Remember, people weren't the only ones hurt by the recent hurricanes.

There have been a large number of animals displaced by flooding by Hurricane Harvey. This remains an ongoing disaster, as the Brazos and San Bernard Rivers are still above flood stage.
My wife and I traveled to the Brazoria County Fairgrounds in Angleton, TX, where a refuge has been set up at the county fairgrounds. Dogs, cats, horses, cattle, goats and chickens are safe there from any further ravages of nature, but the sight is still heartbreaking and these four-footed friends will need ongoing help. Please consider making a contribution to the SPCA of Brazoria County (https://spcabc.wordpress.com) or the Houston SPCA (http://www.houstonspca.org) or your local shelter.

Meet The PetMorons

Hey guys,
Here is our cat Samantha. She is our Christmas cat having gotten her for our oldest son 8 years ago from the pound for a Christmas present.
She likes to lay around and recently achieved her life long goal of sleeping 36 hours in a 24 hour period. Way to go to Samantha.
She also loves to jump on our bed at night and purr and kneed the sheets. If I can just train her to massage my back, it'll be golden.
We just recently discovered that if you scratch just above the base of her tail she gets an uncontrollable urge to lick herself on the shoulder. My wife and kids think it's hilarious to no end but I feel sorry for her when she goes into the trance. -Ken

Long-time lurker. These are 6 of the 8 rescues in our pack of spoiled rotten doggehs, with Aubrey, Hannah and Riley front and center and with Bailey, Chelsea and Brody in the background. They’re all mutts of unknown provenance nor of prior life circumstance. They eat, they sleep, they play hard, they eat some more, they sleep yet again and they don’t do a lick of house work. A pack of 8 dogs does, however, make an excellent burglar alarm and we have multiple delivery personnel that approach our house with great trepidation. They are all adored and I can’t imagine life without them. -Fred

I'm with you Fred. Can't imagine a life without pets. They are a nice looking crew. There is no mischief in any of those eyes.

Since you asked:
Last October, we had to put down Charlie, the Sheltie whose photo you used last year; old age finally caught him. Around Christmas, I remembered our vet telling me how the holidays are when the most dogs are dumped/left/surrendered at this office so I asked him to let me know if a small dog good with traveling became available.
The next day, he called back to tell me he had a dog whose owners had to give him up due to family health problems. Thanks to them, we now have Jude, a black miniature poodle. He’s five years old, loves hiking, accompanying me while geocaching, and jumping from the motor coach to see what’s new at each stop. He’s not much on obedience, but we’re working on that. - wcgreen

Long time lurker and occasional commenter. Sidenote: I occasionally used the name 'MyGfHasBigBoobies' until the horde demanded pictures to prove it. Now it's 'MyWifeHasBigBoobies' booyah!
That is CJ, who was my wife's cat when we first started dating. She didn't like me in the beginning, as I came from a dog family and she totally ignored me. Now, almost six years later, I can't get her to leave my side and she has accepted me as family. Thanks for the blog, keeps me sane in an insane world. - Zach

Long time lurker scmommy and this is our girl Darla. Our 3 year old rescued us 2 years ago. The police found her abandoned, the vet estimated she had been on the streets for about a month. Here she is hiding from the thunder raging outside, pretty sure my baby got caught up in some storms during her time on the streets. When the weather isn't so loud, she protects us from the evil squirrel population in the neighborhood.

Thanks scmommy. Your poor Darla looks just miserable with that storm at hand. Thanks for being a lurker and a submitter!

Hi -- I'm a lurker and sometime commenter 'Alix'
I just love Pet Thread and -- and so I thought I'd submit our two mini Aussie Shepherds for consideration. On the left is Noel (8 years old) and on the right is Rosie (just 5 months old). Rosie sure loves to play. Noel does too -- but sometimes she's too tired and gets slightly annoyed with Rosie. It's so much fun to watch them interact.

Well, pooh! Miss Delilah showed at the Lone Star Borzoi Club specialty in Belton today and was only Reserve Winners Bitch. Had she been Winners she would have finished her championship.

Finn and Dan are entered on different days at the Humble shows in the first week of October and if either is Winners they will finish.

Thanks for sharing. Sometimes I do make your pics my iPad wallpaper for a week or so. Hope that is okay. They are daily reminders to smile.

Also, the art thread has had some scary pics I cannot use for wallpaper. And the squid with teeth pic that made 2 separate threads on 2 separate days was a visual nightmare! And those unholy dolls were from a horror flick. Sadly, those are emblazoned on my brain...of course.

Some COBs have a Vincent Price streak in them. Or the mischieveness of a brother. I'm sure they Muahahahahaha with devilish delight at least weekly. Except for the sweet Pet thread.

30 Way to go Miss Delilah!

Hadrian, voterpup is awesome except he's a car chaser. We are working hard on that.

Today I got him to just stand at a stop when cars go by, so yay! (We are practicing walking side by side and stopping randomly).

Oh he also gets way too excited at seeing other people - hooman & doggo, so that's another thing to work on.

He loves to play tug, gets really fierce complete with play growls, and he loves to play fetch. And sometimes he just wants to be petted and if you stop petting him he nudges you until you remember not to stop.

Hmmm! Only 22 years behind popular culture. I'm improving.

The Far Side was pretty good. But discontinuing Calvin and Hobbes was a crime against humanity. Best comic strip in the last 50 years. Imaginative, artistic, sometimes touching, and always hilarious. That's why I have all the books of the cartoons.

Wasn't that at all. Sam Waterson was deathly afraid that the people who took a chance on publishing him in the first place wanted to make some money off of the strip.Other things like Coffee Cups, Stuffed Animals, anything that would make a buck.

104 It's pretty well known that when you pet or scratch a kitty just forward of the tail they get funny. Most cats including mine will raise their back end up, my other kitty would do the shoulder licking bit.

--In the early '80s Garfield was hilarious. I have memories of picking up the latest book when there was a book fair at school. The first few strips when Odie and Nermal were introduced made me laugh, well, at age 7 anyway.

135 Love the pets this week.

I taught our rescue dog Ole who was very food motivated and fairly give me attention wired to sit, lay down, and got him to 'play dead' with some prompting. The next step would have been roll over but we never got there. I took care to never teach Ole to shake hands as with his personality there was high risk that he would paw at people randomly demonstrating his trick in hopes of praise and treats. I also taught Ole "stay out of the kitchen when I'm working in here" Ours is narrow and I hated having him underfoot. With a bit of shooing out and treats when he stayed outside the doorway he quickly learned to park himself just outside but where I could see him "being good"

Toby came knowing sit, lay down and play dead and I reinforce once in a while. Mia knew sit, she didn't need a lot because she was always outside.

If I had a lot of free time and wanted to really explore teaching a dog new things I would pursue dog agility. I think the instructors sometimes recommend starting with rally just to learn to have the dog do stuff with spectators around and beyond leash range.

137 My dog is very good at teaching the granddog basic commands. I say 'sit' dog sits, granddog looks at him and sits as well. Same for fetch and give. It really is remarkable how much the younger one (in between her obnoxious border collie/lab hyper) pays attention and tries to emulate the old dog. Youngest kidlet wants another dog while he's around to train it.

139 If anyone is still here, we are rescuing a 6.5 year old springer tomorrow. Owner is driving across state to bring him. He and the new baby aren't getting along and the wife wanted to put him down. I don't know how he'll do with our dogs but at least he was raised with cats.

Has anyone ever known a dog to refuse something to eat ?(sick dogs excepted, of course).

Or a dog will say " Oh no thank you, I've already eaten, but I'm sure there's a dog overseas that needs a good feed, provided they haven't made a meal out of HIM yet" in Sam Kinison's voice.
