledgeable immigration types is correct. Don't even have to add new limits.

But this is the only train in the station, in terms of leverage for Trump to force Dems to agree to his big immigration items. That's why I say load up the table with demands, politicize and popularize them, don't settle for less than a lopsided win on any DACA deal, and continue to push the rest. And any DACA deal must be phased, and slaved to milestones in barrier construction, full implementation of new policies, etc. All of Trump's demands up front, DACA in phases, later.

238 Tuesday's TV thing was just that, TV thing. Trump had to make it appear - since he's the one that ended DACA - that he wanted congress to do it's job and it's his job to lead them.

I think he knows that if he signs "anything" presented to him, it will mean one of two things:

1 - he got what he wanted (wall, end chain immigration visa lotter) or;
2 - squish Rs went the Ds. In this case, he says I tried and you need to vote these guys out because Trump will be around another 2 years and if you want comprehensive immigration, then give me folks who will do what I want.

His comment on the wall, i.e., "where it's possible" is an attempt to show he understands the issue. It's a throwaway line to seem reasonable.

But more importantly, it shows the country that no matter what Mueller is horse shitting today, Trump is still in charge and has all the power of the presidency.

Trump very well may want to be liked the glitter elites, but he understands that they only like him when he does what they want AND he doesn't want to go down in history as the guy who backed out of his biggest campaign promise only to screw his base. It's the latter of these two that will keep Trump from folding like a cheap suit.

Its akin to their treatment of all minorities, and partly why they despise Asians. They can't abuse and take advantage of Asians on the whole, they aren't useful mascots to show virtue or dependable voters. The left generally likes minorities as a theoretical thing, the noble savage they don't have to actually associate with, but not actually in person as friends or co workers.

That's not universal of course. But often true with white urbanite lefties in gated communities with only the gardener and nanny to interact with.

It was all process, not substance but it puts pressure on the Dems to deal now that he has modeled the virtue of dealing.

It seems like there's more to him than he lets on.

He's surprised me, before--and I'm don't just mean in gadget ways, but in substantive ways.

Whenever you dread what he's going to do, it might be that part in action.

I think Rush is right. Don't take Trump literally. He's going to say what he needs to maneuver--even if that's something you wish he hadn't said. And who knows, maybe he'll be right.

Trump, regardless of what he will do, was STILL the best chance to get a wall.

(TV shows use a LOT of makeup) I doubt that's her actual hair. Seriously, her physical condition made me question her mental health. -The US (as I do ) donates to many third world countries to help children.
-Trainloads of 'unaccompanied' minors (including some over 18 yo) streamed into the country and were bused to undisclosed locations within the US by the Obama administration..
- Trump did recently sign an EO to stop human trafficking in the US...
-Many children have spent some years in the US and really have no home to go back to if deported. (much like former residents of Detroit)
- Trump has named DACA an "Act of Love"...
-Trump maintains his stance on chain immigration, deporting criminal illegal immigrants, building the wall ect... I don't know hot it happened but many illegals are even veterans???

Yes, deal making is an art and it's Trump's table and it's Trump's deal, and he's clearing the table and openly stating that he's willing to negotiate anything in good faith.

He's placing the onus on Congress to bring something totes "reasonable" and not too "insane" to the table, - but this won't happen and he's counting on it. This is because they're all political scum with shit-tons of political baggage and a lust for chicanery.

They will leave Trump with no choice but to assume the dominate stance and negotiate accordingly. "Hmm, and we need to get shit done now, so will it be bullshit legislation or executive order?" Nobody in Congress will be able to say they weren't given an opportunity to act nor a fair shake.

Republicans - well the wall was a promise and while Daca kids was to, I think Trump survives his base if he gets a wall with chain migration - especially with a roaring economy.

He downlplayed "security" yesterday - left it vague for a reason, because when he loads it up the dems will scoff and leave the table - and they will look unreasonable and crazy - fighting for what... no wall? It will be crystal clear at that point... Trump was willing to deal, willing to take care of the the Daca kids - just wanted to protect the country - and democrats said no.

I don't think that's what he said. I don't think he ever said he would have no input. He only said he would sign whatever was produced. I took that to mean he would have a LOT of input.

Trump is fighting a two-front war here. First, he destroys the false narrative that he is an idiot. Clearly, he is directing the discussions and making his expectations clear. Second, he IS putting forth the image of the person open to compromise; DACA for the wall (which all those bitching Democrats are already on record as supporting). Trump is hearing the opposing views and offering them this for that... if they turn it down, thinking THEY still dictate terms, it will cost them.
