Oh crap...what was it again?

30 days hath September, April, June and somethingber, all the rest are too many frickn' words for me to keep up with at this particular juncture.

Ok, so my phone tells me that it is not New Years Eve yet.

So, officially there are 2 full days of winning left in 2017.

P.S., Hillary has not been president for 363 straight days. (Insert Nelson "ha ha" here.)

1 Good Morning Morons; today is Saturday, December 30, 2017. On this day in 1972 the United States halted heavy bombing of North Vietnam. I was there for that one off the coast on Yankee station. We had been bombing heavy all the way through Christmas.

2 The State Department has finally released documents from Wiener's laptop. Nothing says this is all of them.

The State Department on Friday released a batch of work-related emails from the account of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin that were discovered by the FBI on a laptop belonging to Abedin's estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign.

At least four of the documents released Friday are marked classified.

This is a flip phone as well, but it doesn't do that. In fact, a couple of weeks ago my phone charge went bad while it was plugged in. Guess what happens when you plug a charge into a phone and it not charging. It drains the phone instead. Phone went stone dead.

The misrepresenting a phone number is not the big problem, it was the swatting that was the issue. The swatting is bad enough, but when you have a trigger happy cop to kill the innocent victim it is horrendous.

The MO that I'm aware of is to (I'm gonna redact the actual method) let's just say that a call is made to police from a number which appears to be a house in that locality. Some reference is made to the inhabitants being at risk by an armed gunman.

The swat team is bad, yes. But they've been conned by the caller ID number. I've been bitching and moaning about this for years. If the police saw an out-of-area phone number they'd have a clue.

The problem is that THE LEFT is using this method. The first time some right wing dude does it something will happen. But so far it's been NOTHING BUT THE LEFT.

I have mixed feelings about the movie. On the one hand, I love it and it is wildly entertaining. Plus that cast is tremendous. The story though is ludicrous but one moment that is oddly out of place is the aftermath of the skirmish after they walk into the minefield. Despite the farcical nature of the flick, it is a moment that I find deeply moving.

Overall, of course, a Sefton fave.

83 My Consumer Cellular is about $43.00 a month with taxes. That gets me pretty much unlimited voice, a couple hundred texts, and about 24 hours worth of data. Data is nice when on the road and wi-fi isn't available.
Posted by: Acme Trucking Enterprises

That's what I have. Wife and I each with a Moto G. Not the top of the line, but it does what we need it to do. The nice thing with CC is, if you go over your data plan, they just bump you into the next one during the month. The next one up is 10 more for the month. We rarely go over our data limit, unless were are on vacation for a few weeks. I did discover though that after they bump you up that month, you need to bump yourself back down or the bump stays with you.

Liberty Unyielding (https://tinyurl.com/yc4agfht) has a post on the two day old protests, by J.E. Dyer, a perceptive retired Naval Intel officer.

Looks like, from an Iranian tweet "Protests are very different than 1999 and 2009 protests. This is the most vehemently anti regime event I've ever seen. Not just about the economic situation, but a deep and desperate cry against an unjust and repressive system."
Posted by: NaCly Dog at December 30, 2017 06:48 AM (hyuyC)

I commented over at PJ Media earlier on the good Roger Simon's post that if PLEASE GOD the regime is taken down and Iran is liberated it will be one of those once-in-a-lifetime tectonic shifts in the trajectory of history. I would venture to say at least on the order of the Berlin Wall coming down.

I also hope that PDT can covertly or overtly hasten that day. If he does, boy oh boy, the Left will go completely off the deep end. I would love to be a fly on the wall at the Kalorama Kaliphate Kompound to see the Farsi Ferret's reaction.

Well, fwiw, it sounds like a garbled version of something I was told back in the carburetor days ... that it was bad to start up and run only a very short time, then shut down before anything warmed up. Supposedly you could get liquid gasoline running down the cylinder walls, washing away the oil film and potentially causing damage on the next start. You were supposed to run until things had warmed up just enough to budge the temp gauge, which was enough to vaporize any gas present.

True ? I dunno.
Doesn't contradict any of the known laws of physics and whatnot, so ... faintly plausible but unproven ?

This illustrates why the most crucial issue is immigration and border control. Note that the last time California voted for a Republican was Bush 41. Gone goodbye. Nevermore.

Not only must there be no amnesty but we need to really deport the shit out of illegals, punish the shit out of their employers and those who shield them, cut them off completely from Uncle Sugar, end bilingualism, and finally seal the border and halt all immigration for a period of at least 20 years so whoever is here can either assimilate/adjust/adapt or leave.

If we can implement even a fraction of that, we have a chance.

Our owners manuals tell you to allow the vehicle to warm on high idle, and when the engine rpm drops to normal idle, the car is ready to go.

In yesterdays low teen weather, first start of the morning took about twenty seconds to go from high idle to normal.

150 FWIW, I would definitely agree that jumping in your car in zero degree weather, driving it a half-block to work, shutting it off immediately, and doing this every day of the year (heck, even in warm weather) would be less than ideal and, assuming proper maintenance elsewhere, may make a modern engine only last 100K-150K.

159 Real knowledge you can use from Click and Clack:

Perhaps no one has summed up the existential essence of the Dodge Dart better than French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. Writing about his Dart in 1961, Sartre said,

"In my journey to the end of night, I must rely not only on dialectical paths of reason. I must have a good solid automobile, one that eschews the futile trappings of worldly ennui and asks only for basic maintenance. My Dodge Dart offers me this elemental solace, and as interior parts fall off I am struck by the realization of their pointlessness. I might not know if the window is up or down. It is of no consequence."

166 'What is the over under?'

Hard to say.
2015 (The Freddy Grey uprising) saw 344, and was the second highest number of murders in city history.
Then in recent months, that number was reduced to 342, due to two shootings being changed to justified, for whatever the reason.

That then moved 2017 into a numeric second place, but is also recognized as the deadliest per-capita in the cities history.

#1 by raw numbers is somewhere in the 1990's with I think 354 murders.

So we only have about 40 hours remaining in the year.

But there is a strong cold front keeping people off the streets.

And most of our shootings are targeted, and on the streets/sidewalks.

50/50 at best.

My old mail man said they typically run through 30-50 start cycles each day for each truck depending on the route. Each truck sees more *starts* in a month than a comparable vehicle sees in a year.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a Happy and Prosperous New Year in 2018.

And to thank those folks who reviewed Muldoon's Library of Limericks, Volume 1 on Amazon. If the shelf in your bathroom looks a little bare, consider picking up a copy. Would also make a good Groundhog Day gift for that special someone. And give it a review. You could be the first to give it something other than five stars.

Use Ace's link so that hopefully he gets a nickle or two.

On a slightly different note, I'm in search of a flag for the AOSHQ website. I am an avid sailor and have been thinking that a official AOS burgee(flag) would be a perfect addition to my vessel and a simple identifier for like minded individuals. If they are available for purchase, how do I get one?, and they don't, how do I aquire the graphic to have one or several made? Maybe I'm not the only moron who would proudly display "the Colors"!!

The older non fuel injected vehicles ran rich when cold (choke not fully open) which could wash lubricant off the cylinder walls. Fuel management is much more precise with the computer controlled fuel injected systems of today. My 70 Chevelle (owned since new) and my 57 Chevy (restored that about 35 years ago) need a bit more loving care with choke pull-off adjustments so the choke doesn't remain closed too long. I still warm up my everyday car ('06 Mustang GT) in extreme cold just to give all the engine moving parts a chance to come up to operating temperature. Being the highway is only 5 minutes away, I make sure I don't "get on it" until I finally reach the highway itself. 320,000 miles on that 10 year old vehicle so far with no issues. And yes, piston slap when cold is common on many newer vehicles.

257 Just got finished shoveling about 4 inches of glow-bull warmening off my driveway and discover that I missed a discussion of the cinema classic, Kelly's Heroes. I love that movie; yes, it is more of a caper flick than a traditional war movie, but it is a lot of fun.

All for being this quirky movie, the producers tried to get the period equipment pretty much correct. It's only movie made in the 1970s (that I know of) that has tanks representing German Tigers look like Tigers. They put a mock-up turret on the chassis of the T-34 so they got that distinctive Christie suspension that American tanks don't typically have. AND the American Sherman tanks are .... Shermans! Of course, it helped filming the movie in Yugoslavia where all this obsolete armor was still available.

No painting German markings on American M-47 or M-48 tanks in this movie. (Which is one of my big peeves about the movie, Patton, starring George C. Scott: big budget movie but no attempt to make the tanks look period-correct in an otherwise great film.)

If I remember correctly (and too lazy to confirm), they used the Spanish Army for some of the battle sequences in Patton. The M-48 was probably still the standard MBT for the Spanish in the 70s. It still irks me that the producers didn't do anything to give the tanks a more "WWII look" other than some painted markings.

However, most people see a fully-tracked armored vehicle and think "TANK!" even though it might actually be an armored personnel carrier, self-propelled gun, command track, etc. Being a military history nerd, I know the difference and it bugs me when movie producers don't even bother to make an attempt at portraying correct armored fighting vehicles.

I think Crowder did film the reaction of Muslim bakeries requested to make cakes for homosexual weddings. The Muslims universally refused and the MFM yawned when Crowder tried to get their attention.

I like your idea.

Another is agree to bake the cake and then, on the big day, accidentally drop it during delivery. "Oops, here's your money back." May not be perfectly honest, but the alternative is to take it up the squeek-hole financially.

276 What I want to know is how do you raise your hands from below your waist to over your head without going near your waist band. Do you swing your stiff arms forward in an arc so that they are pointing at the officer at some point? (he was aiming something at me so I had to shoot him) Or do you move them like making a snow angel so that they disappear behind the door frame? ( he was reaching for something hidden so I had to shoot him) Do you move them slowly? (he wasn't responding to my orders so I had to shoot him) Do you move them quickly? (he made a sudden move so I had to shoot him).

Bottom line - no matter what you do there is always a story to cover for a bad shooting. And all the pro police people here can relax - nothing bad is going to happen to the officer involved - he won't be even be getting a letter of reprimand put in his permanent record.
