Oh My: Climate Scientists Admit Past "Models" Were Wrong, Admit That the Rapid Warming Predicted by Models Hasn't Been Seen, and Revise the Schedule for the Apocalypse to Put It Off for 20 Years

Defining doomsday down.

The National Laughingstock (the SJWashingon Post) sheepishly confesses:

The new research, thus, seems to potentially empower a critique of climate science that has often been leveled by skeptics, doubters and “lukewarmers” who argue that warming is shaping up to be less than climate models have predicted…

Overall, the dispute raises questions about how widely the carbon-budget concept has proliferated -- and just how much we actually understand it.

“It goes to show, this carbon-budget approach is still much more, let’s say, immature scientifically than what we often assume,” [Center for International Climate Research’s Glen] Peters said.

122 No, not a question of "maturity" of any of the concepts. Lack of any fundamental basis to the *entire* concept - that CO2 concentration (whatever the source) can, or ever has, driven the (dubious in itself, as a concept) of "global climate".

And recall that many "skeptics" (itself a bizarre and fatal indicator that there's no "science" happening - skepticism and focus on empirical verification *is* science) have stipulated these fundamental, unproven, premises that are not just *not* indicated by the geologic record, but contradicted by it.

But there is a clear lack of energy, vituperation, and bluntness in the overdue push-back against this non-science. Even in pulling out of the Paris accord, the administration stupidly framed it in terms of details, and relative financial burdens. There needs to be a political and PR offensive to crush this idiocy, exploit its vulnerability. And reject all of the premises from the outset.

Now it's politically inconvenient to do so.

It's called an Inter-Glacial Warming Period, that period of time between Glacial Periods. The cycle is about 25-30 thousand years. The Earth has been through this cycle about a dozen times in recent geologic time.

The current Inter-Glacial Warming Period has been going on for about 10 thousand years, a steady rise in temp with some occasional deviations up or down from the general warming trend.

Calling this normal climate change human-caused is the exact same nonsense as a witch-doctor claiming the volcano is rumbling and going to erupt because the gods are angry over the evil ways of the people.

Remember that uncertainty empowers them.. traditionally. If they can claim uncertainty *only* about whether it's already too late, they can stampede people, because uncertainty breeds fear just as well as it saps credibility. 238 They are walking it back because what they have said would happen has not and is not happening. This despite the outright distortion of weather and temperature data by NOAA and NASA GISS. The massive gain in the Surface mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet and the fact that Arctic sea ice has grown 40% since it's most recent low in 2012. The fact that new glaciation is starting. The fact that the Great lakes this year are running 2-3 deg F below average temp. And so many more metrics once claimed to be the "canary in the coal mine" are defying the dire predictions made for them.

And the fact that people, sane everyday people, just aren't buying what they've been selling plus tons of other factors just can't be ignored or covered up anymore like the fact they failed to get into the US coffers when Trump refused to play ball on the "Paris Accords".

"Climate Change" was never about the climate. It is the ideal tool for the justification of the implementation of a socialist agenda. The UN IPCC was never a scientific body but a political one. Every single word in the many IPCC reports are parsed by politicians before the report was released. And it was the IPCC reports upon which the claim of a consensus was founded.

262 That sounds like my old happy fun church. I loved it - felt very close to the Lord during worship time. Previously I was in a more traditional evangelical church, and was initially reluctant to switch - but happy fun church was where my daughter's family was, and I wanted us all to be together. Surprisingly, I liked it. Although I had to get used to the pastor preaching in jeans and a T-shirt. That, I could do without. But hey.

297 Well, let's see:
First Earth Day concerned about global cooling. Settled science.

That idiot and well known oceanographer Ted Danson in the 1980s predicted the oceans would be dead in ten years. Settled science.

Ice caps shrinking, polar bears floating on ice cubes, caribou herds increasing (only because they were near the warmth of pipelines). Predictions of ever worse hurricanes (that didn't appear for over a decade). Settled science.

Gradual and grudging exposure of the methods and motivations of the climate scientists who refused to release their data, were caught admitting they lied about all of it, wanted control of economies because they are Marxists so everything is justified, constant and more frequent use of 'concensus' when their lies are revealed, and a growing realization by the public that fluctuations in weather have been happening for several billion years. But settled science.

Reliance on societal and personal attacks on those who want proof of their predictions of catastrophe before disrupting the most successful country in history. Concensus and settled science shouted ever louder and more violently.

What a relief they got it right this time. Phew!

Speaking of weather balloons, have not followed up on it, but I thought I read where a serious look at radiosonde data (from weather balloons) - which unlike surface temp data give an insight into atmospheric temps/conditions (obviously) - had also yielded yet more "no warming pattern" results. That data goes back to the early post-war period, I think.

Also ticks me off that the kid doesn't have a Texan accent. It's one thing having the grown character not have it when he supposedly left home very early to go to university outside of Texas and then to teach that matches up with the real actor not having an accent but I think the "no accent" as child thing will be and is meant to show "standard NE accent = intelligent" "Texas accent = hick".

354 I don't believe anything indicating a change in the glacial/inter-glacial cycle has been produced by "climate scientists". I thought the British version of our corrupted federal office with these responsibilities - the Met Office - had at least some people who had already concluded current data clearly points to a confirmation of that cycle. And that we are now on the down-slope, based on the periodicity of that observed pattern, as consistent with a lot current data.

1) A full complete and open disclosure of the actual raw climate data.

Frasier worked out because it was a completely different show than Cheers, because the show liked its characters, because the people being gently mocked were the stuck up snobs and, most importantly, because Kelsey Grammer has immense comedic talent and is more than happy to be the brunt of his own joke.

Presume rant here about how if the authors of a work hate their characters, I will too. See as prime example Annie Proulx.

412 ShainS, using your comment to go OT a bit, Sessions was mewling pathetically in Portland yesterday, and will be advertizing his weakness in San Diego today (if past patterns hold).

Meanwhile, CA will sue the feds over the border wall. This one should be hilarious, even by recent "judicial" standards. You see, the federal govt., which has exclusive constitutionally mandated responsibility for both common defense and immigration matters, doesn't have the right to secure the national borders.

And states and municipalities will continue to (justifiably) spit at Sessions and his sad little grant-grabbing "enforcement" of the rule of law, as they amp up their lawlessness. And the WH congressional liaison chief - previously with the Koch brothers - will continue to not even consider attempting to accomplish the Trump immigration agenda via, you know, actual law and funding results on the Hill.

440 The CAGW models all descend from models created by James Hansen for NASA research on the atmosphere of Venus back in the 1960s and 1970s. Trouble is that Venus' atmosphere is nearly all CO2, because lighter molecules boiled away eons ago.

Earth's atmospheric CO2 is a trace gas about 400 parts per million. If you turned it all into dry ice it'd cover the oceans with a crust of only a couple of inches. It's a wonder plants can breathe.

So there's no comparing the two.

Hansen is behind "Columbia NASA Goddard" but actually works independently of both in his "laboratory" directly above the Seinfeld Diner on Broadway and 112 Street. If you dug in his finances I'd bet there's Soros money in there.

That's probably right. This Young Sheldon looks like such a cluster. I think part of the fun of Big Bang when they have Sheldon's mother on is when she scolds him for his arrogance and poor behavior and he listens to her. Or just when she gets the upper hand on him. Or really any of the other characters on the show doing it. I can't see them doing that with this new... thing. Its going to be "super smart scientist kid shows those dumb hick religious Texans what for" every week. At least that's how I think it will go since I have zero intention to watch and find out.

Frasier worked out because it was a completely different show than Cheers, because the show liked its characters, because the people being gently mocked were the stuck up snobs and, most importantly, because Kelsey Grammer has immense comedic talent and is more than happy to be the brunt of his own joke.

CO2 traps heat. Al Gore told me so.

Next thing, you'll be telling me that the increase in atmospheric CO2 is a lagged effect of the Earth getting warmer -- and not a cause -- because as the oceans heat up they don't hold gases as well.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 20, 2017 02:40 PM (bFwzG)

I can't remember the name of the episode but Frasier did an old school French bedroom farce when everyone was at a ski lodge and it was all going in and out of rooms and who is where and misunderstandings and everything depended on the actors hitting their marks exactly and the timing of it was just superb. Even with the ability to do multiple takes, it takes talent and dedication by everyone to pull it off and they did.

Annie P. can craft excellent prose. But she hates her characters and the worship of her work grates on my every last nerve.

And then there's Margaret Atwood about whom I cannot speak without ascending into bat vocal range.

Actually the pro-independence people are quite marginal. The real dispute is between the Statehood faction and the "Leave Well Enough Alone" Commonwealth Territory faction.

The Leave Well Enough Alone people say:
--Territory status means lower and sometimes nonexistent federal taxes, that whole "no taxation without representation" thing.
--Everyone would have to learn English
--We are on the federal aid gravy train anyway

The Statehood people say:
--Statehood means more of the federal aid gravy train, or so they claim
--We can have our cake and eat it too with respect to the English language, and they may be right about that
--And "colonialism", waah waah waah, but they won't take that argument to its logical Independence conclusion.

Frankly, I wonder if the Phillippines would have been better off it it remained USA Commonwealth Territory too. Imagine a Governor marcos being busted by the Feds for corruption and doing time in the white collar clink rather than ruling like a dictator for a decade or more.

Recently IIRC a PR governor was busted by the Feds.

I tried to track down that info. I think the 3% part by man may be wrong. There was a post that confused some numbers ... 3.75% was some annual increase number, not a total. But I'm not really sure, it just seemed like only 3% was wrong.

Here is the wattsupwiththat link, where he admits some error, and the first several comments expound on it.
But one chart they use seems to confirm it ... while the guy that posted it first made corrections and crossed out things like "this shows most of the increase from 300 to 400 was not man made". ie ... it does not necessarily show that.

I have to disagree. Yes, the show was not as "funny," with less out-and-out comedy or hijinks. But it made up for it in the casting of Major Winchester (who was more than a match for Hawkeye and B.J. in the wit department) and of Col. Potter, the more mature story lines, and the dynamite word play.

Yeah, preachy now and then -- but the story where we find out that Winchester has given expensive Christmas chocolates to the local Korean orphans, and wants it kept a secret; or the one where Hawkeye is afraid to sleep because he's having nightmares . . . those were worth anybody's time.

So he brought on Major Winchester (David Ogden Stiers) who played a Conservative snob, but one with a brain, one who had valid points at times, and one who gave back just as good as he got.

556 Ice Ages aren't all bad. I saw a fascinating scientific piece detailing how, during the last Ice Age, what is now the Sahara was a land of rivers, lakes, and grasslands that stretched across the continent, full of life. They speculated that Egyptian civilization and culture arose when the refugees from what was becoming the Sahara found the Nile River basin. Lots of evidence to support this, too.

Also, even West Texas probably had 60 - 70 inches of rain a year, and was wet enough and had enough vegetation that herds of mammoths and other megafauna roamed the landscape for tens of thousands of years. Huge lakes covered much of the American southwest - what is now the Great Salt Lake covered half the state of Utah.

I think it'd be an amazing landscape.

560 I read recently that 40 percent of the temperatures recorded on buoys in deep ocean were altered to match the recordings on ships, which, of course, gave higher temps

NOAA has been repeatedly caught doctoring older temperature records lower so modern temperatures seem hotter. The main target is the 1930s during a huge heat wave (also related to solar activity). Climate hysterics regularly doctor temperature stations from rural areas up to match the heat island effect of urban areas as well.

The whole Niles and Daphne running away together at her wedding and then stopping and going back to face the consequences of their actions was a very interesting, and good, choice by the show.

For them to be happy they had to hurt other people and the show did not shy away from that. Sure, it handled it lightly since it was a comedy but there was no oh they are meant to be so everyone supports them! Nope. You want this? Here's the price you will pay.

Yeah that seems low. Catering and housing would cost about that much for a modern movie. Seriously though, it had no big names, was a small cast, filmed on location in Chicago, probably lots of stuff donated to it out of worship of the Obamas, etc. 1.5 is probably not accurate, but it likely didn't cost a lot.

I can't remember the name of the episode but Frasier did an old school French bedroom farce when everyone was at a ski lodge and it was all going in and out of rooms and who is where and misunderstandings and everything depended on the actors hitting their marks exactly and the timing of it was just superb. Even with the ability to do multiple takes, it takes talent and dedication by everyone to pull it off and they did. . . .

"Made a profit"?

Likely not at all. There are terms of art for all this stuff, but the "budget" you reference is the cost of getting the film in the canister.

Then, you start paying for advertising & distribution & so on. The real cost to the film owners & investors is likely way more than the "budget"

710 62 The coming ice age warnings a generation didn't generate nearly the same level of hysteria and religious mania. I wonder why not

The USSR was the main $ponsor of left-wing hysteria back then and they were putting most of their effort behind the anti-nuke stuff.
There were a lot of eco-commie movements, of course, but maybe TOO many. They didn't coalesce around one great theme.

713 srs though, I liked the Rogue One movie more when it was called Halo Fall of Reach.
You're pretty much right. But Rogue One's version of Fall of Reach was a much better adaptation than The Force Awaken's adaptation of A New Hope. Although TFA was marginally better at that than Eragon. Marginally.

714 Strangelove: A computer could be set and programmed to accept factors from youth, health, sexual fertility, intelligence, and a cross section of necessary skills. Of course it would be absolutely vital that our top government and military men be included to foster and impart the required principles of leadership and tradition.

Naturally, they would breed prodigiously, eh? There would be much time, and little to do. But ah with the proper breeding techniques and a ratio of say, ten females to each male, I would guess that they could then work their way back to the present gross national product within say, twenty years.

Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ration of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?

Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

David Hyde Pierce stole that show from the very first scene in the very first episode, and it is to Kelsey Grammer's everlasting credit he let it be and didn't have an imperious "I'm the star" attitude about it.

Undoubtedly true, in most cases. Nevertheless, the personnel in charge of maintaining those sensors should be aware of such changes, and take steps to remedy the situation, by, perhaps, relocating the sensors.

Your hot take for the day is that movie is going to get a cool 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, lose about $100 million at the box office, and we'll have a week of movie critics and video game geeks writing the same articles about "why can't Hollywood get video game movies right?"
Posted by: joe, living dangerously at September 20, 2017 03:26 PM (KUaJL)

But that's a suckers bet.

What I predict is that media outlets will focus on the original games gaint boobs and how she doesn't have them now. Ignoring the rebooted games which just from the visuals this movie is definitely using as it's source material.

IIRC, there were also a lot of Russian weather stations that went offline in the 90's due to budget cuts in the RF. That kind of thing is going to bias your data heavily if you don't correct for it.

-----------

There were a few ensemble shows during that period where the actors, for a long time anyway, didn't seek the limelight. Taxi is one example. Cheers is another. I'm sure there are others, even recent shows. But the ensemble structure starts breaking down when one or more of the actors starts they're the real stars and start demanding more money.
