Little Marco Now a Yes On Tax Bill After Concession on Refundable Child Tax Credit; Mike Lee Still Undecided; Unexpected Vote Flips from Hard No to Yes

Marco Rubio insisted that more of the bill's $2000-per-child tax credit be made "refundable," that is, it's a tax credit even if you don't pay taxes. In other words, it's a direct wealth transfer from tax-paying Americans to non-tax-paying Americans.

The bill already had a refundable component of $1100 per child. Rubio wanted that upped. It has been upped, to $1400 per child, and now he's a yes.

Mike Lee, on the other hand, remains undecided. Apparently he wants an even larger direct wealth transfer.

Surprisingly, even liberal stooge Bob Corker, who previously objected to the plan over alleged concerns about increasing the deficit (though he's not very keen on cutting government spending), is now a... yes??!!

29 STAY AWAY FROM CALIFORNIA

We are releasing violent psychopaths from the prison system onto the streets, by the hundreds:

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/ 37-years-after-brutal-SF-crime-inmate-paroled-12432549.php?t=b6c556de13

37 years after brutal SF crime, inmate paroled under state youth-offender law

"It was a brutal crime: Four teens in San Francisco abducted a Golden Gate University student as she walked to her car, raped her over four hours, then dumped her on a desolate street, shooting her twice and running her down with her car.

The 24-year-old woman survived and testified in the 1981 trial of the teens. Three were 17 years old and one was 16 at the time of the attack, but they were prosecuted as adults, convicted of multiple crimes and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Thirty-six years later, one of the four, Michael Brown, has been freed under a California law that gives second chances to inmates serving life sentences who committed their crimes as minors or as young adults.

The rationale behind the law is that the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which controls impulse control, is still developing even into early adulthood. Research shows that this part of the brain isn’t fully developed until a person is in his mid-20s, and the law requires the state Board of Parole Hearings to give special consideration to inmates who committed their crimes before age 23 by weighing “the diminished culpability of juveniles as compared to that of adults.” In January, the state will extend the age to 25.

In Brown’s case, the parole board said at a June hearing that at the time of the crimes, he had a “17-year-old brain” and lacked impulse control. He became one of 900 prisoners to be freed under the youth-offender law since it took effect in 2014."

All I can say is #%&@*$^%@$#^&%$#$@!!!!!

When liberals get control of your justice system, your state is fucked. Really, truly fucked.

You clearly have not learned the lesson of proggie doublespeak yet. You'd think eight long years of the JEF would have you trained, but no.

You must hold at least 3 mutually exclusive beliefs at all times. And eventually, your ability to reason turns into something that looks and behaves like old, warm jello. THEN it will all make perfect sense to you.

Work on that...

You know why the GOP keeps winning big on the estate tax. Because they argue for its repeal on fairness alone (i.e., emotion). Stop talking about growth and deficits, etc. when it comes to taxes. I'd just argue that it is immoral to have to pay more than 15% to the federal government on taxes. Leave it at that.

That was at the old job where I worked for the psychopaths. When I got the huge raise, my first response was no shit women get screwed on wages, I should have pitched a fit and demanded this four years ago.

Now, I make about half of what I made there and I don't regret a single thing. I also have maybe a tenth of the responsibilities and did I mention that The Boss stood at the office door today and the second the clock hit noon he said "We're closed, get out! Why are you both still here!"

Yeah, there are things that are worth more than money.

(Also I walked away from the psychopaths with a decent amount in a retirement fund so that makes a world of difference too.)

Yes, it is too much to ask of our betters in the government. It's a jealousy tax, plain and simple. What they of course fail to realize is that many people use inheritances to better themselves, start a business etc. Can't have that now can we plebes.

Not only that, but the AMT is convoluted and byzantine. Even those of us who prepare taxes for a living get surprised and baffled by it often.

Moreover, if wealthy people want to avoid taxes altogether by buying government bonds only, and buying a lot of new fixed assets to depreciate, why not let them? (Which was the original justification for creating the AMT back in 1969).

Rates of return on said bonds are much lower, buying new business equipment is always good for the economy, and I would rather have wealthy Americans own the national debt than wealthy Chinese.

========

It's the same with PETA. When animal kills animal, they sigh and say "Isn't nature grand?" If a hunter on safari from America kills an animal "Oh! It's an OUTRAGE".

This is what I think is going on: imagine there is someone who thinks it is appalling that a red haired man murders someone. But when a brown haired man murders someone, they don't seem to mind or even notice.

Eventually you begin to suspect that it is not the act of murder that they feel is morally repugnant. You suspect that they do not like red haired people, and lie about it, because to express an arbitrary preference would be too obviously evil, even for their fellow liberals.

And that is why they gladly forgive the right kinds of rapists, and try to destroy the wrong kinds. They don't care about the crime. They are really expressing a dislike of certain individuals rather than a moral principle.

Posted by: donny at December 15, 2017 04:02 PM (HrSJb)

No. The Feds want to charge him more since California is willing to let a murderer skate free except on the minimum charge of felony possession of a firearm. But the lawyer wants to overturn that because clearly he wasn't in possession of the gun and the only reason he threw it into the ocean is because the gun had a mind of its own and was shooting without permission so he threw it in the ocean to make it stop.

I expect all of this is so they can refuse to turn him over to the feds. Then they get the gun charge overturned and release him before the feds can take him into custody again. Which is why he was able to murder Steinle in the first place.

THIS, too. Basis rules in some ways were even more important, and for the Demunists even more pernicious, than the exemption amounts.

After all, if the basis can be stepped up for the heirs, then the "gain" on the farm, ranch or small business can be minimized, or often eliminated altogether.

You know, given how much societal damage the Left has done, if the tax code can be used to reverse or undo that damage, then we should use it.

--Encouraging home and other land ownership widely distributed among the population means less Commiecrats.
--Encouraging people to own individual investment and retirement accounts also means less Commiecrats.
--A tax code that encourages marriage and in-wedlock births would do the same.
--Let us also do that to people's Social Security "trust funds" and to people's health care plans, rather then making them think the government or their employers owe them something.

Encourage an Ownership Society.

299 The Facebook:

Hard Questions: Is Spending Time on Social Media Bad for Us?

The bad: In general, when people spend a lot of time passively consuming information -- reading but not interacting with people -- they report feeling worse afterward. In one experiment, University of Michigan students randomly assigned to read Facebook for 10 minutes were in a worse mood at the end of the day than students assigned to post or talk to friends on Facebook. A study from UC San Diego and Yale found that people who clicked on about four times as many links as the average person, or who liked twice as many posts, reported worse mental health than average in a survey. Though the causes aren't clear, researchers hypothesize that reading about others online might lead to negative social comparison -- and perhaps even more so than offline, since people's posts are often more curated and flattering. Another theory is that the internet takes people away from social engagement in person.

Given how many Republicans themselves made their plans around such deductions, for decades, including I dare say most Morons here, I am not surprised.

And frankly, time to fight fire with fire. Fight their social engineering with our social counter-engineering. We can encourage a Property and Asset Ownership Society rather than a Government Entitled Society through the tax code, and we should.

Heck, the increased Protectionism many of the MAGA crowd want is part of this too, and in some areas might be justifiable.

They always play dirty, and somehow we have to stick to Queensberry Rules? Nope. No more. Fight fire with fire.

The Good:

We are getting the Individual Mandate repealed.

ANWR drilling (remember that?)

And for me anyway, I was paying the highest marginal rate for my small business LLC and (supposedly) I'll now pay 20%. That's a massive decrease, but I still don't know all the details.

Well, one detail is you're still paying the highest rate, and not 20%. It's just that 20% of your pre-tax income is going to be excluded from tax, which should mean a tax reduction, and supposedly they are keeping the accelerated RD write-off.

What they should have done is exclude all income kept in the company from tax entirely. Small companies need the capital. But they didn't.

At least with this bill, the "something" everybody gets is a tax cut. Did any of you read the ObamaCare bill? They had to hang a whole Christmas tree of pork off it just to get the votes to pass it (even with Dem control of both houses).

I can't wait for the Convention of the States, and one of the amendments I want them to send to the states is a "one topic per bill" rule. (Yes, the "One Subject at a Time Act" has been proposed as a regular bill, but that wouldn't be binding on Congress.)

Now I hope Trump will do something to cut back the planned series of increases in the minimum wage. That will bring jobs back to America.

387 384 > Tax return filers should not be punished in the tax code. Different things, don't conflate them.

Why do you think that disallowing people who're here illegally to get welfare through the tax code is 'using the tax code to punish people'?

The current tax code allows illegals with US dependents (anchor babys) to file for tax credits. The original GOP Tax bill 'fixed' this. Then they took the fix out. So, unless they've put the fix back in, illegals will be able to file for refundable tax credits.
