Seb Gorka: General Kelly Is Limiting Non-Globalist Advocates' Access to Trump, and Trump's Not Happy About Being Fenced In by His Underling

That's Gorka's read, but who knows: As Ed Morrissey notes, Trump does seem to have a lot of respect for the "general" credential, and maybe this is his choice.

17 OAN had a bit last week that said that even Ivanka and Jared no have to schedule with Kelly to confer with Trump. So I don't know if Kelly is limiting based on viewpoint or just imposing military order.

The only think I know about Kelly is that he actually helped deport illegals at DHS and told congress if they didn't like the laws on immigration they needed to get off their asses and change the laws instead of wanting the agency to act counter to existing law. I liked that.

Sorry. That site is for the turds.

All that said, PDT's purging of those who share our views on Islam vis a vis national security is troubling indeed. If for no other reason than he ran on draining the swamp and correcting the mistakes of the past.

This administration is unique in history in having absolutely everything arrayed against it except the voters and do the pressure is immense yo perform. Bannon and Gorka are good people but working with others may not be their highest skill. Having a lot of great egos in on place can be chaotic and counterproductive.

Ivanka and Jared remain I would guess because Trump is comfortable he can rein them in.

My take is that a lot of the anti-establishment side were given the first chance to make things happen on the big items like repealing Obamacare. They failed, at the same time increasing animosity between themselves and the more establishment wing. Hence, why Trump is bringing in new blood, and giving Kelly reign to control the flow of people into the Oval Office. Is Trump selling out to the establishment? No. Is he shifting his approach in getting his agenda through? Yes. As he should do.

111 Unlike most here I have no direct and solid detailed understanding of exactly how things are working in the WH, which puts me at a disadvantage. I also have to miss out on all the soap opera stuff.

But bottom lines are bottom lines.

Policy outcomes are what matter. At this point either getting results out of Congress, and/or launching the effort to remake Congress (incl. the GOP), are needed to advance important policies (most of them anyway).

Posted by: rhomboid at August 29, 2017 05:22 PM (v9gSJ)

112 My take is that a lot of the anti-establishment side were given the first chance to make things happen on the big items like repealing Obamacare.
Posted by: Colorado Alex In Exile at August

Well, that may be partially true except Trump never fielded his full team, he left half of the old team in place to sabotage his guys. He is moving in the wrong direction, instead of telling his guys they had their chance and giving them the boot he should be slicing through the ranks of the holdovers like a hammer.

They'll catch up eventually. When I'm six feet under for two plus decades.

Until then.

210 I have noticed that Trump seems to get the information and viewpoints he wants to make decisions regardless. For instance, I know that Ivanka and crowd as well as Tillerson, were all vehemently opposed to him withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accords yet withdraw he did.

I also noticed that Ivanka gave an interview after that decision disavowing it (something I imagine Trump approved with a pat on her head and with saying something along the lines of "that's fine if it makes your little friends happy sweetie. Now go and play cause daddy has work to do.")

Is this dismissal absurdly lawless - you know, like many high-profile "rulings" have been for years - or is it sneakily within the lines? Or does it have merit?"

Expect Palin to appeal the dismissal of her lawsuit. She'll likely lose with the 2nd Circuit. But SCOTUS is another matter.

Big issue is that Sarah got dismissed before she got discovery. Without discovery she couldn't establish which specific people at the NYT had actual malice. Without that evidence, she got dismissed. It's a Catch 22.

If SCOTUS rules for Sarah it'd be a Big Fucking Deal. If they don't it means that MSM can lie with impunity.

Judge Rakoff elided over the Times never issuing a full and clear retraction, let alone issuing anything close to an apology.

These cases are tricky. You don't want to open the door to lawsuits that inhibit a free press. Allowing expensive discovery too easily can do that.

On the other hand the NY Times republished a blood libel that we all know that they knew was false.

294 Re actions against the Norks, I'm wondering if the WH has been briefed on Chapter 6 enforceable sanctions as an option (the sort under which force against Iraq was blessed by the UN system).

Of course China would veto at the UNSC, but part of the point of sanctions and diplo-horseshit is organizing your coalition and forcing states onto the record. Could be a reasonably diplomatic precursor to unilateral action, too.

Under Chapter 6 authorization, all sorts of fun stuff is put on the table.

309 "My take is that a lot of the anti-establishment side were given the
first chance to make things happen on the big items like repealing

The anti-establishment wing were arguing for far more sweeping first-week executive actions than Trump actually took. To wit: Mass firings. Declaring the Paris and Tehran accords to be unratified treaties and instantly shitcanning them. Immediately rescinding pretty much all of the Obama EOs.

Trump didn't take any of that advice.

Instead, the only thing the anti-establishment people got to do was to watch the utterly foolish attempt to repeal Obamacare through channels, said channel consisting of working via a Congress controlled 98% by the establishment.

That's a good plan, an admirable plan. But if you've ever seen the boomers the ChiComs might toss back at us, it's a plan that needs to take that into account.

They have some serious stuff. If their telemetry and attitude is correct about 50 miles of city and surroundings are affected, if not and it becomes dirty bomb, a thousand miles of uninhabitable wasteland.

Phat Boi will always take it right up to the edge, where he still feels the ChiComs pressed against his back.

A pro-active approach, which puts the ChiComs on *their* heels, is the best method. But that means waging war with the globalists.

Miscellaneous advisors and White House staff aren't really key top slots, and Insiders/Outsiders isn't a useful distinction at this point.

You use people who have the skills you need. If you need an "insider" you use him. If you need an "outsider" you use him. Limiting your options based on other people's secondhand opinions of your employees is always a mistake. Even more so here - that'd basically be inviting his opponents to manage his people by proxy, and they're not going to have his best interests at heart.

Trump likes strong personalities with different opinions because he's not insecure or thin-skinned, and doesn't want to get stuck in a bubble of groupthink. No one is restricting Trump's access to information, or his range of actions, or whispering bad advice directly into his subconscious. Don't worry about it.
