Honestly, there are so many ways to attack a music festival like that. I've heard reports that the shooter had an aviation license, so a plane crash would have potentially done more damage.

Also ran a MP5 suppressed (shot semi as well as full auto) along with suppressor foam. Around 110 decibels suppressed. While tolerable without hearing protection, it certainly isn't quiet.

Only crimes that have happened since everything got digitized. A lot of localities, due to cost, just blew off digitizing anything before the 90's, so a fair amount of those old records have just disappeared.

Years ago I read of a case in the book about the Medical Examiner of NYC, Milton Helpern. A Pacific WWII vet came back home, was acting a little oddly, until he suddenly killed himself (and maybe some of his family? Can't recall) with his souvenir Samurai sword. At autopsy it turned out he wasn't insane, he had lobar or "walking" pneumonia, which can interfere with the blood supply to the brain and cause you to have delusions just as schizophrenia can.
I'm not saying this could be true here. For one thing, I don't know if this LV shooter could have planned and carried out his atrocity while suffering from walking pneumonia. The WWII vet had been walking around for a while before he committed his murder/suicide -- without anybody thinking he was more than a little "reserved" after his grueling tour of duty in the Pacific.

Yeah, I can't fault the guy.
Maybe if he was a combat veteran he would have thought of that, but I'm sure he was freaked out.
Also.. from the looks of the map, it would seem like the shooter was behind him. However, his crew people operating the sound/lighting were in the line of fire, and knew exactly what was happening. They probably took cover under their equipment (lighting and sound consoles are pretty large.)
/they knew what was happening because shows are consistent, and IF they had those kind of pyro hits, they would be in the same place in the show every night. So they would know immediately that something was wrong.

That whole "know your target and what lies beyond it" applies even when you're under deadly fire. They would have pistols if they were even carrying. Impossible shot, plus out of range plus, plus... even with a properly set up rifle, and having information on range and elevation, you'd be shooting into a dark room at something you can't see. It's not a shot.

If you are referring to the Colt lower blocks that prevent popping in a drop in full auto sear, only Colt altered their lowers (don't know if they still do) to prevent this, to my knowledge. As I recall, modifying an AK is even easier.
We are not talking about milling operations to go from semi to full. Select fire, sure, would be more difficult.

The B-2 bomber is a sub-sonic aircraft. Top speed is in the 650 to 700 range. The B-1 on the other hand, is a supersonic bomber with a top speed of around 1500.

That's what my moderately informed ear heard while listening to those videos.
The firing rate on the long burst while the music was playing was slower than other bursts.
I've heard full auto ak and burst 556, but not 7.62x51.
We'll find out eventually
