Trump: Today We Acknowledge the Obvious -- Jerusalem Is Israel's Capital

Here's how Israel welcomes the news:

And here's how the Palestinians say hello to America:

Hamas also plans a day of rage (just one?) in Jerusalem.

Terror group Hamas is calling for a "day of rage" Friday, urging Palestinians to protest President Donald Trump’s plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the U.S. Embassy there from Tel Aviv.

The group, designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., encouraged Palestinians in an official Arabic statement to send a message "with all available means" to Israel after the upcoming Friday prayers.

It added that making Jerusalem the Israeli capital was crossing a "red line."

Then again, Hamas threatening to open the gates of hell is kind of their "Hey, 'sup" greeting:

Hamas' allies, the US and world media, were equally apocalyptic.

On Wednesday, all three network morning shows were in full panic mode over President’s Trump’s upcoming decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In the midst of the collective freak-out, hosts and correspondents warned that the "dangerous" move could lead to a "new wave of violence" across the Middle East and even inspire "terrorist attacks in the west."

Opening NBC's Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie sounded the alarm: "Controversial Move. President Trump set to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel today. Israeli officials hailing the landmark decision, other world leaders outraged. Could it lead to a new wave of violence?" Minutes later, fellow co-host Hoda Kotb fretted: "It would up-end decades of U.S. policy and is already being met with warnings that could prompt new violence and disrupt the peace process."

What peace process? The one that the Palestinians have been pantomiming (and barely even that) for 30 years without making a single concession or even acknowledging Israel's right to exist?

Reporting from Jerusalem, Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel warned: "There have already been some demonstrations, they are expected to intensify, with Palestinians calling for three days of rage if President Trump goes through with it." He added: "Palestinians took to the streets to oppose what they say is a needless and provocative move by President Trump..."

Throughout the segment, the headline on screen blared: "Trump to Recognize Jerusalem as Capital; Controversial Decision Could Lead to Upheaval."

"Breaking news, bracing for violence. The Middle East on edge this morning. Protests erupting as President Trump prepares to make that major announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel....World leaders call the decision dangerous," co-host George Stephanopoulos proclaimed at the top of ABC's Good Morning America.

Talking to Chief Global Affairs Anchor Martha Raddatz minutes later, he touted "a growing chorus of world leaders warning the President against this move"” Raddatz helpfully recited their objections...

"So it's safe to say this has alarmed leaders around the globe, George," she concluded. Stephanopoulos agreed: "It certainly has."

Note: Some of their reporting may have been provided by objective, neutral observer Peter Strzok.

Meanwhile...

As opposed to the open war the arabs have reinitiated every ten years against Israel?

and even inspire "terrorist attacks in the west."

As opposed to the terrorist attacks in the West that the arabs have been engaging in since the 70s (back before islam took the reins to lead their global terrorism - after they lost the Soviets as their main sponsor and supporter)?

If the media were really concerned about amped up terrorist attacks, they would be trying to emphasize that *nothing* is going on here that would objectively affect the Palestinian community, either in Jerusalem, the West Bank or Gaza. They'd try to downplay any Israel vs Palestine narrative similar to how they downplay Islam when there's a Muslim terror attack here, (in those cases by omitting names and saying the motive is not known).

I was raised as Evangelical as one can be and, thus, I was raised as a Zionist. This stuff and nonsense about Evangelicals supporting this to bring about the Second Coming of Christ is just that, stuff and nonsense.

Yes, there's a subset of End Times "theologians" who preach a form of near heresy in which they put this view forth. The vast majority of Evangelicals view that, rightly, as near heresy.

I think there's some overreading of people noting this is a requirement for the End Times as openly advocating for that to occur.

I don't know if I would qualify as an evangelical christian, but I certainly know and am related to quite a few. And that bit about them supporting Israel because of "end times" hooha is just one more piece of slander from the Left, along with all of the other slander that the Left smugly dumps on its enemies.

Evangelicals support Israel because they believe that the Jewish Nation is made up of God's Chosen People, because their Bible which they revere SAYS that they are God's Chosen People. And no matter what else happens, God does not take back his promises. So Israel deserves their support, because God has said they are His.

Now leftists would ask, then why aren't they Jews, if they believe that? Because you have to be born a Jew. If you are, then you are part of a Divine Plan started 4,000 years ago and probably still in for a whole lot of suffering, since that's always what has happened to the Jews, and the Books of Isaiah and Ezekiel are as good an explanation as to why as anything ever written since then. But for those who were not born into that group, there are the teachings of Jesus, and later Paul, who took the original Jewish promise and expanded it to include all people, everywhere.

That's what Evangelicals believe.

So the simple concept that they can choose their capitol makes sense.

Now for Europe ... to decide Brussels is NOT the capitol of Europe, and those (selected not elected) bureaucrats (commie oligarchs) don't have any right to demand Poland or the Czechs flood their country with Islamists.

Stausi Angela Merkel can whine with Hillary, but even her German base are tiring of her selling out their heritage. Conquering Europe via oligarch is as distasteful as her predecessors tactics.

And Trump, the single, outsider non-politician steps up and does what pretty much everyone has reneged doing. I can certainly see why the MFM and the Acela corridor is so afraid. Trump does what he says and doesn't fear them.

Yes, there's a subset of End Times "theologians" who preach a form of near heresy in which they put this view forth. The vast majority of Evangelicals view that, rightly, as near heresy.

I think there's some overreading of people noting this is a requirement for the End Times as openly advocating for that to occur.

That was the big 1st century fight that most of the book of Acts and Paul's letters are all about. The Judaizers said that gentiles had to go through the conversion process, and follow Jewish law. Paul and his followers said no, you don't have to do all of that, you can be his new thing which came to be called Christian, which did away with all of that.

After Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD, Paul and his group were dominant, and their views became the views of the new churches.

Wander through the NYC version of the gates of hell (the Upper West Side)*, and I will bet you that the vast majority of the Jews who live there firmly believe that this is the case with all Evangelical Christians.

My fvcking retard sister believes it. Although, she is so stupid that I disavow her whenever possible, and may get a DNA test to see whether we are related.

514 Something about seeing those 2 flags side by side on the walls of the old city, feels so right.

Israel, the underdog in the Middle East, and America, still the superpower.

Jews are being driven out of everywhere in the EU. The stories out of France & Germany are particularly bad. Remember the "never again" after Hitler. If I was jewish & in the EU, I'd be getting out. Even England is starting to become less safe.

Let them at least be safe in America. If the jews aren't safe, neither will be the Christians. Not at this time in history.

That's the real test. If people are smart, consistent, and willing to make a point to the NFL, they'll do something else that Sunday. No merchandizing, no tweeting about it, no support. Let them eat the consequences of their stupidity.

But I am not sanguine. I think everyone will go "just this one game" without realizing that a large chunk of the NFL's revenues come from that "one game" and that patronizing it negates a whole year's worth of anger.

Spengler (David P. Goldman) has written extensively that most European Anti-Semitism, beginning deep in the middle ages, is based on this.

The rest is based on jealousy from european princes towards people who knew how to make money from trade, and who thus kept ending up with more money than the war-mongering princes did. A good pogrom or two was always handy at redistributing some wealth from the Jews pockets into the prince's pockets.

547 But having Jewish relatives in my family, they believe this lock, stock and barrel and are far more afraid of Evangelicals then they are Islamic Extremists.

Yeah its based on stuff that happened centuries ago but its become sort of traditional. The thing is, the same sort of something was going on in non-Christian areas, too. I mean, Soviet Russia was anti-Christian, Nazi Germany was anti-Christian, as are Muslim areas. And the inquisition which was so evil to Jews was just as evil to fellow Christians, Muslims, and atheists.

And Evangelical Christians revere Israel because of a certain blend of mostly US Theology involving dispensations and a super complicated system of prophecy.

But its very hard to get Jews to recognize or admit this, particularly older ones. They were raised with horror stories of the distant past ringing in their ears.

__________________________

What b.s.

It is the muslims who are the ones engaged in myth-making.

They claim that Jerusalem is their holy city. But Muhammad never stepped foot in Jerusalem during his lifetime, and the koran never once mentions Jerusalem by name.

The muslims claim that Jerusalem is the site of the Al Aqsa mosque ("the farthest mosque") that Muhammad supposedly visited in a dream. But there were NO mosques in Jerusalem during Muhammad's lifetime, so that can't be the mosque he visited (even if you believe that "dream" visits somehow give the muzzies a claim to the site).

Contrast with the Christian Bible and the Jewish Torah, which mention Jerusalem by name hundreds of times. Also, Jerusalem is the Jews' historical city, and much of their history took place there.

It's just ridiculous that the west has indulged the muzzies' myths about Jerusalem for so many years. It belongs to the Jews. Always has.

-Irrational, loony decision by Trump

-Will lead to violence (justified)

-Incomprehensible essentially

-Brings down many decades of the status quo and for what?

-Terrible decision, but what can you expect of a President so ignorant he would deny global warming and withdraw from Paris Accords.

-Etc, etc. Not ONE dissenting non-leftist view. No counterpoint view like Shep Smith provides as a liberal counterpart for Fox.

583 Religiously, the case of the Jews is very interesting. I'm not Evangelical, but I know the Mormons are very strong supporters of Israel. Indeed, there's a little garden right outside of Jerusalem where the Israeli government has a small monument to one of the very first Mormons: Orson Hyde. Back when the Mormons were still being attacked by the United States, Orson Hyde did a trip through Europe and eventually Israel--like 1850s era, I think. He consecrated the ground for the gathering of Israel as prophesied in the Bible.

And now the LDS church has an extensive complex in Jerusalem, but no proselyting.

Funny thing, though: LDS church prophecies talk about the world eventually being ruled by two capitals: a religious one in Jerusalem, and a political capital, in the United States. It's... not as fantastic as it once seemed.

624 the Bible is a good book

but this "Jews are (present tense) God's people" thing is not exactly a new testament thing. Paul said there is neither Jew nor Gentile now, we all can be ONE by acceptance of JC.

The whole "tribe" thing would seem to be about bloodline ... but I suppose (now even with Judaism) one can join that tribe. Certainly anyone can join Christianity ... that was sorta the "upgrade" to fulfilling the law, and/or being born into "God's people" by blood.

There was always (it seems to me) a resurrection of the just -- while the unjust would be judged and die a second death. Too much tribalism has some problems.

I like Israel because they (it seems) follow OT biblical codes. If they (internally) start going too commie ... that may (or may not) be a problem. Mostly ... their biblically grounded heritage makes them good civilized allies, their own nation state.

The "God's Nation" thing ... no, that is a weird thing for Christians to assert, as I read it. JC rather straightly said the leaders (Pharisees) had been corrupted, (as can happen with any Christian "institutionalized religion" e.g. current pope pushing Marxist crap)

Individuals believe and act right, or not. Always a remnant of faithful maybe ... but not "good nation, bad nation".

654 But having Jewish relatives in my family, they believe this lock, stock and barrel and are far more afraid of Evangelicals then they are Islamic Extremists.

I think what makes everyone nervous about Jerusalem is that, thousands of years ago it was prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed, and the Jews driven out, and Israel would be scattered, but then at some point in the distant future, Jerusalem would be rebuilt, and the Jews from across the world would return, and Israel would become a strong country at the center of world affairs, once again.

Christian theologians spent a couple thousand years writing wonderful explanations as to why this was now never going to happen, that "The Promise" had now been transferred to the Gentiles through the new covenant. Martin Luther himself wrote an extensive piece arguing that it was the height of folly for any of his followers to think that Israel could ever be a living, breathing Jewish Nation again. I have heard some conspiracy conjecture, but the fact is that Pope Benedict wanted to retire before he was elected. There were all sorts of clues that he would resign: He predicted his tenure wouldn't be long, and he made some comments while visiting a site associated with Celestine, the pope who wrote the procedures for resignation before he resigned.
I didn't know until reading "In His Own Words" an interview with him that when he was elected, he was already blind in one eye and had heart troubles.I know people who were very sad when he resigned. One of the reasons that a great many people love him (including me) is that he had been a teacher for so long that he wrote and spoke as someone who loved Jesus and wanted others to understand Scripture and to embrace Jesus.

There are passages where Christ criticizes the Pharisees, similar to how prophets criticized their leaders, but there is nothing really antisemitic about it, quite the reverse (Jesus often says things like "Do not be like the gentiles..." or refers to Jews as "children" in Matthew). Therefore Christianity is reformable, which is why it was able to be argued out of antisemitism that existed within various communities here and there. I don't think Islam is similarly reformable, because their texts contain explicit antisemitism (like that Hadith passage "the trees and rocks will say, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come kill him"). You can't argue that away.

"Some" (again hard for me to discern if this is a majority) see a coming messiah as not a perfect "man", but as a strong leader that puts Jerusalem as the global leader ... if not a sort of "capitol of the world" kinda thing. Reasserting global dominance.

I'm curious as to how many see it that way ... and that would make sense as to why Netanyahu said we should take in Islmasists, while they would retain their Jewish dominance. (because we are "lessers", just Gentiles)

Liberal Christianity has run along similar lines. They don't believe in literal miracles.

As to the afterlife, it seems odd in that it seems like the Sadducee view, and I thought that sect had gone away after the second temple was destroyed. They offer nothing, ever. no compromise, just an offer to temporarily behave, until something else upsets them. Screw it.

724 719 No divine intervention. The prophets were anointed by God. Is that not divine intervention?

If they were successful prophets, and inspired positive things, there was no harm in giving them a nice label and a place in history. What jews believed a thousand or more years ago, is not (for the most part) believed today. It has been reinterpreted. Our rabbi, has also purged the prayerbook of hes, hims and lords.

725 As for me, I will probably move further away from a faith that has become "sociology". The use of Tikkun Olam, is just a more palatable way of saying "socialism", you don't get a big salary and donations for preaching that shit, huh?

726 >> 712 The Sadduccees are the Jewish sect that did not believe in the after life.

"Which is sad you see.

get it? get it?"

^ How I remember our priest explaining it during a homily years ago.

Waiting for the laughs, not hearing them, saying "get it? get it?" again, pausing, then people laughing because it got awkward.

727 Anyone see Alan Dershowitz last night saying that this was the perfect response to obama's parting FU to Israel at the United Nations? Double perfect and an FU right back at the former anti-Semite in chief.
As an ex-dem, it never ceases to amaze me how fellow members of my tribe could not see what was so blatantly obvious to me. Obama was the biggest antisemite and Israel hater who had ever run for president.

729 When Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptized, John said:

"Behold! The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."

Thousands of lambs were sacrificed in the temple and before, indicating the innocent dying in the place of the sinner, but they were just a bloody symbol of the consequence of rebellion against God.

Jesus is the only and sufficient and final sin-bearer.
