EMT 09/23/17 Just say No edition.

A little Saturday morning salt:

Fuck you Arizona, and all the rest of you cancy-ass, incumbent protecting at all cost voters.

How's all that sneering at principled voting and beating that drum of getting the best candidate that can "win" paying off? Got-damn but wouldn't a President "I'll complete that danged fence" McCain have been just the conservative bulwark that would turn the tide?

There has always been one simple solution to the problem. You vote for the person who best represents your values. If there are no candidates who represent enough of the values you hold dear, you should never fear abstaining.

The Left will burn itself out and eat its own, win or lose. The Right simply has to demonstrate a better alternative to their anarchy, in or out of power.

This is the 2nd time in my life I have watched the Right gain the White House and the Senate and House, and utterly waste it if one were to place any credence in their campaign promises.

You cannot beat the darkness by pretending it doesn't exist. It only gains strength when people simply pull the blinds to hide its encroachment. When those people are no longer in charge of the strings, the blinds come back up and the shadows are still there, roused again, indignant at the temporary pause, and more hungry than ever.

If a candidate is so obviously contemptuous of your values as, say John McCain whose blank and pitiless gaze ought to be a dead got-damned giveaway, you don't support his or her poisonous contempt with your vote just to keep someone else out of office.

This is the primary reason why the ratchet in this country has and still continues to turn in one direction. Republicans far too often see winning the election as a the job. So, we see professional campaigners whose singular strategy is to demonstrate "electability", and what few principles they do espouse are simply different words they tell to different people to get a vote.

Every time they come back with their hands outstretched and the threat that "this time it's the end of the world if you don't say yes," and "We promise to keep our promises and this time we we mean it, if you Just. Say. Yes.".

What has that gotten us?

How many of you really think continuing to do the same thing is going to achieve a different end than that which comes slouching towards us down that comfortable and familiar path?

Saying "NO" will set you free.

and Yes, I am angry and bitter so, Yeats.

9 There has been hacking of voter registration (but that is not the actual voting machines).

Election officials in 21 states have been notified by the Department of Homeland Security that hackers targeted voter registration systems ahead of last year's presidential election.

In most cases, the systems were not breached. A small number of networks were compromised, but those affected were not involved in the actual tallying of votes. In most of the states, the targeting involved preparatory activity, such as scanning computer systems.

The states targeted are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

I did exactly that (I refused to cast a vote, and voted "none of the above") and was verbally crucified for saying I would no longer throw my vote to a candidate I didn't believe in.

As for McCain, it has been all about him since the day he use his daddy's clout to become a pilot when the instructor insisted he did not have the aptitude for such an important function in the military. McCain killed men with his incompetence behind the stick, then killed more with his signing of a false confession that better men refuse to put their names to. I won't write his sordid biography here, but he is someone deserving to be president just about as much as Hillary is. He assumed it was his turn, and now his hatred of Trump will kill the Obamacare repeal the same way Kennedy's hatred of Nixon killed the universal care bill in the 70's.

I regret my volunteering in '08 to fly from WA to FL in order to help his candidacy. I talked to a lot of GOP voters trying to GOTV. 88 And on a side note Windows 10 decided on it's own to switch all my old
Excel spreadsheets over to the newer Office 2016 programs which came
installed as "introductory" use with my computer. I can't figure out how
to switch it back or how to delete this BS introductory program. The
delete command takes me to that old list of programs to choose from for
removal and neither office 2015 nor Exel 2015 is on there. When I go to
actual shortcut links to choose the operating program it can't find
Excel 2000 which I did load on the computer. Any of the windows 10
Morons here got any clues?

Vic, are you sure it's Office 2015 you had? Office 2013 was the last release. And Office 2000 probably won't play nice with a Windows 10 computer. It's too old.

The Trump administration is drafting a new policy to quickly deport more than 150,000 child migrants from Central America who arrived alone in the U.S. illegally, creating a new class of undocumented migrants.

The Department of Justice and Homeland Security is drawing up a policy proposal in a series of memos, according to two sources with knowledge of the internal debate who spoke to the Miami Herald.

Instead I vote for the candidate that will steer the country in a direction I want it to go. Often that's only a numbers game: how much of X party is in control of Y to balance out Z? How many openings on the Supreme Court are expected to open up within X years? Sometimes more is on offer, sometimes less. McCain was Less.

107 True enough, but what follows? I don't expect - ever - to get people who actually represent my own views, which I doubt are shared by 1% of the population. ("We are the 0.2%!"). I'll agree that McC and Flake* have gone beyond the pale.

But there are other cases. I have a friend who retired to Maine. He hates Collins, but did vote for her, as the best Maine could do, and he thought having a Senate majority was important. (Yes, he's not so sure now, but that's Kentucky's fault; the point survives. I was familiar with this point growing up in NY. During all that time, we got one (1) term of a genuinely good Senator.)

But we all know what McCain (doesn't that name mean "son of Cain"?) is, and know what to expect. As with Anthony Kennedy, we just have to cross our fingers and hope that he has exactly the correct balance of boogers in his nostrils to make him vote right for a change.

The one I don't get here is Paul. I have another friend ("You have two friends, George? I'd never have expected that.") who was deeply involved in actual campaign/primary type politics. He said that the one thing you could count on with libertarians was that they would screw you and break agreements. Always. It was just a matter of when, and on which "principle" they'd justify their betrayal. This despite the fact that he's - ideologically - pretty close to libertarian to this day. E.g., though supporting Trump, he won't budge on many issues like antitrust, immigration, or trade, AT THE LEVEL OF THEORY. He says he accepts that he's getting half a loaf, but then, that's half a loaf in hand, so he'll take it.

One biggie for me, and both the above mentioned friends is his driving the commie media to destroy themselves. Remember just a while ago that girl who was convicted for getting her crazy boyfriend to kill himself? She was a harbinger of Trump vs CNN. But what Trump is doing is perfectly legal, despite what Brianna Stelter and Ms Acosta say.

*Nice that he doesn't need a nicknamed, although "Snake" does work.

130 Perhaps your Office 365 installation did an overwrite of your xls file association. You can correct that little problem without resorting to editing the registry. Simply type "assoc" (without the quotes) into the Search Windows box that is found near the Start button. That will give you the option to choose a default app for each file type. It will take some time for all of the various file types to load, and once they are loaded you will need to scroll down that extensive list of files until you come upon your Excel file types. There are several types (file extensions change over time as program versions change) associated with Excel and you'll want to set them all, and in your case, particularly the ones such as xls, etc.

Most people that voted for Trump, imo, voted for what he was saying, even as they had doubts he would follow through. Just having the voice was enough, since most others were flipping "us" the bird on major policy. That Trump's "fans" are not just Trump sycophants seems clearer now, since they are largely not backing Trump's guy in Alabama.

As Ace says, it was a binary choice.

To me the choice for Trump was clear earlier, as Walker and even Cruz I felt showed signs they would carry water for the establishment, in the end. Cruz met his wife working deep inside the Bush regime. Heidi worked for CFR and Goldman Sachs, and the establishment jumped in with Cruz at the end of the primary.

"In the end" it may be Trump has been forced into the establishment corner to some degree. As Coulter says, it is Trump that got off the Trump (campaign) train, not her.

Trump is now talking about the transparent wall, which I presume is a fence with more than three barbed wires. But the establishment is being confronted, and maybe the tea party type patriots that McConnell and McCain hate will see a resurgence in 2018.

Is this what 'leading the fight to stop Obamacare' looks like? 'Cos it looks exactly like leading the fight to save Obamacare.

So now McCain says that if he wrote the perfect bill himself, one that would save lives and save strapped families money and unleash small businesses, he wouldn't vote for unless Democrats gave him permission?

McCain has set an impossible Goldilocks standard--not too hot, not too cold, but jussss' right! Even this modest reform is too much for Sen. No.

So let's see your bill, Senator. The one that will get 60 or 70 votes in the Senate. You say that's the only one you can support, so write it. Liar.

What a horse's ass.

I'm so sorry I ever supported him. It will never happen again. In fact, I'm leading the fight to repeal and replace John McCain.

"This time...it's for real."

140 Re: Vote or not?
Democrats hate me, hate my country. I vote against them always, always.
If you are not a student of history, you will be a victim of the SOS.
At 18, Organized Labor (donkeys) told me to go to hell, so I did. I still vote against them. Straight F'n Ticket is a helluva time saver at the polls.

141 As an Arizona resident for quite some time, believe me, I am just as disgusted as you by McStain. I have voted against him every time, but, alas, there appears to be a number of folks who always return him to D.C.. Funny that - all my pals who fought in 'Nam, or are veterans, hate his guts...not a small number, either.

142 Just so. 2018 is going to be the toughest decision vote ever taken by real conservatives: vote against the dishonesty and intellectual corruption of the Republicans (and thereby enable the damn Dems to screw us over), or vote for more of the slow death that Repubs have been delivering for twenty years now. I don't have an answer.....yet.

143 Hey. C'mon now. I'm a lifelong AZ resident and detest McCain. We campaigned AGAINST him and have called regularly to express our anger towards him (in a non threatening way). So to say FUCK YOU ARIZONA is really unfair. Our son remains active duty, been to Iraq 3 times and Afghanistan once with other deployments in between. There are many sons and daughters of Arizona who serve and have served. We are embarrassed by this guy. Please don't hate on all of us.

144 The problem is, a lot of Democrats support McCain in Az. He's put together a coalition of country club republicans and Democrats

Plus the people that usually run against him are 2nd rate and can't raise any money.

And then you have people like Sarah Palin giving him cover for the rubes

146 "If voting could change anything it would be made illegal." Robert Borden wrote this decades ago, and the undeniable truth of his statement is plainly demonstrated to us every day. Vote for a supposed Republican like McCain and get a resounding repudiation of everything he said he stands for. Vote for a man who promised a border wall, repeal of the ACA, and tax reform, and get exactly none of it.
So, why the charade of letting us "choose"?
The ritual of voting is actually critically important to the crypto-oligarchy that runs this country, for two reasons.
One, it keeps the proletariat pacified, distracted, and divided. Two, and most critically, it ensures that our fingerprints are all over the scene of the crime.

147 "If there are no candidates who represent enough of the values you hold dear, you should never fear abstaining"

Exactly.

And that's just what I did at the top of the ticket in 2008.

Obama or McCain? Fuck them both.

No way in hell either one of those assholes was deserving of my vote. And I was right.

148 Hey, I'm a refugee from the People's Republic of taxifornia. Knew when moonbeam was elected, state would go to crap. Did not vote for McStain, none of the above. If his primary opponent had not been a Bugs Bunny cartoon, would have voted for her. McStain spent a lot of money on Internet ads on conservative website plus all the tv and radio. Couldn't believe a red state like AZ could only produce Ms. Ward as an opponent. Figured the fix was in. Escaped CA so my vote would count. Even in red San Diego county, meant nothing as coast went blue.

149 I have lived in Arizona longer than John McCain has. As far as I am concerned he is a carpetbagger and I have never voted for him.

150 Let the record show that I did everything I could to primary McCain. And when that didn't work, I VOTED FOR THE DEMOCRAT. I said 'anyone but McCain,' and I meant it. The only difference between Juan McSame and a Dem would be that the Dem would be honest about what he stood for.

151 "There
has always been one simple solution to the problem. You vote for the
person who best represents your values. If there are no candidates who
represent enough of the values you hold dear, you should never fear abstaining"

This was the exact logic I used to not vote Trump and I am still painted as some liberal fucktard for it. I left the GOP because the whole damned party does not represent enough of my values. The increase the size of government, spend spend spend, when they have the chance to limit government they just double down on it, like a liberal. Fuck'm all, let it burn and the real makers of this country will keep things going like we always do.

152 The communists put the hurt on McCain and he puts the hurt on Americans. Why is Arizona so blind? Now it's too late...He will ride into his grave with this awful legacy of being useless.

154 The rant makes it sound like AZ loves McCain, or the voters are a bunch of hapless rubes.

The truth is, the state party is split about evenly between McCain's "people" and what I would call normal Americans. The two camps are quite distinct, and everybody knows who is playing for which side.
The two sides are constantly warring, like when the "normals" CENSURED McCain (anybody remember that?), or when the McCain camp "forgot" to pay the rent on the opposition's meeting place.

I used to be a precinct committeeman here, so I know what I'm talking about.

The voters didn't re-elect McCain because they love him or because the state is overrun with Californitards.
They voted for him because:

1) They were prevented by the GOPe from having any prominent other choices. The best we had was a state Senator (Kelli Ward, who is now beating Jeff Flake). There were several Congressmen who would've won easily against McCain, but none of them would run. They were bribed/threatened by the GOPe.
2) It looked like Hillary would win, so we didn't want to give her the Senate. Anyone who tells you they KNEW the outcome of the 2016 election beforehand is a liar.

It's important to understand this, because most states have a similar situation: a lifer barnacle who can't be ousted from office except under extreme circumstances. The main way this happens is by the GOPe eliminating threats in the primaries.

McCain is just more visible than most.
