MSNBC Reporter Childishly Mocks Shooters Who Use Suppressors to Protect Their Hearing

This is where we are now, with reporters doing mocking neener-neeners as part of "interviews."

Video of her childishness unprofessionalism here.

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle on Wednesday mocked hunters who use firearm silencers to prevent hearing damage, putting her hands over her ears and poking fun at Republican gun legislation loosening silencer regulations.

USA Today reporter Heidi Przybyla told Ruhle that her reporting says President Donald Trump will visit Las Vegas on Wednesday to offer sympathy after Sunday night's massacre but not "offer any kind of hope" that gun violence would be addressed through policy solutions.

"Think about what was happening right before this massacre took place. We have a Congress here in Washington, D.C., that was moving in the exact opposite direction," Przybyla said. "They were preparing to loosen gun regulations, to allow people to use these silencers, to make them more available."

"Because the hunters, their ears were hurting," Ruhle said mockingly, putting her hands over her ears. "Because those hunters, their ears were hurting."

67 Daily Mail is my goto on all this.

They have tons of details that don't seem to make their way into MFM but sometimes when they credit the details they come from surprising places like Daily Beast etc.

They also do a thing that I kind of like, but wish they would do differently. They update their articles and keep all (or most) of their previous reporting in there. They don't correct or delete old reporting just because it is wrong - its good because you can see that the story has developed, its bad because if you pick out a part of the article that is old you can have bad info. For example, you can go into one of their stories now and read near the top about 12 rifles with bump stocks, in the middle about 2, toward the end 1, and there may even still be a reference to a full auto weapon (I am still not clear if he had a "real" one).

While I think it is good they keep the erroneous or incomplete information so that if you go back and look you can say "okay I did see that!" but I wish they would parenthetically correct it. So, for example, on the number of bumpstocks in the middle it should have inserted parenthetically (current information is 12). And maybe a link to the new info.

101 Wow. I just posted what I posted about DM, and I am reading their latest story about the gf:

Newsweek has since retracted a report they published late Tuesday saying that Marilou - a Philippines native - had once been married to two men at the same time and used two social security numbers during her two decades in the US.

The report had claimed that Marilou had two husbands at once, claiming she was married to both Geary Danley in 1990 and Jose Bustos in 1996. Geary Danley, 76, lives in Arkansas, but she did not divorce him until 2015, the report added.

But public records found by DailyMail.com showed they were in fact two completely different women.

DM doing the work that Newsweek doesn't do.

Still, the DM does have a picture of the shooter in a group in a casino that includes Danley from 2014, and pictures of him in the PI with her and family from 2013. She has clearly been involved with him longer than the beginning of this year.

150 >>>I read a smart guns blog and I didn't know about the bump fire stocks.

Because they are counterproductive novelties. It basically allows the whole gun to float away from your hand when you shoot, and then the "bump stock" bounces it forward again towards your hand, where the collision with you finger fires another round, and the recoil sends the whole gun floating away again. This is a ton of motion, and because the gun is moving all over the place, you can't aim for shit.

"Gatling cranks" are slightly better (or the similar concept auto-glove). Those are basically rotating devices that manually pull the trigger as you crank, so the gun movement is not as wild as with a bump stock. But that's not as cool looking in YouTube.

You are right. Yet I took this bill as possibly the one piece of legislation that the GOP-e could pass (and not f--- up) to save their face in 2018.

Keep in mind there were other components in that legislation besides suppressors. Keeping the government from banning the M855/M193 ammo. Reinforce the FOPA laws keeping states from targeting citizens traveling THROUGH them with weapons. Weapons that a person was legally allowed to have and carry in their home state and to legally have and carry at their destination.

New York State is like the Great Wall of China for people living in New England. Add in Mass. and CT and you truly roll the dice if someone living in NH wants to take a firearm to Florida for the winter.

The parts to convert are available. The Chinese market them. The question is why do it? Full auto is not that useful of a tactic. Breaking contact or suppressing a target, yeah. But the problem is you run out of ammo pretty quickly and then what is your move?

You seldom get a large number of targets packed into a tight space. Even the best ambushes require aimed fire.

185 In the United States, taxes and strict regulations affect the manufacture and sale of suppressors under the National Firearms Act. They are legal for individuals to possess and use for lawful purposes in 42 of the 50 states. However, a prospective owner must go through an application process administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which requires a federal tax payment of $200 and a thorough criminal background check. The tax payment buys a revenue stamp, which is the legal document allowing possession of a suppressor. The 8 states that have explicitly banned any civilian from possessing a suppressor are: California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia. The states of Connecticut and Vermont allow for suppressor ownership but prohibit using suppressors while hunting. The federal legal requirements to manufacture a suppressor in the United States are enumerated in Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code. The individual states and several municipalities also have their specific requirements. Federal law provides severe penalties for crimes of violence committed using firearms equipped with silencers: a minimum prison sentence of 30 years.

You can hear in the videos what appears to be full-auto fire. It is continuous, and certainly faster than you can pull your trigger on your own. Reporting says he had 12 rifles with bump stocks, and we have seen a photograph of one of them. Also seen in photgraphs are double stack 100 rd mags for ar-15s.

Unless he also had a full auto converted AR 15 in the room, he used at least one of the bump stock weapons.

Posted by: blaster at October 04, 2017 01:09 PM (I3yVB)

196 The parts to convert are available.

Posted by: Puddin Head at October 04, 2017 01:05 PM (YV+SU)

Right, why are we even accepting the lefts premise that "full auto" is something desireable if you're in a military and/or mass shooting situation.

There's a reason our troops don't carry fully-auto Thompson guns anymore (like in WWI) -- because its a stupid waste of ammo and you have next to zero accuracy.

Burst mode has its uses for cover fire, but again -- you're basically just making noise at that point, it is not a tactical advantage to have a gun that shoots out all 30 rounds with one trigger pull.

Not exactly, they make some noise from wind friction, tires on the road, suspension, etc. There is some engine noise as well, electric motors are not soundless, just much quiter than a continuous series of controlled explosions.

240 The question is why do it? Full auto is not that useful of a tactic.

This is where "gun culture" I think needs to stop and listen to itself.

These arguments that they aren't useful and who needs them and they make you less argument and no one would want them anyway...are being put with arguments that you can't possibly ban them because I want one!

This is disjoint. Clearly the shooter in Vegas wanted one. He wanted a dozen. And that they were not good for accuracy seems to have played no part in his decision to acquire them. The only think they seem to be good for is mowing down people in a large crowd!

Now, in the shadow of Vegas, go make the case that this is sancrosanct.

I am not suggesting that bump stocks should be given up as sacrificial lambs to appease the Left. I am suggesting that the rhetoric on the "for" side needs to be better.

248 Personally I don't support the "lets legalize suppressors" push. It seems like a pretty minor need when even basic ear protection is good enough for hunters. Suppressors have a secondary effect of making it more difficult to spot where the bang came from which isn't helpful for law enforcement or people seeking cover.

---

I support it because it's a LOT easier to get a kid or wife interested when the .22 is just mechanical noise and not a sharp crack. I'd imagine it's similarly useful when moving up to larger rounds.

I'd love to hear the difference in .270 and 7mm with a quality suppressor. Those are about the worst to my ears.

Outside of a few militaries, which ones have seen the most combat? Yes, we have full auto. They are normally machineguns. Most individual weapons (not all) are semi auto or offer a 3-round burst selection (exception is sub-machine guns - notice a trend in naming yet?). Close combat is an area where individual weapons with full auto are desired. This is particularly true of urban environments. That being said, full auto requires an enormous amount of personal fire discipline or you will find every man in your unit shot his wad in a mad moment and the entire unit goes silent while trying to reload.

Harry is right - the US military went through some serious doctrine experimentation when the repeating rifle was made practical. The focus up until then had been on individual marksmanship, which gradually but inexorably went to firepower volume and suppressing fire. In Vietnam the results were less than optimal and TRADOC started looking at going the other way.

Select fire has its uses, but at the squad level it is impractical and generally ineffective to have every single fire team member do a spray and pray. You have a SAW for covering fire, and the other members of the team can use semi auto or three round bursts to greater impact.

My opinion as I see the way Army doctrine has been moving back and forth over the years.

263 Yes, and that makes it dangerous for blind pedistrians who can't hear them. What this country needs are electric vehicles that sound like Harley Davidson hogs so people can hear them coming.

That is why guns have to be loud, to protect blind pedestrians who otherwise might wander onto a shooting range.
Posted by: Skandia Recluse at October 04, 2017 01:10 PM (m9X4Y)

Makes sense, about the poor blind pedestrians.

However, instead of making these sound like motorcycles (which might cause those blind pedestrians to misjudge distance, because those electric cars can only go... what, about 9 MPH?), have them continuously blast a loudspeaker sound that repeats the phrase "STUPID UGLY DOUCHEBAG-DRIVEN CRAPPY ELECTRIC CAR COMING," over and over and over, everywhere they go.

Imagine if the 1st amendment was this "compromised" on. We'd say "well, shit, it's meaningless at this point."

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at October 04, 2017 01:03 PM (wmaTe)

++++

The real problem is that many Americans are ignorant about the intent of the 2nd amendment. It was not put in our constitution to protect hunting or competitive target shooting or even personal protection. Those are all wonderful benefits of the right, but they aren't the primary purpose.

The framers wanted to preserve the citizenry as the rulers of this country. When it comes to the defense of the republic, the defenders were to be drawn from the citizens, who would be bringing their own weapons. This would also prevent the government from using the military to rule over the citizens.

Therefore, any legislation that bans citizens from owning any weapons that are available to the military violates the 2nd amendment.

298 The real problem is that many Americans are ignorant about the intent of the 2nd amendment.

Not exactly, they make some noise from wind friction, tires on the road, suspension, etc. There is some engine noise as well, electric motors are not soundless, just much quiter than a continuous series of controlled explosions.

They're just a lot quieter than an ordinary car and in normal traffic you won't hear any of those sounds.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 04, 2017 01:13 PM (TZPec)

so quiet it is really nice

we have at least 4 electric vehicles in our immediate neighborhood and you cannot hear them coming or going, especially when moving slow

if running over gravel or a bunch of fallen leaves, you can hear them - or if the stereo is loud

children will never notice them

we just bought a Prius Prime - with all of the fancy techie stuff. It's like driving a comic book car. Very fun. Loads of AI (which no doubt we'll have issues with later on) but my husband has not bought gas since we bought it - months ago. Electric power is cheap where I live and gas is 4 times what you pay in the states, so it was a financially sound purchase. And we couldn't be the government subsidy.

I know. Now, I'm a liberal. No, we are techies (gamers for life) who are fiscally conservative. Plus, I like fun toys. The Prime just came out recently and it is very fun to drive. Only complaint is it is too low to the ground.

315 If you have ever been downrange and actually fired at, you would realize that the sound of gunfire isn't what your concerned about and isn't the major indicative.

5.56 Bullets travel faster than sound. It's when someone gets shot, you hear the ricochet or the unmistakable sound a round makes when fired at you, one goes into reaction mode. Gunfire is notoriously hard to locate directionally, especially when shot from a distance. See the LVPD body cam footage as one example. After minutes of shooting they are still trying to locate the direction.

322 Therefore, any legislation that bans citizens from owning any weapons that are available to the military violates the 2nd amendment.

I have a different perspective on this, and it comes from Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the US Constitution. That's where congress is able to issue letters of marque and reprisal.

These allow a ship to cruise for enemy vessels privately, as a "privateer." They are essentially pirates, working for a specific state, against another specific state or set of states. Like someone cruising against, say, Germans in WW2 with their own yacht.

Privateers were allowed full military capacity and behavior: cannons, swivels, everything. Today that would be essentially a modern frigate or patrol ship, with all the same weapons as a military one.

This means that congress can, by law, allow a civilian to use and own military-class weapons, but only for specific purposes against specific enemies.

327 U.S.—In the wake of the worst mass shooting in the nation’s history that ended at least 59 lives and wounded over 500 others, citizens across America were forced to take a quick, hard look at the facts, and ask themselves how exactly they can bend what actually happened during the course of this ghastly tragedy so that it supports their own preferred narrative.

“When I saw what happened in Las Vegas, it was so tragic, I knew immediately that I had to find a way to twist the story so it furthered my political and social beliefs,” one local man told reporters. “We all have our differences in this country, but when a national tragedy of this magnitude takes place, we have no choice but to do whatever it takes to frame it in such a way that it pins the blame on our enemies and scores us points in internet debates with people on the other side.”

Citizens across the nation went so far as to confirm that as soon as news of the violence broke, they immediately began secretly hoping that the shooter was the type of person who would fit perfectly as one of the antagonists of their worldview, whether that be a Muslim, Christian, atheist, American, foreigner, Antifa loyalist, racist, liberal, conservative, or anarchist, as they frequently refreshed the home page of their favorite news source which is unabashedly biased and exists to support their own specific opinions.

“There’s a time for weeping with those who weep—that comes later. But immediately after an unspeakably horrific act such as this, we must look inside ourselves for the strength and courage to distort the facts about what happened, if need be, and then come together as Americans and argue as though our lives depended on it,” the man being interviewed added to reporters. “Just like we did after the last national tragedy, and just like we’ll do after the next one.”

Back in the day, as a SAW gunner, we carried on live fire exercises, 200 round drums, and while it was generally necessary to control the burst if you were aiming at something, just letting it go was tactically sound under some circumstances.

However, when on live fire exercises, the purpose of emptying the drum was so you didn't have to carry the damn thing back with you. So it would not have in any way been the purpose to "aim" at anything.

I see where Mortimer is at. Bump stocks are a novelty on the pro 2nd side and a liability with incidents like this. Moving them to class 3 would seemingly be an easy sacrifice.

But, as others have pointed out the other side is relentless. The whole silencer thing is an attempt to stop a common sense proactive 2nd amendment measure--the first major one in many years. Can't have ANY backsliding for the antis. I would be comfortable with a package that approved silencers and the other positive provisions in exchange for the bumpfire deal.

The lifestyle, planes, money, etc. was his cover.

The familiarity with weapons and security fit. If it's true the girl friend was affiliated with the CIA then more so.

I'll now put on my heavy duty tin foil.

432 Jimmy Kimmel is Nation's Moral Authority

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Kicking off a rousing and emotional monologue on his Jimmy Kimmel Live! late-night talk show Tuesday during which he laid out yet another case for the common-sense nature of his views on policy and the evil barbarism of those who hold different views, host Jimmy Kimmel reached into his desk and produced a document officially declaring himself America’s greatest moral authority.

“I know some people have questioned my impassioned political speeches, so let me just show you this,” Kimmel said before presenting the document for all the world to see. “I guess I assumed it was obvious due to the tone of my lectures and the obvious emotion behind them, but just in case anyone is unclear—I am, in fact, this nation’s highest moral authority.” The paper, which contained the words “Official Document” in bold at the top, appeared to have read “This document officially certifies James Christian Kimmel as The United States of America’s highest moral authority; furthermore, as the sole arbiter of truth within the land.”

“Go ahead and zoom in on it,” the host said as he held the paper still for a moment. “Take a good look. And check out those asterisks at the top—this is the real deal. I sincerely hope none of you will question my authority again.”

“So whether I’m holding court about nationalized health care, women’s rights, or gun control: I am right, and only right, all the time. And if you disagree with me, you are wrong and you passionately “So whether I’m holding court about nationalized health care, women’s rights, or gun control: I am right, and only right, all the time. And if you disagree with me, you are wrong and you passionately want people to die,” he added.

At publishing time, the document’s origins are unknown, with most experts hypothesizing that Kimmel himself printed it out in his office before the show.

I never liked the original (and current standard Prius) but the techie Prime model is like being in a child-like spaceship. Big iPad looking thing built-in to the dash. Cheap interior really, but so is the price.

It also plugs into any standard outlet in our house/garage. You do not need a special outlet for it by default, although you could get one installed and charge it twice as fast, but we don't need it.

458 I used to be in favor of gun control when I was a liberal-no, not a leftist) but having served churches in rural areas where law enforcement was at a distance and where bears would come into your back yard, and people had guns for protection and for hunting I'm now much less in favor of it than before. I think leftists don't know what they're talking about (I will freely admit I don't know a darn thing about guns and have never used one) and so my opinions reflect that of David Harsanyi (?) in the sidebar (paraphrased ), "If people are taking about gun control without being specific and why it's needed, it's to control gun owners." So you see folks, even liberals can have a "conversion" on this issue. Also, it would be nice if instead of mocking gun owners they could have some intelligent arguments. Maybe newspeople are just sophomoric.

So if you are locked up for, saying rape, murder, stealing from widows and orphans, and any and all other assorted crimes, and you have a diagnosis of psychopathy, you should NEVER be released. Assuming your sentence is Life. Because if you are a true psychopath, chances are you've accumulated enough crimes after a while that it should be.

Depending on where you live, there's a logic to having an electric or hybrid for errands around town (i.e. short-range), and a gas car for longer trips and weekends.

Let's not forget, a *lot* of networks have executives or personnel with close ties to the Democrat party (Jay Carney's wife comes to mind). So it might not be just a question of ratings for them. There might be some kind of kickback. Posted by: Bob Loblaw at October 04, 2017 01:25 PM (XhN8Z)

This is why I am super annoyed by the "it took 72 minutes for the police to find him" BS.

This is not true. Shooting was reported to the police at 10:08 pm. 72 minutes later - 11:20 pm - police were standing over the shooters dead body.

A hotel security guard had already been in front of the shooters door within 20 minutes of the start of the shooting. The shooter shot through the door and wounded the security guard. 10:28pm

This information was given to the police. A uniformed cop was near the room by 10:56 pm. He said he was going to enter, incident commander said wait for SWAT team. Swat team knocked in the door (does not appear to have been a breaching charge, they either used a shotgun or knocked it in with a ram, and used flashbangs on entry) while the shooter was shooting at them through the door. Then he ate a .357. At 11:20.

Also important to note - the shooter only shot at the crowd for 10 minutes +/-. When the security guard came to his door, he had not been shooting for a while. When the police got to the door, he had not been shooting for a while.

501 I have nothing against Prius, etc but battery technology has not advanced enough for subzero winters.

It hasn't advanced enough for a lot of ordinary car use. But if you are very wealthy and have another car already, sure an electric car is great for small use stuff like going to work and back.

Its still true though, that you save money by driving a gas car. All that cost up front is what kills your budget with the electric car. Even with the subsidy from the government, you still pay more than an economical equivalent sized car and regular gasoline. Throw in the inevitable multi-thousand-dollar battery replacement (manufacturers say 10 years, but they claim your car gets 40 miles a gallon, too...) and the price is even worse.

503 have nothing against Prius, etc but battery technology has not advanced enough for subzero winters.

Depending on where you live, there's a logic to having an electric or hybrid for errands around town (i.e. short-range), and a gas car for longer trips and weekends.

That's what Europeans and the Democrat/globalists don't get-- the ability, nay, freedom, to hop in your car and just go somewhere is pretty fundamentally American. (Ok, not literally fundamentally, but you know what I mean.) Trains and buses are fine and have their place, but if I go on a daytrip, I want to be on my own schedule and take my own route.

the beauty of the Prius Prime is that it is electric until after so many miles, then kicks into hybrid or gas, your choice. You have 3 choices of energy usage.

508 This is not true.

At 11:20.

509 458 I used to be in favor of gun control when I was a liberal-no, not a leftist) but having served churches in rural areas where law enforcement was at a distance and where bears would come into your back yard, and people had guns for protection and for hunting I'm now much less in favor of it than before.

Indeed, brave. I don't know whether it saved lives or not. The shooter had already stopped shooting.

I think that "despite all its faults" we have this blessing in this shooting. For whatever reason, he stopped shooting after ten minutes. He had plenty of guns, he had plenty of ammo. He could have continued firing for longer. Many more people would be dead or wounded.

But he stopped.

I don't know why. For some reason, I have this feeling that whatever it is that he thought he was achieving by opening up on the crowd like that, he realized that he was not achieving it.

And that he had regret.

you'd have to try it to understand and get used to it

the AI is deep and handy once you figure it out (for cold climates you can let it determine when to charge the car by telling it when you want to use it next, for example)

you rarely have to use the screen once you are set up. Wipers come on by themselves when it starts to rain. Lights same.

all cars have touchscreens now... even my gas chugger

some of the systems turn off in mine automatically (like the music apps) if you are driving or going in reverse, etc

It is serious business, actually, as it just won't get better for me. Try sleeping at night when all you can hear is a constant tone in the quiet. If anything, I'm more pro-silencer now than ever.

I think that DOD has experimented with modern earplugs that are supposed to have some sort of valve that closes at certain decibel levels. This is supposed to allow for constant use. I don't know if that shit works or not.

That's odd. Colbert married a white woman and has 3 biological children, which is above replacement.

Why didn't he do his part, and do something hip and trendy, like adopt a minority or marry one?

And of course it's not settled at all that whites will ever be a minority. Human psychology taken en-masse has changed radically before, and may change again. Liberal whites tend to have no kids, and may select themselves out of the gene pool, leaving whites who tend to have larger families, thus paving the way for a recovery.

I am quite sure that the fact that he had stopped firing at the crowd affected the way that the response happened. There is some criticism of the fact that a uniformed cop was told to stop and wait for SWAT, and there was a 24 minute pause in the action, if you will. But clearly they were attempting to take him alive. Because they did not shoot back into the door while taking fire, they breached the door and threw in flashbangs.

It would not surprise me that if the shooter had still be raining bullets on the crowd that the IC would have told the first uniformed cop at the door to go ahead and make an armed entry, or that if the IC had said to wait, he might have gone in anyway. We can't know, because that isn't the way it went down.

As to putting a guy on the roof - maybe, maybe not. Again, we can't know.

And you'd be wrong. Many ships carried a gun or two, as defense against pirates. Private ownership of cannon was legal. Letters of Marque and Reprisal gave shop owners legal authority to attack shipping owned by a designated foreign power.

Britain issued letters of Marque, too. It has nothing to with self-defense or the Second Amendment, at all.

534 bump stocks? I mean -- why? If anything, it hurt his accuracy. They're kind of a silly toy, but again -- we're talking a stock with a spring in it. How hard is it to manufacturer your own at home? Not hard at all.

Bumpfire stocks do not contain a spring and in fact the ATF explicitly outlawed any kind of assistive device in the firing process. The bumpfire stock is essentially a cheap piece of plastic that allows the gun to buck around and hit your trigger finger. This wobble obviously greatly decreases the potential because the gun is in constant motion.

Unfortunately the POS chose a target that had 22,000 fish in a barrel and accuracy wasn't required.

In reality the gunman had 40+ minutes of shooting time and he could have probably killed a lot more people if he aimed and shot in semi-automatic mode. If he shot semi-auto the wounded count would be lower but the death count much higher.
