The Morning Report 12/29/17

redgreen.jpg

Good morning kids. Friday and the weekend is here, and the last Morning Report for the year. And what a year it has been. Grab yourself a nice hot cup of coved-foo-foo and let's dive in. First up, Daniel Greenfield breaks down, in his own inimitable style, why Donald Trump is Front Page Mag's man of the year for 2017. Obviously, all of us around these parts know the reasons but it still makes for a great read. Meanwhile, Breitbart stalwart James Delingpole delivers a sobering warning about the formidable challenge presented by the New Red-Green Movement's infestation into the world of high finance and investment. What they could not or cannot achieve through the courts and Congress, they will get through coercion, corruption and outright sabotaging of venture capital markets. Nothing to sneeze at given the staggering value of money we're talking about. Kill the Green Blob, indeed.

And there is still a shit-ton of house cleaning that needs to be done at the State Dept., which is more like the Deep State Dept. as Obama holdovers are still infecting the joint and derailing our efforts with Iran and elsewhere. Foggy Bottom needs to be fumigated, as well as the DoJ, FBI, CIA and all the rest, given the most recent revelations from Judicial Watch vis a vis the Kollusion Kangaroo Kourt.

Moving right along, in the vein of looking back on the year that was we have some popcorn worthy replays of some of Tu-Ca's greatest hits, as well as Conservative Review's 10 best and worst of PDT's foreign policy moves for his first year.

Roy Moore maintains, and not without good reason, really, that a fair amount of fraud and shenanigans may have cost him the Alabama special election. Even still, Doug Jones will be certified by Alabama's Secretary of State and the lawsuit Moore brought has been tossed. I have mixed feelings about this. It would've been nice for the lawsuit to occur even if Moore had no shot at winning if for no other reason than for the testimony to reveal the Democrat Left fraud operation and its machinations.

In a couple of somewhat tangential links, Rich Logis at American Thinker warns that in the wake of Alabama, the concept of a permanent and solid red state is dead and that we would do well to take heed of the implications going forward. And yet at the same time, in the wake PDT's first year, the Left is eating itself alive vis a vis Groperdammerung and the internal civil war between the Trotskyites and the Shining Path Maoist faction. And bereft of any solid policy ideas, they are yet again devolving to playing the race card as a strategy as well as running on impeachment. Interesting how, as I scan the inter-webz for links, you either see 2018 as a disaster for the GOP or the Democrats will be wiped out in an electoral tsunami as PDT's tax cuts and other policies kick into high gear. I guess bottom line is I'm expecting the latter but we should do all we can to not rest on laurels and prevent the former.

From a purely anecdotal standpoint, I have a poll (yes, I know) indicating that half of all Americans across all political lines now believe that the Media is absolutely generating fake news in order to damage the President. All things considered, I do believe that their power to shape and control the narrative has been seriously torpedoed and that is a good thing in the long run. The tell is the absolute shrillness, volume and open partisanship of those who are supposed to be impartial, not the pundits.

From hither and yon, we have Coulter on Kwanzaa, a record number of Americans are now on Social Security, an Oregon Court upholds a huge fine for the Christian bakers who refused to bake a homo wedding cake, a deadly fire swept through a Bronx apartment building killing at least 12, including a one-year-old infant, and lastly, we note the passing of actress/comedienne Rose Marie at age 94. RIP.

Before I leave, I just want to give a shout-out to Bluebell and Weasel for the Moron Cookbook. I got mine the other day and it is impressive. Thick! Seriously, The quality is both rare and well done.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed. Wishing you all a happy, healthy and safe new year!

On the one hand, the Democrats' civil war makes no difference in the grand scheme of what either one would do to this nation if it got the upper hand.

But, as it eats itself, and PDT and his policies take hold, hopefully the American people will see the Left as Gorgo the Friendly Angel for what it really is. Evil.

24 Blaming the Federal Deficit on Social Security is a flat out lie. Social Security was 'fixed' back in the seventies when taxes were raised. There was so much surplus money flooding into Washington that the politicians could not find ways to spend it fast enough.

The result was 'revenue sharing' block grants paid to states by the federal government in an attempt to buy votes. It failed. All that surplus social security tax money was spent. That is the reason for the federal debt.

Then along came Barack Obama.

32 Well, when you have a dwindling white population, you will have dwindling Republicanism.

So the fact that sure bet red states are no longer assured shouldn't be surprising.

We are importing democrats by the millions through immigration.

You have blacks who comprise 12pct of the population voting 90+ pct Donks and most other non white groups voting anywhere from 60-90 pct Donk.

So the Donks have a solid love on 47pct of the electorate.

And these immigrants are not simply staying in blue states but fanning out to the red states and slowly turning red to purple and eventually blue.

Immigration is where America will live and die.

Do nothing about immigration and all will be lost.

Then it all went squirally and he became a novelty act.

135 Here's something I've thought about: Rodman grew up without a father, the aptly named Philander Rodman, and said many times back in the day that he looked at his coach, the late Chuck Daly, as a father figure. It was well known and mentioned in many articles at the time that Daly and Rodman were more like father and son than coach and player.

Daly left the Pistons in 1992. In 1993 Rodman survived a suicide attempt. Later that year he reinvented himself as a "bad boy" and that was when things went off the rails.

I think Rodman needed that father figure in his life.

I can see all of that happening, but I can also see a scenario where construction will begin, meaning acreage will be visibly stripped bare of trees and look like a warzone, and then construction will stop due to either lack of funds or lawsuits, leaving the worst of all situations...

143 Good morning.

re: the Amazon and CVS reforming healthcare delivery, I see a couple potential flaws in the analysis. Whle CVS and Amazon may improve efficiencies in the delivery of pharmaceuticals, unless and until there are substantial changes in some other areas, the overall expenditures on health care will probably not come down much. Demand and funding come to mind.

DEMAND: The demand for health care goods and services has some external drivers, coming from outside the consumer. There is a difference between wanting a new pair of shoes and needing a new pair of shoes. Demand for shoes based on need would be at a some predictable low level (e.g. one pair per person per two years). Consumers weigh their need for shoes against their need for other things and allocate their spending accordingly.

Shoe makers advertise in order to make the customer want another pair of shoes (or more). If successful, demand goes to Imelda Marcos levels.

Now imagine an entity called the American College of Cobblers. They publish a 'scientific' treatise touting the health benefits of getting a new pair of shoes every 3 months. This 'scientific' result is then pushed on the public as accepted fact. Now, not only does the customer want a new pair of shoes, he needs a new pair of shoes. (numerous examples of this exist, but I could cite fetal ultrasound as a specific example. We're probably doing 8 to 10 times as many "screening" ultrasounds as we were 8 years ago).

FUNDING: If someone else is paying for it, nay, required to pay for it, this perceived need is even more magnified and makes it even easier to justify the purchase (i.e. the expenditure).

So CVS and Amazon nibbling around the edges of pharmaceutical deliveries may bring about some slight competitive changes, but it will still be far from a free market.

150 Sorry, I just wish Bannon or someone would just tell Moore to shut up. We don't need our own Hillary running around and yelling "I wuz robbed!"

He was a shitty candidate. Being slandered is part of the deal for anyone running on the right. If you can't figure out how to deal with it (as Trump did), then go away. We need to look at someone else. Sure, Mitchie McTurtleface's interference, from the start was the real reason we lost. That includes the primary, where he ensured the weaker conservative won. Again, that's part of the game we have to play.

Too many people on my side seem to think we just have to say "MAGA" and all the swamp critters, the gators and snakes, will all die or slink away. Ain't gonna happen.

On another note: how many people have noticed how much the office side of the Mary Tyler Moore Show was modeled closely on that of the Dick Van Dyke Show? Rose Marie's character, herself, was a close parallel to Betty White's. So was the acid-tongued boss, and the wisecracking writer vs the dumb butt of his jokes. It's pretty striking.

It will be hard to reverse, even with the failure of ZeroCare.

I think AL and Moore was a unique thing and too many people are making too much of a big deal about it.
-------------------

Moore was credibly* accused of creeping on teen girls. Reading anything other than "grown-ass men who hit on (and possibly assault) high school girls can't be elected in Alabama" is fatuous beyond measure.

*You don't have to believe that the accusations were credible. You can believe that the women were liars, set up by Soros, Organizing for America, ANSWER, the Black Panthers, and the RubinBootFrumKristol #NeverTrump pseudoconservative junta. The point is that the accusations were credible enough to get many Republicans to stay home, and to get swing voters to go for Jones.

I think a big difference between liberals and conservatives is that we believe in evolutionary change while they believe in revolutionary change.

Sure, I'd prefer power plants didn't use coal for energy. I'm pretty damn sure 100 years from now that will be accomplished. Evolutionary change will transpire in that time.

But the Paris Accords were going to impose limits on the US economy while giving China a couple decades of no limits. Who except a hard-core revolutionary communist would agree to such a one-sided 'deal'?

178 I was just playing around with Federal spending data over at
usgovernmentspending.com
which is actually a dot gov site. The user interface is a bitch to get what you want (revenue v spending) but you can get historical data going as far back as you want to go.

Two points are immediately apparent, when Nixon took the dollar off the gold standard, and that while population has increased in the US by a factor of three, federal spending has increased by a factor of 300.

In every year, except for the four years that Newt Gingrich pushed through a balanced federal budget (immediately noticeable in the data) spending has exceeded revenue.

Also noticeable is the rapid increase in spending during the Reagan years by the democrat controlled congress (by a factor of three) which spent all of the increase in revenue from the economic growth of those years. Also immediately obvious is the huge increase in federal debt under Obama.

And you can see the shrinking federal deficit now that Obama is not President.

Anyone who blames federal spending and the federal debt on anything other than the God Damn Corrupt Democrats with help from feckless republicans is lying to you.

There is a ton of data out there on a gazillion websites, all trying to obscure this simple fact. We have, and have had for a long time, an out of control spendthrift congress that wastes money, and elected politicians who leave office much richer than when they were first elected.

So the Left had to fabricate "victims" of their Global Warming theory.

So I've been in and out of the hospital three times since Labor Day for diverticulitis. Treatment of choice is Cipro and Flagyl. However, within minutes of starting the drip, I started itching and burning all over and broke out in a horrible rash. Shortly after that I became short of breath, my throat was closing up and breathing became difficult. Thankfully, staff was excellent and immediately administered their shock protocol.

The episode was over in less than 10 minutes; however, a week or so later I developed sores around my mouth and nose, and the skin on my feet and hands started to peel. The rash took nearly a month to subside.

I just finished another round of a different antibiotic last week, and for the first time in nearly four months I felt symptom free.

Until yesterday. When I woke up with pain in my right heel. Dx: tendonitis. From the Cipro.

Normally, I'd be aghast at this, mostly because the latent (or not so latent) cronyism means those two and others like them will no doubt use government to try and crush any small competitors via regulations; which is the reason why these kind of things are started in the first place, that is, to get around the regulations and lower costs.

BUT... in the age of Trump and with the internet freed up again, small pharma/insurance/medical start-ups could be the answer. IF allowed to flourish.

Not that difficult. Coffee in the bottom, boiling water on top. Place the press/lid on so it just touches the top of the liquid. Let it steep, then gently press down to the bottom and serve.

268 While Trump supporters have an overwhelmingly negative view of the media, Democratic confidence in the press has skyrocketed since Mr. Trump's election.

Seventy-four percent of Democratic or Democrat-leaning respondents express "a great deal" or "a fair amount" of confidence in the news media. During the presidential race, Democratic confidence in the media sat at just over 50 percent -- its lowest point in decades.

That's not good. I thought media hysteria would further alienate more people from the left. But maybe it wasn't "hysteria" at all, since the strategy is working. And that's how you get a self appointed horsepoo/bikelock/rib-cracking brigade.

I don't know

Spending, something something off budget items

I do know the damn federal government is out of control, and we're going to get some hellish inflation.

I also know the boom in aerospace with Kennedy's Moon Shot was a net plus for the country that was squandered because the politicians didn't know what to do with it. Ronnie Ray Gun's Star Wars budgets were also a net plus for the country despite the democrats attempts to emasculate the US Military.

Public education has been destroyed despite the enormous increases in spending.

355 you either see 2018 as a disaster for the GOP or the Democrats will be
wiped out in an electoral tsunami as PDT's tax cuts and other policies
kick into high gear.
---
A disaster for the gope and a wipeout for the democrats, one hopes.

The reasoning for the latter is obvious, the former depends on people remembering that for most of the year this congress refused to do much of anything Trump was elected for and they were elected to support, most notably their insistence on trying to repair and rename obamacare rather than repealing it.

And while there is some happy fluff with the tax frankenstein, we shouldn't forget that it's nowhere near the goal of reducing tax returns to the size of the postcard, due to the Collins compromise, it doesn't fully require blue staters to pay their fair share of the federal tax burden, and without some commensurate effort to reduce government spending to lie within whatever the resulting tax revenue turns out to be, government is still causing inflation that eats the value out of the 'extra' money some people are seeing.

oh, well, what is included in the data? Gross tax receipts including social security taxes and medicare/Medicaid?

I don't know

Spending, something something off budget items

I do know the damn federal government is out of control, and we're going to get some hellish inflation.

I also know the boom in aerospace with Kennedy's Moon Shot was a net plus for the country that was squandered because the politicians didn't know what to do with it. Ronnie Ray Gun's Star Wars budgets were also a net plus for the country despite the democrats attempts to emasculate the US Military.

Public education has been destroyed despite the enormous increases in spending.

We're in deep shit and there is no easy way out of it.

After a bit of a struggle to understand proper excel syntax, I managed to generate three columns of numbers
- revenue as a percentage of GDP
- spending as a percentage of GDP
- Debt as a percentage of GDP

Reagan was right. We could get control of the federal budget by cutting taxes, controlling spending, and growing the economy.

You can see in the numbers the difference between a GOP Congress and a Democrat Congress.

Taxes as a percentage of GDP have been consistently between 15-18 percent.

Cutting taxes, even slightly, grows the economy. Congress just can't help spending more. And it will take years of balanced budgets to reduce the debt.

386 >>The Target Corporation of discount stores said it is
recalling a Jewish-themed version of a card game that features
offensive content.

Cards in the Chosen People Pack version of the Cards Against
Humanity game were flagged on social media in recent days for lines like
Cant you see, the Jews are behind everything the banks, the media,
even ! and Torturing Jews until they say they arent Jews anymore.

How are these fucks still in business?

Cards Against Humanity picks on everyone. They aren't singling Jews out. The whole schtick of the game is to be as offensive as possible to as many as possible. Very un-PC. I've never played it, but I've watched people play it on twitch. It pushes buttons.

The subtitle of the game is " A party game for horrible people." Also, 100% of the game's writers are Jewish.

387 That Dellingpole article is incredible. Incredibly scary. I hope he has a good security detail: when you understand how rich and powerful the forces are behind the climate scam, anything could be possible.

389 The Oregon cake trials prove that in Oregon, freedom of speech and freedom of religion are just a liberal's or an SJW's tantrum away from extinction. I would love the same metric tried against a Muslim bakery, vis-a-vis what Crowder showed in one of his videos, and see the Oregon cake police show their obvious liberal biases by ignoring it.

We know this is not about gays and cakes, but about liberal policies, government control, and allowing government to tell us how we are allowed to think, believe, and behave.
