Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | John "Build the Dang Fence" McCain Liesplains His Obamacare Reform No-Vote: I Won't Support Any Law That Democrats Don't Support TooNot that surprising to see a Democrat defending the interests of the Democrat Party. Strange that a vain, narcissistic man who claims to be The Only Straight-Shootin' Maverick Truth-Teller in DC would lie about his actual party loyalty, though. It’s worth noting, by the way, that his rationale is rather bizarre. His key point -- one he reiterated in his tweet announcing the decision-- is this:We should not be content to pass health care legislation on a party-line basis, as Democrats did when they rammed Obamacare through Congress in 2009. If we do so, our success could be as short-lived as theirs when the political winds shift, as they regularly do. The issue is too important, and too many lives are at risk, for us to leave the American people guessing from one election to the next whether and how they will acquire health insurance. A bill of this impact requires a bipartisan approach.Fine, but if so, what was literally all of this about? It’s been clear since early this year, when Democrats rebuffed the original Cassidy-Collins bill, that no Democrat would support a repeal or deep reform of Obamacare. If McCain sincerely believes this, he should have been a firm no from the start, and shouldn't have teased everyone by flirting with support for the various bills the Senate considered.

I have a thought. Why can't the Republicans simply pick the most obnoxious RINO, say McCain, and expel him/her. Then announce that if The People want change they should elect as many new Republicans as possible and we can expel more, for example if we gain ten seats we will expel eight of the worst.
Strip them of the cover, remove their committee assignments. They were willing to punish the Freedom Caucus, make them enforce discipline on the left wing too. It would be far more productive with 53 cohesive Republicans than it would be with sixty. With sixty there would be the expectation of breaking filibusters which of course can't happen with RINOs and thus a disillusioned base. And with a real threat to clean house every two years so long as The People were willing to do their part the routine "unexpected" betrayals would quickly end. In SC if no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote a runoff is required between the top two candidates. That keep assholes with a big bankroll for running phony candidate to dilute the opposition. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at September 22, 2017 04:33 PM (mpXpK) 93

---------- I was wondering what Trump's next move on this will be. It maybe to do nothing. I don't think he want's to waste political capital on it. He'll need it for tax reform. Hopefully Trump realizes what prior commentor mentioned: Dem's effectively have control of the Senate. Act accordingly. Trump needs the R pickup's in the 2018 election to get his agenda through. The problem is that waiting for 2018 with no legislative victories will hurt their chances in getting those wins. God I hate the GOPe. I only keep my sanity by remembering the WI/Walker model: 1. Go Bold, 2. get majority, 3. replace squishes with true conservatives, 4.win! Posted by: WisRich at September 22, 2017 04:35 PM (G0vdT) 105
>>Jimmy Kimmel is being intentionally obtuse or he is an idiot. He has to
have been told that insurance programs for children of low income families exist and have existed before Obamacare and will exist after Obamacare. He's high on the authority that his newly-minted victim status gives him. He's now looking out for all the little people because he's navigated one particular health crisis with the assistance of his Hollywood $$$. Then it's been reinforced by all the praise he's received for this. In his mind, it's now bigger than him: people *need* him to maintain their own kids' coverage. We should not be content to pass health care legislation on a party-line basis, as Democrats did when they rammed Obamacare through Congress in 2009.
But it's not being done on a party line basis. JJ made a similar point on the news dump. Someone said how it's a shame that Republicans might have to go after political enemies, and JJ said, no, it's because those political enemies are criminal. We should be passing a repeal because OCare is an unconstitutional shit sandwich. If we do so, our success could be as short-lived as theirs when the political winds shift, as they regularly do. They only shift because assholes like you never do anything, and people think maybe aimlessly flitting to the other side of the uniparty with a different letter will make a difference. The issue is too important, and too many lives are at risk, for us to leave the American people guessing from one election to the next whether and how they will acquire health insurance. But if the healthcare system is so crappy that "lives are at risk", then people's only hope is for some kind of change in the system, brought about by election. A bill of this impact requires a bipartisan approach. But since they won't compromise, why not just say "a bill of this impact requires a Democrat approach"? No. It's part of the kabuki. McCain will be gone soon. Graham is losing his buttbuddy and must run on his own now. As always, he needs to look like he's moving to the right before every reelection campaign. McCain provides the kill shot on behalf of the GOP (and Graham more specifically) as this legislation fails and Graham doesn't get left holding the bag while he poses as a guy "who just tried to get things done via compromise but, gosh darn it, we just couldn't get it done". This is pure politics and failure theater. And McCain just being his usual, backstabbing a-hole. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at September 22, 2017 04:46 PM (H8S+R) 175

Gang of 7-- old enough to remember McCain's role in it?
The guy teamed up with other great Republicans (Lincoln Chaffee; Susan Collins; Miss Lindsey) to throw W's judges under the bus-- when the GOP had a 55-45 majority! Thus, he preserved the judicial filibuster, which is NOW holding back Trump's judicial nominations. A despicable, grandstanding whore? Yes... but consistent. He gets reelected because his GOP primary opponents never unite behind ONE alternative. We'll have Obamacare forever now, until it's replaced by single payer, which it will be. I know it's a lot of speculation, but how different would things be now if McCain had won the election in '08?
Would America be in any better shape? It's doubtful. We may or may not have got Obama, but there's a good chance we would of had him or HRC after one term of McCain. Chances are Government would have taken over healthcare anyway--possibly with more bipartisan support and a faster track to total nationalization. Additionally, there is no telling what kind of foreign interventions America would be involved in. Either way, government growth and spending probably would be at the same level it is today. We'd surely have open borders. It's a toss up as to where America would be at this point in time. Posted by: Gaspergoo at September 22, 2017 04:53 PM (WUuhi) 216

173 California Tech Firm Hands Out $66 Million in Cash to Random Strangers to See If Welfare Makes You Smart
$1,000 per month. Wow. That'll sure change some lives. I wonder how much that is in crystal meth. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) The completely crazy part is that the recipients were chosen at random -- NOT just pre-existing welfare recipients, or "poor people." Most of the people getting the money are employed, possibly even well-off. The "experiment" is to prove that the $1,000/month guaranteed for 5 years will give you enough of a "psychological cushion" that you will "take risks" and thus cure cancer or invent Facebook or something like that. Meanwhile, the "control group" who will get "only" $50/month are supposed to feel "unsafe," and thus WON'T cure cancer or invent Facebook, because they're not getting enough welfare to give them the cushion. Of course, the funny part is that the reverse will happen -- the $1,000/month people will kick back and smoke doobies all day long because they have no worries, while the $50/monthers will scramble to make more $$$, and thus be more "motivated." Basic economics -- how does it work again? Posted by: zombie at September 22, 2017 04:55 PM (DQ4Fv) 239

He's nothing but a liar and a fraud and a con. I stopped voting for him decades ago. I only supported him for president (and only after he received the nomination) because the alternative was so horrible. Why people keep voting for him is a mystery. Every 6 years he pretends to care about border security, then as soon as he is safely re-elected, he votes against every border security measure. And he views himself as some type of heroic figure for continually and deliberately deceiving and betraying the people who vote him into office. McCain is just weird and pathetic. That's it, right there. They don't. The Uniparty cares about itself, power, the deep state, money, committees, access. People of the country barely make a dent in their considerations. That's why a populist victory was viewed with such derision...basically sneered at. The social contract has been shredded. Not sure there are even ethics anymore. The moral compass broke long ago. 340 St. Louis Board of Aldermen vote to honor the heroin dealer that tried to run down cops while fleeing and was shot while going for his gun.
More innate deviance of the Democrat Party. _______________ They should take the crumpled, marked police car that he twice violently rammed with his car as he was attempting to escape from the cops who wanted to question him about his drug dealing activities, and set it up in front of City Hall as a testament to how poor, innocent Mr. Smith was just minding his own business when those evil white cops started chasing him for no damn good reason . . . . Paul (and even Collins/Murkowski) ostensibly opposed it on substance. Per his stmt, McCain opposed it only b/c Democrats don't like it.

Sorry; As you know people are usually not at all rational when they are under a lot of stress, so as hard as it may be not to take it personally right now, try to think of it as directed at you, but not about you. you just happen to be the person that's getting the emotional all out, but it sounds painful. Posted by: Tentotwo at September 22, 2017 05:45 PM (yhf6w) We were talking about this elsewhere; McRINO would have been an absolutely miserable POS as President and Mutt Rombley not better. Keep in mind, his vote gave all the other "republicans" cover to vote for the bill and thus hide that they, too, want to support the democrat party line. I'm not saying he didn't want to vote no, i'm just saying he saved someone else from having to show their true colors. Now that he's dying, he's going to vote his true democrat heart except for when it comes to sending american military men and women to die somewhere. He'd never vote no on that.
