Poll: Americans Becoming Distrustful of Big Tech

Okay, that's an Onion parody of Amazon's new proposal whereby you give them an electronic key to your house so they can walk in and deliver your packages to the inside of your home, and maybe take your children for their fabrication plants in Singapore.

But people are turning on Big Tech. Time for some regulation and forced break-ups, I say.

Huge corporations that propagandize for socialist control should get the first taste of it themselves.

Americans are starting to sour on some of the biggest tech companies in the U.S., according to a poll by the tech outlet The Verge.

Many Facebook users, for example, don’t believe the social media company properly handles data, with roughly 30 percent of respondents saying they either "greatly distrust" or "somewhat distrust" it with their personal information. Almost an equal number of participants of the study said the same of Twitter....

Furthermore, most people who don't use Facebook said they don't trust it.....

All I know is, the #NewRule says that if something makes you feel #Unsafe, you make it illegal.

Just sayin'.

15 Seriously, what's so hard about Amazon selling you a little cratey thing to install behind your mailbox with a sturdy electronic lock on it?

Throw the packages in there. Badabing, problem solved. They'll even get a little bit of revenue from you buying it if you opt in to that program.

What a marketing blunder this whole program is.

31 The best way to restore public faith in government institutions is to send Hillary to prison, according to Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman, who warns that unless the former First Lady's crimes are seen to be punished, everyday Americans will forever know, deep down, that there is one law for those with money and power, and another for the rest of us.

Hillary should be in jail for her unlawful deeds and President Trump should absolutely, absolutely make sure this happens to send the very strong message that no-one, and I mean no-one, is above the law in the United States of America, Morgan Freeman said in New York while promoting National Geographic's new docu-series The Story of Us.

Responding to a question about why he thinks President Trump has not yet fulfilled this particular campaign promise, Freeman laughed and said and looked up at the heavens before saying, Goddamnit man, you were elected for this very reason, lock that bitch up!

After being accused of political incorrectness, Freeman laughed again, saying It's all about being loving and caring these days, isn't it?

The most loving and caring thing we as a society can do for Hillary Clinton is lock her up where she can get professional and institutional help and prevent her hurting herself or anyone else.

53 Unless you've been in the industry, you have no idea how much Large companies collude with the Federal Government.

They scratch each others backs... constantly....

Big Tech gives the government plausibly deniable access to data... and Government then gives them sweetheart deals... and LARGE purchases.

Because the Feds have decided that if the information is held by a third party, it does NOT need a Warrant to get said data.

Oh, and if you do not access data for 6 months? its also no longer considered private...

Yet somehow... they are not catching bad guys... terrorists... Illegals... druggies....

They just seem to HAVE the data... without doing a damn thing with it.

A. Be required to supply a copy of what they have to you on demand. And be required to correct or redact certain parts.

B. Be held accountable monetarily if they are hacked by any means. None of this "subscription to a monitoring service" crap.

C. Should pay you a fee for selling your data to other companies.

But Congress is a bunch of dumbasses and they're on the payroll anyway.

NEVER auto renew a domain. (well you know that now.)

They rip you and might add stuff because you forgot and didn't uncheck some box when you first signed up.

Don't let them own your domain name so as to hide your name.

The law is that if it's in their name, they own the domain name and can do whatever they like.

Your online contract is only worth the paper it's written on.

111 The best way to restore public faith in government institutions is to send Hillary to prison, according to Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman, who warns that unless the former First Lady's crimes are seen to be punished, everyday Americans will forever know, deep down, that there is one law for those with money and power, and another for the rest of us.

I like Morgan Freeman more and more each day.

But this is only the second best way to restore public faith. Locking up Barky for his many, many, many crimes would be the best way.

I'm in full agreement, Steve. I loathe most government regulation and don't want to be goaded into it just to take out a couple of douchebag companies. As long as the market is kept free these companies will eventually be done in by others and a changing environment. Government regulation to try and kill them is more likely, even, to make them last longer than they would, naturally.

As to breaking them up ... I lean against that - not as hard against it as I am against instituting new regulations targeted at them, but against, nonetheless.

We're still in the infancy of the internet, where people get stuck to the first company they deal with and don't stray. That will change as people adopt more mature attitudes about online commerce.

The monopolies have to be broken up by the Government because the people can't do it themselves as the monopolies have made themselves such an important part of living.

I tried going without Internet for 1 year and it was very very difficult and I only lasted as long as I did because of free wifi at Walmart and the Library.

And then break them up so they are smaller and cannot connive together to keep prices artificially high, restrict what tech can or cannot be used, increase the prices of various services without any safe guards or rules.

I watched a few of them and the ones I saw were inside peoples' homes. You could see a woman sitting in a chair watching the television, for example. What was worse is that in a few you could see children or even a toddler's crib.

Yes, I did. I was a bit late because a visiting nurse came by to drain the PleurX catheter that was installed in my chest. The first visit is always longer because of the paperwork, questions, etc. I'll need to have the nurses do it a few times, but the goal is to eventually teach me to do it by myself.

Once I got to work I spent the day digging out of the work that had been piling up for the past week. My boss had hired a young guy to fill in for me, but he really didn't know how to do much. While I was in the hospital he called me with questions and I talked him through some procedures.

By the time I left work today I think things were getting back to normal.

We saw during the Obama years how race-baiting was taken to astonishing lengths to boost black turnout (i.e., robotic Dem votes) - how, gobsmackingly, Hillary even played nice with a vile racist outfit with lots of police blood on its hands (BLM).

But I'd guess there are "new" votes to be mined out there, not just old ones to turn out. And recall the Latino vote is the new teen craze, given demographic trends. Not as robotic/monolithic a vote, but pretty bad. And division/resentment/ethnic identification - the racist formula the Dems are relying on - has a very rich environment in the Latino community.

And yet the Salon Hot 25 will continue to whine, bizarrely, about "divisiveness" and "demagoguery" from ...... Trump.

272 True story from the Battle of Okinawa.

When the Marines captured Shuri Castle, they were taking fire from our own ships off shore. No US flag was handy, but one of the Marines had a Confederate flag. They hoisted that over the castle.

I've been watching this stuff pretty intently since last fall because I'm a politics nerd and it became pretty obvious in the summer that this was not going the way the media kept saying it was going.

When the big news hit in msm articles about Manafort being investigated buried down in paragraph 12 was always a quote about Podesta and potentially other groups also being investigated. But that never made the nightly news, just the Manafort part did.

When the indictment came out today and it was all about Manafort activities around the Uranium One time and nothing during the election and it included 2 2 other companies, I knew.

The genie is out of the bottle and it isn't going back.

Less and less LAW and more and more MEN.

Too much power in the hands of unelected District Attorneys. (many are but they are slaves to the Machine)

Ironically, I had decided to try to keep up with the leaves this year instead of waiting for all of them to fall and then cleaning them up.

I was having some success with using the bagging attachment with my lawnmower to pick up the leaves. But before I went in the hospital, I was so weak with breathing problems that I skipped a weekend. Then I missed another weekend while I was in the hospital.

This past weekend, the weather was perfect on Saturday, but I had just had the chest catheter implanted the day before, so I figured I'd better take it easy. Sunday was windy and rainy. Hopefully the weather will be decent enough next weekend to get something done.
