The left normally understands the value of timing - which is why the Roy Moore allegations just came out. (Even then, I would say they're losing their touch. Should have waited until about 1 and a half weeks before the election, like they did with Dubya and the drunk driving allegations. Enough time to get the word out and smear the candidate - not enough time to mount an effective rebuttal. )

Read one of Travis' ESPN analyses, seems he thinks they are doome for fundamental, not political, reasons. Same reason newspapers and some other legacy media are in trouble, actually. Much more the biz model changes than their wildly unprofessional, distorted version of journalism, probably. Impossible to quantify or prove, but anecdotal evidence is overwhelming.

It is my understanding that many NFL season ticket holders only go to a few games. They make money by selling the tickets to finance the games they go to or to make extra money.
Now it is one thing when you might break even but it is another story entirely when you are actually losing money on the proposition.
Even breaking even would be pointless since you have to expend time and energy which would still be a technical loss.
And I've also read stories about bars and restaurants that play the games being near empty because of the protests. Again, it is my understanding that these establishments pay a fee to get a package that allows the games to be played. I could be wrong here.
So I figure that there will be a lot of season ticket holders not renewing and a lot of sports bars not paying the fee for games.
That means the death spiral is only beginning. The season ticket holders and the sports bar situation hasn't been factored in yet.

On the "professional" bit, seems the NFL's degradation just mirrors that of much of society. The stupid "celebration" after 78% of all plays, things like that. Interesting that such crap is not allowed in other levels of the sport, or in other sports, generally.
But my favorite is the unsportsmanlike penalties costing teams games. Even key games, playoff games. Astonishing.
And (maybe only a Chargers issue, seen the last few seasons) also the inability to even run a team as well as a good high school team - not being able to organize and field your 2-minute offense, personnel mix-ups leading to penalties and wasted time-outs, things like that.

They've lost their ability to run the big sports with each one building their own network. Fine, just do wrap up stuff and maybe one show a week on each sport. But go for the rest of the sports. Don't try to build your network around tentpoles, it doesn't work any more. You can't run the best baseball and football games any longer, the leagues don't need you now.
Just run sports, and love of sports and people who love and play sports. Look at what the league channels are doing. MLB is freaking great, emulate that. Don't keep doing what you are now, for crying out loud. Its like watching someone commit suicide with sandpaper.

It was actually pretty cool. Those hillbillies were incredible at shooting those little marbles around.
They ran a Magic the Gathering tournament too, and that was horrendous. It was obvious the announcers know jack about the game and it was boring as watching paint dry.

MtG is hard to do well. The Pro Tour puts up about 50k viewers on twitch, and regularly gets flack for production. It's an issue with the hidden information, where often it's really hard to have the camera see what cards are all in the players' hands. It'd be like poker if the little cameras they have in the table didn't work half the time.

Outnumbered at noon showed a clip of a Democrat Congresswoman from Virginia who walked out of a meeting with Nancy Pelosi over how stupid it was. She was livid. She said there was no discussion of forcing out Franken and Conyers and she was basically told to stop trying to bring it up. Judge N said she is a former prosecutor and a straight up by the rules person (why she's a Democrat might be a question to pose to her) and he applauded her for standing by her principles against the Queen.
I have to say, I was impressed that she was correctly pissed off at the right people and for the right reasons.

Gah. I am a huge tennis fan and ESPN's main tennis coverage is just horrible. What's interesting is that the covering on WatchESPN is usually top notch. Basically all the courts, most of them with commentary by people who know tennis and aren't intrusive about it, good to excellent camera work.
But, the main coverage? Here, let's show these four people talking about Serena Williams and Roger Federer no matter what is going on in the matches, cut to a match for three seconds, and then back to fluffing Serena and Roger.

It's the Colin Cowherd strategy of covering sports. For the little bit of time I used to listen to Cowherd on the radio, he basically said that ESPN only covering the Yankees and Red Sox made sense because they were the only teams that mattered. In other words only focus on the top dogs. However, you can't do that in sports because if the other teams in the league are worthless, your sports league is worthless.
