The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

Oh, Chicks is Chicks, and Dudes is Dudes, and never the two shall meet; and if they do, I'm throwing poo! (Stuff Rudyard Kipling Said: Volume II)

No Gender December rolls round again

And I for one am tremendously excited to blur the genetic and cultural roles that two separate sexes have fit in rather nicely for...oh...our entire natural history. Because only good will become of that. For starters, we won't have war, or for that matter any violence, because it is the heteronormative patriarchy that is the corrosive effect on our culture. Get rid of that, and its unicorns and skittles!

NoGenderDecember.jpg

In 2014 a group called Play Unlimited founded No Gender December with the aim to end what they call 'gender-stereotyped toys'. They believe that with correct parental conditioning you can actually defy biological reality and scientific studies and make boys like girl's toys and girls like boy toys. Last year they were successful in lobbying major Australian retailers Big W and Target to end having gendered toy categories in their stores.

I have a cousin by marriage who is an Aussie. He is in his early 90s, fought in the Pacific and then Crete, was transferred to the British Mandate of Palestine, where he met my cousin. Got married, built a business, raised four kids, and now grows peaches in Colorado.

I think he is pretty confident of, and comfortable with his gender, and his wife's gender, and his daughters' genders. I'll bet he isn't confident of the future prospects of Australia though!

Chris Matthews: 'The Worst You Can Say About Democrats Is They're Too Pure'
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said Thursday that Democrats are setting such a high standard for personal property that they can only be criticized for their purity.

Matthews described the pain that Democrats went through to "sacrifice" the "respected" Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.) in the service of purifying the party. Franken announced his resignation Thursday in the face of mounting allegations of groping, although he focused his speech on accusing Republicans of wrongdoing and insisting that he is not guilty.

Matthews ascribed Franken’s resignation to Democrats’ strong support of women’s rights, and he asked his guests if this would cause more Americans to support Democrats.

What the hell is there to say about this? The man may be the Democrat's best and most consistent shill, although I freely admit that the competition is fierce. But the sheer volume of intellectual contortion needed to think of this and then, wonder of wonders, actually speak it aloud is just phenomenal. I have to give the man credit, he is ferociously dedicated to his craft. And the bottle of Jameson's in his dressing room.

Feinstein Urges Trump Not to Move U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, Despite Voting to Move Embassy to Jerusalem

Moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem would be in line with a law that Congress passed in 1995 requiring "the relocation of the United States embassy in Israel to Jerusalem." The measure, which also called for the U.S. to recognize the city as the undivided capital of Israel, passed the Senate by an overwhelming 93-5 margin.

Among the senators who voted for the initial Jerusalem Embassy Act was one Dianne Feinstein.

Feinstein actually played a key role in getting the bill passed by inserting a provision that would allow the president to issue a waiver to delay the embassy move six months at a time, if the president determined it was in the U.S. national security interest.

Feinstein's move led 10 additional Democratic members to support the bill, giving it a veto-proof majority.

Shut your corrupt whore mouth. And while you are at it, why don't you rein in your corrupt thief of a husband. And get a new fvcking hair style: that one has been old for about 35 years.

Israel is a sovereign nation, and it is nobody's business but their own where they put their capital. That it is an issue is a testament to the hatred that the world holds for Jews, Judaism, and their current incarnation, The State of Israel. Everyone is just so, so disappointed that Hitler didn't finish the job, and the world still has some Jews floating around causing trouble. And they even had the balls to recreate their own country from the ashes of its first go-round, which lasted about 1,000 years in a little corner of the Middle East. You know, where their culture and religion started.

The "Palestinians" are a convenient excuse for Jew-hate, and in fact their cause is an entirely fictional one, created by the Arab League before Israel fought and won the Six Day War, and took back some of its ancestral territory.

And Diane Feinstein buys into that, or it's just a naked political play to criticize President Trump. Either way, she is a harridan and a thief and a destructive influence on any sort of coherent foreign policy.

38 Yeah more on gender and toys...

There were twin boys born in Canada. On one the electric circumcision went badly cauterizing away his sword before he even knew what it was. "Lo!," yelled with maniacal glee Dr. Money out of Johns Hopkins, "treat him as a girl and call him Brenda."

Well the parents, believing doctors to always be right, tried to do that. And Dr. Money started writing papers on how successful his experiment on a human child was going. So he got famous.

Brenda meanwhile was a very very sad child. Dolls did not interest Brenda. Brenda wanted to play with toys for boys. But Dr. Money kept telling the parents and the world what a success the experiment was.

Until Brenda got to be 11 or 12. After battling depression and other mental woes, Brenda was finally told the truth. Brenda tried to put his life back in order and took the name David. But you see Dr. Money had damaged him. So David took his own life.

As for Dr. Money. He is also dead and hopefully getting reamed on the flaming barbed cock of Satan for what he did to one innocent child.

What other country is there where we don't locate our embassies in the same city that the country has its government in? Imagine a world where the press were honest for like an hour a day. That's really all it would take to shake us free of all the crap the left foists on the world.

50 Good morning all.

The Fire here made a huge jump Saturday night and yesterday. Voluntary evacuations for parts of the city of Santa Barbara. Mandatory evacs for the foothills. Winds were not bad last night so things are better today as the fire heads to the interior side of the coastal foothills. Soon it will meet up with the burnt areas from the fires last year. So we got that going for us.

I'v heard crazy talk that we should go back to "controlled burns" and firebreaks like we had up until the early 80s. Sure that worked but the watermelons will never let that happen. Better we have huge fires and terrible air quality. It is a price that the watermelons are willing to make the rest of us pay.

At Casa Jukin we did our best to fight the fire by getting all of our valuables ready and the RV set up to bug out. That alone I'm sure stopped the advance. Took quite a few hours.

79 If you give a girl four matchboxes and a playschool garage and she names the cars Mommy, Daddy, Sister and Brother, and calls the garage home, puts them to bed and tucks them in, should you tell her she is doing it wrong.

The cars should vroooooom screech and crash and fly off the top of the garage explode and burn, right? I mean that's how it's done right?

out of a pile of used toys and started shooting people with it. We're
gun folk (in fact a Ruger 10/22 is finding its "forever home" with him

158 In 2014 a group called Play Unlimited founded No Gender December with the aim to end what they call 'gender-stereotyped toys'. They believe that with correct parental conditioning you can actually defy biological reality and scientific studies and make boys like girl's toys and girls like boy toys. Last year they were successful in lobbying major Australian retailers Big W and Target to end having gendered toy categories in their stores.

Haven't they tried this shit before? Didn't they give boys Barbie dolls and girls more boy type toys, and the result after all their efforts ended up being that the boys treated the Barbies like guns and the girls treated the boy toys as doll babies.

As I recall, it simply explained how human behavior, standards, some magic fairy dust called integrity of institutions were of course the "secret" ingredient to economic and social progress. Something like that. Anyway, his chapter titles all by themselves made/make most of that point.

I like to slice a london broil and brown it in a pan before putting it in to slow cook. Make 2" or so slices and give it a bit of color/flavor, then let it bubble all day.

You wouldn't think it, but a pack of ranch instant dressing mix gives it a great flavor, too. Sometimes I do one pack ranch, one eye-talian.

Like so many others, I've moved on to an instant pot and will never look back. Saute the meat in the same container it will slow cook in later? Yes, please.

234 218 209 According to Vivid Seats, an NFL ticket reselling site, seat prices at most NFL stadiums have bottomed out, leaving fans able to snag a lower level seat for a Buffalo Bills game for an astounding three dollars. Tickets at center field, right on the fifty-yard line (typically hard to find), will run you around $30.

Obviously, seats for the Bills (who are 6-6) and the Colts (who are even worse), aren't among the most in-demand tickets in the NFL. But even big-name teams aren't faring much better. Tickets to see the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field are going for around $20. Tickets to see the Green Bay Packers start at around $10.

Some of the local chiefs (or kangs, whatever) did do that, I think, but not on a large scale. Like how certain of the Mesoamerican lords domesticated deer. It didn't go large-scale because deer don't have a lot of meat on the hoof and it's more fun to hunt them.

In Africa certain of the larger antelopes have proven domesticable as well, though. They'd make good cattle.

Just because they're similar animals doesn't mean its possible. Can you domesticate a lion just because we have cats? The domesticated horse could have been very unique. I mean its probably a multitude of factors, maybe even including that the Romans were busy wiping out most of Europe rather than most of Africa and that allowed Europe to eventually grow while Africa stagnated. I mean pre and post Roman Empire, how much different was Europe from Africa? Largely tribal. Mostly illiterate. Not really building large cities of stone and brick.

Unless they somehow managed to obtain some Indian elephants -- which seems a little unlikely. The big trade all through the ancient world, including with India, only got started after the Carthaginians were history.

So you've got the precious item, but missed out on blowing s**t up. Life is full of trade-offs.

That's what my best friend's wife said when we were lamenting all the toys we blew up that would be worth something today. At least we have the good memories of blowing stuff up together.
==========
When we were young there was no spurious nostalgia-driven collectors' market yet. We had toys, we played with them, we sometimes played with them rough. We read our comic books until they fell apart and left our movie posters on the wall or closet door until they were in tatters. Then we got into cars and girls and playing D&D on weekends because we didn't get the girls.

I remember the Big Jim/Big Josh toy series too. Basically G.I. Joe and friends in their post-Vietnam burnout phase with Seventies hair and whiskers, camping out in the wilderness and stuff.

It's because they are not diverse enough. We should put pressure on African nations to accept Mexican illegals from here, in fact all illegals whose nations of origin will not accept them back.

They could also take any Muslim "refugees" such as Australia has tried to pawn off on us, along with their "chain" relatives.

It would be easy to pressure such nations, and it would be for their OWN good, since diversity will always strengthen a nation and bring about peace and economic and technological advancement. We need to give them the gift of diversity, which they do not realize that they are in desperate need of.

I'm pretty sure there's an environmental "sweet spot" for civilizations. If you're living in the Garden of Eden, there just isn't any need to develop much sophisticated technology or societal organization. Obviously the harsher the climate, the harder it is just to survive and difficult to actually create agriculture, so there's a middle ground. You need to have enough resources that you aren't going to die every year, but not enough that it makes sense to try to start domesticating animals and trying to plant crops because they might not be there next year.

Zebra's really can't be domesticated, but Africans had plenty of contacts with places that did have horses over the millenia. Remember that even though the American Plains Indians were still effectively living in a stone age society, within 100 years of coming into contact with white culture, they had developed what many described as "The finest light cavalry in the world". They saw what horses could do for them almost immediately, and used them with devastating efficiency.

319 Just because they're similar animals doesn't mean its possible.

Posted by: buzzion at December 11, 2017 12:28 PM (cAnNx)

The Roman Empire included a great deal of Northern Africa, but certainly did not cross the Sahara. Of course, most of that was wiped out by the mohammedans and sent right back into the stone age, but for a while there, North Africa was just as civilized as could be.

Most of the issue is cultural.

Look at North and South America pre-Columbus. Stone age. No wheel. Very little technology.

Same deal in sub-Saharan Africa.

And Australia.

The difference in the long run was that everywhere except Africa embraced imported tech. Africa passed. That is the result of tribalism, i.e., if I don't have it, you don't get it either, I keel you. No matter how much money we pump into Africa, and we have pumped in plenty, it will leak out like a sieve and nothing will improve.

Consider the American Revolution, for instance. There was no guarantee of success, and yet, it was tried, to great effect.

Africans whine about colonialism, but where the Europeans pulled out, they installed dictators.

Choices matter.

In "Cultures and Civilizations" Sowell says that sub-saharan Africa didn't have beasts of burden because they can't survive the tse-tse fly. He goes on to note that the geographical layout isolates the interior (so much wider than long) and that there were no navigable rivers. Still doesn't explain no writing for them or the indians.

360 The difference in the long run was that everywhere except Africa embraced imported tech. Africa passed.

Compare and contrast sub-Saharan Africa with Japan.

Japan evolved an elaborate albeit feudalistic society, where IIRC the first novel was written (by a Japanese noblewoman).

In 1858 Perry forces Japan to open to the West. The Japanese go, "Holy smokes, we've got to get cracking!" and less than 50 years later had built a modern army, navy, and economy, and kicked the shit out of major European power.

Africa, not so much. Tribes still scampering around in G-strings, pretty much still in the Stone Age. Europeans barely set foot in Africa until circa 1870 ("Dr. Livingstone, I presume?), so Africans can't blame their backwardness on Europeans.

In fact, most of their progress came from being colonized. And now that the colonization era has ended, they've sunk back into the morass they started in, it's just that now they have cell phones.

Zebra's really can't be domesticated, but Africans had plenty of contacts with places that did have horses over the millenia.
===
The Saharan and Sahalan Africans did and still do have horses, which they bought and bred on their own. They then rode those horses southward and eastward to plague others and keep the Nubian Slave Dealership in business and keep the market in Ghanian gold high. Some of them were so good at the raiding and slaving they were hired by the Roman Empire and Muslim Egypt.

387 The necessity for writing is believed to have come about because of the necessity of proving ownership in a society where all wealth was derived from working the land in various ways. This is thought to have been especially true in Egypt, where the flooding of the Nile erased most physical field makers each year, thus requiring some external method of recording property boundaries, as well as making it useful to develop some form of centralized authority that could decide disputes and enforce its rulings, leading to the rise of the Pharaohs.

================

"Kuro", IIRC. They've also managed to tenatatively the word for wool, I think: "Maru", which may be of Semitic extraction as well. The Linear B corpus is predominantly composed of inventories, however more lingusitic info was extracted because
1. Linear B doesn't fit Mycenean Greek well, so it's written more phonetically, with fewer ideograms.
2. The Myceneans had the decency to list deity names and political titles.

418 The swastika on model airplanes? It depends.

There are Hasegawa kits out there with cover art showing the swastika and others it is missing from the tail, but on the decal sheet are full swastikas.

Eduard, which is a Czech company, omits the swastika on their box art but on the decal sheets are full and split swastikas.

421 Yet over and over and over scientists and studies show that there are inescapably innate differences in children, that babies do choose things that match their gender, play in ways that match their gender. Yet here we are again, and here the culture and academia and news keep pushing it, again.

I suspect that that is because many of those pushing this nonsense have never had children. They therefore presume that a child is a tabula rasa, and will adopt and play with any toy provided.

This alone proves they've never had children, or ever been around them. Provide a child with a toy he isn't interested in and watch the result.

426 Africa, not so much.

In the guitar world, honduras mahogany is like the king shit wood for guitars. The best stuff is considered long gone because of all the development, and the old growth stuff is pretty rare. One of the rarer woods Gibson used, and is still a bit hard to get is African white limba, or what they call Korina.

I was talking to a another guitar builder one day and we were talking about how Korina today even though a little harder to get is still basically as good as the older stuff. The dude asks I wonder why.

I told him its Africa, nothing changed.

453 I know Trump's Travel Ban not a muslim ban (the Left's characterization), but how is now blaming today's botched terror attack in NYC on Trump's Jerusalem announcement last week not proof that it is the muslim ideology, not country of origin, that animates terrorism?

The guy was not Palestinian. He was from Bangladesh.
Why would a Bangladeshi care about what's going on in Israel, to the point that he was willing to perform a suicide bomb attack? Why are there protests all over Europe, in NYC's Times Square, about the Jerusalem recognition?

You can't have it both ways - say you can't temporarily ban muslim vistors/immigrants to stop terrorism wile ALSO claiming Trump's recent announcement is to blame for today's and future terror attacks.
