Poll: NFL's Favorability Cut Nearly In Half In a Week

I don't know what it will take to convince corporations that changing their corporate mission to becoming Full Leftist Propaganda Outfits is contrary to their business interests.

But maybe this will be instructive.

The Morning Consult passed this press release to the Daily Caller:

NFL's Brand Favorability Drops To Lowest Point Since Morning Consult Started Tracking: The NFL’s net favorability has dropped from 30% on September 21 to 17% on September 28.

On September 21, 25% of Trump supporters said they had a very favorable view of the NFL and 11% had a very unfavorable view.

As of Sept 28, those numbers have dramatically changed with 33% of Trump supporters say they have a very unfavorable view of the NFL and 16% report having a very favorable view.

A little insight I got from an acquaintance (and I hope I'm not breaching trust by mentioning this):

Corporations make these political decisions based mainly on ad hoc advice from their PR and HR departments. Blue employees, in other words.

Who do not make their decisions based upon data -- like "What will our actual customers think about this?"

I hope this is not giving away any trade secret of his, but he wound up doing such a study for a company, actually looking into who a company's customers actually were, and discovered that, as far as he knew, he was the first person to look at a company's customers' political leanings in offering advice on whether to position the company to the left on a political issue, or simply remain neutral.

The first. Person. Ever. To Even. Bother. Performing data collection and analysis to inform the choice of whether a major major company should declare itself Social Justice Warrior.

The rest of the time, the decision was just made based upon gut feelings (and political preferences) of their liberal middle management castes, who, I imagine, based their rigorous analysis on what Rachel Maddow said the night before.

Meanwhile, a lot of blue employees are pretty determined to talk themselves out of a job. The Tennessee Titans' Delanie Walker had simple advice for those bothered by the SJW takeover of the NFL: just don't come to the games.

With ticket sales already down 17.9% from week 2 to week 3, I'd say a lot of people already figured out that one for themselves.

When the NFL players' salaries start getting cut because the league isn't making nearly as much money, do you think these special snowflakes will demand a federal bailout?

Don't dismiss that out of hand -- after all, the NFL is already sucking millions of dollars every year from taxpayers, who happily agree to build their stadiums and give them special tax incentives, all for those exciting new job opportunities in the lucrative careers of Seasonal Parking Lot Flashlight-Waving Traffic Engineers and Part-Time Hot Dog Assembly Managers.

This fiasco may, however, open the eyes of the public to a serious and generally unchecked issue: billionaire NFL owners sponging enormous amounts of money from taxpayers through crony capitalist schemes.

The fact is that a business that raked in $14 billion in revenue in 2016 is heavily subsidized by local, state, and federal money based on dubious claims about stimulating the economy.

Next time the NFL comes askin' you to vote in favor of a municipal bond to build their stadium for them, or give them some local land gratis, I suggest you #TakeTheKnee yourselves.

11 Ace, ace, ace.

First, you got it all wrong, Trump normalized the protests by getting involved, now it's just an anti-Trump thing. Plus, he said "SOB", which pretty much kills his chances for re-election.

Second, it's more than 10 miles from where you live.

Third, there are so white supremacists, and stuff, so the protests are righteous, and who we are, you might say.

26 The strangest part of this whole thing???

The NFL has rules, and guidelines...

BUT, not following the Guidelines can also get you penalized with fines, or loss of draft picks.

There IS a very specific one on the National Anthem... that teams WILL be on the field... and will stand, not talking, with their helmet in their left hand...

The guideline even STATES that they can be penalized with fines for this.... and explicitly says even on the first time it happens...

So once more.... we see that not following YOUR OWN RULES, gets you in trouble...

So I finally looked it up. Like how would they do it, etc.

37 A recent case of "no sale" to NFL subsidies was San Diego, where the voters did not approve a deal for a stadium to keep the Chargettes in town (a majority actually approved, but a super-majority is required on such measures).

Impossible to say for sure, but the thing might have passed if the ownership wasn't so unpopular, and deservedly so (the Spanos family really does seem like it was a one-generation thing, the father made the fortune, the son and grandson now running things demonstrate no competence in anything connected to football).

Way things are going, probably the last intelligent, or at least not disastrously stupid, vote that will prevail on any topic in any urban area of CA.

Just ain't working. And all this now, made the cold turkey decision oh-so easy.

76 also, to your point, ace -- I was kind of a fly on the wall in a business meeting of a medium-sized publicly traded company where one of these SJW-type topics got brought up.

As you say, the public relations department ran the meeting, suggesting going along with a SJW-type thing (I really can't be more specific without possibly violating my NDA).

Long story short, everyone was entirely onboard until one of the older, didn't-give-a-shit-type sales directors spoke up and said, "well, er, did anyone poll our customers on this kind of stuff? I mean, what happens if we alienate a large number of our customer base? How will taking a stand impact the company's sales and my team's ability to sell?"

And, I swear to god -- everyone in the room sat there in stunned silence. I really don't think that had occurred to them. Maybe I'm not giving them enough credit, but it was ... surreal.

Long story short, the company ended up doing the smart thing and saying out of politics. But I can absolutely 100% see how a company would make the wrong decision on something like that.

78 When I first got on the interwebs back in '94, I couldn't wait to find like minded fans of Ayn Rand -- and discovered an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) group that met regularly to discuss her ideas.

It was there that I first learned of the existence of "Socially Responsible" (read: Environmental Leftist Wacko) Mutual Funds and we enjoyed mocking them. I remember proposing that, were I in the business, I'd create a "Socially Irresponsible" Mutual Fund.

I could never have imagined how insane our country would become in a mere 25 years, but the clues and writing were certainly on the wall back then.

Read Daniel Greenfield's article about the illegal monopoly the NFL has got going on and how all the politicians are, of course, on the gravy train.

It's just one yuge racket. From beginning to end.

It really explains why there has been no rational movement out of the NFL to date. They are like a legalized mafia.

85 somewhere I thought I saw Budweiser was going to be in discussion with the NFL over the anti-America stance. of course Bud is now foreign owned, as I understand it. For basic beer (or anything else) ... there is no reason to buy foreign owned products, especially if they sell at a premium.

the Clydesdale commercials are nice, honoring 9/1 and all that patriotic stuff ... but FOREIGN owned. This is what happened with globalism and the Wall Street easy leveraged money crowd. Everything gets sold ... to enemies or semi-friends that are themselves just part of the globalist machine.

The stock/bond market has become a Ponzi scheme ... when they don't buy our bonds we just buy them out of thin air .. the fed writes a check with nothing in their account. (QE) And they are almost certainly doing the same with our private markets (stock and bond) as Greenspan suggested would be just fine.

Just get people to keep working, and manipulate the currency/markets ... oh, and always bail out the corrupt 50:1 leveraged billionaires, and ignore US law in favor of London International Bank "law", which says it is fine for HSBC to launder billions for the drug cartels ... just have to keep the transfer of real wealth going ... transfer to those that play in fiat currency, underwritten by America itself.

anyway ... yeah .. corporate America is now corporate conglomerate globalist mafia ... destroying sense of national pride is part of the game. Fluckers.

I wonder. Historically, the disruptions were about money and power. Everyone understands that. This time, it's about how most of the game's players hate you. That will tend to detract from the experience.

I also think a lot of people who can't afford it spend tons of money on football because they think that's what they're supposed to do. They think everyone's having a grand old time watching the games, so they want in on the fun.

My guess is that this episode will at least partly break the spell. People will figure out that they really don't miss it all that much, and it's nice to have the time and money to spend on other things.

On the business idiocy in stepping into political questions: it's obviously rampant, and just as obviously not based on anything more than arrogance and authoritarian impulses. Look at the tech CEOs (many of the most famous). These people are about as "American" in mindset as Viacheslav Molotov or Reinhard Heydrich. Vile, alien values and civic outlooks.

Their damage to society vastly, vastly outweighs the value of anything they produce (much of which is in the "toy" category anyway).

145 Really glad you mentioned the exciting "jobs" these stadiums create. They're always breathlessly reported as creating "300 jerbs!" in the local press and 98% of them are minimum wage. They're not even full time jobs. The people running the stadium make decent money but it doesn't take many to do that job and I ought to know because the father of a friend of mine when I was a kid ran the local ballpark for the minor league baseball team. He made good money as did a few of the groundskeepers but everyone else made peanuts.

152 Speaking as one who suffered under Lee Brown's misrule in Houston, these big cities are full of Free Shit voters and, also, cogs in the Dem machine. These will vote themselves Collissea on the grounds of "revenue for minority owned businesses!!", meaning rinky-dink franchises of overpriced junk food and weak beer sold in the stadium itself. The voters also aren't the ones being taxed to pay for the interest on those municipal bonds.

The NFL won't be asking for the bailout. The cities will. Expect JJ Watt and his crew of assholes to show up in Austin with sad stories to tell.

I hope that when Houston's suburbs see this, they'll send representatives to Austin to vote "hell no".

155 130 We really do need a frank national conversation on race in this country, but not the one liberals think.

We need to tell the bruthas that at this point, their problems are almost entirely of their own making. Wrestle with a cop for his gun and get shot? That's on you, sport. I don't care if you're blond and blue, and belong to a country club, you do that, you're gonna get smoked.

So it's time to pull your socks, get your fingers out of your asses, and make something of yourselves. Graduate high school, get a job, stay out of trouble. In short, adopt the much deprecated but invaluable bourgeois culture.

171 SYDNEY - Daniel Parfitt thought he'd found the perfect drone for a two-day mapping job in a remote patch of the Australian Outback. The roughly $80,000 machine had a wingspan of 7 feet and resembled a stealth bomber.

There was just one problem. His machine raised the hackles of one prominent local resident: a wedge-tailed eagle.

Swooping down from above, the eagle used its talons to punch a hole in the carbon fiber and Kevlar fuselage of Mr. Parfitt's drone, which lost control and plummeted to the ground.

I've thought that too: making teams go both ways, the way the game started, would be MUCH more interesting. With "third and long" guys and such, there's way too much specialization. (One reason I also hate the DH rule.) Make teams balance a player's offensive vs. defensive capabilities.

Just like in video games: if you can choose total armor, AND total firepower AND total mobility, it's not really that interesting, and certainly not real world. The interesting part is the tradeoff you choose between them.

Yes.

Bastardized scripture.

The Babylon Bee had a post up today that was titled something like "One question that determine whether or not you are a mouth breathing bigot".

When you clicked on the post it said something like Do you think marriage is between a man and a woman like Christianity and Scripture have taught forever?

If you clicked yes, it called you a bigot.

That was a satirical post, but I believe at this fellow's church it would be seriously posed.

245 I've thought that too: making teams go both ways, the way the game started, would be MUCH more interesting.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at September 29, 2017 08:01 PM

Yep. It's a good game, but it's become way too specialized. Get the QB on for offence AND defence, etc, leran some new skills or get slaughtered... everyone develops alternate positions, and keep the game moving. It would be fascinating to watch. You can stick to purely offence and defence lineups and field specialists if you want, but when possession changes, they're on their own. Reduce stoppages and let fatigue enter into the equation. Also, let tacklers and blockers smash each other how they want and reduce the penalties for infringing on the receivers. Bring back rushing/running as a force to be reckoned with, as it will with players needing to be more rounded in skills.

Fenelon, you've ALWAYS got to vet the church more than just looking at the "what we believe" page on their website. For fake megachurch pseudo-churches like these, that statement of belief is an attempt to excuse the bad teachings that they give out week after week in person. The sermons themselves need to be analyzed.

THIS.

We practice all year round here in SoCal, and have pitchers from the minor leagues (or rehabbing from MLB) show up at the field in the run up to opening day.

We invite them to hit with us (BP thrown by an MLB scout, no less), but they decline, saying they're pitchers. I think this is stupid, because ability to hit (or at least bunt) could easily affect your W-L record, and whether you stay in the game or not.

My take: too specialized.

I say, "Yeah, but suppose you could cheer up your W-L record, or stay in the game, because you could hit/bunt?"

I don't understand that mindset. There have been plenty of pitchers that have been good hitters. Like, oh I don't know, Babe Ruth.

I remember watching the Phillies' Rick Wise pitch a no-hitter on TV back in the 70s. He also hit two homers in the game.

Posted by: rickl at September 29, 2017 08:38 PM (sdi6R)

274 And bunting seems to be a lost art. Hardly anybody wants to do that any more. It's not sexy enough, I guess.

But besides the usual function of moving up the runners, a well-placed bunt can go for a hit, or cause a defensive player to make an error. That could have a huge impact in a clutch situation.

Then the owners can issue a written apology and allow me to whip them, naked, through the streets of Aberdeen. Then the players who kneeled at the beginning of this thing should be thrown out of their home stadium a la the Klingon devisiture ceremony with each person in the stadium turning thier backs silently. Afterwards. When seen people should be encouraged to pelt them with rocks and garbage. The rest should be fined $1M each and a new rule, in addition to the one that they ALREADY HAVE, entitled the "Shut the f*ck up and play football rule" should be adopted requiring stupid jocks and the public leeches owners to just shut the f*ck up should be adopted. Then and only then will I begin to forgive. I will never ever forget however. I will be watching very carefully.

Oh and for those who think this is extreme? It doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what I WANT to do to them.

276 " Corporations make these political decisions based mainly on ad hoc advice from their PR and HR departments. "

As the left thinks 1984 is a manual for society, they also think Dilbert is a manual for running a company. Catbert and Dogbert, advisers extraordinaire.

277 They don't care about profits. This is ideological. They will sink their rating right into the ground to get what they want.

280 The entire concept of the concentration of ANY power in HR departments is what specifically put America out of business.
The unelected bureaucrats in govt handed power to big brother (sisters too) wannabes in the Newspeak "HR".
