Posted by: ace at October 31, 2017 08:20 PM (8rNrN) --Deserve's got nuthin' to do with it. (At least that's what I thought about the Yankees in 2001.) Still, unlike NYC, Houston has had a striking lack of championships. Rockets last won their (only?) titles in 1994-95, thanks to Michael Jordan's stint with the Birmingham Barons. Neither the Oilers nor the Texans have even played in the Super Bowl. AFAIK the University of Houston never won a championship (though Andre Ware won a Heisman). Pretty pathetic for such a big city. Critical 2 innings for Dodgers. Hill usually doesn't get through 6 innings. Verlander looks great, but pitch count is a bit high (though he can easily get up to 120+ tonight). I know the Astros don't want to get into their pen prior to the 8th and would hope Verlander could get a complete game (So rare in today's game)...

I had a friend that loved VWs. The engine went out on a trip to CA. He got back up to WA state, picked up a rebuilt engine and got back down to the van. Put in the new engine and started back home. It caught on fire. That was the last VW he owned.
I had one that was aptly named Hitler's Revenge. I left it by Bridge of the Gods. I put the title in the glove box and wrote "Title in glove box" on the side using a lumber crayon. When I went back there in a half hour, it was gone. And that was my last VW. Posted by: notsothoreau at October 31, 2017 09:35 PM (JKNZq) 146

It seems like the umpiring has been quite good for a few years now, especially with instant replay validation. It pretty much removes outright game-fixing. Basketball officiating is the worst (and probably the most difficult). But football was getting pretty bogged down with Instant Replay. They may have gone a bridge too far. I guess someone who still watches it could offer a current opinion. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at October 31, 2017 09:36 PM (H8S+R) 148

When the whole kneeling thing blew up in the NFL a month or so ago, I wrote letters expressing my done-ness with the NFL, addressed to:
NFL NFLPA Kansas City Chiefs Denver Broncos. Of the four, only the Broncos gave me the courtesy of a response. An inadequate response for sure (they "request" that their players respect the National Anthem but "respect" the player's bullshirt "free speech" rights) but at least it was a response. And of course, I live in suburban KC and added to the Chiefs letter that I would vigorously oppose any public funding for any stadium improvements. They probably didn't like that very much. Heh.
