Halloween Treats [KT]

kittenbat.jpg

This Baby Animal is ready for Halloween.
Are you?

Greetings! Hope the Saturday Before Halloween is going well for you. I thought that today it might be a good idea to prepare something besides candy to pass out to Halloween visitors. Especially the teenagers. Maybe some adults and older children, too. Especially the ones who are afraid of Tiki torches.

I think the video below is a great one to pass out freely on Halloween, or more selectively on other days when the subject of the Alt-Right comes up. Like maybe when someone associates YOU with the Alt-Right.

This video is pretty much hysteria-free. Michael Knowles "took a deep dive into Alt-Right culture". He learned some simple, basic things that middle school students should know. And maybe some of their parents. Of course, if you are a regular reader of AoSHQ you already knew most of this stuff.

But it's nice to see the basics laid out so plainly for those who have been led to think of the Alt-Right as "the Right": The Alt-Right is an alternative to the Right. Sort of like the Left is an alternative to the Right. For example, both the Alt-Right and the Left are pretty much obsessed with race, while the American Right is not.

While we're on the subject of obsession with race, maybe some kids are confused because it is okay with many on the Left that Disney appropriated Polynesian culture in order to make a movie about Moana, but it is not okay for little white girls to dress up like this fictional princess. Perhaps some kids might start to think that those scolding leftists like big corporations better than children. Perhaps they would be right.

Children who are old enough to understand "colonization" might be interested to know that giant colonizers of the internet, namely Google and YouTube, are restricting access by young people to many videos like the one above. Because Google and YouTube are hostile to foreign cultures like American Conservatism. PragerU is suing Google and YouTube in California.

PragerU's lawsuit argues that "Google/YouTube use their restricted mode filtering not to protect younger or sensitive viewers from 'inappropriate' video content, but as a political gag mechanism to silence PragerU". The suit alleges Google/YouTube did this "because PragerU is a conservative nonprofit organization that is associated with and espouses the views of leading conservative speakers."

"This is speech discrimination plain and simple: censorship based entirely on the perceived identity and political viewpoint of the speaker not on the content of the speech," the lawsuit alleged.

The suit demonstrates this by presenting a chart presenting its restricted videos and other videos on similar topics that were not restricted.

Google and YouTube have not clarified exactly why they find the restricted videos unsuitable for the young. They basically just assert their privilege in a seemingly arbitrary fashion.

Watch that video while you can, kids.

Can you think of some other appropriate information to pass out to kids who might appreciate a little surprise on Halloween?

Hope you have a great weekend. And maybe some fun on Halloween.

True story, I used to decorate the front for Halloween, and I don't do cute. No smiling pumpkins, no cute ghosts.

We had tombstones, heads on pikes, large ghouls, and various window displays.

We got on average 2-4 trick or treaters, which consisted of maybe one or two little ones in princess outfits or something like that (they didn't want to approach). One or two groups of teenagers, possibly not even in costumes, who liked the displays.

Not anymore. My kids are older, and frankly it's not worth the effort.

44 Speaking of the Irish (which we were on the earlier thread), my husband and I were staying at a Savannah hotel years ago (before moving here) over St. Patrick's Day weekend.

The Parade committee was holding their annual breakfast in the hotel dining room (complete with green grits). My husband had gone down to fetch coffee, and came into our room grinning from ear to ear.

"You won't believe what just happened! Some old parade committee guy poured whiskey in the green grits and caught the tablecloth on fire!"

A couple of years ago, that very same old guy died and the Burning of the Tablecloth was in his obit.

Priceless.

46 I think the parents in my neighborhood are more into Halloween than the kids. There are several houses that hand out Jell-O shots to the adults. Then there are the people walking around with wagons with coolers that are basically rolling bars. There are drop in parties for adults too. I basically bribe my kids not to trick or treat and just hand out candy instead.

Why are people still watching the crapola Disney puts out anyway?

It's like the NFL or Disney owned sports network, ESPN. They have contempt for their fans. They hate them and they want new fans. Like the battered spouse, people should leave. Ignore Disney, their movies, their costumes, etc. Just stick to classic Disney, before it lost its moral compass.

60 For a time there, "alt-right" meant alternative to GOPe and RINO right.

Wasn't Breitbart "alt-right" a year back? Then Trump came out with closing borders and America First, and the left (as I see it) decided the whole "alt-right" movement had to be labeled racist, conflated with white supremacist.

So the guy in this Prager video ... not sure how he gets to decide what "alt-right" means, just because he says the name tells us it is alternative to "the right" (and he adds conservatism in with it).

I guess the MFM has thoroughly saturated the low info people with
"alt-right = KKK/Nazi", but there are many that think it means an alternative to the uniparty.

"Alt-right" actually ... if he wants to say it is right in the name ... means "an alternative right" ... NOT "an alternative TO the right". So he added a word to completely change the syntax, and he gives an opposite meaning.

From there he too conflates any that were an alternative right (Trumpists, tea party, border control, America First) ... into the KKK/Nazis. sheesh.

I spent a fortune on candy every year. People drove their kids to our street. The kicker was after the little kids left, teenagers sans costumes showed up demanding candy. You didn't dare not give them anything, because they'd trash your yard.

We had literally a good hundred kids for Halloween in our Chicagoland neighborhood.
=====

I always applied for the half day because Halloween was the BIG holiday. Neighbors with attached garages would make little spook trails and some of the neighbors got together and divided by age. One of the neighbors always fired up the barbecue and gave out hotdogs to the hardcore older kids. Youngest kidlet went until she left to school -- but she worked hard on costume so people gave her a lot. I like seeing the teens as long as they are costumed. Yeah, I used to get a case of beer to hand out to the parents doing escort duty.

yeah, but Spencer only gets attention because he is a jerk that pushes crap like the tiki march, or has a few juvenilles give Hitler salutes like that is hilarious. So his little crowd gets all the press.

Paul Joseph Watson says there are two alt-rights (Spencer may have started using it, not sure he really was the first to use the term though). Watson get about 50 times the you-tube traffic of Spencer, but the MFM loves Spencer, so he gets all their attention as they redefine "alt-right" as KKK/Nazi.

Watson had a sort of twitter battle with Spencer ... Vox Day and Molyneaux also have a long video on "what is alt-right" which I might get to. I don't think those guys are racist, nor do they want to remove other races ... they want to maintain our culture and heritage, as opposed to the mass immigration (invasion) that is destroying Europe, for instance.

that was about a year ago, maybe they have given up on using the term since the media (and the "right") have bashed it and used it for Trump even. It is just part of the smear campaign of the MFM to destroy what used to be a useful term. Spencer might as well be working for the left, if he isn't.

161 Not surprising. It's under the control of the Episcopal Church,
which has been radical leftist for many decades. They actively promote homosexuality, abortion, downplay the authority of scripture, etc. The only surprising thing is that it took this long.

========

LOL. They need to update their site. Their "about" page still has as one of its selling points that there is a pew that George Washington once worshipped:

http://www.historicchristchurch.org/about-us/

This page is a good primer to learn weasel wording that liberal churches often use to avoid spooking off people.

"In accordance with federal law and with the Episcopal Church we are honored to offer the sacrament of marriage to all people."

"We make room for folks wherever they are on their spiritual journey."

"We make room for folks wherever they are on their spiritual journey." (yeah, like ordained minister Anne Holmes-Redding, who claimed to be a Muslim and an Episcopalian)

163 Can't do that now, everyone comes in cars
------------------

My parents' street bans street parking on Halloween. It's an extremely popular street for trick-or-treaters, and having cars constantly parking or pulling out would be dangerous for the kids. So the residents get a permit to ban street parking for the night.

People still drive to the neighborhood. They just have to park elsewhere.

That's the thing, I don't care how sensible a group may be, as soon as you put yourself out there, there is going to be an alternative to you, twisting what you say and do, to the point of you having to fight the narrative that is created (and aided by the media) by them to describe you.

It's a fool's game.

Which is not me calling anyone who plays it a fool, I'm just saying it devolves inevitably to a turf war with nothing to gain except maybe vanquishing your enemy on the other side. Whichever side that happens to be, and nobody knows who's on what side anymore. There are no sides.

193 Alt-Right = alternative to GOPe/Establishment Republicans

That is how I understood it to mean when I started hearing the term several years ago. Then Hillary mentions the term and associates it with racists and we get the typical pearl clutching by the right's soft serve ice cream crowd.

I didn't even know who Richard Spencer was until the losers on the right started bashing him. Essentially doing all the work for the left in redefining the term.

Good job! Here, have some more soft serve:
"For example, both the Alt-Right and the Left are pretty much obsessed with race, while the American Right is not."

Ironically, this is the problem most Alt-Righters have with the GOPe. Always back pedaling to defend their reputation with the media/left and never intending to fight for principles like Free Speech. How can you win the cultural war if you let the other side choose what you can say?

Well at least you are not part of the icky Alt-Right and can sleep well at night all warm, wrapped in your American flag. I'm sure the left will be ok with that.

Agreed. In this age though, I think what it looks like to me is there are so many "sides," politically, that we're moving toward an unworkable political climate. Much like the french had prior to the Second World War, when they were forming governments with coalitions, then some minor disagreement would pop up, and it would trigger new elections, with a new coalition, and that one would break up. They were forming new governments more than once in any given year, so there was no continuity, no permanent majority, no real governing going on at all.

I kinda think that's where we are, although our "two party" system does mask it some.

I don't think [Watson, Day, Molyneux] are racist, nor do they want to remove other races ... they want to maintain our culture and heritage, as opposed to the mass immigration (invasion) that is destroying Europe, for instance.
...
by: illiniwek

========

If I might offer a suggestion: I think for racists on the left and on the right, they consider the predominance of the race they side with, and marginalization of all others, as a primary moral concern.

For the rest of us, though we attach no moral significance to race, we might be forced to confront racists, and hence will have to frame things in *racial* terms. A black man might have to say "Jim crow laws discriminate against me as a black man and favor whites". And a white man might say "Holder's DoJ ignores racial crimes by blacks against whites". But neither the black man nor the white man is a racial supremacist simply because they are using racial terms.

I think the mass immigration issue must be framed in such a way. Michael Moore let the mask drop: the purpose of mass migration is to make whites a minority in order to disenfranchise them in the course of identity politics. It is a racist policy.

And given that the left has instigated this policy, pointing this out, and naming the targeted race is no more objectionable than a black man observing that the Klan are an organization of whites who are targeting blacks. The reason that race is being brought up is because of the racists who created the issue in the first place, not because of those who respond to the issue, and do not regard race as some sort of cause, but would rather be left alone by the racists.

True, and a good thought. Conservatives are not obsessed with race, but when groups (say, radical Islam or BLM) that identify themselves with a religion or race target another group for violence, (say, non-believers or cops) it is hard not to bring race into the equation.

Hit a mule with a 2 x 4 long enough and you begin to make an impression.

In either case it is a response to "institutionalized right" have gone toward the progressive side, having bastardized the traditional right. Those that don't want to drift to the middle had an alternative ... an alternative right (not an alternative to traditional American right ... a RETURN to the true right, an alternative to the PC perverted right.

It just really bugs me he pretends to school us on the meaning being right in the phrase, but he actually changes the meaning by adding "an alternative TO the right" as if the old boyz like Bush/McCain own the word.

So "dissident right" probably works better. Still right, but dissenting from the Bush/McCain National Review leftward drift. "Traditional Right" might work as well ... founding fathers right, except those statues are being destroyed ... cuz racist. sigh

Hi, I sort of laughed this off upthread, but I only did this because of the organization involved. The Episcopal Church is a private organization, they are radical, so thinking anything can be done about them is like worrying about moderating the speech at a meeting of ThinkProgress, OFA, or ACORN meeting.

But, as for tearing down public monuments, trying to rewrite history, renaming public schools, etc. etc. I agree, this is unacceptable, and should be opposed wherever it crops up. I was just making a distinction in this one case. I wasn't trying to be flippant like BSG and his stupid "10 mile" rule.

All of the above.

As others are talking about this question bringing race into the conversation (as some always do), the problem many of us are encountering is this notion that YOU (meaning the one with whom we find ourselves arguing/debating) have decided that I am the problem. You decided to focus all your attention outside yourself, and declare me to be wrong.

When I try to defend my position, that makes me rayciss/homophobe, etc. and all the rest.

We can't have a discussion. We can only ever fight.

I'm not interested in fighting with these people. I'm just not.

And as is true in our personal lives, if we find ourselves only ever fighting with someone, it's time to cut them out of our lives. Divorce. Period. We're done.

260 People may ignore facts for reasons similar to why they stay in cults. Cults have certain advantages - a supportive group of like minded people, stability, certainty. If people have too much invested in a way of thinking, they'll resist coming out of it.

I also think that liberals tend to have an emotional attachment to their story, so they don't want to give it up. To give an analogy, if a doting mother has evidence her son is a sociopath who commits crimes, she may lie to herself and think "no, he is a good boy". Similarly, if anything goes against the liberal narrative (ex. groping refugee, illegal raping a 2 year old), they will just tune it out.

That's a general truth that expands into pretty much any and all realm of human thinking.

There are technical terms for it, but basically if you are operating as if the world fits into your fixed perspective, you are bound to be miserable, because the world simply refuses to do so.

It probably doesn't matter which angle one is coming from, what is required is a healthy respect for truth, wherever you find it, from whichever direction it comes.

Most of us, one way or another, struggle with this. Some clearly more than others (i.e. the political left).

269 For the last 2-3 weeks, I had been noticing shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing, and a lack of energy. I had had asthma several years ago, but it eventually cleared up and the symptoms went away. Now it seemed like they had come back.

I saw my primary physician on the 18th. She examined me and referred me to get a chest x-ray. I went in to work as usual on Friday the 20th, then left to go get the x-ray.

They told me that there was a lot of fluid surrounding my right lung and I needed to go to the emergency room right now to get it drained.

So I went, and they installed a chest tube and drained part of the fluid. I felt immediate relief, but they said there was more fluid to be drained and they couldn't do it all at once. I was admitted to the hospital.

They drained more fluid the next day, and kept me hooked up to the chest tube as the remaining fluid slowly drained. Nobody could tell me when I would be released from the hospital.

I became worried about my cat Reggie, who I had left on Friday morning with just enough food and water to last until the evening when I got home. On Saturday afternoon, I called my vet's office and explained the situation. They sent an employee to my hospital room where I gave her a house key and instructed her to put out more food and water to last a few days, since I didn't know when I was getting out.

By Tuesday they had drained enough fluid to take another CAT scan, where it was determined that a tumor in my right lung was the source of the fluid. Since cancer cells were detected in the fluid, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.

They did more tests, including an MRI of my brain to see if the cancer had spread there. It hasn't... yet. They also did a biopsy to learn more about the DNA makeup of the tumor to determine future treatment, and finally replaced the chest tube with a PleurX catheter that can be drained at home by a nurse.

I was released from the hospital and got home around 7:00 Friday night. The site where the catheter was installed was very sore this morning but is better now. The visiting nurse will be out on Monday or Tuesday and I have an appointment with the oncologist on 11/10 to begin outpatient treatment.

I'm feeling much better right now than I did a week ago, so there's that. And Reggie survived, and seemed glad to see me last night.

Do you have people that will help you? If anyone offers anything, please take them up on it.

I'm glad you shared that with us, even though it must have been hard to type. Prayers for everything going up starting now.

Yes, I do. I spent about $3000 this year on my elderly cat Kira, who died in August at age 17. So I thought I could call in a favor.

286 "As I'm fond of pointing out, Leftist 'morality' is written for political expedience, and is primarily intended to control their enemies, not themselves.
Exemptions from Leftist morality for Leftists in good standing are a norm, not an exception.
Posted by: Mr. Peebles

yeah ... there is no "good book" the leftist "religion" relies on ... it is ever changing, and in my view, it is engineered by our enemies (foreign and domestic). PC is always "progressives on the march". It is a march toward centralized control over our liberty ... gotta fence the sheep in, keep us from wandering, make it easier to shear us. The elite use the wool, eat the mutton, no fences for them.

The term "religion" applies to the left only in a broader sense in that Christianity is not really 'religion'. Faith comes be hearing the Word of God ... and thanks to the printing press, it comes from reading on our own. Self reliance, teaching the children well -- which in the 60's the commies also figured out meant, control/enslave the minds of the younger idyllic generation and they control the future. They infiltrated the schools and media, moved on to running crime and local governments.

Christians are dynamic ... they read and mature toward deeper understanding. In that sense they are not a static religion defined by certain phrases or customs or peer pressure. To me "religion" is too much "institutional dogma" instead of liberty. Individuals are Christians.

Alt-right (dissident right) is breaking off from centralized control of the term "right". "They" gave us two parties (left or right) and those were the only choices ... (uniparty). Alt-right is traditional founders' right, as opposed to the commie march through our institutions and "gradualism".

I don't really have any friends or relatives, but I will accept any offers of help if I see them.

The doctor who broke the news said that it must be a shock to me. I replied, truthfully, that it was more disappointing than shocking. I had assumed that it was an infection of some kind.

I can think of much worse news than a cancer diagnosis at age 59, when I have enjoyed mostly excellent health until now.

- a six year old child with leukemia

- a 22 year old soldier at the peak of his mental and physical powers, who is blinded by an IED

- a 70 year old with a sound body who has Alzheimer's, and can look forward to another 20 years of life as his brain turns to mashed potatoes

- an office worker at the World Trade Center in perfect health, going into work on an ordinary day, who is suddenly forced to choose between asphyxiation and jumping out a window

Honestly, my situation is much better than any of those alternatives.

I *am* kind of surprising myself. I think I surprised the doctor, too.

My life has been very good up till now for the most part, and I can't complain in the scheme of things.

As the oncologist pointed out, there have been some significant advances in treatment just in the past year or so. The longer I can stay alive, the better the chances for still more advances and even revolutionary breakthroughs.

Rickl, maybe contact the American Cancer Society...I think they provide rides and support for those going through treatment. Your doctor may also have info on organizations that can help & suport you. You are obviously greatly cared for here, but some supportive networks IRL would be incredibly beneficial for you.

312 rickl, my sister-in-law is a cancer survivor - she had it in her 20s (she's in her early 40s now). Her doctor has her on some kind of cancer-avoidance diet - pretty much avoiding grains and sugar, carbs in general, heavy on meat and veggies and good fats.

I'll ask her for details.

I was released from the hospital and got home around 7:00 Friday
night. The site where the catheter was installed was very sore this
morning but is better now. The visiting nurse will be out on Monday or
Tuesday and I have an appointment with the oncologist on 11/10 to begin
outpatient treatment.

I'm feeling much better right now than I did a week ago, so there's
that. And Reggie survived, and seemed glad to see me last night.

Posted by: rickl at October 28, 2017 02:28 PM (sdi6R)

OMG Rick, I just came back to this thread to see if you'd ever responded. What a fucking week. Of course you are added to the top of my prayer list.Dear Lord, please watch over our rickl, give him strength and faith to face the ordeal before him, and healing if it's You will. Amen.

317 wow rickl ... glad you get to come home, lots of things to deal with with all that news. Good thing they have better treatments now.

My sister went through some chemo ... hubby had to learn to deal with a catheter hook up (or a port actually) ... hope yours is more simple, but in any case, deal with it with hope for brighter days. Glad you found the problem ... keep us informed. Nurses are good ... hope they have you all lined up for proper care.
