If the media were really concerned about amped up terrorist attacks, they would be trying to emphasize that *nothing* is going on here that would objectively affect the Palestinian community, either in Jerusalem, the West Bank or Gaza. They'd try to downplay any Israel vs Palestine narrative similar to how they downplay Islam when there's a Muslim terror attack here, (in those cases by omitting names and saying the motive is not known).

I don't know if I would qualify as an evangelical christian, but I certainly know and am related to quite a few. And that bit about them supporting Israel because of "end times" hooha is just one more piece of slander from the Left, along with all of the other slander that the Left smugly dumps on its enemies.
Evangelicals support Israel because they believe that the Jewish Nation is made up of God's Chosen People, because their Bible which they revere SAYS that they are God's Chosen People. And no matter what else happens, God does not take back his promises. So Israel deserves their support, because God has said they are His.
Now leftists would ask, then why aren't they Jews, if they believe that? Because you have to be born a Jew. If you are, then you are part of a Divine Plan started 4,000 years ago and probably still in for a whole lot of suffering, since that's always what has happened to the Jews, and the Books of Isaiah and Ezekiel are as good an explanation as to why as anything ever written since then. But for those who were not born into that group, there are the teachings of Jesus, and later Paul, who took the original Jewish promise and expanded it to include all people, everywhere.
That's what Evangelicals believe.

I saw a protest against a gas pipeline in TX, and sure enough, somehow the geniuses running the thing thought Palestinians somehow fit into this. I got a big laugh out of it. That was the big 1st century fight that most of the book of Acts and Paul's letters are all about. The Judaizers said that gentiles had to go through the conversion process, and follow Jewish law. Paul and his followers said no, you don't have to do all of that, you can be his new thing which came to be called Christian, which did away with all of that.

Yeah its based on stuff that happened centuries ago but its become sort of traditional. The thing is, the same sort of something was going on in non-Christian areas, too. I mean, Soviet Russia was anti-Christian, Nazi Germany was anti-Christian, as are Muslim areas. And the inquisition which was so evil to Jews was just as evil to fellow Christians, Muslims, and atheists.
And Evangelical Christians revere Israel because of a certain blend of mostly US Theology involving dispensations and a super complicated system of prophecy.
But its very hard to get Jews to recognize or admit this, particularly older ones. They were raised with horror stories of the distant past ringing in their ears.

But there were NO mosques in Jerusalem during Muhammad's lifetime, so that can't be the mosque he visited (even if you believe that "dream" visits somehow give the muzzies a claim to the site).
Contrast with the Christian Bible and the Jewish Torah, which mention Jerusalem by name hundreds of times. Also, Jerusalem is the Jews' historical city, and much of their history took place there.
It's just ridiculous that the west has indulged the muzzies' myths about Jerusalem for so many years. It belongs to the Jews. Always has.

The whole "tribe" thing would seem to be about bloodline ... but I suppose (now even with Judaism) one can join that tribe. Certainly anyone can join Christianity ... that was sorta the "upgrade" to fulfilling the law, and/or being born into "God's people" by blood.
There was always (it seems to me) a resurrection of the just -- while the unjust would be judged and die a second death. Too much tribalism has some problems.
I like Israel because they (it seems) follow OT biblical codes. If they (internally) start going too commie ... that may (or may not) be a problem. Mostly ... their biblically grounded heritage makes them good civilized allies, their own nation state.
The "God's Nation" thing ... no, that is a weird thing for Christians to assert, as I read it. JC rather straightly said the leaders (Pharisees) had been corrupted, (as can happen with any Christian "institutionalized religion" e.g. current pope pushing Marxist crap)
Individuals believe and act right, or not. Always a remnant of faithful maybe ... but not "good nation, bad nation".

Yeah its based on stuff that happened centuries ago but its become sort of traditional. The thing is, the same sort of something was going on in non-Christian areas, too. I mean, Soviet Russia was anti-Christian, Nazi Germany was anti-Christian, as are Muslim areas. And the inquisition which was so evil to Jews was just as evil to fellow Christians, Muslims, and atheists.
And Evangelical Christians revere Israel because of a certain blend of mostly US Theology involving dispensations and a super complicated system of prophecy.
But its very hard to get Jews to recognize or admit this, particularly older ones. They were raised with horror stories of the distant past ringing in their ears.

I think what makes everyone nervous about Jerusalem is that, thousands of years ago it was prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed, and the Jews driven out, and Israel would be scattered, but then at some point in the distant future, Jerusalem would be rebuilt, and the Jews from across the world would return, and Israel would become a strong country at the center of world affairs, once again.
Christian theologians spent a couple thousand years writing wonderful explanations as to why this was now never going to happen, that "The Promise" had now been transferred to the Gentiles through the new covenant. Martin Luther himself wrote an extensive piece arguing that it was the height of folly for any of his followers to think that Israel could ever be a living, breathing Jewish Nation again. Couldn't happen, wouldn't happen.
Well, look where we are. Huh. Literally, no one saw that coming. Except the guys 2,000 years ago.

In the limited reading and discussions I've had with scholars, the End Times thing is a fairly recent development. The interpretation taking hold only in the last 50-75 years...or maybe popularized during that period.
But it does appear popular among Evangelical Christians. Can't speak about other religions. And, like I said, it's my limited & anecdotal knowledge speaking here.
I finally decided I am having a hard enough time living day to day, so I'm gonna focus on that.

Obama was well liked by world leaders, but not respected. Yes, I would like our President to be both, but since he hasn't been liked, it's good to go for respect. To be liked he'd have to grovel...that's like appeasement. Doesn't work.

I have heard some conspiracy conjecture, but the fact is that Pope Benedict wanted to retire before he was elected. There were all sorts of clues that he would resign: He predicted his tenure wouldn't be long, and he made some comments while visiting a site associated with Celestine, the pope who wrote the procedures for resignation before he resigned.
I didn't know until reading "In His Own Words" an interview with him that when he was elected, he was already blind in one eye and had heart troubles.I know people who were very sad when he resigned. One of the reasons that a great many people love him (including me) is that he had been a teacher for so long that he wrote and spoke as someone who loved Jesus and wanted others to understand Scripture and to embrace Jesus.

There are passages where Christ criticizes the Pharisees, similar to how prophets criticized their leaders, but there is nothing really antisemitic about it, quite the reverse (Jesus often says things like "Do not be like the gentiles..." or refers to Jews as "children" in Matthew). Therefore Christianity is reformable, which is why it was able to be argued out of antisemitism that existed within various communities here and there. I don't think Islam is similarly reformable, because their texts contain explicit antisemitism (like that Hadith passage "the trees and rocks will say, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come kill him"). You can't argue that away.

I'm curious on all that. I know some that say ... nope ... no afterlife. But many do believe ... as I read it David believed, others. For some it is more "a club", like the Masonic Lodge or something. (some I know, not speaking for "the Jews")
"Some" (again hard for me to discern if this is a majority) see a coming messiah as not a perfect "man", but as a strong leader that puts Jerusalem as the global leader ... if not a sort of "capitol of the world" kinda thing. Reasserting global dominance.
I'm curious as to how many see it that way ... and that would make sense as to why Netanyahu said we should take in Islmasists, while they would retain their Jewish dominance. (because we are "lessers", just Gentiles)

Liberal Christianity has run along similar lines. They don't believe in literal miracles.
As to the afterlife, it seems odd in that it seems like the Sadducee view, and I thought that sect had gone away after the second temple was destroyed. Although it could just be modern secular Jews re-adopting that principle. The Torah doesn't really say anything about the afterlife. There are other passages (Samuel's shade) that may hint at it outside the Torah.

If they were successful prophets, and inspired positive things, there was no harm in giving them a nice label and a place in history. What jews believed a thousand or more years ago, is not (for the most part) believed today. It has been reinterpreted. Our rabbi, has also purged the prayerbook of hes, hims and lords.
