From the end of August to the end of September, the favorable ratings for the NFL have dropped from 57 percent to 44 percent, and it has the highest unfavorable rating -- 40 percent -- of any big sport, according to the Winston Group survey provided exclusively to Secrets.Hit the link to see the favorability of the brand of other pro and college sports. Worse for football, which was already seeing lower TV ratings and empty stadium seats, the month of protests and complaints about them from President Trump drove core fans, men 34-54, away, the most significant indicator that NFL brass aren't in touch with their base. The Winston Poll from the Washington-based Winston Group found that the attitude of those fans went from an August rating of 73 percent favorable and 19 percent unfavorable to 42 percent favorable and 47 percent unfavorable, a remarkable turn against the sport. According to the poll analysis, "more critically for the NFL, the fall off in favorables occurred among important audiences. Among males, NFL favorables fell 23 percent, going from 68 percent to 45 percent. In looking at a more specific audience, males 34-54, NFL favorables fell 31 percent, going from 73 percent to 42 percent. Among this group the NFL has a surprising negative image, as it went from +54 percent in August to -5 percent in September.

It only propagates its message by pressuring companies to make Social Justice Warrior hires until the company is dominated by Social Justice Warriors, perverting the company into a leftwing (unacknowledged) political PAC and also acting as enforcers for leftist orthodoxy -- remember in 2015 when the NFL warned Texas that it might never host another Super Bowl if it passed a law against municipalities mandating transgendered bathrooms?
The NFL sharpened its warning to Texas on Friday about a bathroom bill targeting transgender people, suggesting for the first time that the football-obsessed state could miss out on hosting another Super Bowl if the proposal is enacted. "If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there, that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events," league spokesman Brian McCarthy said in response to an email question about the Texas bill, which was filed last month.An awful lot of political power in this country is wielded by corporations. You are far more likely to be punished by your employer for Non-Officially-Approved Speech than by the government. We cannot sit idly by as the Social Justice Warriors identify, kill, gut, and wear the skin suit of one powerful institution after another without any kind of pushback whatsoever. The NFL sought to economically coerce an entire state away from pursuing their own democratic determination of best public policy -- and yet there's an entire chorus of corporate #FakeNews conservatives that shrieks and cries if one suggests using a little bit of economic coercion against the NFL in return. So... the NFL can use the tools of social and economic coercion against citizens, but citizens cannot use the same tools to strike back at it? Why? Are we moving past Romney's "corporations are people too" to an even stronger restatement: "Corporations are the only people whose political and speech rights should be absolutely respected and free from any external economic or social coercion"? Is that where Conservatism, Inc. is now? A party where gigantically powerful, taxpayer-subsidized corporations have untrammeled free speech rights and the rest of us do not? No. Unacceptable. Unamerican. If the NFL can bully and pressure individual citizens, then surely individual citizens are justified in applying their own bullying tactics towards the NFL. Especially given that the left is (quite successfully) bullying the NFL in their direction -- and without any pushback from the right whatsoever, we're essentially gifting the left with the NFL. Just as we gifted them academia, the bar, the courts, and the media. How's that workin' out for us? Bullying a bully isn't bullying -- it's just kicking a would-be bully in the ass for a while until he stops bullying. The left has decided that it can't win the political war on the current battlefield, so it has made it its mission to shape the battlefield by taking over the main transmission stations of permissible public opinion and using the power of those corporations to propagandize and bully citizens into compliance. That is the war. Some on the Not-So-SmartSet right may proudly pat themselves on the back for avoiding that war, denying the existence of that war, and even white knighting corporations actively fighting that war on behalf of the left -- but that is the actual war. And, as to any conservative too polite to fight the actual war -- then what is the point of you, and whose side are you actually on?

okay I have a question. I've now upgraded a second time to a hammer drill. To get these fucking screws to finally go in.
Now, when I drill into the stud, well, it won't go into the stud. The screws are completely blocked after just getting through the drywall.
Is there a chance there's some kind of metal cladding or bracket on these studs at the places I'm drilling?
I just don't get it. I'm beyond frustrated.
I'm trying to put up additional supports on the studs because you monsters really freaked me out telling me "those shelves are coming down."
But I cannot put a damn screw through this stud.
BTW, this a a wall that adjoins to the next apartment. I don't see any power outlets on the stud so I don't think I'm hitting something like metal tubing around electrical wires.

Maybe you have metal studs? Ask your building super or just put a thin nail in and give it some raps to listen to the sound.
Otherwise, you could test by going up and down the stud and seeing if you hit wood anywhere.

When I first bought the hammer drill, months ago, I thought I was doing something wrong because the vice-teeth would not open up far enough to let me put in a bit. So I bought bits specifically for this drill. They also did not fit.
I then found out it was just a design defect. But now it was too late to return it to Amazon.
Amazon did let me return it, though, and the next drill worked. (Though amazon told me "We're making a ONE-TIME exception to our return policy..." so that card is now played.)
And even the hammer drill won't go into this damn stud.
The screws go in just past the drywall and then get hot when I try to force them further.

I suspect you either have metal studs behind the sheet rock or some sort of masonry. If metal studs, drill a pilot whole, because they are like sheet metal, and use the appropriate screw. If it is masonry, you would need a masonry bit appropriately sized for the wall anchor.
Another case might be you are drilling into structural steel beams, in which case, I am not so sure you'd want to continue. In that case, or the case where you don't want to drill into the metal stud, relocate to an area where you could just use sheet rock wall anchors (which would be nothing but drilling through sheet rock).

There are some cheap-ass ways of affixing outlet boxes to studs. You hit one of them you're not going through it. Not easily.
Take a finishing nail and try a couple inches higher or lower.

A horizontal run of romex or water pipe will usually have a metal piece on the stud to keep screws from going into it.

okay I have a question. I've now upgraded a second time to a hammer drill. To get these fucking screws to finally go in.
Now, when I drill into the stud, well, it won't go into the stud. The screws are completely blocked after just getting through the drywall.
Is there a chance there's some kind of metal cladding or bracket on these studs at the places I'm drilling?
I just don't get it. I'm beyond frustrated.
I'm trying to put up additional supports on the studs because you monsters really freaked me out telling me "those shelves are coming down."
But I cannot put a damn screw through this stud.
Putting screws into a 2x4 can be awfully frustrating at times, mostly when trying to put one through a nail.... Have you tried one a couple inches above or below the first spot?

What the hell kind of building do you live in? Stone? Are you screwing a wood screw into a steel I-beam? Try drilling a pilot hole with smaller diameter drill bit before you drive the screw.

Why would they make studs out of aluminum? It weakens in high temps, it's expensive and weight isn't an issue. If they're metal studs, they're likely steel sheet metal.

Decent quality twist bit should work, kinda. Trick is to have relatively slow rotation speed and push hard - "fast feed, slow speed." Otherwise the rotating bit can actually work-harden the steel.

Yep. You might try getting a small drill bit that is made for metal. Metal studs are pretty thin but they will defeat a screw.
You can also use self taping screws which should get 'er done if you do have metal studs. They will also work on wood.

If its a stud, why are you using a hammer drill? And are you using a masonry bit in the hammer drill? If its a wood wood stud, then all you need is a regular drill and a brad point bit to make a pilot hole that is 1/2 the diameter of the screw you're trying to set.

Regular drill bit should work, but as others say, probably not the best idea to drill unless you confirm it is a metal stud. And FWIW, drilling through a metal stud should be slightly more difficult than drilling through a coffee can. If it is a wood stud, expect to see wood shavings on the drill bit. If it is metal expect metal shavings.

Yes, what votermom said. Remember, docs learn about the medications from the Pharma rep selling them. And there are almost always alternatives.
Take some time do the research, and go back to your doc with questions, before you decide to take. I think there have been some lawsuits brought, but hard to keep track.

If it isn't brick, concrete or stone your hitting, which would also be there in between the "studs" then what you're hitting is either a metal pipe or a protective metal shield that is there to keep screws from making a hole in whatever it behind it. I'd not drill through it but would try to screw in a few inches above or below where it didn't work.

I'd guess because there's one inch of metal in the area. A nail would be about a 1/8th inch area.
I'm still thinking you've got some support metal in that zone. No big worry about putting a screw into it. But cheap ass drill bits won't go through it. Not without putting out enough smoke to evacuate the building.

Just look at the tip of the drill for any metal shavings after your bit bottoms at the depth you seek. That depth should be the same as the screw length. You can place a piece of masking tape on the bit at the correct depth so you know when to stop drilling in.

This is a support bracket under the shelf. The stud rejects the screw at two positions, one seven or eight inches below the other one.
So I don't think it's a nail, unless I'm just colossally unlucky.
I don't know the dimensions of a metal support area.
I could just put the drywall anchors into the wall (and plaster up these old screw-holes) but I really wanted to drill into the stud for additional strength.

1) Drill a half inch wide hole until you hit resistance.
2) Take off your pants and call the cutest neighbor you know.
3) Lock the door after you let her in and start masturbating near the pilot hole. Now, make sure you have a clear trajectory to the pilot hole (all while keeping on eye on the cute neighbor - tell her to just shut up if she's interrupting things).
4) Ejaculate into the pilot hole. If it's a wood stud the splooge will stick. If it's a metal stud it will bounce back out and hit you in the face. If you put the neighbor girl behind you and duck right after you cum in the pilot hole you should be alright either way.

1, i'm not moving shit. Phase 1 is done.
2, I used drywall anchors for one side of it. But I want to put heavy books on the shelves so I want this underneath bracket support for additional support, and I wanted to put that into a stud, to make sure it holds fast.
I could just move these brackets to the non-stud part and use the drywall anchors. But I kinda would just like to make this stud do what studs are supposed to freakin' do.

But I think the only way out of this PR nightmare is to do a full on apology. Owners and some high profile players would need to publicly say "we were wrong, please forgive us".

I hung some shelves in my tackle room that are made out of metal piping with thick, cherry shelves. The shelving alone must weigh in excess of 50 lbs. And that doesn't include all the crap I put on them.
And they are hung with anchors. They aren't going anywhere.

I'm thinking smaller drills are your friend. Get a 1/16" hole into the area. Then 1/8". Then probably a 3/16''.
Most water lines, A/C, gas, electric, are coded to be set far away from experienced shelf installers.

Now, when I drill into the stud, well, it won't go into the stud. The screws are completely blocked after just getting through the drywall.
Is there a chance there's some kind of metal cladding or bracket on these studs at the places I'm drilling?
I just don't get it. I'm beyond frustrated.
I'm trying to put up additional supports on the studs because you monsters really freaked me out telling me "those shelves are coming down."
But I cannot put a damn screw through this stud.
BTW, this a a wall that adjoins to the next apartment. I don't see any power outlets on the stud so I don't think I'm hitting something like metal tubing around electrical wires.

Those are galvanized steel studs. Not wood.
You need self-tapping sheet metal screws. Tell the hardware store you're installing into galvanized steel studs behind the sheetrock.
They'll not only sell you the right stuff, but also can tell you the approximate RPM to run the drill, and etc.
If you get a chance, pull up some You Tube video on installing those studs in new construction. You'll get a better idea of what you're up against.

We aren't hearing anything about what's going on within the teams, and in the locker rooms. I think the owners and coaches are trying to keep these teams ready to play but I think there has to be a lot of tension between the kneelers and the proper behavers. Especially the white behavers. My folks had an old farm. When I say old, I'm talking built in the early 1700s. Even had an attached two seater outhouse. Why two seats in an outhouse I never did find out.
My dad and I did most of the updating which means i did most of the grunt work. When I tore out the old horse hair plaster all kinds of shit came tumbling out of those walls. Corn cobs, straw, you name it. 18th century insulation. It did not work.
There wasn't a nail in the entire original construction. Everything was mortise and tendon joints and wooden pegs and the entire house was built around an enormous center chimney that fed every room.
Cool place. I will never remodel another house.

The exciting thing about Uniform Building Codes is that they're not so much uniform. There's probably half a dozen ways to attach an electrical box to a stud. One of them entails putting a strip of metal about one inch wide across the stud.
Which is kinda difficult to drill a hole through. With Dollar Store drill bits. Especially if you're over top of the nail.

One of the things that is drilled into anyone who plays team sports is the importance of putting the team in front of everything. You support your teammates without question as long as they aren't doing to hurt the team.
Players are often shipped off a team if they are considered to be bad teammates or putting themselves ahead of the team. See Kaepernick, Colin.
Villaneuva was in a tough sport. He is clearly a patriot and a certified tough guy but he didn't want to show up his teammates. I can't get too upset with him for his apology since that is what he apologized for and not for saluting the flag.

okay I have a question. I've now upgraded a second time to a hammer drill. To get these fucking screws to finally go in.
Now, when I drill into the stud, well, it won't go into the stud. The screws are completely blocked after just getting through the drywall.
Is there a chance there's some kind of metal cladding or bracket on these studs at the places I'm drilling?
I just don't get it. I'm beyond frustrated.
I'm trying to put up additional supports on the studs because you monsters really freaked me out telling me "those shelves are coming down."
But I cannot put a damn screw through this stud.
BTW, this a a wall that adjoins to the next apartment. I don't see any power outlets on the stud so I don't think I'm hitting something like metal tubing around electrical wires.

Then he decided it was time to open up on the crowd, for ten minutes. Security guy called that he was shot, stopped someone else from going down the hall, but hard to tell why the cops then took so long even getting there. Maybe they showed up in ten minutes and shooter saw them coming down the hall?
Sheriff does the updates, but whatever FBI knows they ain't telling. So may well be sheriff knows little, but FBI (according to some leaks) may have found a lot from their outside the room sources.

Late to the party here, but Jim at #463 i probably on the right track. It is not clear to me what you are doing. A hammer drill is for making holes, but you then say the screws are getting hot. Is this an impact driver? Are you drilling holes then trying to drive screws, or just trying to drive the screw? Also what type of screws are you using? How did you ascertain that there was a stud where you were putting the screw in?
Can you describe the building you are in? If you don't know the construction type maybe a rough idea of age and number of floors. Almost sounds like you have a masonry party wall, which is why I asked how did you ascertain there was a stud there. If the studs are steel and structural then they could be a bear to drill through. If partition grade then not quite so difficult, but you'll still need a self drilling screw. Only time I ever saw (or specified) a piece of sheet metal between the studs and sheetrock was in a jail, and it protected the guard's control room. I'm assuming that is not your situation. On wood studs you can sometimes find metal covers on the edge to protect electrical and mechanical lines drilled through the studs. These though are limited, only a couple of inches tall and only where the hole is.

IIRC, the 911 transcript from LVPD shows they were getting a shit-ton of calls about shooters everywhere.
Now, this may be a fake news thing, someone here posted it from 4chan, so who knows if it's true.
But if it is true, either there were people assisting the shooter by making fake calls, or else people were mishearing the direction of the shots, which is common, and either way, response time would be compromised.
Regardless, we're reminded once again that when seconds count, cops are only minutes away.....

That's part of what made places like Lowes and Radio Shack (*spit*) great in the 80s. Radio Shack used to hire amateur enthusiasts and kids that were going into the electronics field, and they could actually talk about their products and suggest solutions or parts.
I don't personally remember it, but my father told me Lowes used to have an actual plumber, electrician, etc. on staff as daytime department heads for the same reason.
