EMT 1/6/18 A Country Song New Year edition

So, last Sunday my dog died.

Tuesday as a consequence of my company's "merger" (read: hostile takeover that my old CEO got completely rolled on and that our company very literally paid for before the new BOD voted him out) I got laid off from a job I managed to hold for 12 years.

I should really try to drum up some depression.

But you know what? Fuck it, that's what.

I've got a screamin' economy and a good severance package which will allow me to look for a better paying job in said screamin' economy without needing to dip into cash reserves for several months.

I'm good at what I do. I'll abide.

I do miss that dog something awful though.

1 Good Morning Morons; today is Saturday, January 6, 2018. On this day in 1941 FDR delivered his infamous socialist Four Freedoms speech in the State of the Union address.

Specifically those were:

Freedom of speech

Freedom from fear

2 Trump is asking congress for $18B over the next ten years to build the border wall with Mexico. Will he get it? Probably not. And Democraps are back to calling for DACA amnesty or they will shutdown the government. I have to see just how they plan to do that.

The economy sure seems to be stronger. I actually went to a mall recently. First time since probably the Reagan/Bush years. What a difference. A lot more 'upscale' stores where I saw not one customer. The 'family' oriented stores were full of customers and the prices were actually quite competitive with on-line vendors.

30 freedom of religion/speech ... those liberties don't cost other people anything.

freedom FROM want ... I guess that is the commie influence on FDR. "Want" doesn't exactly chase people around and steal from them. An act of individual will fulfills personal wants and needs.

But FDR decided government should supply those things I guess. He surely stated it more eloquently, but it hardly seems constitutional.

Freedom from fear, by killing all the fascists/statists? Or by authoritarian control over society like China?

at this point even illegal aliens get health care and other welfare, and mostly no deportation. But at what cost to the American citizen that was promised "if you like your heritage you can keep your heritage"?

For the poor, deprived non-Magyar speakers, JJ told me "F*ck you" as he learned it from momma.

The automatic response from me in Hungarian would involve JJ's mama, so I won't do it. And I know better than to get into a Yiddish cussing match with a master.

My own mama has only started cussing (a lot) now that she's pushing 80. Didn't ever hear it when my father was alive.

Aside from his qualifications, Chris Adams would be the perfect Trump choice. As you and everyone may recall, he had a slam dunk case of voter intimidation against the New Black Panthers which Eric Holder refused to prosecute, for obvious reasons.

Hiring Adams would be a major kick in ovaries to SCOAMF and Scolder. First up on Adams list would be to ransack the Civil Rights Division.

Malls have been "outrageous" since 1990... lol.

The rent to occupy a mall spot has been Out of Whack since 1993.

$2,000/Mo. for 800 sq. ft?!?

Plus $200/Mo. for insurance.

Plus... Well, you get it.

I will attempt a translation for the Urban Dictionary:

" The Urban or colloquial term 'az anya pitchaya' is generally considered to mean that an individual of unspecified ethnic derivation may or may not have had a progenitor who at some time may have identified as female with or without certain biological features that may or may not be associated with the Carpathian anthropocentric cultural concept of "szop meg".

54 still bugs me that K-Mart (that had gone bankrupt) was able to buy Sears (that was asset heavy, in real-estate especially I guess). They are both in trouble, but both still open here.

Also bugs me that manipulated low interest rates for 25+ years allowed companies like Amazon to drive others out of business while they lost money for 20 years. Amazon still barely makes a profit, but they have "stock mania" assets out the wazoo.

And when the hedge fund players get burned they get bailed out, so they can live to leverage 50:1 another day and become our oligarch overlords. Paper money printed by "banks" via leverage. I'm not sure where it ends ...

1 Good Morning Morons; today is Saturday, January 6, 2018. On this day in 1941 FDR delivered his infamous socialist Four Freedoms speech in the State of the Union address.

Ah, yes, the jumping off point for the JEF to assert that the Constitution was replete with negative rights (stuff the gubmint may not do) rather than his fondly desired positive rights (stuff the gubmint must do for an individual).

How I loathe that man, his ideas and the sway they hold over far too many of our fellow citizens.

Even after three decades in the radio business, there are still songs that move me. Some we play -- a lot -- and some aren't well known to the general public.

It's one reason I got into this weird, weird business. Someone -- maybe Wolfman Jack -- once said that most radio DJs are "frustrated musicians". I think that's me. When I was younger, I was too shy to sing anything in public. Now I sometimes wish I'd been brave enough to join even a cover band. Surely there's some group who can use a barely-50 lead singer.

161 krakatoa:

Sorry about your dog. We had to euthanize our 17 year old calico cat the week before Christmas. She was my little buddy and I miss her. However, I am convinced that our pets do have souls and we will be reunited with our loved ones in Heaven.

Good luck on the job hunt. I think we are on the verge of an economic boom that may very well dwarf what we experienced with President Reagan: there is more pent-up energy after 8 years of purposeful suppression of the marketplace under the misrule of Preezy Captain Utopia than the 4 years under President Carter. Carter may have been weak and vacillating but he didn't hate America during his time in office (that and the Jew-hate came later, after he had been repudiated by the American people).

Look at this as an opportunity to get out of a rut and re-evaluate what you want to do for a living. That's what I did and ultimately found the best job I have ever had (and I'm quite a bit older than 29!).

---

Jeez. Will he get f*cking $18 billion? Probably not, while realizing that Obama got, and continued to get, his nearly $1 trillion "stimulus" every single year, year after year, after the official stimulus was granted in 2009 or so.

Ever wonder why there were constant continuing resolutions instead of passing a budget?

That's a big part of of.

And Trump won't get $18B.

Ultimately manipulated by the Farsi Ferret who detected a damaged soul and always lied about how brilliant the pedestrian dolt was to accomplish her subversive agenda. As others have pointed out, he was as lazy as a summer day is hot and would rather watch Sportcenter all fucking day than destroy the country. With a complicit GOPe driven by the Gas Chamber of Crony Capitalism he could've easily legislatively put the country in the shitter almost permanently. Instead like a simple punk it was much more attractive for him to be as in your face as he could be and ruled through easily reversed executive orders and subsequently DJT has turned his eight years of shit into a vague memory in less than a year.

My painting technique has changed over the years. I still have figures I painted in high school back in the late 1970s and I used a wash over white primer. Now, I tend to use a dark primer and dry-brush the uniform colors: close-up the shadowing is exaggerated, but looks pretty good when you view them from several feet away on the table top.

Currently, I have been building a bunch of German HO, N and Z scale model building kits. The kits are intended for use by the model railroad hobbyist but I had run into an old college buddy at a wargame convention this last Fall and he was using some of these German kits for his game; he had gone Regular Army and spent a lot of time in Germany. The kits look great for any period ranging from the mid-1600s to moderns and I was jealous.

The HO kits are for my 25mm Seven Years War, the N kits are for my 15mm Napoleonics and the Z kits are for my 10mm WWII figures.

I don't do model railroading; I do miniature wargaming but have been building some model railroad buildings for my gaming table. Since I have been very interested in military history, I find that the wargaming acts a bit like a time-machine. The wargame models some of the limitations and capabilities of the troops available to the commanders and can give a better appreciation for the decisions made.

I'm glad you have found memories of your Grandfather; mine loved to fish and I, too, have good memories being with him while we fished. I haven't picked up a fishing pole since he died.

237 I'm seriously beginning to get pissed about all these stories coming out from that stupid fucking book. Trump is drooling imbecile who can't read, chases everything in a skirt, treats Melania like shit and really didn't want to win. Surrounds himself with women because they are more loyal. Let's see, what did I leave out? Grrrr... I want to strangle that pussy Wolff.

The Horde solution to border control is clear:

1-Devious Uncle P organizes armoured trains along the border.

2-Slap gets a 50 year concession to run big trains.

3-AOP organizes the necessary infrastructure and support services (Skip does first shift)

4-Publius tells us if we are doing it right; then Kindltot, and Political Hat and anyone who wants to argues, and then buys us beer.

5-Bluebell and Weasel make we get fed something decent

6-Insomniac, like New York, never sleeps, so don't think you v=can slack off

7-PROFIT!!!

240 former Cleveland Cavaliers announcer Joe Tait almost died walking railroad tracks

How'd that happen? When I was in college I worked Summers at a B&O freight yard in southwest Baltimore. My first day there they warned me never to walk on the tracks, especially at night, because of how quiet rolling cars could be. Inside I was rolling my eyes and speculating on how much hard drinking it took to not hear 20 tons on the move. But I wasn't a complete idiot and knew to stay between the tracks anyway. One night, not long after that, I was working the midnight shift and walking between tracks when something seemed unusual even though I couldn't actually hear anything. I shined my lantern a bit forward and to the side and there was a rolling empty flatcar as quiet as a tomb. My impression of the guys advising me got a quick upgrade.

I would think it would be somewhat difficult to go to the Wharton school and run a successful business without being able to read, and had Trump not wanted to win he would have conducted a campaign like losers Romney and McCain. Trump having divorced wives before I'm sure had he treated her badly she could have gotten a nice settlement and a divorce. None of his wives have said he treated them badly-except for the cheating I mean. Don't get pissed. laugh at it. The author basically admits most of it was made up. leftists can have their little chew toy. Does anyone who voted for Trump seriously think he's an imbecile?

244 @Krakatoa...if you're in construction and don't mind traveling and being away from home for weeks at a time, the company I work for is hiring big time. Even if you just have basic skills. We have more work than people to do it right now. Drop me a line if interested at milegu199 @ Gmail dot com.

And sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it is to get over losing a close friend like that.

247 Krakatoa, I've found there's only one cure for the dog-died sads. Adopt a new one STAT. It's not disrespecting the old guy or gal, it's proving your love and gratitude for man's best friend. Just know, you're going to hate the new one for a little while until it learns the ropes, but within a few months you'll be in sync.

As for jobs, pffft. I've had my share, at age 59. I have a good one now, but if it ended tomorrow, I'd just go get another. My kids are raised and put through college, and we have little debt to worry about. Just keep on, and don't sweat it too much -- there's a job out there with your name on it, that you can't avoid even if you want to.

248 Sorry to hear about your dog. In one day my dog treed a bald eagle and crashed through the ice in a frozen pond, patiently waiting for me to wade in and rescue her.

249 My condolences on your loss. I lost my Samoyed more than a decade ago and I still miss him. Please let us know how long it takes before you secure your new position. I know the economy is thriving because I see so much activity around me that was dormant during the Obama years, but I do no trust the economic numbers being reported. Good Luck!

258 From my own experience, you'll miss the dog. And maybe you will miss the old job (I did). But you won't miss the old CEO---in my case, may he rot in hell. But occasionally a "specimen" will float to the top of the bowl and become CEO--and then all below will suffer. These clowns just turn a company into a large slow target.

Posted by: Acme Trucking Enterprises, White Truck Division at January 06, 2018 06:12 AM (2FqvZ)

I used to order from Amazon without looking at the price, but in the last six or seven years it's almost always the case you can find whatever it is cheaper somewhere else. For me the big draw on Amazon now is the convenience.

260 Sorry to hear about your dog. We lost ours on Wednesday. He was 15 1/2. We adopted him 14 1/2 years ago. Was with us through so much. The sadness comes in waves and I just let it out when it hits me, which seems to help.

I also lost my job earlier in 2017 but luckily found a new one a few months later.

Good luck with your search and your healing.

261 Sorry about your dog man, that sucks. My old dog is on her last legs - we're reaching the clearing at the end of the path soon as well, so you are really in my thoughts and prayers right now.

262 I hear all of you on the issue of dogs or close pets. I am in my early 50's, was raised on a farm, and we raise a lot of what we eat. My point is that seeing animals die is nothing new and a normal part of life.

However, I unashamedly cry like little boy when a beloved pet passes away. There is no shame in it. My dog Remington is more trustworthy than a good deal of people I associate with weekly.

263 So sorry about your doggo, wish I had some magic words. The sadness is the price we pay for loving them so much, they are truly such a gift to us.I personally pray that my beloved animals will be the first to greet me on the other side.
