Quotes of The Day

Quote I

It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag. Donald Trump

Quote II

Our soldiers have nobly fought to protect freedom since our country's birth, and have fought to protect those that could not protect themselves, even in foreign lands when called upon. John Linder

Quote III

We Marines believe that God gave America the greatest gift He could bestow to man while he lived on this earth -freedom. We also believe He gave us another gift nearly as precious - our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and Marines - to safeguard that gift and guarantee no force on this earth can ever steal it away. John F. Kelly

As the days roll by and I think about my mortality, I guess I have come up with a bucket list. This is not one of them. Do you have anything like this on yours?

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol says a man pulled over in Des Moines after a car pursuit told state troopers that he wanted to be chased because it was on his bucket list.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports that the man refused to halt a little before 7:30 a.m. Thursday when a trooper tried to stop him over a violation on Interstate 80. The 10- to 15-minute chase ended soon after he left the interstate. He was taken into custody.

That’s when the 46-year-old Des Moines resident shared his bucket list story with troopers. Court records don’t yet show that he’s been charged.

Kids. Trans bullshit. We know it's wrong. Well known pediatrician destroys the bullshit of the left.

In her recent comments at a Heritage Foundation forum, Cretella destroys the current leftwing fascination with allowing, or forcing, children to move through transgender reassignment. She explains that the process is child abuse and is akin to forcibly sterilizing a generation of kids.

“Chemical castration is what you’re doing when you put any biologically normal child on puberty blockers. It’s treating puberty like a disease, arresting a normal process which is critical to normal development and bad for kids.

Sterilization: not good for kids. Prepping them for what will likely result in a case in girls a double mastectomy at 16 — not how you treat depression or anxiety and I have plenty of experience treating teenagers with depression, anxiety, even suicidal depression. Indoctrinating pre-school kids with the lie that you can be trapped in the wrong body, again, that’s disrupting their normal reality testing and cognitive development. Those things are abusive.

The RNC is ripping the Democrats with hilarious schedule. Too bad they won't rip the know-nothing, do-nothing Republicans they supported in past elections.

The "media advisory" began by announcing "major changes" had been made to the schedule for the DNC meeting, taking place in Las Vegas later this week. The mock schedule announced that to RSVP, one should email party chairman "Professor Tom Perez" at Thomas.Perez@brown.edu, taking a swipe at Perez's fellowship at the notoriously left-wing Brown University.

The first item on the agenda are opening remarks from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who is in fact scheduled to speak at the "Women's Convention" later in the month. The next day includes presentations entitled, "Where is Michigan?: A geographical presentation of what exists between New York and Los Angeles," "No Money, Mo Problems: Investments the DNC would like to make – but can’t" and "The Menendez Mess: How to keep a convicted felon in the United States Senate."

Talk about a lack of oversight. Long term theft discovered at "correctional facility".

'If it wasn't so serious, you'd think it was a SNL skit': Man is arrested for stealing $1.2MILLION of FAJITAS in scam which lasted nine years

Gilberto Escamilla allegedly pulled off the scheme over nine years working at the Juvenile Justice Department in Cameron County, Texas

Escamilla admitted to the scheme after a meat vendor with the department called to verify an order

An employee believed it was a mistake because the facility doesn't serve fajitas
Investigators concluded that Escamilla had stolen $1,251,578 worth of fajitas over nine years that he would then sell on to customers

He has been charged with first-degree theft and is looking at serious jail time

Tonight's ONT Musical Interlude

October 19, 1997, Original Alice Cooper band guitarist Glen Buxton died from pneumonia, aged 49. Born in Akron, Ohio, he attended High School in Phoenix, Arizona, where he met Dennis Dunaway and Vincent Furnier, later to call himself the titular Alice Cooper. Buxton co-wrote several classic Alice Cooper hits, including 'School's Out', 'I'm Eighteen' and 'Elected.' via thisdayinmusic.com

Here are 15,000 reasons why one shouldn't jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I survived a 15,000 foot jump.

When you have a day in which everything seems to go wrong, remember that one day Cliff Judkins had in 1963. As a member of the Marine All Weather Fighter Squadron 323, Lt. Judkins was piloting his F-8 Crusader jet across the Pacific en route from California to Hawaii on the first leg of his assignment to Atsugi, Japan. He refueled mid-flight, and then everything fell apart. There was an explosion. Fuel spilled all over the plane, which caught fire. Ordered to eject, he found the ejection seat release did not work. The alternate release procedure did not work, either. We knew he had to exit the plane on his own. Then things got worse.

Researching for The ONT one never knows what one will come across. For example I thought that this guy had fallen off the face of the earth. Obviously I was wrong. Jim Bakker is still on TV and making prophetic statements. Sorry it's a Huffpo link.

“If you don’t want to hear it, just shut me off,” he said in a clip from Friday’s show posted online by Right Wing Watch. “Especially you folks that monitor me every day to try to destroy me. Just go away. You don’t have to be there. You don’t have to hear it.”

Then he fired off his warning:

“One day, you’re going to shake your fist in God’s face. And you’re going to say, ‘God, why didn’t you warn me?’ He’s gonna say, ‘You sat there and you made fun of Jim Bakker all those years. I warned you, but you didn’t listen.’”

72 An update on Sally Jo for them that mostly come at night, mostly: My Mother was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon and transported to a rehab facility for a 10-14 day stay. She has gotten up and walked a bit, though she maintains that the hip is still very painful.

Her survival has been truly miraculous. All the doctors had maintained that she was unlikely to survive the anesthesia but she came through without a hitch. Even she expected that when she closed her eyes that she would next open them in heaven.

I credit all my friends praying for her, and that God still has some work for her here.

I thank you all.

98 So, got into the usual Twitter back and forth about "transgender".

https://twitter.com/ThePoliticalHat/status/921098432374226944

Ultimately, it comes down to different definitions of "man" and "woman".

For sane and rational people "man" = biological male.

However, for the Left, "man" = someone who identifies with the masculine. In effect, the two are homonyms.

The problem arises due to the fact that their definition is what has increasingly taken over academia and biological sciences, and has been ingrained into the law and is what is being taught in schools.

This why when you say that a "trans-woman" isn't a real woman, they think you are an idiot because you don't understand the very basic definition that they hold.

This is dangerous, because by applying the pronouns and terms that used to refer to one's biological sex, they are able to make it seem that "trans-genderism" was always the norm throughout history, furthered by academics touting "two spirit" and "non-binary" genders from around the world (either outright made up, or highly distorted and selective facts).

They are successfully make it seem like "hetero-normativity" is contra biological reality, while their delusions are and always have been normal.

That scientific journals and magazines are spreading the "sex is a spectrum and not a binary" schtick as well, the biological reality that we are a sexually dimorphic species is being declared "science denial".

Why do I bring this up?

Because we have to understand the enemy and how they are succeeding if we are to combat them.

129 Good evening Horde.

I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest today so I just a few minutes ago was able to view Gen. Kelly's press conference from earlier today.

I haven't read up thread yet so perhaps it has already been posted, but if you haven't viewed it, you must:

https://youtu.be/Ps5ttDzWBaY

The General's demeanor, his tone and his choice of words struck me into my core. I had been told by previously by others that know from their own experience that I would be greatly changed by my son serving. And even though I served myself, they said my son being deployed would be unlike anything else I have ever experienced.

It is.

I can no longer bear to see a strange, dark sedan driving by my house, wondering if it will pull into my driveway. If someone comes to the door, for any reason, and knocks on the door with three sharp raps, I will involuntarily suck in my breath and cause me to screw up my courage to go answer. I pray to God that I do not see dress whites through the little side windows.

My son loves what he does and I pray for him every night. And how some POS congresscritter could twist a bereavement call from the CIC into her own demented use is honestly, beyond my comprehension.

I pray I never run into her. For her sake. She is less than a human. I'll ask God for forgiveness if I see Him.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Just got here so don't know if this was addressed, but it is probably true. Cooper has said in interviews that he substituted golf for alcohol and when he goes to a city for a concert he finds a good golf course in that city and gets in some golf. Radio stations are involved in the concerts and so their employees probably help him with golf courses.

I saw him perform a few years ago, and he still did a good concert. I don't think he needs as much make up to get that haggard look for his face.

I could see it on a short term basis --- like Paris Hilton's 15 minutes.

I wonder if maybe they have a big following in the black community.
Kim began her quest for fame by trying to latch on to young white actors but then switched to black athletes.
Then one by one they all have gone after black guys, be they athletes or rappers.

What's up with that? Is it just taste? It would be odd for all of them to have the same "type."

410 I first saw Alice Cooper in August 1969 at a place called "The Cobra" in Hastings MI. They were touring for their first album, "Pretties for You." My (now) oldest best friend dragged a bunch of us to see them. The scene there is described on this page by the opening act band about halfway down.

http://tinyurl.com/y8bvmznu

There wasn't really a stage just a platform for the drums and no chairs so everyone sat on the floor. My friend and I sat right at the base of Alice's mike stand looking up at him singing. It was an interesting evening. The only other time I saw him was the "Welcome to my Nightmare" tour and for that I was way back in a huge stadium and needed binoculars to see the band.

My father got pneumonia after prostate surgery several years ago. They had sent home (too early, according to the recovery room nurse, who though he should have stayed overnight).

The docs said we got back to the hospital just in time. It was just getting started, and they were able to stop it.

Your immune system can take a hit, from other infections, stress from surgery and all that, and let the infection get started in the lungs.

That's why it's such a sleeper, people figure they can just power through it. Thing is, it isn't a disease itself, more of a symptom like vomiting or fever. It can be caused by a bacterium or a virus or a fungus or something else entirely and if you aren't qualified to determine if yours is from black mold or bacteria (I'm certainly not), ffs see someone who is.

A vaccine that could protect against the most common causes would be a big help, so that's promising. It won't do anything once you've got it though, and whatever is causing a particular case might need an entirely different treatment regimen anyway.

I think a lot of it is a loss of cultural reverence for Valor and Bravery. I keep hearing that the Hollywood ladies coming out with accusations against Weinstein are 'brave'. Are they? He is a wounded tiger who they are now piling on. The brave ones are those who tried to speak up when annihilation and career destruction were certain. They truly risked something and paid a price for doing the right thing.

We don't speak plainly and use words in the way they are defined anymore. We render bravery meaningless, and valor laughable while at the same time not recognizing it when it is right in front of us.

The men and women who risked danger to save others' lives in Las Vegas were brave.

Hillary is not 'brave' for being a multimillionaire who ran for president.

Also, the very young.

What was so bad and so deadly about that WWI era flu epidemic was the mortality was much higher for the younger, in between cohort.

That is thought to be from an immune system overreaction. The virii that cause flu can mutate in just the right combo to do that, and that's what they worry about. If that happens again with some strain, another really bad pandemic will result.

Also, it was called the "Spanish Flu" because Spain was neutral and published factual reports of the pandemic. Belligerent nations clamped down hard on reporting the magnitude of it because they didn't want their enemies to know how hard it was hitting them. So, to an ordinary observer, it looks like a big scary flu epidemic has popped up in Spain and nowhere else.

479 Yea, that flu was an outlier. They have never really figured out...just a guess.

And the yearly flu shot is always a guess at what strains they think will be prominent that year. Sometimes they are really wrong.

There has been some new studies on the flu that they think may explain the WW I flu, and also the varying intensity of flus on people. They believe it has to do with the year you were born and the first flu you get. That appears to set your immune system in a certain way. The research was really interesting, and they are pursuing it further. But it would allow them to create more accurate flu shots, and different for different groups, based on the flus prevalent your 1st years of life.

Yep. The Brewers were in a rebuilding year this season. If they had just made it to the WC card people would have been delighted (it's the postseason, although in a way it's not the postseason.)

The Bucs had a long drought too after "We Are Family." Shit that's true of most mlb teams.

But the Yankees can always open that huge pocketbook and buy their way to the postseason.

487 Also, it was called the "Spanish Flu" because Spain was neutral and published factual reports of the pandemic. Belligerent nations clamped down hard on reporting the magnitude of it because they didn't want their enemies to know how hard it was hitting them. So, to an ordinary observer, it looks like a big scary flu epidemic has popped up in Spain and nowhere else.

Yeah, cytokine storm or cytokine cascade. As hogmartin said, it's a runaway feedback loop with the immune system. Said loop is normally controlled, but in some cases it runs away, and death is the usual result.

There are several things known to cause it, including allergic reactions to some drugs. They were doing some experimental testing of some new drug one time, and it caused a cytokine storm in the human test subjects, I just read.

492 In other 1918 flu trivia, I think they recently (last ten years or so) found a mass grave in Alaska or the Yukon Territory or something where a whole community got smacked by the flu and the interesting part is that they found preserved virus samples in the frozen bodies, un-mutated or altered in 100 years. I think it was the first opportunity to actually study the real thing.

One thing we have going for us is that we are all connected quite a bit. The severe virulence of things like measles and small pox in native Americans was that they had NO historical exposure to these diseases.

New stuff can always pop up though. Plus there are old diseases which have shown our herd immunity may not be in great shape any more- like measles and whooping cough.

The interconnectedness also means that diseases with a really high mortality/high transmission rate would not be as likely to 'burn themselves out' like they might have in medieval days when a trader comes to a town and finds everyone dead.

Ya know, last year they guessed the wrong strains of the flu, so ishot was pretty worthless. You may want to wait until those reports come in about its accuracy before getting it. I can always link ya, b/c I watch.

The pneumonia one I didn't think I'd get for many more years, but tonight's stories were pretty sobering. And of course Staf infections are dangerous. Guess I'll look into.

You may want to wait on the booster shot for pneumonia too. If they say 5 years, they are being conservative. You don't want to piggyback too many. And in 2 years the booster may be even better.

I believe in vaccines...but am also cautious & conservative about them.

522 Not to go all chemtrails here, but there are some incredibly virulent strains of viruses that governments all over the planet have been breeding. Even an accidental release could be catastrophic. There was an article about a Chinese researcher that combined H5N2 bird flu with the highly infectious H1N1 human flu virus. All for research of course. The virus is H7N9 and it has already been seen outside the laboratory. Is it there because bird flu migrated to humans, or was this a result of poor protocols by the Chinese?

557 I lived in San Diego for 6 years. Loved the Blue Angels flying over our house, low enough to wave and get a salute back for my son!

Did not love when neighbors brought their kids to our stupid yardsale to pocket our stuff. We had a compressor stolen from our open garage in the middle of the day. Another kid took flowers off of our gardenias for dinner.(?) Gang tags on the playground. My last straw was when a teenager 2 doors away got pissed at his "friend" and shot him in the head on his driveway. Yeah, let's talk culture.

589 Is screen burn-in still a thing?

I have an old iPad 2 that I want to stick in the kitchen for a
music/calendar/recipe/shopping list station, and there are a few
'nightstand' apps that show a pretty background picture that cycles once
in a while with a time/date/weather status thing so it looks pretty and
is useful instead of just a black screen when I'm not using it. Thing
is, the frames on the clock display areas don't change even if the times
do. Is it worth worrying about, or should I just leave it off?

I'm sure there's a EE lurking about that could probably provide better info, but here goes.

I wouldn't worry about screen burn in on an iPad. LCDs are normally low voltage devices. Where you see screen burn in is typically high voltage devices like CRTs and plasma displays. I think it's because high voltage tends to break materials down over time. So, unless you have some mutant beast iPad that requires 17kV to work, you're probably OK.

Posted by: Blanco Basura at October 20, 2017 01:58 AM (IcT7t)

590 It's still Thursday here.

Looks like I will be able to get new building permit for my house here in AZ, so things are looking up on that front. Was trying to get an old car started today, and discovered that #1 piston has the busted-off head of one of the valves stuck in it. So much for that idea. I will have to build a new engine for it, if it is to ever run again.

And continuing my sporadic efforts at yard clean-up.

597 Yeah, I'll just not worry about it. Everyone's seen an old industrial control CRT with phosphors that are so scorched that you can see the menu even when the thing is unplugged, and I seem to recall old laptop displays getting ghosting, but that wasn't permanent and was about twelve generations of display technology back. Anybody remember passive matrix and supertwist nematics? I haven't heard of modern stuff getting burn-in at all.

On the other hand, most displays from the past 15 years or so will go into powersave after a while, and they aren't usually left on overnight. And the expected duty cycle on a tablet screen isn't 100% either. So I don't know.

600

I looked up the screen burn-in thing. Old CRTs, especially monochrome were the worst about it. Plasma screens could get it as well. LCDs aren't much to worry about, although it can happen, but it's a different mechanism. I think the LCD burn-in is just a transient thing, but in some case, it might be more permanent. But nothing to really worry about.

610 >> Philosophical question:

I had to check one more time, and now you done gone and started a deep discussion. I've got to go, really. But quickly:

One biological definition of male/female is the actual reproductive things, balls vs ovaries, sperm vs egg. Not the "external genitalia".

In this case, we have something that meets the biological definition of functioning male, that goes and gets himself all fucked up surgically and loses the balls. And has a surgical female-like external package created.

Put that in one category. A screwed up category.

Now, the other is the intersex conditions, where nature itself screws up. Something goes wrong in the sex differentiation phase of fetal development, and there are a bunch of those.

They are usually sterile, but there have been a few very rare exceptions.

For something weird consider "complete gonadal dysgenesis". That's a 46 XY individual where the SRY gene thing doesn't turn on right.

Now, that is almost female, save no ovaries. You get something that is neither testicle nor ovary, and is non-functional. Everything else if functional female.

THey can actually carry and deliver a baby, if implanted with an embryo, and that has been done.

The CIA on Thursday was forced to walk back an assertion by Director Mike Pompeo, who incorrectly said that U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russian efforts to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election were unsuccessful.

In a later clarification, the head of the CIA's office of public affairs, Dean Boyd, said: "The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not changed, and the Director did not intend to suggest that it had."

The 'elites' have to put a stop to this uncouth business school graduate before he makes them look like the stupid pretentious and economically challenged twits they actually are. *That's* the real reason GWB is so upset.

There's gonna be a couple of history books re-written about former Presidents before Trump finishes his first term in office.

While I eventually acquired a MBA level of education in the workplace and second tier college (but no paper to prove it), I would have given my left nut to go to Wharton for business.

Jayne Mansfield was definitely stuffing her under bra. She did something like 30 Playboy shoots, often bare-chested so it's pretty easy to calculate she was cheating more than a little bit in that picture.

That's probably what Sophia (who in my judgment had more boob then Jayne) was probably shocked at seeing.

..ENHANCED THREAT FOR THE SPREAD OF WILDFIRES LATER TODAY...

A cold front will move south through the region this morning, and
behind the front, northwest winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph
with occasional gusts up to 20 mph late this morning and into this
afternoon. A drier airmass will also build south, and relative
humidity values will range from 25 to 30 percent
.

Additionally, fine fuels are dry across the region. These
conditions could potentially support an enhanced risk for the
spread of wildfires by the late morning or afternoon.

We've been on a path to the middle class disappearing. A journey to a banana republic full of people who only expect their politicians to steal and lie. Maybe Europe is ahead of us on this path. I reject it with all my heart, liberals, because I'm more worldly than you, not less.

Not Europe. Mexico. We're going to be Mexico.

Europe is an anomaly. A mirage. Created by our own wealth combined with our flat-out national refusal to leave other peoples to suffer the consequences of their own bad political decisions.

And no ... their doesn't HAVE to be a civic-reawakening. I don't think there will be. Because citizenship is hard. Freedom is risky.

Most Americans ain't exceptional, and most Americans just want to be serfs ruled by a benevolent monarch. The party, in my humble opinion, is just about over.

Blue states will either be corralled by conservatives, or they will become Venesuala. I don't pass judgement* on which they deserve, but it's better we do the thing we don't want to. If we ignore politics we will be ruled by our inferiors.
