GOP Donors Withholding Donations in Wake of Obamacare Repeal Fiasco

Coffee is for closers.

Republican donors are protesting GOP lawmakers' failure to repeal Obamacare by withholding donations to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

At least $2 million in contributions originally promised to the NRSC have not materialized, CNN reported Tuesday...

Texas-based donor Doug Deason informed congressional Republicans in June that the "Dallas piggy bank" is closed until they take major action on health care and taxes, the Associated Press reported.

It's well past time for clarifying who are the sovereign and who are merely the servants. The political class has been confused on this point for quite some time.

43 Give them nothing.

Do not donate to their campaigns. Do not volunteer for them during election season. Do not take their bumper stickers, yard signs, or other paraphernalia. And as a matter of principle, vote for their primary challenger, whoever it may be.

I guess if your particular senator voted for any and all forms of repeal, under Trump as well as Obama, then maybe this doesn't apply so much. But as for Murkowski, Collins, McCain et al., the only thing one should be giving them is hate mail and/or rotten fruit.

82 They need to just propose tax rate cuts for everyone making $125K/$250K or less, all the way down the board, back to at least GWB levels, and make the Dems vote on it. No special categories or incentives, just rate cuts. It should be totally non-controversial, and gives Dems no way to oppose it without looking like they want the middle class to pay high taxes. They woould hem and haw about "oh well health care and college is really what is costing the middle class" but at the end of the day make 'em put up or shut up, strip the rich out of this so it's no excuse for once. If Trump really cares about his middle class voters he would be doing this now while he still can.

90 I'm on the fence about this. Even if McConnell trots out a full repeal bill and forces threats of murder on other Senators. It's not going through because of those lecherous grifters like McCain, Collins, and Murkowski. They will hold it up out of some bullshit altruistic stance of "it will hurt people" or some other concocted nonsense.

McCain and Murkowski are safe too unless someone actually starts a recall effort against them and I don't see that happening. The only good that will come out of forcing a vote on the full repeal would be potentially getting to see all the GOPe Senators who need to be primaried come to light. Fiiiiiiiiiine.

*clambers on soapbox*

I would like all of those who have spent the last several, well, decades really get off my lawn, saying that we must have a majority in the House and we must have a majority in the House and Senate and we must have majorities in the House and Senate and we must have the Presidency all at the same time to tell me exactly what numbers are needed in the House and the Senate in order for Republican, not even conservative, just Republican priorities on legislation to pass.

I don't want rhetoric. I don't want but but the rules of the House and the filibuster in the Senate and and and and the agencies and and and and the Courts! Nope. None of that. I want the actual number of seats in the House and the Senate that must be held by Republicans in order for anything to be accomplished.

Oh and no, well, see, we mean real Republicans, not McCain and Collins. Sorry, you gotta dance with the one that brung ya. They were elected as Republicans and thus will count as such.

So tell me, tell me true. What are the numbers needed in order to advance a Republican agenda? I'll spot you must have the Presidency.

Everyone of these corrupt a-holes just needs money or some other emollient to flow in their direction. It's done all of the time.

How do you think Obamacare got passed? It was political bribe after bribe until everyone was on board.

The mere fact that we aren't seeing these kinds of plays "The Lisa Murkowski International Latrine and Candy Store" for example-

mean that McConnell et.al. are not the least bit serious.

Well, it's the only realistic place to hit them. In the primaries, or the nads, and primaries is easier to do.

As far as donations go, I think this is a useless metric anymore. Trump defeated the beast with less than half of her spending. He buried Jeb, with a $100 to $150 million primary warchest.

The more the electorate is 'woke', the less spending on ads matters. The Dems flooded the field for Ossoff, and got diddly for it. They have loads of megadonors of soft money, and they still are losing ground.

2018 is a historic chance to get a more conservative Senate, with the Dems having to defend 23 of 33 (or 34, I forget) seats up for grabs. So make sure that every semi-conservative gets a solid conservative challenger.

There is no choice now. Sink their subs and take out as much of
their artillery/assets on the DMZ in the first strike. Then flatten
their nuke sites.

We cannot allow them to have warheads and missiles to deliver them,
no matter how crude they may be. They will only get better with time as
well as wind up in the hands of the Iranians.

So, a manifestly insane man and avowed enemy of the US and its allies is allowed to get nukes and the capability to deliver them via ICBMs.

That is unacceptable to me. So the choice is thousands (not millions) of South Korean casualties and destruction now, or a nuke is going to land on the US, Japan, RoK or perhaps Israel via Iran if we do nothing.

-----------------

It would pretty much raze South Korea's economy. East Germany had a semi-functional economy, and West Germany still took a massive hit when the two countries reunited. North Korea's economy is pretty much non-existent. South Korea's economy has been doing really well over the last few decades, but all of that would be wiped out if reunification happens.

What South Korea would prefer is to first help North Korea get a functional economy up and running, and maybe *then* think about reunification. But fat boy isn't interested in that.

Add to that something that someone mentioned to me several years ago. Chinese history apparently has a very definite cyclical nature. A new regime (dynasty) takes control of the country, runs things for a while, and then gets booted out (read - killed) by a new regime. The whole process runs practically like clockwork, and you can apparently point to the four-decade-or-so span of years when the old government will be replaced by the new one.

Apparently the ChiComs are very much aware of this cycle. And they're not that far off from entering the "replace the old with the new" phase. They're very worried about it, and trying to come up with a way to keep it from happening to *them*.

The Chinese don't really have that far to fall. I've mentioned this before but last time I was in Hong Kong the big issue was limiting the number of mainland Chinese that would be allowed to enter Hong Kong on a daily basis.

The reason for this is teems of them were pouring into Hong Kong daily, mostly on the train, to buy basic items like baby diapers that were not readily available in China. People in Hong Kong were tired of them cleaning off the shelves.

Again, China's status as an economic powerhouse includes a lot of wishful thinking. The life of an average Chinese citizen would seem like poverty to an American.
