But then he repeats his mysterious assertion that Trump's involvement "normalized" the protests.
At least it's a mystery to me. I think Trump's actions only highlighted and intensified the controversy. And the controversy is hurting ratings (and probably other things). Which only adds to the organic financial/contractual other tensions building for the league. So how does any of that "help" the NFL? Just don't follow the argument.
Maybe if Brian comes along he'll correct my premises or something. But for now I see his premise, that Trump "normalized" the protests, baffling - as in, I see no basis for it.

I see the NFLs problem in other industries - there seems to be a constant pressure favor new markets, growth, etc. over maintenance and development of the existing customer base. Frequently, they will favor the new and actively reject the old. Which is insane.

I do the same with the "putting-up". The "taking-down" on the interior is the weekend after New Years' Day.
The exterior is shut down after the New Year and is taken down as the weather in NorthEast Ohio allows.

It's relatively inexpensive compared to the other opioids. That's why I think insurance carriers and WC carriers didnt put up a big fight when it started to be over prescribed. It just recently became a schedule II.

You see a lot more lights, these days, going up for all sorts of things because LEDs are so cheap and consume so little power. Lights around the house used to be a pretty expensive proposition (and required more than a little maintenance). Now, you can have tons of lights up, never bother with them and they only consume 20 watts.

It was the only thing that gave me relief from nerve pain. I've been badly injured plenty of times before but nothing, and I mean nothing was as painful as my sciatica. Couldn't walk, sleep, dress myself, sit, stand, or lay down without blinding pain.
I'd would have done anything to find relief. Two weeks of that Rx and it was like it never happened.

I add the Halloween stuff the last few weeks of October. Don't have much TGiving stuff, but because the Fall stuff has been up a good long time, I don't miss having it. We always go elsewhere for the actual day.

I got a severe muscle spasm while serving a game in a tennis tournament many years ago. I couldn't move for two weeks. Then I was prescribed some kind of muscle relaxant and it was like it never happened.

He was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma about 6 years ago. He was in remission after experimental treatment at City of Hope.
The cancer is no longer in remission and he is in another trial treatment. They hope to keep him alive long enough for another treatment to become available.
He is back at City of Hope this week starting the new treatment.
Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.

I would argue that Washington is both.
Without Washington:
1) If he had been a different man, he would/could have made himself king. We dodged a mighty bullet that would have been hard for any other man to give up.
2) Washington set the precedent of only serving two terms instead of being a defacto dictator for life. Which continued until a dem scumbag got in power and did not let go until carried out the door feet first.
3) Lincoln loses because of the things he did to win the civil war. I am not saying he was wrong in the moment, but in the greater scheme of things it may be a losing proposition (income tax, leviathan centralized government, suspension of certain liberties in times of crisis, etc.)

But then he repeats his mysterious assertion that Trump's involvement "normalized" the protests.
At least it's a mystery to me. I think Trump's actions only highlighted and intensified the controversy. And the controversy is hurting ratings (and probably other things). Which only adds to the organic financial/contractual other tensions building for the league. So how does any of that "help" the NFL? Just don't follow the argument.
Maybe if Brian comes along he'll correct my premises or something. But for now I see his premise, that Trump "normalized" the protests, baffling - as in, I see no basis for it.

Trump did unite the NFL against him. And, the NFL's allies in the media. And, other reflexively anti-Trump types.
But, Trump has most of the NFL's fans on his side. So, even though most of the players and coaches and owner are all united, losing the fans cost them the game. They cannot win in the long run. Which is why we are seeing movement by various parts of the NFL coalition. They know they miscalculated how the fans would react, so they must retreat.

Today is day 42 post eye surgery (right eye). The eye drop regimen is complete, no more PITA drops.
The left eye has 2 more weeks of Prolensa and Lotemax.
Thursday is an appointment for a progress check.
Right now, it seems a real success--I don't require glasses to read or see distance, and things are incredibly clear, I had some problem processing the amount of detail to take in, but that seems to have gone away.
Color me one hella happy camper if this is the final result.

He was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma about 6 years ago. He was in remission after experimental treatment at City of Hope.
The cancer is no longer in remission and he is in another trial treatment. They hope to keep him alive long enough for another treatment to become available.
He is back at City of Hope this week starting the new treatment.
Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Cancer sucks.

The NFL and the players made a great tactical play, uniting against their enemy, unifying, taking it nationwide - but they made a huge strategic error, in that they never realized that Trump and his forces would be able to move around behind them and cut off all of their supply lines.
Now all Trump and his forces have to do is wait, because the NFL's position is guaranteed to collapse in time, and they have no way of getting back to where they were before this started.

I disagree. What "battle" did they win? Get the "Smart Set" to praise them? They'd praise Stalin and (the real) Hitler before they'd even acknowledge that Trump might have a point.
Their only way to win (or, at least, "not lose") was to ignore Trump. Do that (and, perhaps, quietly encourage individuals to stand for the anthem and take their protest to Facebook or pre- or post-game interviews), and you keep the status quo.
But other than that (which, admittedly, only has "not a loss" to recommend it), their only options were bad. Either capitulate publicly and get destroyed by their erstwhile media allies, or (as they did) double-down on the protests and lose their fan base. I'm not sure they could have survived either way.

My doctor gave me one whopping refill in every year, if I needed it, and sometimes I didn't even need it because I had plenty left over.
Now that the laws have changed, I have to go to a fucking pain clinic.
I have to go every other month.
Every other fucking month. Random pee test. So, 120 bucks for the dr visit, 600 bucks for the pee test.
I always have pills left over, so I don't get another rx, which is okay except did I mention I just paid 700 fucking dollars to come in to this fucking place?
Did I mention I have to do this shit every other fucking month, for some reason this random test is also every other fucking month, and in case I didn't mention it, all this costs me 700 dollars?!
And that I have to do this every other fucking month?
I'm guessing it'd be a whole fucking lot cheaper to buy heroin, and that's why people are doing it as much as anything (talking about people who legit need it, not your average recreational user).
Oh and if I get caught with more than 30 pills, I get arrested for dealing. Don't have to actually caught selling them, just having them. So I could have 28 pills for an entire year, but still have to keep going in for absolutely nothing.

It's the only pain clinic for two hours, but even if I want to make that drive, THEN, Gentle Readers, I'd clearly be shopping clinics to get drugs.
It's a fucking racket is what it is, and Uncle Sam must be getting a helluva cut.
And junkies still gonna get their junk.
All this bullshit stops exactly zero criminals.
But it sure keeps the Feds employed and flush with cash (Gotta certify with the Feds for your license to run a pain clinic and testing labs, dontcha know)

Read the details of that incident. It involved Lauren Sivan, formerly a FOX hottie.
We're joking about it because, well, spooging into a potted plant and all is just hilarious, but this was rapey behavior.
He gets Ms. Sivan to "take a tour" of the facilities at some club, the owner of which he's buddies with. And thus the staff take orders from him.
He gets off into in the kitchen and orders all the staff to get out and leave them alone. Ol' Harv corners her and tries to kiss her. She protests and pushes him off.
Harvey has her blocked off somewhere in or near the kitchen area of this club. He pulls it out and starts whacking off to her. If she won't let him bang her, hell, he'll just whack to her right then and there.
He tells her to "shut up and stand there" until he finishes. Which he does into a potted plant, which happens to be nearby.
He has her cornered, and if she wanted to run, she'd have to run right past him, while he's whacking.
He then calls her the next day to ask her out, telling her "I had a great time last night".
That's what the potted plant thing is about.

I feel the same. I hated morphine when I got it after surgery on my wrist. I was groggy as hell and not in a fun way and still in lots of pain, so I don't know what the hell was the use of it or why anybody considers morphine fun.
But I'm pretty sensitive to drugs. I don't even take over the counter "day time" cold medicine when I have to go to work because it knocks me for a loop.

Just don't overdo it. I had an abscessed tooth once and couldn't get in to see the dentist right away. It hurt like hell, and I popped too much ibuprofen and got very nauseated. to have both pain and nausea at the same time sucks.
I think I'd rather deal with pain than nausea.

I've only had one surgery and had a narcotic prescribed for a very short term. It did its job and I did not dislike it.
It would be aggravating to need it for a real problem longterm. But it would beat being in pain, I think.

I don't hear anyone on either side bringing up Trump much. Nobody is watching games, despite anger over stupid racist stunts during the anthem, because Trump is on "the other side". The fresh data point of Pence at the Colts' game may be the talk today, but watch, by next Sunday it's back to the main issue - protesting the anthem.
That's what the trouble is about, not Trump, not Pence, that's what it has always been, and will remain. Note that no possible resolution of this (and I think Meremortal's original analysis that there is no real, good escape for the NFL on this is correct) involves Trump.
It's not about him, wasn't, and won't be. He may benefit, and "win", in some sense, but it's not about him.

And I am very grateful; the money is not an issue, really, it's the principle.
I do think it's jacked up, though; the law is every three months once clean urine tests have been established within a certain timeframe, iirc.
But there is awful turnover, new staff every time I go, which probably makes for chaos, and I also think they're terrified of not testing properly so they want to err on the side of caution. (Small town in the middle of the worst of the epidemic; have to have an rx for Advil Cold & Sinus, ffs)

The trouble with opioids (there is a difference between opioids and opiates, look it up if interested) is they hit the euphoria receptors in the brain. They make you feel real good, when the dose is high enough.
This is the brain's reward center. When you accomplish something, you get a rush of "endorphins" which are the natural chemicals that hit those receptors.
They also hit other receptors, such as those that control breathing and shit.
And you build up tolerance. It takes more and more of the drug to get the same euphoric effect. Now, the two curves, the euphoria effect vs the breathing suppression, follow different slopes vs tolerance.
An addict gets close to a coffin corner, where the euphoric dose is close to the lethal dose.
The other main route of ODing is when an addict goes cold turkey for a bit. The tolerance decreases quickly, and when he finally gets another hit, the dose he was taking fine before is now a lethal dose.
The trouble with opioids is they are *too* good.

I took Valium when I had one of my skin surgeries (the non cancerous one). I enjoyed that too.
... As in, too much. My dad was there and took the prescription, and flushed it.
This is why I take opioid abuse / addiction seriously. I could have been an addict. Easily. This honestly scares the shit out of me.

Not for opiods, I don't think. I asked about Europe, because I went this summer and had the opportunity to stay three months, but the clinic wasn't even allowed to give me enough for that amount of time, (Im not saying that right; what I mean is, I had I think 22 pills, and just wanted one more scrip to be safe, but then I would have too many on hand) and she said that a foreign pharmacy wouldn't honor them anyway.

Actually, this has been true and a requirement in quite a few police departments across the country, and for many years. My dad, quite a sharp cookie, got in via being a volunteer officer. He had to go to The Academy to get his commission, could carry a gun and even work alone, but never got paid for it. And he did it for over 20 years.
But I have long heard about the too high IQ thingy. I'm actually surprised the court upheld that restriction, though.

I think some of it is state, but some is Federal, the classification of the drugs for sure as well as the lab and office certification.
I want to say the visit schedules are, too, but that may be state.
The Ozarks are even worse than KY/WV, I think for opiod abuse. Truly I think it's the Scots/Irish-mixed- with-Native gene pool. This area was settled by people who originally settled Appalachia, for the most part, same genetics.
And like Appalachia, there were not many people coming in regularly and very few leaving regularly, so that addiction gene just kept getting handed down. Lotta redheads here, too, which is a recessive gene.

Believe it or not, the bulimia didn't kill her. Not really. She was using ipecac to induce vomiting. Overuse of ipecac damages the heart and that's what killed her. If she had stuck to jamming a finger down her throat, she could have gone on with her binge and purge routine much longer.

Look up the Schedule stuff. All opioids are Sch. II, now. Some, such as those with acetaminophen, used to be Sch III (because you couldn't increase the dose without taking too mych Tylenol, and destroying your liver), but they changed that.
Sch I is the illegal stuff, like heroin, cocaine, even pot. So Sch II is the most controlled behind the flat out illegal stuff.
Here in SC, there is a 30 day rule, and that's state law.
The rheumatologist I see can prescribe them, easy enough, but GPs usually will not. The DEA monitors this stuff, and if some doc looks funny, they can make his life miserable.
A rheummy has much more leeway.
And above, someone mentioned oncology. Yeah, there's not problem there at all. Even less than with rhuemmies.
With terminal cancer, or close to it, heroin would be fine. It would be better than morphine.

From a quick look using Bing, US medical degrees are treated the same as Canadian ones for being allowed to apply to practice in Canada that's not true for any other nation (not even other white Commonwealth countries like the UK or Oz) so I wonder. (Although it looks like Oz, Eire, and the UK are okay for family practitioners -- maybe the others are for specialist positions?)

I mostly take the Percocet for my trigeminal neuralgia.
And the docs are amazed I do not take a much higher dose. I"ll probably move up pretty soon, but I have been so nervous about continuously upping the dose that I just try and deal.
Sleeping pills that'd knock me out for several days would be my ideal, but that's Russian Roulette.

That is the trap, and the danger indeed. Tolerance.
There are things you can do, but do not trust amateur pharmacologist Publius or anyone else on the internet. Consult with real experts and make up you mind.
Dextromethorphan (DM), the cough stuff, can mitigate tolerance somewhat. There are other things that can increase the effect of opioids without increasing the dose. There's a term for this, I forget.
Benadryl and some other antihistamines can do it. What they do is saturate some path in the liver that breaks down various drugs, making the opioid metabolic path slow down.
You can do stuff like this to keep from increasing the dose.
But again, research that your own self and make up your mind. Stuff like this can be dangerous.

My dad with his cracked ribs (that aren't as serious as your mom's) was the same although mainly because he didn't like the weird dreams he'd have on the morphine (I'm assuming wartime-based), and because of the constipation despite the heavy-duty laxative he was co-prescribed.

As far as I know, it is strictly pain clinic here. Well, now, I am sure oncologists can prescribe pain meds, but I'm guessing the restrictions are the same, because why would the idiots in charge think exceptions should apply to any of their dictates?
But, honestly, it could also just be the GPs own decision around here, maybe they just washed their hands of it.

When my father his hip (because Ambien, plus other things), it got to hurting him really bad in the ER.
Now, with the elderly, drugs are a bigger problem because they can affect them worse, and metabolize them differently.
Well, they had given Dad enough morphine that his blood O2 was dropping slightly. That was the limit. But he was still hurting, so the doc put him on O2, and had the nurse slowly give him more morphine while watching the O2.
They were able to get him eased off, but they had to watch the O2.

If the pain is lesser then Ibuprofen works though I'll take as much as 800 mg every 6 hours at times. Tylenol doesn't do anything for me but for my wife when her MS has a flareup and she's not doing well 500 or 1000 mg will bring her right back.
There is for many/most people some drug out there that would addict you if you took it over some period of time. You won't know what it is unless you do it. The most addictive drug is nicotine, it hooks 70% or so of people who try it. Alcohol is around 10% and most addictive drugs are at 5 to 10%.
Addiction isn't good but the worst drugs are the addictive ones that make people crazy/violent. Meth and all the CNS stimulants are this kind of bad. Alcohol does also, lesser but it is a cause of many horrible crimes as some people get violent when drunk.
Like I said, everyone reacts differently, but politicians figure everyone is exactly the same. I and my present wife met back in the early 70s working at an early drug intervention/ crisis hotline place some friends of mine started to help people. We re-met and married in 2001. We have seen more than our share of what drugs and drug policy/law do to both wreck and help people.

Also, Aleve, Naproxen, is another potentiator of opioids (some of them -- the potentiation effect varies with the exact molecule).
And again, nobody take this stuff at face value. Read about it yourself. This kid of stuff can be dangerous.

They have lowered the max recommended daily dose of Tylenol/acetaminophen (paracetamol for those who speak Brit) from 4000mg to 3000mg because of liver damage studies.
Interestingly enough, in the UK, they used to make a formulation of it that included the antidote. It's interesting because what is toxic to the liver is not the drug itself, the original compound, but one of the metabolites. And that varies somewhat with the pathway.
But, to neutralize the toxic metabolite the liver needs some other compound (which I forget). You can get this in several ways. But, if you add something that will give the liver the added neutalizing compound it needs, you're okay.
And you can add this right into the pills with no reduction in the effect of the original drug. Which is neat, because usually an antidote counteracts the thing it is acting against.
But they don't make it anymore.

Sears is really one of the biggest loser stories on Earth. The company that made its name through a catalog and mail-order business was too stupid to understand how to use the internet. Sears was a company made for the internet - the original Amazon, as it were. They even had little non-stores that had no merchandise but just served as depots for the mail order pick-up.
But this company, that had pioneered large scale mail-order and doing business through a catalog couldn't figure out how to put their friggin catalog on a web site. It was really one of the most pathetic corporate fumblings anyone could have had the misfortune to watch.
Well ... even after Sears is long gone they will still have the Sears Tower - I don't care what the douchebag owners try to call it, it will always be the Sears Tower as far as I'm concerned. And it will stand like Ozymandias.

That's the wiki on tylenol toxicity. "NAPQI" is the abbreviation of the toxic metabolite compound. What the liver needs to counter it is glutathione.
Too much NAPQI depletes the liver's stores of glutathione and liver damage results. To counter it, you just replace it fast enough before any damage occurs.

It depends on which enzyme system is involved. Or you might be able to take advantage of that whackiness and be able to do something with it that wouldn't normally work.

Girl, it has been at least a year since I had a period and frankly I think it's been two, but my boobs are so sore. And I swear I had very mild cramps a few days ago, took me a minute to remember what they were, LOL!
But how is this even possible? Do sore boobs happen after menopause? I haven't even had any hot flashes for awhile.
And it's funny you should say that about thyroid, because mine is hyper and they've been trying to avoid surgery with meds and I feel like they might finally have kicked in, but now I'm wondering if that shit has started me back up again?!

Rogue ovulation is a great way to describe it, and the weird things is, this is the same time of year I'd have gone through it the very first time. I started the first time on Halloween, so about two weeks before I'd have been ovulating.
Damn it, this better be a one off, cuz I am not liking this sore boob shit, This is worse than it ever was normally.

Heh. The other big gripe with Sears. Trying to position themselves as an upscale "fashion" department store. When every mall they anchor, and all the ones around them are chock full of "fashion" emporia.
The name "Sears" is the kiss of death for a dedicated fashion faddist, and the term "fashion" drives away the solid burghers who just want durable, good quality mens' and ladies' clothing that won't cost them an arm and a leg.

The last time I shopped at a Sears was the time I wandered around looking for the ladies' clothing section because I didn't get the huge DAMAS sign hanging from the ceiling. When I finally realized what that meant, I also realized that Sears was no longer interested in my business. Buh-bye.

What an a**hole. He never misses an opportunity to lecture ignorant hateful Americans and show his PC cred. It is not about how we raise our kids, which would be a lot easier if it wasn't for the liberal cultural rot we are immersed in. It was about his friend and contributor Weinstein who is a poster child for that rot.

I'm a nervous wreck over this latest home improvement calamity ): especially after hearing that City inspector guy is a known troublemaker, ugh.
Thanks for the thread MisH, can always count on your threads to lift my spirits, and I desperately need that today. Got family in CA that I am very worried about, my dog appears to,be under the weather today but maybe that is just me projecting that's got him feeling puny. When it rains it pours, no pun intended.

I worked for a large international company with the same idea. They come up with some stupid plan. We told them we had tried it 10 years ago and it didn't work. We were looked upon as not being team players.
But this time, we were told, the company is 100 percent behind it. Thick manuals and training would ensue.
The company would finally realize how much money they were pissing away. Either stop the program or declared we had met our goal.

Personally, I'm skeptical about the millennials article. It's typical of a sort of "debunking" style writers are fond of doing. Take a superficial glance, pick some items that seem to work as you want, and you're done. It's as bad as the forced parallel articles (our situation is just like 1830/1272/306, or whatever year you choose.)

It the timing that is front & center now. I am beginning to think that Oblameo is behind the Weinstein take out after decades of his fellow Dems looking the other way. I think B.O. wants CA senator Kamala Hairy Kamel to run in 2020 with no dem competition, so Shrill had to go, thus delete Weinstein. AND I think B.O. may of used his own daughter MallRat as a mole in the Weinstein company to get the verification. Yeah ok, probably not about MallRat, but B.O. Is just disgusting enough to do something like that.

(Willie Brown is now 83 years old, Kamala is 52.)
