1 Good Morning Morons today is Saturday, November 25, 2017. On this day in 1915 Albert Einstein presented his field equations of general relativity to the Prussian Academy of Sciences. One of the most famous of these equation's outcomes is the E=mC^2 approximation of mass - energy equivalence.

6 AP is still pushing the BS lie that Bubba Clinton ended welfare "as we know it". In fact Clinton vetoed the bill that somewhat rolled it back twice before Congress sent it to him veto proof. Welfare has never ended, they only moved it mostly to the children. Now Trump wants to end that.

WASHINGTON (AP) Overhauling welfare was one of the defining goals of Bill Clinton's presidency, starting with a campaign promise to "end welfare as we know it," continuing with a bitter policy fight and producing change that remains hotly debated 20 years later.

Now, President Donald Trump wants to put his stamp on the welfare system, apparently in favor of a more restrictive policy. He says "people are taking advantage of the system."

If you get the idea that AP doesn't want any more changes to welfare you would be right.

Friday on Fox News Channel's Fox Friends, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said evidence had been uncovered showing that the FBI gave the investigation of 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's improper use of an unauthorized email server while secretary of state a 'special status.'

Gaetz has a CR rating of 100 so he is a solid conservative.

Horrific. I'm in WNY and saw that on the news.

And the guy lives right down where everyone from the cities and towns in WNY goes hunting. Ridiculous amount space for legal hunting right on his f'ing doorstep and he shoots on someone else's residential property (illegal) after sunset (illegal.)

This tragedy is so completely unnecessary. *spit*

38 Over the last 8 or 9 years we have completely destroyed the basic idea of welfare. Obamacare allowed 32 state to now include single, able-bodied, childless people to enroll in local Medicaid programs. The original assumptions in welfare are that we help children and women and disabled. Now it is just an uncontrolled program where we lump in everyone under a certain threshold (based on the state) and the federal government throws boatloads of money into the pot and the state fills in 10%. Watch and wait! When the feds drop by funding you will see states having to make some tough choices.

Someone posted a link a couple of years ago where a study was done and they estimated at least 50% of the people on disability were on it because of fraud and abuse by crooked doctors. One woman from Detroit was collecting $75K/year from welfare and disability for her many children with no father. They had ADD. Children are not even supposed to be able to draw disability.

There are something like seven different methods to withhold taxes that are acceptable to the IRS. One of them is the percentage method. That prevents a suddenly larger check from kicking withholding into a larger bracket and eating up the overtime earnings.

Since I was reprogramming the payroll system I went to that method. If I needed an employee to work OT, damnit, I wasn't going to have him lose money on the deal. Most people were withheld at between 8% to 15%. Just enough to get a small refund every year. If an employee earned an extra $200 in overtime one week, at least he got about $170 in return. Problem with employees wanting to work overtime? Solved.

You'd think the percentage method would be more popular but seems like everyone uses the IRS table method which sucks donkey ass.

72 Speaking of disability.... my daughter (22), who is autistic, is enrolled in a program that is supposed to be trying to find her a permanent "real" job in the community (i.e. with a local business). They have tried her out with several different kinds of tasks like stocking shelves, cleaning, etc. and she does well, but they can't seem to find any businesses with available openings. In the meantime, we PAY $400 a month for her to be able to go to a sheltered workshop 2 days a week, making pet treats and sorting nuts and bolts, so she can have something to keep her occupied. She gets paid at a piecework rate that is way below minimum wage -- workshops for the disabled can do this somehow-- but at least she is earning something, she likes what she does and she's getting accustomed to having outside responsibilities. We pay for it, as much as we can reasonably afford, because our daughter doesn't qualify for the state subsidy that supports the workshop. Something seems wrong with this picture but I'm not sure what to do about it.

Screwed me out of a metric butt ton of OT pay that way because in CT you only get OT after 40 hours in a week, some States it kicks in after 8 hour daily shifts. I quit after six months of that and told them why.

Twenty years ago your daughter would have found a full time job in a manufacturing plant, with paid vacation and health benefits. The pay would probably have been about 1.5 X minimum wage.

I owned one and we had many handicapped people.

Then Bill Clinton sold US manufacturing to the Chinese for campaign contributions. It took 60,000 factories to close before anyone noticed.

79 Chesterton's Fence:
In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.

Which took longer, plus had to answer stupid questions thru out to make sure you were paying attention to the drivel

Our legal ethics' compliance annual survey used to be a gimme: one page of questions with "correct" answers being "Y", followed by a string of "N"s and then finishing off with a "Y" and your signature. Worked like a charm for years. Then, out of the blue, they videomacated it and our time devoted to meaningful work took a not insignificant hit. Progress: there's no stopping it!

86 Don't know Marley hardly at all Skip. Don't care at all for the genre so can't really have an opinion.

Bruce gave us an absolute rock anthem, though he went downhill after that album, so I'd at least have to move him out of the "bottom" five.

Pink Floyd and The Doors definitely have to come off that list.
Move any two 80's heavy metal bands onto in their place.

The need to end welfare period. There is no reason that we have to pay for all of our own expenses and the government takes our money and gives it to people who think they have every right to sit on their asses for life and live off of our tax dollars.

105 "State law here. Two hours of training every 2 years. "

What idiocy - here's all the training anyone needs: Don't do it. There. You're trained.

This is just a way to mandate money to a pack of so-called "trainers" who do nothing but pontificate and waste everyone's time.

here's how a rational society would handle the matter:

Publish the expected standards.

Enforce the standards publicly, by immediately terminating anyone at any level in any job who is credibly found (ie, multiple witnesses) to have done such a thing. ESPECIALLY if the person has a high profile, powerful job.

Once enforcement is expected and applied vigorously, people will very quickly make an effort to learn what they should do and what they shouldn't, without any "training".

We don't have "mandatory training" on how not to rob banks.

Rise up this mornin',

Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou: "

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!
Every little thing gonna be all right. Don't worry! "
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing" - I won't worry!
"'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

I agree, Waters has really gone off the deep end with his monomania. But they put out some truly great stuff. I don't they're overrated.

Most of their best songs were co-written by Gilmour anyway. Since he's the common denominator, I suspect he's mostly responsible for them.

117 "114 Chesterton's gate is something which is totally ignored by leading Progressives of today. "

It was ignored by leading Progressives of his day as well. That's why he made such a point of it.

Part of the entire Progressive belief system is that they are Smarter and Wiser and more Modern than any generation that has ever come before them in the History of the Earth - therefore whatever they think up must be better than anything that has ever been thought by anyone who was born before they were.

It's really nothing more than teenage narcism turned into a political theory.

I disagree. I'm only disagreeing because you're wrong. That doesn't sound as polite as I meant it to be. You're wrong wrong wrong. Hmmm. Not better.

Anyway, lots of people have covered Dylan songs. What you end up with is the Byrds. They sing great and have four part harmony and the whole shebang sounds sweet and smooth and the lyrics are just words that go along with the music. The feeling is lost and certainly the attention to the words is lessened.

Dylan is a poet and a troubadour. When he sings his own songs they get right into your soul.

OK, not your soul. My soul.
