Things That Make You Shake Your Head

Depending on your point of view and/or religious beliefs Mankind has been around anywhere from 6,000 years to a million or more. Up until now we had no idea nor had considered Menstrual cycles.

Academics intend to establish the field of "critical menstrual studies" with the upcoming publication of the first-ever scholarly handbook devoted to the consideration of menstruation.

The Palgrave Handbook of Critical Menstrual Studies, slated for publication in 2020, will be "animated by the central question: what new lines of inquiry, including research questions and social justice engagements, are possible when we center our attention on menstrual health and politics across the lifespan?" according to the book proposal.

I loved my Mother and when she passed I grieved. My grief was a tad more conventional than sprinkling her ashes on any of my meals.

Grieving Debra Parsons will have her mum Doreen for Christmas dinner this year – by scattering her ashes on the turkey then tucking in.

And for dessert she’ll enjoy Christmas Pud...with a dusting of her mum’s last remains too.

Debra, 41, has felt the urge to EAT Doreen’s ashes since she died in May and has had a small spoonful most days to feel “as close as possible” to her.

If you have to transfer $850,000 to someone, how are you going to do it? Electronic transfer, in person? Sure why not UPS?

“While UPS’s service is excellent in our industry, we are unfortunately not perfect. Occasionally, the loss of a package does occur,” spokeswoman Nirali Raval told CBC. “Our records indicate that our team followed UPS protocol and an exhaustive search for this package was completed by our Operations and Security teams. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate the package."

Mass third world is observed. A word to the criminal migrant by Pat Condell.

If these don't make you shake your head then try to come up with something in this open thread.

9 The publication will have six sections, namely, Menstruation as Narrative, Menstruation as Structural, Menstruation as Embodied, Menstruation as Material, and Menstruation as Fundamental.

Each section is expected to have six to eight chapters, with topics including "queering menstruation," "menstrual suppression," "menstrual art," "FemCare advertising," and "menstrual leave."

"There will be other pieces-some creative writing and images and what we are calling transnational dialogues on key topics," said Bobel, adding that the book is still very much in progress.

36 UFOs are back in the news. The Pentagon had a UFO program demanded by Harry Reid who is a friend of that Bigalow guy of the inflatable space craft.

The Pentagon shut down the UFO department, and somebody wants it started back up again.

States that make pot legal have noticed that they will have to stop mandatory drug testing of employees since pot is legal, except federal requirements for drug testing interstate truck drivers is a federal regulation which makes you wonder if the driver licenses in those states where pot is not legal and drug testing is prohibited will no longer be considered valid in other states.

Then there are those cities and states who want to ignore federal immigration law.

Let us not forget those local and state regulations that infringe on the 2nd amendment because the US Constitution does not apply to state law (as some have claimed on this very blog).

If the 2nd amendment doesn't apply to state law, what about the 1st or the 5th or the 14th?

Which is the real point about what is going on here. States want to ignore federal law. We did that once. It was the democrats back then too. It ended in fire.

I am so very tired of the Left's/feminists' obsession with menstruation.
Particularly since they are so averse to the very feminie, womanly thing to which this is related. How about take the pill in such a way that you only menstruate a few times a year and STFU?

And let's not kid ourselves that they won;t be including transgenders who can only "menstruate" in their imaginary life.

It was a bank draft, which means it's the bank's money at risk. They are worried that whoever ended up with the check will cash it later and the bank will be out the money. They want the woman to accept responsibility if that happens. The woman said ok, but the bank want her to use her house as collateral. She says no to that.

77 Just a random thought - I recall back in college when I was fulfilling some requirement by sitting in a history class where the subject had turned to rather archaic beliefs by early civilizations. One tribe/whatever had science that had to do with linking menstrual cycles to various things, whether bad harvests, good harvests, storms, battle victories, or whatever. There was this mystical bent given to menstruation there, certainly not scientific despite the very sure proclamations of the tribe mystics.

Seems silly to think that humans once thought that way. Even sillier that, I suppose, some still do.

Posted by: Insomniac - Nobody in Particular at December 17, 2017 07:03 PM (NWiLs)

My understanding of bank drafts is that they are as good as cash, and the sender cannot unilaterally stop payment, as he can with a check. But in this particular instance, where all parties are family, and all agreed that the original was lost, I don't see why the bank couldn't make an exception.

Can't do it. A bank draft is a form of guaranteed payment, drawn on the bank's own account. That's the advantage of accepting a bank draft instead of someone's personal check. You know the bank has guaranteed payment.

Did UPS know they were being entrusted with a bank draft (i.e. money) to the tune of 850 grand? Will they even ship money? According to the woman, the bank advised them to use UPS. I'd say the bank is on the hook for the loss, having given bad advice.

That is only guaranteed to work if the thief tries to cash the check at the same place. If they take it somewhere else, they can get the cash and fade away. By the time the banks figure it out, the money is gone and the issuing bank is on the hook for it.

I doubt most branch banks have 850 grand in cash to pay out such a draft; usually one would be required to open an account, and credit the account. Drafts have serial numbers on them, so there's no reason at all why a "hot list" of stolen serial numbers could not be circulated.

What if the check gets cashed in the Cayman Islands? The issuing bank is worried about getting conned. That presents a bit of a conundrum. What do you do, or what do I do, if power goes out, leaving us stranded in a tram? Do we break out, and start walking down the tunnel in the dark? What happens if the power is restored, and tram starts running again? Do we get run down, or electrocuted by the third rail?

I think it would wind up being situational. If I could see daylight, or even a lighted interior space ahead, or very, very close behind, or an exit door nearby, I'd try to bail. If not, one might be safer to stay in the tram. If whatever event caused the power outage didn't destroy the tunnels, chances are they will remain safe for a long time.

My bad for assuming they are. What they probably are not, is out in the concourse with the foot traffic, because you know that would not end well. What I was getting at, is that finding oneself trapped in a tram, or in an elevator, is that when and how you make the decision to try to escape on foot has to be informed by where you are in the system, and how quickly you can reach safety once out of the conveyance.

International flight from southern Africa (KLM or Sabena, forget). Stopover in Kinshasa (I think). Anyway, we stay on the plane.

First some guys come on, spraying what I assume were insecticides. Pleasant!

Then, an average to mousey looking guy comes on, accompanied by two Dolph Lundgren-lookalike huge worked out blonde high-and-tight SS Aryan muthascratchas, with sub-maching guns slung over their shoulders. Interesting!

The guy talks/haggles with the chief purser/stewardess. It ends, the guy and his muscle leave the plane. She brings back a couple of brown paper bags, like the kind you took you lunch to elementary school in, with stapled on notes containing lots of scribbling. She locks them in the duty-free cart, right in front of me.

So I ask, WTF? She says something like - "oh, a couple million dollars worth of diamonds, an agent will meet the plane in Amsterdam". So there you go.

We can only hope it is a big list, and includes many useless/worse GOP types from safe seats. This coupled with a miracle of Tea Party-style revolt and defenestration of the worst GOP people (a dozen Dave Brat upsets) might actually make the House useful. Senate depends on both knocking off most of the Dems up this time, and ridding itself of the likes of McCain, and Cochran (by natural causes) and a few others by electoral causes. Amazing to consider what Trump could do if he had a legislature to work with.

I had an epiphany about the whole Mueller investigation.

They did not assign active DOJ attorneys to the investigation... he 'created' a team of FBI and outside Lawyers....

Now, to get on said team, you had to ASK to be on it... as it was a 'special assignment' or NEW Job...

And it was KNOWN that they were going after the President...

So of course, only people who thought they COULD get the President, or WANTED to get the President, are on that team...

Even Mueller... if he thought there was no 'there there'.... he would have turned down the assignment......

ergo... its a self selected Witch Hunt...

Does your neighbor have pen raised birds? Neither of my dogs will work those. They know the difference between wild & pen raised. This dog has the tools, I just need to get her trained up.

418 I don't know when the law was passed that said all stage plays must be musicals but Congress needs to repeal it right after they pass the tax bill. Christmas Story live would not be half bad if they dropped the singing.

419 Proxy votes exist for a reason. Refusing to use one is deliberate malice here.

Proxy or "paired" votes used to exist in the Congress, but were eliminated in the early 80's.

421 >>Does your neighbor have pen raised birds?

Yes.

But the 'Pen' is probably 2-3 acres in the middle of his ranch. Only difference being which side of the net the birds on really.

They are for Spring and Training.

And the wild birds on his place are everywhere.

It's just silly.

422 Berger stole documents from the Archives on orders from the Clintons. This was before BleachBit. They were about Clinton's negligence on bin Laden. Could have hurt Hillary's chances, you see.

423 140 136 Don't criticual menstrual studies overlook the challenges of women with penii?

Ok, there are a couple of really crass jokes here but I am far too classy for such things.

What? I must be in the wrong place;-)

424 When I saw the menstrual studies thing, I wondered if it was a 4chan troll like their 2015 meme about "free-bleeding". I hope it is.

425 "Don't criticual menstrual studies overlook the challenges of women with penii?"

No, you're supposed to pretend that they menstruate.

I wish I were making this up.

On an unrelated note: Fuck you, John McCain. I hope that some day we get the documentation that shows you were turned in the POW camp and have been working against American interests ever since.

427 "Critical Menstrual Studies"... This has Chris Matthews written all over it. Perfect fit I say. Chris is verbally menstruating 24x7x365.

Coincidentally, (or *is* it), Chris is gonna be out of work any day now.
