Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Americans and other Westerners who want their families to enjoy the blessings of life in a free society should understand that the life we've led since 1945 in the Western world is very rare in human history. Our children are unlikely to enjoy anything so placid, and may well spend their adult years in an ugly and savage world unless we decide that who and what we are is worth defending.” Mark Steyn

Quote II

Before I ever knew what the word Entrepeneur was, I realized in America and in the Western part of the world in general, you are given the opportunity to be whatever you want to be. And that is all anyone should ever expect from the Capitalist system. The rest is up to you.

It's up to you to educate yourself.

It's up to you to learn speaking skills and people skills.

It's up to you to try (and usually fail, but to try again) all sorts of ventures.

The rest is a combination of hard work, being at the right place ...at the right time...with the right thing...oh yes...and more (never ending) hard work.” Gene Simmons

Quote III

I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics. ... When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could. So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it makes me sick. .... If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal.” Alice Cooper

We keep hearing from the Left that government needs to be transparent. Well, except for when it comes to them.

The City of Los Angeles and Elon Musk are having a bit of a moment.

In June, Musk boasted about "promising conversations" he'd had with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti regarding a tunnel network that would ferry vehicles and pedestrians underneath the city. All of this would ostensibly be built by Musk's newest brainchild, The Boring Company.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Especially ice cream that doesn't melt.

Scientists in Japan have come up with a ‘cool’ solution to stop ice cream from melting before you have had time to finish it. They’ve invented one that doesn’t melt.

Are some on the left beginning to see the light?

But lately, as Democratic leadership has increasingly embraced the far-left impulses of its base, I’ve become convinced that the left needs to think harder about the unintended consequences of such benevolent-seeming proposals.

In isolation, each of these policies has the potential to make workers more costly to hire. Cumulatively, they almost certainly do.

Do you enjoy Swiss chocolate, love Swiss Cheese, crazy about Swiss timepieces? Are you nuts about the longest suspension bridge in the world?

the alpine scenery is nothing less than breathtaking from 278 feet above the Grabengufer, a ravine located at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peak, the Dom.

Majestic landscapes aside, I'd still pass.

To be clear, the two-foot-wide, 1,620-foot-long (about a third of a mile) suspension bridge — dubbed the Charles Kuonen Bridge — isn’t the sort of vertiginous tourist attraction that you drive to, pay a few bucks to crawl/walk/cry your way across and then board a shuttle van that takes you back to your car once you reach the other side. After all, this isn’t China.

No. Way. In. Hell.

Ahhhh yes. The law of unintended consequences. The Left only feels, it doesn't think.

His name is Dorsen and he is one of an army of children, some just four years old, working in the vast polluted mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where toxic red dust burns their eyes, and they run the risk of skin disease and a deadly lung condition. Here, for a wage of just 8p a day, the children are made to check the rocks for the tell-tale chocolate-brown streaks of cobalt – the prized ingredient essential for the batteries that power electric cars.
And it’s feared that thousands more children could be about to be dragged into this hellish daily existence – after the historic pledge made by Britain to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2040 and switch to electric vehicles.

Broken hearts Loneliness is a killer.

Sociologists have long been warning about the dangers of increased isolation thanks to aging populations, scattered families, and cultures that promote the individual over the collective. Now, new research analyzing previous studies suggests people who fall into the loneliness trap are 50% more likely to suffer an early death than those who remain socially connected.

Once again, man is blamed for everything.

This isn't the only place currently on fire—Popular Science has tracked wildfires across the United States, Canada, and much of Europe and beyond. But in what is already a weird fire season, this may be the most bizarre. Greenland does occasionally have wildfires, but the general consensus is that they’re rare. The 20 percent of Greenland that isn’t ice includes shrubs, bushes, mosses and grasses, which are all prime fuel for the fires if the conditions are right. Generally, the conditions have been wrong, leaving conflagrations few and far between. That seems to be changing.
In recent years, Greenland, like much of the Arctic, has experienced higher than normal temperatures. And, for reasons that remain somewhat elusive, surface water seems to be disappearing on Greenland. The country is drying out. This combination means a normal phenomena—a lighting strike for example—has a better chance not only of setting off a spark, but of that spark igniting an inferno.

Sugar and spice - and everything nice - that's what little girls are made of. Maybe little girls, but a certain report says there are a fair share of bad ass girls.

Men Being Raped By Women Is Much More Common Than Most Realize, New Research Shows

In a 2016 report she found — again — the pretty unexpected answer.
While both women and men who were themselves penetrated forcibly were much, much more likely to be abused by other men, among men reporting other forms of sexual abuse, 68.6% of the perpetrators were women.
Men who reported being made to penetrate without consent — which was the “form of nonconsensual sex that men are much more likely to experience in their lifetime” — 79.2% of the perpetrators were female.

Bill O'Reilly went away quietly after the sexual harassment allegations against him. Not so with Eric Bolling.

Suspended Fox Host Eric Bolling Wednesday announced a lawsuit against the reporter who broke the story of allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Bolling filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Yashar Ali, the HuffPost contributing writer who wrote the original article, the Associated Press reports. The suit accuses Ali of "highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff’s conduct and character," leading to damage to Bolling's reputation.

Ali promised to "stand by [his] reporting" and "protect [his] sources" in a tweet responding to the lawsuit Wednesday.

Is America losing on the war on terror? Who is our enemy? The Salafi-Jihadi Movement.

merica is losing the war on terror, yet many Americans think the United States is winning. The fact that there has been no attack on American soil on the scale of 9/11 has created a false sense of security. Dismissals of Orlando and San Bernardino as “lone-wolf” attacks further the inaccurate narrative that al Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham (ISIS) are somehow “on the run.” According to senior American officials for at least seven years, those groups have been “on the run”—a “fact” that in itself demonstrates the falsity of US pretentions to success. Tactical successes on battlefields in Iraq, Syria, and Libya add further to the illusion of success. But if 16 years of war should have taught us anything, it is that we cannot kill our way out of this problem.

Is it better to be hated by liberals than to have their help?

Most liberals are hateful people. As hateful as Nazis. As hateful as KKK members. As hateful as Fred Phelps and his God hates f@gs wackos, who are, come to think of it, Democrats. Liberals are as much defined by whom they hate as what they believe in.

Barb wire. One of the taming agents of the west and provider of telecommunications.

It was in building the network connecting homestead to homestead that the farmers’ ingenuity came to the fore. Instead of erecting new poles and wires, many either ran phone wires along the top of wooden fence posts or used the barbed wire itself to carry signals. The latter hardly worked as well as insulated copper wire, but with the lines already in place, installation and operating costs could be kept to a minimum. By one estimate, service ran a mere $3 to $18 a year, far less than the regional phone companies charged, and labor for maintaining the network was supplied by volunteers.

Imagine the Shrieking by certain groups today.

31 NCKate, I already did. Honestly, it's so low that I doubt they'll come up anywhere close to where I'd accept. I'm waiting for the formal offer, and then we'll see.

I still have two irons in the fire. One is a job in Charlottesville, working intel analysis. The other is a position in Portland. Unfortunately, I needed to sign up for classes at the local community college so I can get GI Bill support as a backup plan, and if I don't get a good offer in the next two weeks I'll be locked in with that.

But if 16 years of war should have taught us anything, it is that we cannot kill our way out of this problem.

Except that we haven't really TRIED to kill our way out of the problem. Shit like San Bernardino and Orlando happen because we DON'T kill our enemies. They think we're weak. And if we've learned anything about mohammedans over the last few decades is that they much prefer attacking weak, unarmed civilians who can't effectively resist.

Kill enough of them and they lose the will to fight. It's the story of every war in history.

72 oddment: i was going to post that quote from alice cooper, that political partisanship betrays rock and roll. it's from 2004, i think, and he goes on to say "who are these people? glen fry?! that's enough to make me vote for bush!" (or something.)

but i noted at another post earlier, inappropriately, but here appropriately enough, that there's a very fine interview with alice cooper that's been put up on youtube where he describes his long and close friendship with glen campbell. they were golf buddies, families were close, songwriters, drug survivors, christians, and much more. "alice cooper on glen campbell" available on youtube. worth a look.

73 Sociologists have long been warning about the dangers of increased isolation thanks to aging populations, scattered families, and cultures that promote the individual over the collective. Now, new research analyzing previous studies suggests people who fall into the loneliness trap are 50% more likely to suffer an early death than those who remain socially connected.

As they used to say on Monty Python, "Oh, what a giveaway!"

Do you live alone? The collectivists developed a solution for that a long time ago.

120 Once upon a time the collective wisdom was that America could not defeat the Soviet Union without destroying itself. A humble man from Illinois, educated at Eureka college, dared to believe otherwise. He was not alone. There were others who dared believe otherwise, too. Together, under the leadership of this humble American, Ronald Reagan, they brought they Soviet Union to an end.

Just then his tween daughter pops in wearing a "suck this" T shirt or something equally obnoxious. Last I heard the grandkids had moved in with them, as the various daughters have had drug abuse issues, etc, as did they. It doesn't "prove" anything but it's amazing hiw deep the conditioning is. 197 Yeah, I like being around people (usually), but I have no problem being alone. I think the fact I'm a reader has a lot to do with that.

I remember a college professor I had said extroverts are energized by being around others and find their energy is sapped when they are alone too much and introverts find their energy sapped by too much socializing. It doesn't mean extroverts are incapable of solitude and introverts are totally antisocial (of course, there are people at both extremes), just that the situations they are most comfortable in and do their best work differ. that made sense to me.

The theory is that the disease drove Eddy insane and he committed the Ripper murders in a frenzy of syphilitic madness, and the royal family had to shut him up in a lunatic asylum. I'd like to solicit a book in the same genre, but focused solely on the sabotage of known liberals in most all of the career fields they're known to frequent. As well as devastating their homes, family lives, and all around psyche and well-being.

For the modern world, IT folks have it the easiest, being able to write bad code, set up and install fvcked up networks, configure and format hard drives to over-duplicate, self-overwrite, self-reformat, etc. Or, just generally slow down 'net speeds, foul up work orders, etc.

Food servers, with lots of "enemy" customers, can really screw up the works. Introduce some salmonella to that chicken order, at no extra charge!

I'm often amazed that bad guys were ever caught at all. Still...they were. I suspect that after the railroad and telegraph spread, it became easier to find people.

Another factor might be that strangers were more apparent at that time then they are now.

As an aside, a few decades ago I was out of town on business (at a smallish town) and had an hour of free time, so stopped in at a local barber shop for a trim.

After I had been in the chair for a bit, the door opens up, and in walks the sheriff. He sat down, and started up some small talk with the barber, and me...

I didn't think anything about it, until he asked where I was from. I realized that he had seen the plate on my car, and was kinda interested in why I was there.

All very pleasant, of course, and I didn't resent it at all. But, there it was. He wasn't there for a haircut.

Repeat until you become some stronger person's (A), and hope for the best.

370 Simple Sabotage - you know liberals read this blog also, and sometimes make comments.

They don't really need this field manual since they do so much of it instinctively, and they are better organized, and have trainers who train the People's Resistance Army. They also have lawyers to keep their saboteurs out of jail.

There was a comment made in the earlier threads about how we have a better army than the left, but when the left comes for us, they won't do it en mass.
Instead they will come for us one at a time, the way SWAT and the Secret Police do it at 6am. One or two of us at a time. Or a mysterious plane crash, a weird car accident, a sudden heart attack, a weird murder in the city.

The left targets the 'node' the organizer who gets results, the movers and shakers, especially the ones who avoid the spotlight.

Then rumors circulate, not to inform, but to frighten the others who might think of themselves as the next victim.

Late response from the Ghostbusters thread but, yes, people are absolutely still defending Ghostbusters 2016. A random assortment of comments from a recent thread (elsewhere) posted in between the announcement of the upcoming Plinkett review and its release:

"I watched the new Ghostbusters movie again over the weekend and ended up liking it a lot more than I did on the first viewing."
"yeah it just gets better and better. damn i love that film"
"Ghostbusters 2016 is good"
"I really enjoyed the New Ghostbusters movie. The interactions between Kristen Wiig and Chris Hemsworth were the best part of the movie."
"Ghostbusters 2016 is a movie I can't talk about if I'm not 100% sure of the company I'm in, because talking about how you didn't like that movie can get people agreeing with you that you don't necessarily want to associate with under any circumstances"
Not entirely sure if they really truly like it, or if they HAVE to like it because not liking it means agreeing with those icky evil misogynist MRAs on something and ideological purity forbids that.

Depending on the age of the car, the cat may have an electric preheater that warms it at startup. The cat wants to be hot for optimum efficiency, especially since the engineers at the automakers are trying to use the absolute minimum of precious metals in the catalyst lattice.

The preheaters break, and that then throws a code. The car will still run fine. It will emit some trifling amount of additional smog while it's cold. Not enough for any rational person to be concerned about.

But in some jurisdictions, it's fix it or else.

The idea that James Maybridge was also a serial killer is pretty odd, especially with the chain of custody of the proof being so muddled.

I wonder if the diary also says things like, "can't feel my legs so well, and I have this jabbing pain in my gut. Wife sent me meat broth and arrowroot for dinner. Her cooking is terrible. Makes me puke"

You are being obnoxious... but you are probably correct, so I really can't get mad.

Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at August 10, 2017 12:53 AM (/qEW2)

531 when I first moved to NY after college I was sharing an apartment with a couple of coworkers while my apartment was getting finished. We were over on Second Avenue right on the border of the safe / dangerous neighborhoods. When I would come home at night there was an absolutely unbelievably hot hooker standing on the corner by our building. 19-20, African American girl, gold lame, everything. One night as I was stumbling in, exhausted from work not booze, I gazed at her a little too long and she said "you want to come with me?" I stammered "no" and went in. Her pimp was in an archetypal late 80s gold Cadillac DeVille parked across the street with this great big fat white girl. They would be in there all night fogging up the windows while the hot girl was standing on the corner.

So, anyway, the point of this is, one morning when I was getting dressed I looked out my bedroom window in the same apartment and saw a guy carrying two bookshelves. He had his arms bent upward at the elbow with his hands up by his shoulders carrying one bookshelf, or case, on each side. He got across from our building and stopped to talk to some boring old hooker who worked that corner. He talked to her for 5 minutes handed her some money then she picked up one of the book shelves and walked off with him.

534 I remember years ago kind of glancing through the "Anarchist's Cookbook". Told how to make napalm from gasoline and laundry detergent, how to make a Molotov cocktail, and how to make a time delay fuse from a firecracker and a cigarette.
Problem with the cigarette thingy now is that CA passed a law that all cigarettes had to be treated with a chemical that causes them to go out of you don't puff on it often enough so that people who fell asleep with one lit wouldn't burn down the house. Rather than just make a batch for CA, the manufacturers just made it that way across the country. If I let mine sit in an ashtray for more than a couple of minutes, I have to relight it.
I'm a gonna have to figure out another way.

Nah, the smell would give it away.
Trip tip, maybe drive the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Pretty country. It's a little north of Durango. There is also the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Again a little out of your direct path, but interesting nonetheless. South of Durango, there is Mesa Verde National Park, and southwest is the Four Corners area. They have a marker you can stand on and be in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona all at the same time. Not a real lot to see there, but the surrounding desert area is pretty awesome.

A few examples.

The first is in regards to the 2nd Amendment. Back in the '70's when people who actually cared about 2nd Amendment rights took over the NRA, public opinion and more importantly political opinion was against them. If they had pushed for a SCOTUS case to declare formally whether the 2nd Amendment was an individual right... they would have lost and destroyed almost any chance to have SCOTUS. Instead they laid the groundwork such that when they did end up making that push -- i.e. bring out the fightin' knife -- they already knew they would win.

As to the dirk to the kidney, the example of how Michigan became a right to work state is illustrative. The unions made a big push and failed hard. Quick action (in a lame-duck session soon after the election, IIRC) exploited this weakness and dirked the f**k out of the UAW's already bleeding kidney.

There is plenty of good that the Trump administration is doing, and yes this includes legislation and regulation repeal coming from Congress. But this isn't due to any Crocodile Dundee "that's not a knife" moments.

The real fights are the ones you don't see.

609 His headline set me up for disappointment because it's what I have been saying for a long time.

Depending on the group you belong to liberals:
a) hate you. They would deeply enjoy getting you fired.
or
b) champion you. This is a slower poison, but a poison still.
or
c) ignore you. Clearly the best option, but most unlikely, with their restless busy fckng fingers

And when you see the results of cities like Chicago, or states like California, then you know what I mean by slow poison. It's better to be ignored than to be championed.

610 Not a huge fan of heights, but that Swiss bridge looks like nothing next to a hike I did once in Bali. Top rim of a collapsed volcano, had a guide. Once we got to the "good" part, the path was about 2 fee across, maybe a bit more, in most places. One side - sharp steep but not vertical slope (outside of caldera); other side - sheer straight wall, down a tremendous distance, I'm thinking 800+ feet or more, in places.

Local guys, huge bundles of sticks on their shoulders (firewood), galloping past us (both directions) at times - like they were just walking around you in a parking lot. Guide, of course, was completely unfazed, proceeded like it was just a conventional mountain trail.

Enjoyed the hike, spectacular views (think you could see Lombok, the next island, easily from the rim) - but very relieved when we finally left the rim.

625 At Least Eight Reasons Why The Talk Of North Korea Leveling Seoul Is Simply Wrong

626 "Once you compound this with the fear and uncertainty of air strikes and hostile artillery firing back, accuracy is going to suffer. Without the ability to spot fall of shot accuracy after the first volley is going to get progressively worse. How, for instance, will a gun know the area it has shelled has been destroyed? Without eyes on the target the result is either overkill, and a waste of ammunition, or ineffective damage."

629 There will be no live vehicles moving on the roads in North Korea after the first few hours. The artillery that is positioned to target Seoul are in positions known as Hardened Artillery Site (HARTS). For HARTS to be effective, the artillery piece has to retreat after each firing to reload and then be run out again. As an aside, these positions are much more night lights and comfort blankets for the gun crews than they are militarily significant. During the first Gulf War we saw video of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) going down the ventilator shafts of bunkers. The B-2 can carry 80 500-lb JDAM and each is independently targeted.

Posted by: SMFH at August 10, 2017 02:11 AM (sB1y1)

630 Fallacy #6. Neither the US nor ROK Air Force or artillery will engage North Korean artillery.

This is the fallacy that undercuts the scenario completely. While only a small number of North Korean guns and rocket launchers can reach Seoul, every gun and rocket system owned by the US and ROK can reach the North Korean artillery. Why is this? Because all North Korean guns aimed a Seoul have to be very close to the DMZ. South Korean and American guns and rocket launchers will also be close to the DMZ bringing 100% of North Korean artillery within range. These systems are aimed with drones and radar and are much more accurate than the North Korean systems and there are 155mm artillery rounds with terminal guidance.

Posted by: SMFH at August 10, 2017 02:14 AM (sB1y1)

631 haven't read the article, but think FPF or H and I fires.

you know where you are.
you know where your targets are. (minimum range: everything after that is open season)
as with any area fire, you just shoot along pre-approved fire plans, where everything between the Southern edge of the DMZ and your max effective range and our L-R arc of fire is a valid target.

especially if you specify that minimum range is "X", where "X" is inside Seoul population border/ minimum density.

you don't need spotting/correction, just walk them up and down and back and forth.

you just need maximum rate of fire until you run out of shells or are killed.

Posted by: redc1c4 at August 10, 2017 02:16 AM (Nv5N5)

632 None of this is to say a war with North Korea would be easy and that it wouldn't result in widespread destruction in the northern 10% of South Korea, but don't be fooled. The stories of an Armageddon in South Korea are simply not true. The ROK Air Force and ROK Army are not going to sit on their thumbs and allow Seoul to be pulverized. Neither will American forces. Just like we spent a lot of effort hunting SCUDs in both Gulf wars, the artillery that can shoot at Seoul will be quickly and ruthlessly hunted down and silenced.

637 "Without the ability to spot fall of shot accuracy after the first volley is going to get progressively worse."

During the Chechen separatist fighting two decades ago, the Russian Army sequentially sent several motor rifle regiments into Grozny, hoping to intimidate the locals into calming down, and they all got horribly shredded.

Doctrine and systems were not well adapted to MOUT, and Chechens are tough bastards. Some of them having been previously blooded in Afghanistan.

Ivan finally just gave up on entering, pulled up the self-prop heavy artillery a few klicks outside the city limits, and started in with the fire missions. They had no forward observers to speak of. They just assumed for purpose of planning that everyone still alive inside the city was an enemy and they were going to treat that city as though it were Berlin in 1945.

And despite the lack of accuracy, there wasn't much left of Grozny when the Russians finally decided they were done.

The Chechens weren't doing any (or much) counterbattery fire. But still, it shows that when the target is the size of a big metro area and there's no delicacy about civilian casualties and no real specificity in what's meant to be destroyed, that can be done.

Yeah, I can see the appreciation. There IS a kind of croosover. Band or solo? Eh... both, really. The old lineups may have had some metal chops (hence the overlap), but the band and AC solo were doing classic Cooper SONGS. Cooper was doing rock and pop, back then and it shows in his songs... doesn't matter how hard edged some were, they were still basically pop. "I'm 18" is a pop song. Yeah, it is. An incredibly hard rocking, crunchy one, but still pop!

And when you do MYO you get better tasting tobacco and it all ends up costing less than $1.50/pack. Of course, there is the time involved in making the cigarettes (but you can get a fully automatic injecter for $500, which, these days, is the equivalent of only 8 or 10 cartons of commercial cigarettes - or even less for the worse areas of the country).

I've been doing MYO for years. I love it. My favorites (Smokin' G tobacco, Premier tubes) cost me less than $1/pack - the tubes cost almost as much as the tobacco!

This faux-media bullshit to divert the short attentions of a very large
segment of the American populace from the criminal hijinks of our
so-called "leaders" would be hilarious except for the fact that these
fucks are willing to go full WWIII to get Trump out of office.

Posted by: SMFH at August 10, 2017 02:24 AM (sB1y1)

The fact that they're willing to cause a nuclear war to get rid of him just proves how desperate they are.

They had a master plan with layers upon layers of options that would
all lead to victory. They thought they had a "we win no matter what
happens" roadmap to an inevitable destiny, with every contingency
controlled for, and in their hubris, they started rushing things and got
lazy.

Then Trump happened, and that master plan falling apart.

It infuriates them. They feel like they deserve to win, and that
their victory is being stolen. They've lost control of their great
social experiment in the 11th hour, and they'd rather burn it all down
than lose to us, who they consider to be a bunch of unwashed rabble.

"Gender" is separate and distinct from biological sex while being hardwired in ones brain and unchangeable?

2 + 2 = 3

"Gender" is separate and distinct from biological sex and is just a social construct?

2 + 2 = 5

"Gender" is both at the same time?

2 + 2 = 3 = 2 + 2 = 5

Biological sex is just a spectrum or a social construct...

Unforced errors like this are starting to happen, because panic has set in. They're a person who doesn't know how to swim in rising water, flailing uselessly, with their actions only making the situation worse.

Our own party is doing everything it can to try to be the Washington Generals and throw the game, and we're still winning.

I can barely believe it myself, but to them, it's apocalyptic.

I am firmly convinced that the genius of early Metallica was due to Mustaine's riffs + Cliff Burton's musical genius.

Their first three albums were genius, with Mustaine's waning influence intertwining with Burton's musical understanding and mastery.

Cliff Burton is why I took up the Bass Guitar.

"...and Justice for All" was a great album for a post-Burton Metallica (though the intentional muting of Newsted's bass was uncalled for). If they had continues on that vein, it would have been for the best.

Instead, they sold out and put out the Black Album. Don't get me wrong, I was in line to buy it at the record store when it came out, and many people reflexively waxed poetic about how it was so wonderful, but this big coming out on the wider music scene led to far worse things, and I've not bothered with them since.

The first half of the movie keeps ratcheting up the suspense to unbearable levels.

Then the attack happens, and the second half descends into a charnel house of horror. It ends about ten years later, and civilization is simply *gone*.

The whole movie used to be on YouTube, but I couldn't find it when I looked the other night. There are just a few scenes here and there.

698 Night all.

Last year I made a tabletop RPG based on the music of Botswana Heavy Metal Band "Skinflint".

I contacted them and they gave me their blessing to run RPGs based on their music, and even proffered multiple sources on Bantu mythology that they used for the writing of their own albums.

I noted in the mythology that rainbows were considered harbingers of evil and even included "rainbow snakes" as minor enemies in my tabletop RPG.

Their new album even has an entire track about these "Rainbow Snakes".

Don't get me wrong, I love Western based fantasy ("Goblin Slayer" novels by Kumo Kagyu being particularly good recent material), but I am so interested in something different. So, I enjoy exploring such things.

Anyway, here is "Ram of Fire" by Skinflint:

705 Those anti nuke war movies overstated the effects of the bombs. There was an interactive mapping/charting online tool that showed just how far away you needed to survive. Being in a basement, not necessarily a bomb shelter, just a basement was enough protection if you were ten miles or more away.

Fallout depends on wind direction, and radiation levels drop rapidly the first week or two. The breakdown of civil society afterward is the bigger problem for the survivors. Assuming that all of the world's nuclear weapons are detonated the first day. One or two here, one or two there, over several months, is a different story entirely.

Searching for that calculator brought up all kinds of web sites I wouldn't trust.

http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

You're right that a few nukes going off here and there wouldn't be the end of civilization, but back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, if the US and USSR had gone at it, literally thousands of nukes would have been fired.

Anyone astute enough to read a graph can look at the Labor Participation Graph and see that since the year 2000 the rate has been in continual free-fall. That was the year China was awarded 'permanent' most favored trade status. Between 60,000 to 70,000 American factories disappeared in the next decade. Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter (I know - a moment of lucidity) famously predicted that trade with China would get out of hand and we would lose leverage over them.

We have lost leverage over them. Our calls to them to rein in Phat Boi have been largely ineffective.

I support a return to year-to-year review of China's trade status with the United States. Every US citizen and our Senators - who could write the legislation and deliver it to President Trumps desk - should support this effort.
