Some ESPN Personnel Sending Out Resumes In Anticipation of Next Huge Round of Layoffs

A bankrupt ideology leads to... well, pretty obvious, isn't it?

In the next few weeks, the Worldwide Leader is expected to undergo another round of massive layoffs -- Sporting News cites 40-60 layoffs coming, with Sports Illustrated reporting the number will exceed 100 -- and the next wave of who’s-next worry has many scanning their options.

According to a Monday Sporting News report, which cited a source at a rival network, some ESPN staffers already are sending out "just-in-case" resumes to competitors such as FS1, NBCSN and Turner Sports.

"The narrative from many long-timers still there is: 'I know my day is coming. It's not if. It's when,'" another source told the site.

The SJW Clownshow Sports Center is expected to face some of the deepest cuts.

But whyyyyyyyy????!!!!

Bonus, via Instapundit: ESPN hosts insists that no one he knows has stopped watching ESPN, and never will, because what would people do without television at night?

5 I only watch ESPN if the Detroit Tigers are playing the Sunday evening game. Afterward, I quickly change the channel. I haven't watched them for anything else in several years. And I don't have cable so I don't pay for them either.

6 ESPN has about 4,000 employees, so, by itself this is a nothing burger. I wouldn't be surprised if those fired aren't random, and won't include many SJW warriors who are often a protected class.

62 I've been living the 'Life After Cable' lifestyle now for nearly nine months, and I can say I don't miss the things I used to 'watch' one damned bit. I've found a lot of things using the OTA (Over-The-Air) technique that I used to watch a long time ago (say 'Johnny Carson' or 'Twilight Zone') on free channels. My total investment was less than $30 for the antenna and amplifier combination. That saved me roughly $100/mo I used to pay Comcast. All I use 'em for now is internet, and as soon as ATT's fiber-optic is activated in my community, I'm gone from Comcast forever. As for 'sports' ... ? HA. I can't even begin to talk about Kodi and the '400' level of add-ons to streaming. I think their eyes would glaze over.

104 Been 4 years since I cut the cord. I was paying DirecTV $120/month. One day I realized the only reason I was watching a show at any particular time is because it was the least crappy thing on, and I was only watching because I felt I needed to get my $120 worth for the month. Now I have Roku and pay $10/month for Netflix and have access to Amazon Prime. I only watch what really interests me, and if I don't watch for a month, it's only $10.

185 I like to do my own little part to fight back - or at least make myself feel good by virtue signaling. There is an Irish Pub where I like to go for lunch that generally has the TVs tuned to sports. I go there regularly enough that the bartenders and dayshift manager knows me.

Any time that SportsCenter is on, I make a request for the channel to be changed. I generally say, "Hey, is there a live game you could play instead" and the bartender is happy to find something else. In reality, I don't care what is on the TV - since I just ignore it.

The other day, as I was walking in, there was a huge panel discussion about the NFL Protests and one of the anchors was going on and on about Trump. As I got to the bar, I said, "Oh give it a fucking rest, I can't stand these fuckers blathering on about politics." The Manager said, "Yeah, so-and-so is pretty fired up" and just turned around and went about cleaning up some stuff. The bartender looked at me and I said, "I'm gonna go see what they have on at Legends" - the bar next door - and I turned around and left.

I think I've only seen SportsCenter on the Irish Pub TV once or twice since then. They have actually started leaving it tuned to FS1 instead. I guess being a cranky asshole pays off ;-)

191 ESPN : Sporting Event :: VAT : Product

No one gives a fig what the personalities have to say or what the graphics department conjures. Viewers are there for the event. The Value Added Content is the noise they have to put up with to get to the entertainment. It's like suffering an imposed tax.

ESPN, you're supposed to be a SPORTS network. It's in the name. Show sports and get out of the way.

And that's its problem. It is now a race between the sport and the social justice warrioring to be the headline. Meh. Sports is losing and now people don't care. Way to go, pinheads. You've managed to kill a golden goose.

Hey ESPN your demo is male sports viewers. Do they have a ESPN 5 they could call it the V and market that directly to women and see how it stacks up to a male targeted demo.

I watched a half of football Sunday night. In one commercial set all the ads were 100% targeted toward women complete with the idiot men meme. The next set was 70% women. (The beer company ad with the hot 27 yo chick CEO? What and who are they even selling?) Not that there is anything wrong with that. Don't be surprised, though, that as male viewers drop out women don't step up and watch more, and the women will follow the male exodus.

We all know that finding a good paying job can be tough. Many of us have worked for companies that we didn't believe in, just because "that's where the work was, and I needed a job."

Yes, ESPN is filled with a lot of jerks, and a lot of these people have directly contributed to the collapse. However, do we really believe that ALL of the 100 (estimated) people are jerks?

When you read about the situation in Venezuela, remember that not all of them voted for this catastrophe. Not all Californians are self destructive. Plenty of "Republicans" drive you crazy every day.

And you know I'm tired of some trying to turn all this into a "this is an attack on relationships between men and women an you're helping!" that some are pushing. No these are perverts getting their rocks off at work. This is not some spring break party in Cancun where everyone is there and knows they're going to be hooking up. When I wake up at night it's off to Kodi (streaming) for something more esoteric.

But 'regular' cable television with it's 400 channels of real-time junk? It's dead to me. I really question why people pay $150 a month or more for such garbage.

Is this actually true, though? Obviously there's some confirmation bias here, but I can point you to tons of well-written, well-researched, thoughtful, artful, long-form pieces of sports journalism written in the era of clickbait Buzzfeed garbage. I think it would be difficult to find that many "hard news" equivalents, even though hard news journalism outnumbers sports journalism by a pretty large number.

Right, they say to the cable distributors "buy it all or buy nothing" then they negotiate from there.

If they went direct to consumer, most of their channels would fail immediately because no one would pay $5 a month or whatever for, say, FXX

I expect that Trump is actually big on tradition if its American or Presidential traditions. Like it or not that dumb turkey pardoning ceremony is a presidential tradition. The press dinner isn't a presidential tradition, its a time for the press to talk about how wonderful they are, and he doesn't think they're wonderful so he's not going to go to their stupid party where they talk about how amazing they are while bashing him.

The Forensic Files are interesting enough *more on that later* but the ads are wrist slitting awful. They're either SJW crap, Impeach Trump pleas, or really annoying "you must be an aging woman" ads.

And Forensic Files, for all its interest, goes a bit too far selling the "forensics" aspect. A good 30% of the cases or more were solved through just gold old fashioned police work, not the forensics.

The first GQ I recall reading was three decades ago. It featured all the fashion ads, as well as tips for men how to be suave and debonair, and adventure activity articles. You had the feeling that Ian Fleming's "James Bond" character was the role model for the men. Not realistic, of course, but at least something a normal man would want to read.

What I have run across more recently in waiting rooms? Pouty poofy men, scented ads, articles leftish and "gay friendly". One got the feeling there was a subliminal message telling you to bend over and vaseline your squeakhole.

Bottom line ESPN - don't get political unless that political is support for apple pie, mom, and the USA. or, at the very least, strive for some sort of balance. In fact, there is some advice right there - people don't mind a debate, but they get pissed as hell over lectures. So if you want to discuss the kneeling, and BLM, or whatnot, make absolutely sure both sides are heard, and that both sides are 100% respectful of the others opinion. If you can't do that, then the topic is off limits.

Chris Berman is unashamed about one particular fetish: he LOVES the powder-blue jerseys of the Chargers (wherever they are playing - Los Angeles, San Diego, Tijuana). Whenever the team wears them, and he's covering the game, HE WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THEM, which suggests to me just the sight of one of them on a football player makes him uncontrollably horny.

(If he got run from the network, it would be a classic example of addition by subtraction.)
